While UDPs hustle, Belizeans pay the price Belize City, September 14, 2011 The huge scam involving the sale of butane by companies who cheat consumers is now at a larger more frightening scale. It is even bigger than when the scandal was first exposed. The scam is being officially sanctioned by the Barrow Administration, which is outrightly refusing to enforce a regulation that was signed over 200 days ago, to help protect consumers from being defrauded. Rt. Hon. George Price recuperates Belize City, September 14, 2011 The nation got a rough scare today with the news that the Father of Nation and Leader Emeritus Rt. Hon. George Price had to be rushed to the hospital after an accident he suffered at home. The BELIZE TIMES has learnt that Hon. Price fell while at home, and had to be hospitalised. This evening, Hon. Price’s family sent out a release explaining what exactly happened, and that message follows: “This morning the Rt. Hon. George Price had a fall. cancels Banco Atlántida/BSI meeting BELIZE CITY, Wednesday, September 14th, 2011 By Alton Humes It was reported to be the meeting to end all meetings: an afternoon closed-door meeting and discussion between Banco Atlántida and the Belize Sugar Industries Ltd (BSI). The plan was for Banco Atlántida to present their preliminary deal, worth hundreds of millions of dollars (in US currency), in hopes of convincing BSI workers to jump on their ‘bandwagon’ and cease the standoff to finance the ailing, cash-strapped, debt-ridden factory.
