Director’s Notes

To Kill a Mockingbird is one of the greatest American stories ever told. It is the story of a child’s coming of age, small-town southern life during the Depression and the ever-prevalent struggle of black Americans.

In 1960, when the novel was first published, it stayed on the New York Times bestseller list for over 80 weeks. And just last month, 56 years later, this book was number two on the Washington Post’s bestseller list. In 1961, it won the Pulitzer Prize for fiction. The film premiered in 1962 with a screenplay written by Horton Foote and starring Gregory Peck. It was a Best Picture nominee and won three Academy Awards. By 1966, the book had sold 10 million copies and was published in a dozen languages around the world.

I was first introduced to the book back in 1969 when I was 13 years old and in eighth grade. I have reread To Kill a Mockingbird at least every five years since. In the 1960s, our country was in the midst of social unrest over civil rights, the Vietnam War and the Cold War. However, the voices of Scout and Atticus Finch resonated deeply within the social conscience of our youth, providing a sane and powerful message.

I’d like to think we’ve come a long way since 1960, and that we’ve come even a longer way still since 1935, when the story begins. To Kill a Mockingbird forces us to look back on our history in all its ugliness and beauty, to make us accept who and what we are as Americans. More importantly, however, To Kill a Mockingbird reminds us of the harsh realities of life and the discovery that the world is often truly unjust. This story also reminds us of the inspiration we attain when we see someone who bravely and publicly stands up for what is right, humane and compassionate, and hopefully, the powerful lesson that each of us needs to learn: how to walk around a bit in another person’s shoes.

Ms. Nelle Harper Lee has passed; however, she leaves behind a legacy that will keep her, Atticus, Scout, Jem, Dill, Boo Radley, Tom Robinson and Bob Ewell in our collective memories for a long time to come.

Meet the Cast

(in alphabetical order)

Leila Abarca (Ensemble) is a fifth-grader at Mount Vernon Community School. This is her first play at LTA, and she is thrilled to be a part of it! She is currently participating in her third after-school drama club session with Rachel Alberts and Annie Vroom, and she is excited to play Gertrude in Hamlet Hears a Who this year. Last summer, she participated in several sessions of musical theater camp, and she loves to sing, dance and teach herself show tunes.

Kirstin Apker (Stephanie Crawford) is honored to make her LTA debut in this iconic American tale. She has appeared locally in Moon Over Buffalo (SMP), Murder on the Nile and Life With Father (ACCT) and American Lit by James Bruns at the Capital Fringe Festival. Kirstin’s other favorite roles include Fraulein Kost in Cabaret, Elaine Harper in Arsenic and Old Lace and Granny Weatherwax in Wyrd Sisters. Heartfelt thanks goes to the entire cast and crew for an incredible journey, and to Tom and her boys for making it all worthwhile.

Nycole Bell (Helen Robinson) Working with the director, producers and all other cast and crew has been a blast in my first—but certainly not last—production for the Little Theatre of Alexandria. Thank you, Mom, for keeping me fed with a roof over my head; Dad for your encouraging words; and Brandon and Leah, for your unwavering support—your belief in me keeps me going, even when I have none in myself. This is only the beginning.

Larry Boggs (Tom Robinson) is excited to be performing for the first time with LTA. Education:B.A., voice, Morgan State University; M.A.: music, New York University. Recordings: All Rise by Wynton Marsalis and the New York Philharmonic, motion picture soundtrack Gods and Generals, Hopes Too High, Hailing theMillennium and Powerful Spirit. Stage: Les Miserables as Javert, Porgy and Bess (Paris, St. Petersburg), All Rise (New York, Paris, Los Angeles and St. Petersburg), Orlandus (New York, Baltimore), world premiere. Larry is currently working on his debut CD slated for release July 2016 and is totally excited for the success of Little Theatre of Alexandria.

Danette “Elisa Jade” Bradley (Ensemble) was born and raised on the Lower East Side of Manhattan. Projects include TV One, For My Man; ID, House of Horrors—Kidnapped, Scared Stiff TV, Notorious and New York Undercover, and she was a stand-in for Theresa Randle in Spike Lee’s Girl 6. She has performed in numerous stage plays, which include Layon Gray’s The Girls of Summer in the lead role as Coach Hicks, and is featured in a film from Universal Studios, A Meyers Christmas, directed by David E. Talbert. Elisa Jade believes “she can do ALL things through Christ that strengthens her.”

Derek Bradley (Arthur “Boo” Radley) is thrilled to make his LTA debut filling Bobby Duvall’s shoes. His local theater credits include two WATCH nominations for his dual roles (Karl/Steve) in Clybourne Park (TAP). He was previously seen as Milo in Sleuth (PPF), Frost in Frost/Nixon (MCP) and Tom in The Glass Menagerie (MCP). Heartfelt thanks to New City and Wednesday Night friends for your encouragement and support.

Bill Brekke (Ensemble) is thrilled to be working at LTA for the first time. Previous theater credits include Phil Hogan, A Moon for the Misbegotten (Greenbelt Arts Center, 2014); John Birt, Frost/Nixon (Greenbelt Arts Center, 2013); Uncle Peck, How I Learned to Drive (Greenbelt Arts Center, 2012); and Captain Keller, The Miracle Worker (Synapse Theatre Company, 2011). He wants to express his appreciation to his wife for putting up with his acting stuff, and all the wonderful, patient directors he has had in the D.C. area who have taught him so much about acting.

Nathaniel Burkhead (Dill) was Tiny Tim in A Christmas Carol this past year at LTA. He has taken many classes at LTA. A special “thank you” to his parents for taking him to the auditions and enrolling him in LTA classes. He could not have done it without them. Thanks!

Kadira Coley (Ensemble) is ecstatic to be back at LTA, where she was previously seen in Ragtime. Kadira was most recently seen onstage as Viney in The Miracle Worker (ACCT). Other production credits include In the Next Room as Elizabeth (PCP), Ragtime (TAP), Once on This Island as Mama Euralie (Kuumba Players) and Aida as Nehebka (AMS and TFT). Kadira can also be seen performing with the Alexandria Singers, the Washington area’s premier pops chorus. Kadira would like to thank her husband, family, friends, fellow Singers and Brothers for their unending love and support.

Paul Donahoe (Bob Ewell) received his MFA in acting from the Professional Actor’s Training Program at Ohio University. At the Intiman Theater in Seattle, he was Edmund in Long Day’s Journey into Night with Barbara Bain, and the Bridegroom in Blood Wedding. He played Richard in Ah! Wilderness and Francisco/Ghost in Hamlet with Harry Hamlin at the McCarter Theater in Princeton. This is Paul’s first time on the boards in 33 years, and he says, “It’s never too late … getting my feet wet again.”

Melissa Dunlap (Jean Louise Finch—Adult) is delighted to be returning to the LTA stage. She has appeared in several local productions. Some of her favorite roles have been May in Fool for Love (PCP), Sarah in Laughing Stock (LTA), Elmire in Tartuffe (SHAPE), Laurey in Oklahoma! (SHAPE), Karen in Dinner With Friends (PPF), Daria in The Game’s Afoot (LTA) and Madge in The Game’s Afoot (MCP) She wishes to thank family, friends and co-workers for their support, encouragement and indulgence of her crazy schedule.

Joel Durgavich (Clerk/Ensemble) has been a longtime patron and volunteer at the Little Theatre of Alexandria. Until now, his biggest claim to fame was being the father of LTA’s 2006 A Christmas Carol Turkey Boy. With his son at UVA, Joel has decided to try his turn on stage. He would like to thank Frank for allowing him, a stage newbie, to be in this incredible play. The entire cast and crew have been a joy to work with.

Richard Fiske (Atticus Finch) is a former Navy deep sea diver and recovering attorney. He is honored to play Atticus, and proud to work with such a splendid director, cast and crew. The play’s themes, including the coexistence of good and evil and the need to choose between them, and the need to be respectful of others—no matter how different they or their opinions are—resonate as strongly in 2016 as they did 50 years ago. Even today, we can still learn from Atticus.

Erin Gallalee (Maudie Atkinson) is happy to be back at LTA, having previously performed in The Woman in Black (The Woman), TheSecret Garden (Alice) and A Christmas Carol four times! Recent productions have been A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Titania) with The Fat & Greasy Citizen’s Brigade and Cat on Hot Tin Roof (Mae) with St. Mark’s Players. She has been performing in the D.C. theater community with many wonderful companies since 1998. During the day, she works for the American Alliance of Museums.

Tony Gilbert (Judge Taylor) After 22 years in NYC, Tony left the theater for 16 years until playing Scrooge in A Christmas Carol in 2014. He has performed on Broadway in the revivals of Oliver! and Sweeney Todd, toured nationally in The Buddy Holly Story, appeared in regional productions across the nation, including the Kennedy Center and Ford’s Theatre, and acted in Law and Order. God has blessed Tony with many supporters, foremost his beautiful wife, Peggy, sons Todd and Carl, family, friends, Cedar Ridge Community Church, and now LTA & Co. Grateful he is. Wahoowa!

Robert Heinly (Sheriff Heck Tate) is honored to return to the LTA stage. You may have seen him as Jacob Marley and the Spirit of Christmas Present in six different productions of A Christmas Carol (LTA) and in Picasso at the Lapin Agile (LTA). He has also been seen in Ah! Wilderness and J.B. (TACT), The Odd Couple (PTP), One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest (PCP), To Kill a Mockingbird (FB) and Biloxi Blues (DS). Robert is grateful to God, his family and the friends of Bill W. Thanks also to Frank and an amazing cast and crew, a wonderful second family to work for!!!

Jack Kearney (Jem Finch) is thrilled to be joining such a talented cast in his first production with LTA. Jack is a sixth-grader at Mantua Elementary School in the AAP program. Roles include TheSound of Music (Bel Cantanti Opera Company and Falls Church High School), Jack in Into the Woods (Bel Cantanti Opera Company), Michael Darling in Peter Pan (TAP—where he got to fly!) and Jeremiah in An Irish Christmas Celebration (the Christmas Revels). Jack is a member of the school chorus and strings orchestra. He swims, plays tennis and participates in Civil War re-enactments as a member of the 2nd Rhode Island Volunteers, Company F.

Skye Lindberg (Mayella Ewell) is a junior theater major and dance minor at George Mason University. Theater credits with Mason Players Productions include The Blue Room (Au Pair), The Rover (Masquerader) and Monsters Calling Home (Girlfriend). Film credits include ID Channel: House of Horrors; YouTube: Call Me Swiss, Web show, independent project. Skye is also a teaching artist with Acting for Young People. She sends a huge thank you to her loving friends and family.

Jennifer McIntosh (Ensemble) was born on the beautiful Caribbean Island of Jamaica. She is an accomplished theatrical performer. Jennifer studied classical scene with the Shakespeare Theater in Washington and appeared in numerous productions, including The Trip, The Opening,Found in Space and The Arranged Marriage. Film credits include Head of State, Hitting the Ground, Twilight of the Dogs, A Razzin in Grindstone and a public service announcement for D.C. television. Jennifer also appeared in an episode of the TV series The District and worked on the stages of Encore Theater, Creative Ascent and the Lansburgh/Shakespeare Theatre.

Olivia McMahon (Jean Louise “Scout” Finch) is thrilled to be making her debut at the Little Theatre of Alexandria. She has been studying and performing with Stage Two Conservatory in Leesburg, Virginia, since she was 4 years old. Favorite roles include the Cowardly Lion in The Wizard of Oz and Ramona in Ramona the Pest. In addition to acting, she is studying musical theater and Irish dancing. She dreams of performing on Broadway. Olivia is so very grateful to her supportive family and friends as well as her amazing fellow cast members and dedicated crew.

Marian Morton (Ensemble) is a fifth-grader at Mount Vernon Elementary School, where she’s performed in several plays, including Hamlet Hears a Who and Fantastic Fabulous Fables. Marian has also performed in The Wizard of Oz, The Hobbit and Spinnin’ Ain’t Easy at Synetic Theater Camp and played the lead in Annie at Camp Carysbrook for girls. Marian is a member (vocals, drums, piano) of the rock band Splatter Paint, which has played two sold-out shows at the Birchmere. She’s excited to perform in her first play at LTA.

Paul Morton (Ensemble) is truly grateful to have the opportunity to perform on the LTA stage again. Past LTA shows include Hair, The Taming of the Shrew, The Comedy of Errors, A Christmas Carol, The Greatest Christmas Pageant Ever, Victor/Victoria, The Music Man, The Teahouse of the August Moon, The Visit and Intimate Apparel (WATCH nomination). Many thanks and gratitude to everyone for their work in bringing this American classic to life, and to my friends and family for their support.

Jelen Moxley (Ensemble) is 21 years old and has been performing in plays for over four years. He got his start at the Harbor School Playhouse in Annapolis, MD. Jelen is thrilled to be performing at the Little Theatre of Alexandria. He has performed in productions of Fame Jr.;Yes,Virginia; Cinderella; Christmas in the Land of Oz; and many more. He enjoys rehearsing, reading books and hanging out with friends in his spare time.

Matt Neufeld (Nathan Radley) is happy and humbled to be in this classic production. Matt has been acting in film, television and theater since he was 10. Theater credits: Hieronym in Before/After; Sheriff McClelland in a stage production of Night of the Living Dead; Francis in Self, Inc.; the Policeman in Guys and Dolls; and Mendel in Fiddler on the Roof. Film and television credits include American Titans, Racing the Times, National Treasure 2: Book of Secrets, State of Play, My One and Only, House of Cards, VEEP, Game Change and Aspirin for the Masses

Brenda Parker (Calpurnia) is thrilled to return to LTA! Her first production at LTA in Hairspray (Motor Mouth Maybelle) earned her a WATCH nomination! Since then she’s gone on to other noteworthy dramatic and musical roles such as Violet Weston in August: Osage County and the church soloist in The Color Purple, both at TCP, and most recently in one of her dream roles, Lilli Vanessi/Kate in Kiss Me Kate (2SP). Thank you, God, for letting me share my gifts. Thank you so much to my awesome family, supportive coworkers and friends.

Richard Pecantte (Ensemble) makes his debut with this production. He is a cast member in this season’s television show House of Cards. He appeared in the Washington Opera’s productions of Aida, Elektra, Jenufa, La Clemenza di Tito, Samson and Delila, Norma and Porgy and Bess. He also appeared in La Bayadère and Romeo and Juliet (American Ballet Theatre); Napolia (Royal Danish Ballet) and The Nutcracker (Kirov Ballet). He holds degrees from the University of the District of Columbia (bachelor of arts) and the University of Maryland (master of international management).This fall he is to be certified in television production at Fairfax Public Access.

Frank Riley III (Reverend Sykes), whose hometown is Richmond, Virginia, is exceptionally excited to be cast in such a wonderful play with a great cast that displays the utmost professionalism. He wants to personally thank director Frank Pasqualino for giving him this opportunity. Past experiences include a commercial for HealthSouth Hospital in Richmond and a part in the movie Hannibal. After taking some time off, Frank is now getting back into the theater scene and is currently taking an acting class at LTA under Mike Baker. Frank is a single father of two sons, and he is a police officer with the city of Alexandria.

Patricia Spencer Smith (Mrs. Henry Lafayette Dubose) is happy to be back at LTA and working with Frank and this talented cast and crew. She was seen last season in The Game’s Afoot. Earlier LTA shows include The Music Man and Lend Me a Tenor. From 2005 until this year she lived in Connecticut and was active on the stages of Connecticut and Rhode Island, most notably Rhode Island’s Granite Theatre. In September she concluded her work there with Agatha Christie’s The Unexpected Guest. Patricia would like to thank her grandchildren for their love and support.

Tameka Taylor (Ensemble) is a trained actress who has recently performed classic Shakespearean roles from plays such as The Tempest, Henry IV and Othello for the Flying Muskrat Theatre Company production of She Speaks! and was recently selected as one of the finalists for the 2015 Monologue Madness tournament in Washington. She studied theater at East Carolina University and went on to study at the prestigious D.C.-based Shakespeare Theatre Company, where she worked under faculty with prolific acting careers. Thanks to my family for all their support and allowing me to follow my dreams.

Zachary Todd (Walter Cunningham) has played Father Christmas in The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe; Mr. Fezziwig/Old Joe in A Christmas Carol; and the policeman in House of Blue Leaves, all with the Providence Players of Fairfax. Cal Whitehurst (Mr. Gilmer) has performed numerous roles at LTA and other area community theaters, although his performance as the prosecuting attorney in To Kill a Mockingbird marks the first time he has been lucky enough to work under the talented direction of Frank Pasqualino. Among his LTA roles are Bob Cratchit in the 2012 production of A Christmas Carol and Mr. Jordan in Heaven Can Wait. alphabetical order)

Rachel Alberts (Co-Producer) has been directing, producing and writing plays for children for a dozen years. Rachel also teaches drama in the Alexandria public schools and is a founder, writer, and director for LTA’s PET (Partnership in Educational Theater) Project, a community outreach program that performs literature-based programs for local schools using LTA actors. She is a three-time recipient of LTA’s Award for Excellence in Producing, serves on the board as the Governor of Public Relations and is the 2012 recipient of Alexandria’s Salute to Women Award for Cultural Affairs.

Rebecca Balough (Assistant Stage Manager) is excited to be back for her third show at the Little Theatre of Alexandria. She’s done backstage work on Cheaper by the Dozen, A Christmas Carol, The Miracle Worker, Grey Gardens and Little Women as an assistant stage manager and sound technician. Thanks to all the stage managers, cast, and crew who have welcomed her back despite her sarcastic jokes.

Lori Bonnette (Makeup Design) is excited to design makeup for To Kill a Mockingbird. This is her third production with LTA. Other credits include: A Christmas Carol (2014, 2015 LTA), Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (2015 Alliance Theatre—WATCH Award nominee), Shrek Jr. (2015 ACCT), Pride and Prejudice (2015 ACCT) and Cheaper by the Dozen (2015 ACCT). She is so happy to be working with the wonderful director, producers, cast and crew.

Luana Bossolo (Assistant Producer/Co-Set Painting) has been painting sets at LTA for six years and won an LTA award for best set painting for The Full Monty. This is her first show as an assistant producer. She’s thrilled to be learning the production ropes from producers Rachel Alberts, Bobbie Herbst and Robert Kraus. And director Frank Pasqualino is a pretty good teacher, too.

Marzanne Claiborne (Lighting Design) is delighted to be designing the lights for To Kill a Mockingbird. Recent lighting designs include Dirty Blonde and The Tale of the Allergist’s Wife at LTA and The Miracle Worker at ACCT. She is humbled to have been one of the recipients of the 2015 Award for Most Outstanding New Member at LTA. Marzanne thanks Pam Leonowich and Micheal J. O’Connor for reprising their roles as co-master electricians.

Kadira Coley (Co-Hair Design) is thrilled be working at LTA again. Her first backstage credit was at LTA, where she stage managed a one-act play. This is her first time doing hair design, and she is looking forward to the opportunity.

Meet the Crew

Margaret Evans-Joyce (Assistant Stage Manager) has a very long résumé at LTA. She has produced almost a dozen productions and stage managed almost twice that many. She served four years as LTA’s President and is currently the Executive Secretary of its Board of Governors. She recently received the Outstanding Service to LTA Award and shared the award for the 2014 Outstanding Production of the Year for Avenue Q. After a long career in special education, Margaret retired five years ago and is now an adjunct professor at Howard University in the area of speech and language pathology.

Christine Farrell (Co-Stage Manager) is pleased to be a member of the production team for To Kill a Mockingbird. Favorite past production team credits include: The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged), The Odd Couple (Female Version), The Game’s Afoot, Spamalot, The 39 Steps, 33 Variations, Rabbit Hole and Company with LTA; Assassins, The Lion in Winter, The Wiz, Bye Bye Birdie and Midsummer Night’s Dream with SMP; Urinetown: The Musical, Bent and Love! Valour! Compassion! with DS; Godspell with ZVP; and Picasso on the Lapin Agile with 2FT.

Austin Fodrie (Assistant Stage Manager) works at Burgundy Farm Country Day School as a technology support and integration specialist. He has volunteered at Little Theatre of Alexandria, Port City Playhouse and Aldersgate Church Community Theater. His most recent productions include stage manager for Grey Gardens and assistant stage manager for The Complete Works of Shakespeare (Abridged) at LTA He is excited to be a part of To Kill a Mockingbird and to work with such an awesome team!

Donna Hauprich (Wardrobe) has worked backstage for several shows since joining LTA. She is excited to be working with this talented cast and crew. Donna finds working backstage fun, meeting so many talented actors, despite having to wash their clothes so often. By day Donna is a massage therapist, and when not enjoying time at LTA, she plays the tuba with the City of Fairfax Band.

Bobbie Herbst (Co-Producer) co-produced LTA’s TheSecret Garden, A Christmas Carol, Company, 33 Variations, Rabbit Hole, Sweeney Todd, Ragtime, The Game’s Afoot and Spamalot. She is a proud and humble recipient of LTA’s New Member Award, the Outstanding Service to LTA Award, and three co-producing awards for TheSecret Garden, 33 Variations and Spamalot. It is a pleasure and honor to work with Frank, Rachel, Robert, Luana, Christine, Micheal, Lynn and such an amazing and talented cast and crew, who have all her admiration and respect. Jim Hutzler (Co-Set Construction) has enjoyed working on set construction, set painting and stage management on many productions at LTA, most recently receiving a 2015 WATCH Award nomination in the Set Construction category for The Tale of the Allergist’s Wife. Other 2015-16 credits include The Game’s Afoot, God of Carnage, The Odd Couple (Female Version) and The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged). Jim thanks all who volunteer and make LTA the special place that it is.

Mary Hutzler (Co-Set Painting) has enjoyed painting sets at LTA, ACCT and PCP. It is a pleasure to work with the talented and enthusiastic crew and cast of To Kill a Mockingbird. In 2005 and 2012, respectively, her work for It Runs in the Family and Heaven Can Wait won the LTA Pearl Award for Excellence in Set Painting. She was nominated for WATCH Awards for It Runs in the Family, Heaven Can Wait and Move Over, Mrs. Markham. Many thanks to the cast and crew for including her in this production.

Robert Kraus (Co-Producer) is very excited, humbled and honored to be producing once again at LTA and working with Frank, Bobbie, Rachel and Luana! Robert has appeared both on and off stage in many, many capacities at various area theaters. Recent offstage producing appearances at LTA include co-producer of Boeing Boeing, Twentieth Century, All The King’s Women, Oliver!, The Secret Garden, The Sunshine Boys, Gin Game and The Ritz. Onstage appearances at LTA include roles as the Paper Hanger in Auntie Mame, Ancient Man in The Teahouse of the August Moon and a tourist in Lettice and Lovage.

Lynn Lacey (Co-Stage Manager) is always thrilled to work as SM or sound designer (SD) at LTA. Her favorites include A Streetcar Named Desire (co-SM and SD), Dirty Blonde (co-SM), Sweeney Todd (co-SM) and A Christmas Carol (SD). This show, with such an amazing cast and production team, is sure to rise to the top of that list. Lynn thanks her family and friends for their ongoing support and, as always, her ever present angel, Jennifer, for the courage to “dance.”

Pamela Leonowich (Co-Master Electrician) has been climbing the light ladders at LTA for over 10 years and is proud to follow in her mother’s theater footsteps. Her mother managed and designed productions for the troops during World War II with the British Entertainments National Service Association (ENSA). It’s always a pleasure to team with light designer Marzanne and co-master electrician Mike.

LTA is one of the oldest community theatres in the Washington D.C. area thanks to the hard work and dedication of our volunteers. A successful stage production requires many volunteers working behind the scenes before and during the run of the show. Everyone performing in and nearly everyone you see working on an LTA show is a volunteer.

Alexandra Mees (Assistant Stage Manager) is thrilled to be back at LTA as part of the To Kill a Mockingbird crew. Past productions include A Christmas Carol (2014 and 2015), The Game’s Afoot, The Odd Couple, Dirty Blonde, In the Heights, Laughing Stock, TheTale of the Allergist’s Wife, Grey Gardens, The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged) (LTA); Pride and Prejudice, Little Women (ACCT); Shining City and Stick Fly (PCP). Alex is thrilled to be working with this fabulous cast and crew and wishes everyone many broken legs (theater style, of course!) in the future.

Paul Morton (Co-Hair Design) is pleased to be a part of LTA’s production of To Kill a Mockingbird. Past hair design shows include Scrooge the Musical, Greater Tuna and The Three Trials of Oscar Wilde. For this category, he has received six WATCH nominations and two wins. Many thanks and love to this talented and dedicated cast of performers and production team members.

Jeff Nesmeyer (Co-Set Construction) is pleased to be working at LTA once again and sharing the duties of master carpenter with Jim Hutzler. Jeff has been helping out with set building for the past several years at LTA, and this is his second venture as co-master carpenter. He thanks LTA for its confidence in his carpentry abilities.

Micheal O’Connor (Co-Master Electrician, Co-Stage Manager) stage managed Time Stands Still for MCP, See How They Run, Nunsense and Boy Gets Girl for VTC, The Heidi Chronicles for FP, Bus Stop for RCP, A Fine and Private Place and The Adventures of Tom Sawyer for DS. He co-stage managed Colder Than Here for VTC and was ASM for Shrek, Sunset Blvd., 33 Variations and August: Osage County for RCP. He can be found backstage or in the tech booth, always in the dark.

Michael Page (Stage Combat Choreographer) is a SAFD (Society of American Fight Directors) certified actor combatant and studied stage combat at Christopher Newport University, where he received a B.A. in theater studies with a minor in dance. He was recently nominated for the WATCH Award for Outstanding Achievement in Fight Choreography for the 2015 production of The Miracle Worker at ACCT. Other fight choreography credits include Man of La Mancha and The Trials of Robin Hood at ACCT as well as About a Girl in the 2014 D.C. Fringe Festival.

Meet the Crew

Frank Pasqualino (Director) is very excited to be directing back here at LTA, having directed The Game’s Afoot last season. Frank’s other LTA directorial credits include The Foreigner and Love, Sex, and the IRS. In 2007, he directed the Washington area premiere of Intimate Apparel, which won the Ruby Griffith Award for Outstanding Achievement in a Play and for which he received a WATCH nomination for Best Director. Frank is very active directing and working with various theater groups in the D.C. area, most recently having directed Once Upon a Mattress at PGLT and Over the River and Through the Woods in its previous season. Frank also enjoys directing children’s theater, having directed numerous shows for Encore Stage and Studio and Mount Vernon Community Children’s Theatre. Frank was last seen on stage in Port City Playhouse’s production of Black Hole. He wishes to thank his family, especially his wife, Donna, for all her love, support, and encouragement. Bruce, I know you are watching, too.

Dan Remmers (Set Design) is pleased to be working with Frank again on such a classic show. He would like to thank his mentors, Jack Schaeffer and Jerry Wolfe, for their many years of dedication, encouragement and inspiration.

Deborah Remmers (Set Dressing) is thrilled to work with this talented, passionate production crew and to have an opportunity to apply my creative skills in a new format. I’m grateful for my brother Dan’s encouragement and the support of my wonderful husband.

Donna Reynolds (Co-Properties Design)is pleased to have the chance to work with Frank once again, especially on such a powerful show. Previous props designs at LTA have included Widdershins, The Foreigner (with Bobbie Herbst) and Picnic. Most recently, she did props for The Miracle Worker (ACCT) and set dressing for this season’s TheTale of the Allergist’s Wife (LTA). In a past theater life, she also stage managed, produced and even appeared onstage (twice!). Thanks to our wonderful production team.

Jean Schlicting and Kit Sibley (Co-Costume Design) are proud to costume this iconic play with its timely message. Aka “Kitnjean” or “the ladies,” they have costumed many shows at LTA, including WATCH Award winner and LTA Award winner Hairspray and LTA Award winners and WATCH nominees Gross Indecency, Heaven Can Wait, Boeing Boeing, Into the Woods, 1776 and The Rocky Horror Show. Casey Wilson (Assistant Stage Manager) is a junior at H.B. Woodlawn Secondary Program in Arlington. She has assistant stage managed two shows before at LTA, Spamalot (2013) and The Rocky Horror Show (2014). She directs and acts in her school’s theater program.

Alan Wray (Sound Design) is excited to be working with Frank Pasqualino once again. He designed the sound last year for Frank’s The Game’s Afoot. He also designed The 39 Steps, 33 Variations and Rabbit Hole at LTA. Alan has been nominated for several LTA Sound Design awards and has won several of them, including one for the mysterious and haunting Widdershins. He has been nominated twice for a WATCH Award: one for LTA’s Picnic and one for TAP’s The Seagull.

Russell Wyland (Rigging) is delighted to be rigging his first show at LTA … since A Christmas Carol and TheTale of the Allergist’s Wife. Although some believe Russ spends all of his free time at LTA, he is also an active enthusiast of opera and hockey and a scholar of 19th-century British literature. Russell is the Governor for Production and recently co-produced The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged).

The Council of the Little Theatre of Alexandria is a support group of interested and dedicated people who support the theatre with special contributions. Additionally, the Council has three social events per year, provides for the winter holiday decorations for the theatre, and maintains the Council Memorial Garden. The Council was organized in 1961 and presently has about 80 members, most of whom are long-term and wellestablished LTA members. Past contributions include: a new range for the Council Green Room of LTA, folding chairs and tables throughout the theatre, brass plates for the new theatre seats, new draperies in the Council Room, the computerized box office system, several grand drapes over the years, and many varied technical enhancements. Contributions to LTA from the Council have exceeded $200,000 and we gratefully accept donations from friends and members to assist in our support of LTA. We welcome new members and if you would like to become a member of the Council please feel free to contact the theatre or any of the Council officers. We are very pleased and honored to be a part of the Alexandria artistic community and are proud to be supporting one of the best community theatres in America today.
