Tooth Auto-transplantation for the Challenging Orthodontic Patient 2:00 pm – 3:15 pm | 3:45 pm – 5:00 pm YOU’LL LEARN: The Benefits of tooth auto-transplantation in your complex cases.

Orthodontists are often faced with treatment planning dilemmas for patients presenting with complex impacted, congenitally missing, and traumatized teeth. Traditional treatment options are usually limited for these patients with attempts at extraction of teeth, space closure or space appropriation for a future dental implant. The value of a natural tooth to maintain and develop the supporting bone and gingival tissues is well accepted. From this perspective, the presentation will discuss various protocols for these clinical situations with a focus on tooth autotransplantation aimed at natural tooth replacement and alveolar ridge management.

DR. JIM JANAKIEVSKI, D.D.S., M.S.D. Jim Janakievski was born and raised in Toronto. He received his D.D.S. from the University of Toronto, which was followed by a general practice residency in upstate New York. He then returned to Toronto and spent five years in general practice. His specialty post-graduate training was completed at the University of Washington, where he received a Certificate in Periodontology with a M.S.D. degree and a Fellowship in Prosthodontics. After graduating, Jim was a full-time assistant professor at the University of Washington Graduate Periodontics department. As a student and faculty member, he was mentored by Dr. Vince Kokich Sr., orthodontist, who later introduced Jim to his future practice partner Dr. David Mathews with whom he maintained a private practice in Tacoma, Washington. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology, and a Fellow of the American Academy of Esthetic Dentistry. He is a reviewer for several dental journals and has published in the area of interdisciplinary dentistry, dental implants and tooth auto-transplantation. He enjoys teaching and sharing his experiences at North American and international conferences. In addition, Jim also teaches at Spear Education in Scottsdale, AZ, and participates in practice-based clinical research through the McGuire Institute of Houston, TX.

Improving Oral Hygiene for our Patients: The Impact of Poor Oral Hygiene on the General Practice and Tools that Empower Our Patients to Change! 2:00 pm – 3:15 pm Hygiene appointments can be stressful and leave a negative impact for the patient with persistent poor oral hygiene. It’s a well-known fact amongst the dental team that repeatedly telling these patients what to do to see improvements seldom works. What if we take it up a notch? Research has helped us to understand what is required to better engage and communicate with these patients. Coupled with a home care plan, these tools can provide patients an opportunity to break this cycle for good!

Join me for a motivating session! Plus, all in attendance will receive a Powerbrush!

And what about our ‘star hygiene patients’ that end up with recession/pitting and damage from acid erosion? The program can help with these patients too! With a standardized check-up, consistent reporting, home therapy kit and countless other advantages, these tools can help ease many of the oral hygiene challenges we’re faced with every day to help give our patients the highest level of care.

Taste of East Kelowna Kelowna’s rich fruit and wine region is home to some of the best wineries and cideries, so on this tour you will get a chance to sample three of their award winners. Only 20 minutes to the east of downtown Kelowna, tour participants will get to see and taste the best! With 110 acres of vineyards in three distinctive sites, Cedar Creek Estate Winery was one of the first eight wineries in the Okanagan. By 2021, Cedar Creek will be a 100% certified organic winery. Here you will have a tour, along with a two course, wine paired lunch. You will also visit Soma Craft Cidery, a working alpaca farm, orchard and cidery with a restaurant to enjoy the tranquility of East Kelowna. Kettle Valley Cycling Tour The Kettle Valley Railroad, opened in 1915, was a subsidiary of the Canadian Pacific Railway that operated in the Thompson-Okanagan region BC. The railway was abandoned in portions beginning in 1961, with the final segment falling into disuse in 1989. Much of the railroad’s original route has been converted to a multi-use recreational trail, known as the Kettle Valley Rail Trail, which carries the Trans-Canada Trail through this part of BC. Today guests will be met in the hotel lobby to depart by shuttle for the Myra Canyon Trailhead where you will be provided with a bike that has been fitted based on your height, in advance. Water and snacks are provided for the ride. On the trail, after a short safety lesson and historical interpretation of the area, the guide will lead the group on a 20 km flat cycle, viewing all 18 trestles and two tunnels. The vistas from 4,000 feet, overlooking the Okanagan Valley are second-to-none. A beautiful place to stop for lunch and enjoy some local cider after your morning on the trestles.
