OAG ANNUAL CONFERENCE

WELCOME Message from the OAG President Dear Colleague, I hope you are looking forward to our 15th Annual Conference in Toronto on October 21 – 23, 2011. You will have an opportunity to touch base with old friends and colleagues and meet new ones. This year, we will be discussing, as our theme, Us & Them: How Gastroenterologists Interact with Other Organizations. You will have an opportunity to see how we interact with our provincial and federal regulators and other organizations. We will have a controversial debate between the CAG and the OAG – will it be chaos or will we walk away as friends? We hope you will participate actively in the discussions, and have a much better understanding of how our regulators operate and interact with gastroenterologists. We will be presenting highlights of the popular and well-received St. Michael’s Endoscopy Course. Our companions will be cooking with the renowned Bonnie Stern and will have at their disposal the serene Still Waters Spa where they can calm their senses and rejuvenate as they gear up for an evening of glitz and glamour. This year, for our Gala, we will take you back to the era when searchlights swept the night sky as the rich and famous arrived in their limousines. This is the perfect opportunity to let your “inner star” out, sip cocktails, honour and toast the Oscar winner of our specialty, Dr. R. Allan Hart at the Liberty Grand. It will be a perfect combination of elegance, sophistication and charm. I would like to extend a special thank you to our preeminent and platinum partners and conference sponsors for providing the financial support to help us host educational initiatives for our members. This year’s Conference offers insight, education and entertainment of the highest caliber. I hope you will be able to attend.

Regards,

David Baron, MD, FRCP(C) President

WELCOME Message from the Conference Chair I look forward to welcoming you to the Ontario Association of Gastroenterology's 15th Annual Conference and hope you will enjoy your experience in Toronto. Realizing that we deal with different agencies on a daily basis, your conference organizing committee thought it would be a good idea to have each of these partners visit us this year. They will review what they do on our behalf, and make suggestions as to how we can optimally interact with them. The debate this year will feature two of our well-renowned colleagues going head-to-head to discuss the relative merits of the OAG versus the CAG. Sunday will feature our almost-annual review of the St. Michael's Endoscopy Course, and our official Annual General Meeting. On the social front we will have the President’s Welcome Dinner on Friday night, and the Gala this year will be an Ode to Glamour, to be held at the glorious Liberty Grand. Spouses will be treated to a cooking workshop with one of Canada's most celebrated food personalities, Bonnie Stern. I would like to thank the organizing committee and moderators for their assistance in putting this meeting together. Of course, none of this would be possible without the incredible efforts put in by Melonie Hart and the team at Taylor Enterprises. Her experience, insight, and aesthetic touch make my job infinitely easier. Are you still reading this? For the life of me I don’t know why. I have always wanted to know who reads this far into these things. Let me know and I will get you a drink at the Gala. OK, the drinks are complimentary, but still, I’d like to know that including this actually serves a purpose. We look forward to seeing you in October. Iain Murray, MD, FRCP(C) 2011 Conference Chair

Residents’ Round Table Luncheon Saturday, October 22, 2011 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm (Pre-registration is required for this event.) Although this meeting is about meeting familiar colleagues, we look forward to meeting the bright future of our profession at this meeting each year. This session is for you and your spouses to ask questions you would not normally discuss in the halls of academia. More experienced members of the gastroenterology community will be present to answer your questions about life as a gastroenterologist. Finding a job, setting up a practice, dealing with payroll and personnel, home-work balance, and so on, are not skills normally taught, but are important in day-to-day community practice. This is your chance to go over practice items not found in Journals in an informal environment.
