CNS Annual Awards The Earle Willard McHenry Award Given in recognition of Distinguished Service in Nutrition.
Award Recipient: Dr. Terrence Graham, PhD University of Guelph, Guelph, ON Dr Terry Graham was trained as a muscle physiologist specializing in metabolism. Following a PhD at Queen’s and a postdoc in Copenhagen, he took up a faculty position at Guelph in 1976. He has a published approximately 180 papers, supervised over 60 graduate students and has continuously held NSERC funding for 36 years. Terry has always studied human subjects and a major interest has been lifestyle and long term health. He realized that both activity and diet are vital to health and the benefit of either is dependent on the other. However, exercise physiology and nutritional sciences were commonly two solitudes. A major career goal is to see these integrated. The evolution of the Department of Human Health and Nutritional Sciences during his decade as chair as well as the journal he edits (Applied Physiology, Nutrition and Metabolism) reflect this philosophy. He has interacted with and served on committees for Dietitians of Canada and is an active member of and has served on the executive of both the Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology (CSEP) and Canadian Nutrition Society. It is a reflection of his respect for both disciplines that CSEP recognized him with their Honour Award in 2004 and today he is receiving this award from the Canadian Nutrition Society.
