Lieutenant Governor Greeting
Hey Division Eight!
I hope all of you are enjoying the new school year as much as I am! Hopefully you all have been attending Key club events, and planning your meetings. With the weather being so cold, remember to always dress warmly! I hope you all enjoyed this year’s NYC Fall Rally, and took the opportunity to meet new people. I mean life is all about meeting new people, and connecting with one another. I would like to remind you all that the November Divisional Meeting will be held on November 19th. The Divisional will be held at the Forest Hills library basement at 5 pm. Please encourage members, who are interested in denning for higher office, to attend the divisional meetings. As you all know LTC is right around the corner. March will be here before you all know it. This year’s theme for LTC (Leadership Training Conference) is espionage. Get ready for some cool workshops, and of course play fair! LTC will be $280 for students, and $300 for chaperones. October is the month of Breast Cancer. I am blown away by how much our division raised for the Breast Cancer Walk. This is really amazing, changing people’s lives one at a time. I really want to thank each and every one of you who came out that day. Although it was very cold, we made it through the walk! GOOD JOB everyone!
Henry Wang Lieutenant Governor New York Key Club Division 8 Cell: (347) 881-8068 Email: HenryWang.ltg@nydkc.org
To wrap this all up, you are all doing amazing. Keep up the good work, and it will all pay off at LTC, and in life in general. The best award is making another smile. Think about that, because that is where we all derive our greatest joys, from others!

Breast Cancer Walk
Breast Cancer Walk
On Sunday, October 19, a handful of our devoted Key Clubbers attended this year’s Breast Cancer Walk. Representing the EWSIS Key Club, eight newly recruited members took time off their weekend to participate in a highly praised event. Sen, Douglas, Harry, Kristine, Tenzin, and Brian— these members were all led and highly recognized by both Moheeb Ahmed and Patrick Wong, the President and Vice President of the club. All united at Corona Park, the Key Clubbers prepared for two hours of exhaustion, gratitude, and unification. Moheeb Ahmed described the scene as one giant walk of happiness. He commented on how “every five minutes, we would hear tons of cheers coming from the sidelines.” Our Key Club, along with hundreds of supporters and Breast Cancer survivors, walked form 10 in the morning to 2 in the afternoon. The walk was “long and tiring, but simultaneously fulfilling”, said Patrick Wong. This day marked a milestone for the movement for a cure against Breast Cancer, as well as the dedication of our club. When the walk has finally come to an end, our members left feeling with pride and happiness, as well as few sore feet. Imagine, being able to walk along actual survivors all unified for one purpose. They had all struggled with the walk together, and had reached the finishing mark together. It was an honor for the EWSIS Key Club to participate in the Making Strides against Breast Cancer Walk, held by The American Cancer Society. Just as last year, and the years prior, the EWSIS Key Club will continue to show its compassion and ambition through future breast cancer walks. Kevin Vazcones

Breast Cancer Walk
It was a Sunday when I went to the Breast Cancer Walk. I signed up as a walker with QHSS Key Club. On my way to the registration, I saw a few hundred people already there. They were probably here since 5 or 6 am. Some people had their pink joggers’ clothes and shoes. Some other people came with their school and wore match customized pink sweatshirts. Mainly, I saw an ocean of pink. During the walk, many people were videotaping every single moment, including me. It was really cold that day, but nobody succumbed to the weather. Everyone was determined to make it through the finish line. Honestly, I was able to stay energized by the cheers from random people on the side and the amount of refreshments/ food from the volunteer crew. After a few miles after passing the Flushing Meadow Zoo and going around the globe, I finally finished the walk with the rest of the people that day. Principally, it was miraculous to witness a whole diverse population inspired to devote their time and make great memories to support a good cause. Stiffany Wu (QHSS) Key Club is back and better than before! Starting off our new year is the Breast Cancer Walk, which was attended by many of our new, excited members. I was happy to see old and new faces walking for one of our first and largest events. There we walked along with other clubs and very passionate people. What's great with walks are the opportunities it gives to make new friends and strengthen relationships, which what happened between our board and members. Though it was a really cold day, we managed to walk the entire length and come out with newfound friendships to share throughout our year together.

Halloween Carnival "On October 24th, Cardozo High School held their annual Halloween Carnival for kids. I was lucky to be part of such a great event, and happy that over 50 members were eager to participate. Every year, Key Club is responsible for setting up a haunted house, and this year, the seniors wanted to leave their mark on the school by making it the scariest one yet. Before the carnival started, everyone was stressed out, worrying that things would not be done in time. A certain group of people were in charge of setting up the house, while another group painted the faces of the ""scarers"". There were two types of zombies: old-school zombies and walking dead zombies. And when it was all said and done, I think it was the best Haunted House that anyone had seen. When I went through the house, it was pitch black and I was scared to death, but I enjoyed screaming along with the scarers, and seeing my friends in the momentary flashes of light. Anyone who went through the house could clearly see all the hard work done by the members. We also had games set up in a classroom and the cafeteria. The games included a maze walk, hangman, plinko, and swinging pendulum (like operation). There were a lot of kids that came out to play the games and win lots of candy. It was so great to see how much fun they had and the excitement on their faces when they won candy. The halloween carnival is one of my favorite events of the year, and I, along with the all the other seniors will miss it next year!" -Rochelle Mendonca(Dozo)
Cardozo Key Club with leadership and various other clubs had held Cardozo’s Annual Halloween Carnival on October 24th. It is an event that is open to the community and one of the most successful school events in the year as we entertain children in the community and prepare them for the upcoming Halloween holiday. We also give them lots of candy and their own pumpkin for jack o lantern carving, it puts everyone at the event in a festive mood. I was chosen to help lead in the haunted house tour this year, which was incredibly fun but at the same time exhausting as there was lots of walking involved. The haunted house involved bringing people from one side and leading them through a maze where there were people dressed up and ready to scare the pants off them until the end at the other side. One of the most memorable guests that toured our maze was our school’s security guards, who had gotten so scared and powerwalked during the entire maze. Everyone of our volunteered scarers and leaders had broken down laughing at the end. During the setup and cleaning up it was a moment where everyone bonded while doing the work, it was refreshing to me as a senior in my final year to talk to the various underclassman that will soon be taking over Key Club. The underclassman enjoyed their selves with getting their Halloween makeup done with fake blood and everything. This event really struck a chord with me that I will be graduating next year and won’t be participating in another Halloween Carnival again. -Cindy Hu (Dozo)

Light the Night
Light the Night was luminous night that brought awareness to blood related cancers, such as Leukemia, Lymphoma, and multiple Melanoma. On September 20, Key Club, along with hundreds of supporters partnered with Leukemia & Lymphoma Society to formally assist this event. This event led by Harry Szeto and Mindy Zou, the President and Vice President of the Key Club, both led and executed the event smoothly. Arriving to the event site, numerous amounts of people were enthusiastic and ready for the walk. After a couple of minutes of waiting for confirmation, the director of the event escorted our group to the walk site, in order to cheer from the sidelines. As waiting for the walkers to arrive to our station, it seemed as if time could have not been any slower, however once the walkers started to arrive-- words could not explain how awestruck I was. Just as people started approaching, the balloons they were carrying were blinking simultaneous and truly illuminated the night. By cheering and encouraging walkers from the sidelines, the amount of enthusiasm and genuine support to fight these cancers were evident on the participants' faces. The additional amount of determination and willpower shown, truly empowered and radiated off of the supporter and cancer survivors. After the walk was over, our Key Club was candidly satisfied by the remarkable experience we received. In no doubt, our Key Club arrived at this event not expecting much, however was overtaken by the amount of support and wholesome care we witnessed from this striking event. In years to come, there is no doubt that Key Club will support and devote their time to these future Light the Night events. -Andrea Hong (RFK)
October DIVISIONAL RECAP
October Divisional Recap So we’re back to our usual style again! And Henry discussed old news such as the dues increase and the fall rally experience while introducing the new business. Many events to look forward to seeing are the Breast Cancer Walk, the Zombie Run, the 2nd Annual Sports Tournament, the Daily Life of a Street Vendor, the Brooklyn Free to Breathe 5k and the NYC marathon. It was really hard to choose which events to showcase this month, but even if you couldn’t attend any of the above, attending a divisional is a great way to get involved. -Emilly Tan (QHSS)
