WHAT IS THE MRIA? The Marketing Research and Intelligence Association (MRIA) is a Canadian not-for-profit association representing all aspects of the market intelligence and survey research industry, including social research, competitive intelligence, data mining, insight, and knowledge management. Members include over 1,400 practitioners, small-to-large research houses, and the many buyers of research services, such as financial institutions, major retailers, insurance companies and manufacturers.

Why be a member? Gold Seal Certification This certification indicates that a Corporate Research Agency is operating according to world-class professional standards for market research.

CMRP This individual designation is the Canadian market research industry’s foremost professional accreditation.

Education The MRIA provides in-class and online education opportunities to learn about core fundamentals as well as cutting-edge courses covering more advanced and intricate aspects of marketing research.

Corporate Training This includes customized training to members on core topics as well as specialized areas of marketing research. Delivered to a corporate client at a time, location and method that works for them. Additionally, the MRIA offers a Professional Development Webinar Series (beginning in January 2018), an online learning program that will bring in-demand market research topics to the comfort of your home and office.

Industry Exposure The MRIA provides a number of advertising and exposure opportunities for market research companies including online advertising, partnerships, directory listings, and sponsored webinars. Help build your marketing toolkit!

Networking & Access to Talent The MRIA offers a multitude of event opportunities spanning the various disciplines and segments in market research. Members receive unprecedented access to specialized talent through the MRIA’s Student Resource Centre.

GOLD SEAL CERTIFICATION (CORPORATE) AND THE CMRP (INDIVIDUAL) The Gold Seal Certification is a monitored self-assessment process that is available to all MRIA Corporate Research Agencies. Gold Seal Certification signifies that a member agency is operating according to world-class professional standards for market research. There are currently 59 Gold Seal members. Having a Gold Seal Certification gives you a competitive advantage. The Certified Marketing Research Professional (CMRP) designation signals to members of the marketing research community that holders have the fundamentals skills needed to excel at marketing research in Canada. It is the industry’s professional accreditation that provides recognition to those individuals who have both the core body of knowledge required to undertake marketing research and intelligence work and significant experience in the industry.

The MRIA offers four “Pathways” for individuals to obtain the CMRP

Pathway #1: Post Graduate Applicants will have successfully completed an MRIA-accredited Marketing Research Program, and must have two or more years of practical experience in the market research industry. This pathway requires completion of MRIA’s Standards and Certified Marketing Research Exam (CMRE) Prep course, as well as Part A of the CMRE.

Pathway #2: MRIA Courses Applicants must be University or College graduates (any major), must have successfully completed the MRIA’s 11 Core Courses, and must have two or more years of practical experience in the market research industry. This pathway requires completion of MRIA’s Standards and CMRE Prep course, as well as Part A and B of the CMRE.

Pathway #3: CMRE Challenge Applicants must be University or College graduates (any major), and must have six or more years of practical experience in the market research industry. This pathway requires completion of MRIA’s Standards and CMRE Prep course, as well as Part A and B of the CMRE.

Pathway #4: Experienced Practitioner Applicants must be University or College graduates (any major), and must have ten or more years of practical experience in the market research industry. This pathway requires completion of MRIA’s Standards course. Applicants must also provide a detailed account of their personal experience and competencies, and provides two attestments. They must also provide a paper stating their perspectives on the marketing research industry, and the benefits of attaining the CMRP designation (500-1000 words).

EDUCATIONAL OFFERINGS Core Courses The twelve courses in this category comprise the Professional Education path to the Certified Marketing Research Examination (CMRE). These courses range in topic and complexity, but when viewed as a whole, they represent a diverse and critical wealth of knowledge for any individual who wishes to be recognized as a Certified Marketing Research Professional (CMRP), or to brush up on a particular topic. Core courses are also offered online through the MRIA portal.

Professional Development Courses Professional Development courses comprise everything else that MRIA offers as a course. PD courses are generally higher order in terms of complexity, and may be better suited to individuals with moderate-to-extensive experience in their field, or who have already attained the CMRP designation. The MRIA offers PD courses that are more universal in nature, regardless of field or experience.

MRIA Professional Development Webinar Series Coming in 2018, the MRIA Professional Development Webinar Series will provide a webinar program that covers new skills and thinking in marketing research. The webinars provide a flexible and cost-effective way for participants to learn at their own pace. These are ideally suited for busy professionals looking to improve their knowledge on the topics that are most important to market research. This webinar series delivers quality content and an opportunity for knowledge sharing that comes straight to your desktop. Saving time and resources, there’s no need for travel or time out of the office. Participants can engage in fully-interactive live training and take part in real-time Q&A sessions. The webinar series presents twelve new webinars each year, one per month. The topics will normally fall outside the scope of the Core Courses and current Professional Development Courses. Instead they will focus on specialized areas or topics of special interest to members. Webinar topics could include Selling Research, Econometric Modelling, Introduction to Semiotics, Game-Based Research Methods, Social Media in Marketing Research, Introduction to Artificial Intelligence for Market Research, Introduction to Behavioral Economics, and more.

INDUSTRY EXPOSURE Research Buyers Guide (RBG) The MRIA Research Buyer’s Guide is an exclusive opportunity only available to Corporate Members. Being listed in the Guide ensures prospective clients that your organization adheres to the highest levels of marketing research quality and standards in Canada. Listings can be in any of the following categories: Full Service Research Supplier, Quantitative Research Supplier, Qualitative Research Supplier, Market Research Consultant, Data Collection & Sampling, Facility Provider, Qualitative Recruiter, and Other Service Provider.

Partnerships Program Becoming an MRIA Partner signifies to the industry that your organization supports the Association in its various growth initiatives. Partners are recognized for their generous support throughout the year in a plethora of mediums that include website exposure, press releases, recognition in the weekly Pulse newsletter, event recognition, event passes, and delegate lists. Partnership programs can be designed and tailored to meet the needs of individual corporate members.

Event Sponsorship The MRIA has dozens of scheduled events per year, with hundreds of individual delegates in attendance. The events can be organized by regional chapters, or can focus on specific research methodologies or organization types. There are also national events. Sponsorship and/or exhibitor opportunities are available for every event and provide members with needed exposure and brand awareness in a very competitive environment. Some of the largest sponsorship opportunities at national events include the Qualitative Research Conference (QRC), Net Gain Conference, and the MRIA Annual Conference. Additionally, Emerging Leaders Task Force (ELTF) and Client-Side Researcher Council (CSRC) events are very popular.

ACCESS TO TALENT AND CAREER RESOURCES Student Resource Centre The Student Resource Centre provides helpful information for student members. These resources offer many benefits, including job listings, career development tools, and advice regarding professional development training. The Student Career Resources section will serve as the focal point of interaction between the Association and its student members. Through this interaction, the Association will serve to deliver maximum benefits to the student members. As well, the Association will encourage them to attend events and professional development courses. The Student Career Resources section will have two main sections, a job bank and a career resources section.
