Change Your Destiny - New Recruitment Campaign Launch Monday 4th April sees the launch of our exciting new recruitment campaign “Destiny”. Following the success of the multi national award winning Heroes campaign over the past two years, the Marketing team have been busy over the past six months devising a campaign that would continue to attract ever increasing numbers of potential students to the College and would stand out from the competition of other Colleges in the region. The concept of the “Destiny” campaign is focused on communicating to potential students that by enrolling on a course at Central Bedfordshire College they have the opportunity to control and change their destiny into whatever they want it to be. Their future is in their hands but by working with the College we will give them the training and skills necessary to ensure they have the qualifications and opportunities to succeed and excel in their chosen career.

6 At the heart of all our campaigns remains the strong belief that it is our students that are the best marketing tool for our college. Therefore, all of the students in the campaign are existing students on a variety of courses across the different departments. The external agencies used are all ex-students who have gone on to build their own successful business in their chosen field. This includes the photography, design, and hair and makeup. Not bad for ÂŁ4,500! As always the students involved had a great time during the making of the campaign, and worked brilliantly with all involved, always being polite and helpful. We hope you all like the new campaign and help us to promote it to potential students to increase our enrolments and to promote the College.

Fashion Show On Thursday 31 March the Department of Creative Arts hosted their third annual Fashion Show and opened their doors to showcase the abundance of creative talent housed within the College. Students designed items for the show representing various courses from further education through to higher education: Diploma Art & Design, National Diploma Art and Design and the Foundation Degree in Fashion & Surface Pattern Design. Students from other courses also got stuck in to support the show; Media students took care of the sound, lighting and filming of the event, Photography captured the images and Performing Arts students performed some amazing routines. The models for the show were also students. This year the show was based around the themes of Light, White, Memories, Deconstruct and Reconstruct, Cultural Adornment and Surreal Icons. The students worked towards the show for a total of six weeks and the finished effect was a credit to all of their hard work and commitment. The Department of Creative Arts will be holding their annual summer exhibition in June where the work from the show will be available to view. For more photos, please see the next page.

Library Update If you don’t know what this is you are not alone. It’s called a QR code. Think of it as a complicated barcode that can be read by many smartphones. They are normally used as links to websites but can also do other things like containing text. The Library is going to be putting a few of these up around the College as a way to promote awareness of our online catalogue so if you see any interesting posters up on the wall, for once it isn’t the art students. http://melvil.centralbeds.ac.uk/heritage/
Our Lives Books This is a series of new books in the library written by people from different cultures about their experiences of living in Britain. Students of English tell their own stories. Keep a look out for them!

ESOL students launch Language Centre
Self-Study
English
Central Bedfordshire College students studying ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) have set-up a Self-Study English Language Centre to help others students learn the English Language. The Centre which is based in the Library at the Dunstable Campus, is run by ESOL volunteers who are on-hand to provide additional support for students, providing them with information on where to source help for their studies, such as which books and websites to use. All of the volunteers have just completed their CELTA (Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults) qualification, so are ideal individuals to help other students. The Self-Study Centre is also an ideal opportunity for students to gain valuable work experience whilst still completing their studies at the College. ESOL Tutor, Elzbieta Grabska-Moyle, commented, “The SelfStudy English Language Centre is an ideal opportunity for students to help other students to learn the English Language. It not only provides the volunteers with work experience but also enables them to pass on their experiences of studying at the College to other students.
