The first Bank Holiday of May beckons, and despite the frostiest April on record for some time, I am pleased to say that we have had some days that suggest that summer will be upon us before we know it! It is a glorious time of the year as days lengthen and new life springs into action, but it is also a time when students find they must work hard to keep focused upon their work – this year in particular with Assessments in the weeks ahead. My office is located in the LRC, and I can honestly say that I have never seen so many students working so diligently in that space. There is a real sense of students taking control of their lives and I am reminded of our college’s guiding mission; to help students to be the best that they can be.

I see it daily and it makes me proud to work with these students who have managed to pull through a difficult year and now have their whole careers before them. I hope that the contents of this edition of the Careers eMag might inspire them to make the most of their hard-earned education and take the next steps on their career path.

Tips for making your firm choice You have made your University Applications and started to receive offers, so what next? Here is some advice from The UNI Guide Review your offers Fools rush in! Take some time revisiting your course and university options, especially if it's been a while since you sent off your UCAS application. Re-familiarise yourself with the course description and modules on offer – the course content needs to match up with what you're looking for in a course. Will you be happy studying this course for the next three years?

Have you been able to visit the university or the city? With the ongoing disruption caused by the coronavirus pandemic, it has been difficult to visit universities in person. However, you'll find plenty of detail on university websites and their virtual open days are well worth viewing. If you do get the chance to visit in person - take it. A prospectus can only tell you so much. Visit The UNI guide 'choosing the right city' for some top tips.

Once you have accepted an offer, you are waiting for the unis to update your application based on your final results. While you’re waiting it's a good idea to find out more about your chosen uni by attending open days, following them on social media, and getting the view from current students by checking out virtual talks or look at the UCAS Blogs HERE

UNIVERSITY OF CAMBRIDGE CHURCHILL COLLEGE VIRTUAL CONVERSATION WITH PROFESSOR LUCIE GREEN THURSDAY, 13TH MAY AT 5PM Professor Green is a Professor of Physics and a Royal Society University Research Fellow based at the Mullard Space Science Laboratory, UCL’s Department of Space and Climate Physics, and studies activity in the atmosphere of our nearest star, the Sun. The conversation will be hosted by the Master of Churchill College Professor Dame Athene Donald - and will discuss what academics do, what motivates them to get out of bed each morning and aims to explore the individual paths of eminent academics who have made it to the top in their own particular ways. How have they found their own solutions to 'life, what tips they wish they'd been given earlier on, and what might they view, retrospectively, with most pleasure or regret. Interview Questions you should be ready to answer.

If you're getting ready for a job interview, be prepared to get some COVID-related questions. Recruiters are focusing, now more than ever, on how job candidates handled work (or being out of work) during the pandemic, reports Fast Company. They're also asking about workers' experiences in remotework settings. Given this unprecedented past year, interviewees should be prepared to handle more unique questions than they have in the past.
