HE Centre Name and Branding Revealed The new HE Centre is now open and due to be officially launched on 26 November. To give the Centre a seperate identity, it has been given a new name and branding. Named ‘THE Store’, it is hoped the identity will stand alone as a symbol of Higher Education in the local area, as well as communicate to prospective students that the College is a modern, cutting edge education establishment. Inline with the branding for THE Store, there is a new 2011/12 HE Guide currently being produced in-house that features the same branding.

Football News Amersham and Wycombe who are linked with premiership giants Chelsea FC were the opponents for this home fixture for Central Bedfordshire College. After a slow start to the game, Central Beds then upped the tempo. 15 minutes into the game Kyron Jackson swung a superb cross into the box which was met the head of Bryn Reynolds and was emphatically despatched. After the restart, Central Beds pushed hard for the second. Reynolds was at the forefront of the attack terrorising the opposition defence. He out muscled two defenders and struck the ball home for his and Central Beds second. A demoralised Amersham and Wycombe team were getting over run in midfield. Dave O’Brian and Sam Peveral where dictating play in the middle of the park, with Jake Bewley sitting just behind them sweeping up anything in his path. Just on the verge of half time Jake Bewley hit an astonishing 30 yard ball which was plucked out of the air elegantly by Reynolds. Reynolds in an instant struck fiercely across goal. The keeper did well but only managed to push the ball into Ryan Ellingham’s path, where he smashed the ball into the roof of the net. The game seemed to be over. However, in the second half the opposition came out all guns blazing, putting the Central Beds defence under immense pressure. Captain George Higley was organising the defence well as Central Beds looked impenetrable. But a slip at the last minute from Connor Smith gave away a harsh penalty which was cooly converted. This gave the visitors a much needed lifeline.
...Football News (continued) Key man Sam Pevral started rallying the team putting in a man of the match performance, winning every header and tackle that came his way Central Beds where now dominant. The lightning pace of Ellingham and the neat tricks from Ryan Adams were exploiting the oppositions defence. Chances were being created at will, but Central Beds failed to score and put the game to bed. Out of nowhere the visitors scored. An unlucky deflection gave Central Beds keeper Ryan Darby no chance. This put the game on edge with 10 minutes left to go. But tidy ball retention by Central Beds helped see out the rest of the game with out any scares. All in all, an impressive performance from Central Bedfordshire College and a well deserved 3 points.
Motor Vehicle Revamp Over the summer the Motor Vehicle Team took it upon themselves, spending their own time and money revamping the workshop at Houghton Regis. Here are some pictures to show you the results!

Learners Views Survey Teaching staff may remember carrying out the ‘Framework for Excellence’ Learner Views Survey with our learners on long courses in the last academic year between December and February. Over 1,400 of our learners took the survey. The results were published by the Skills Funding Agency this week and the College overall received a score of ‘good’ from our learners. This is an excellent result and an improvement from the previous year when our score was ‘satisfactory’. Everyone has contributed to the experience our leaners receive and thank you to all the Course Team Leaders who helped adminster this with their students.

...Local Employers Fill the Skills Gap with Central Bedfordshire College (continued) These are some of the comments from our employers Ceri Smith HR Manager - Fine Foods International The programme proposal: Once the results of the review were analysed, CBT devised and presented a senior management development programme proposal of delivery. This programme planning was implemented with a high degree of professionalism. CBT consulted with me in order to determine the right fit of training consultant with the senior management group, taking into consideration consistency and alignment with previous strategic work undertaken by the business. Management response and impact: The evaluation and feedback received from management has been very positive overall. Learning outcomes have been carried forward and merged into business activity with the purpose of bringing real benefits to the company and the individuals within it. Tim Hockridge Operations Manager - Tour & Andersson The entire Senior Management Team following a business review attended a Leadership and Management programme, focussing on strategic planning, improve/maintain success and managing people through change. The programme has enabled us to think very differently with managing the change in our business and provided the management team with a fresh approach that turned many negatives into positives and a real can do attitude now exists throughout the company.
