FOR Lauren Abbondola came up with this concept for styling after going to the showrooms and passing things on the rack that she wanted to use one day. She came to me with a mood board that had a little bit of everything. She pulled the pieces she liked and styled as she went, while still creating a cohesive story. She would dress one of the girls and come up with another look to go with it by pulling out one element like a color or pattern so they would make sense. In this story you might notice each look has something to play off the other one. We wanted to achieve a playful fun mood by choosing two young models and giving them some directions in posing that would express positivity, youthfulness, friendship. We picked pastel color backdrops and one light scheme to make a soft and fresh impression from the whole story. Nude makeup with slight pink accents and natural hairstyle created a light feeling from all the looks while emphasizing the color palette of the story. All the components of the shoot were picked matching the elegant and colorful Lucy’s Magazine style as well as the Spring theme.

Recently, I was going through some old photos of my mom as a young woman growing up in the 60 and I fell in love. I was immediately driven by a vision to produce a throwback ’old/vintage/retro’ photoshoot. Looking back at those photos inspired me to remind today’s world of past fashionistas. I began brainstorming right away for locations, lighting, hair/makeup, and of course I had to find a model. I knew Daniel would be great for hair and makeup. We met up to begin planning the shoot. Soon afterwards, thankfully, I was able to book Christina. I thought she would be perfect for this theme of winged eyeliner, big hair, gloves and the scarfs. She was an absolute joy to work with. For this shoot I decided to use natural light. I find that natural light brings more life to the images. Together with Daniel’s absolutely stunning make up talent and Christina’s flawless look, we were able to capture the fresh colors, textures, and lively feelings of women in the 60s. I feel blessed to be able to share this with the world.

PU “Purple Dreams” is a photo project that combines the drama of the body, emotions, dance and dresses from the designer. Ballet and high fashion are two of the most beautiful representatives of art. This Project became especially sensual and heartfelt, thanks to the fact that the main characters are a couple not only in front of the camera, but also in life. Saori and Egor - husband and wife dance leading roles in the Moscow Kremlin Ballet. As a photographer, I am a big fan of ballet and I do photography of ballet quite often - for the fact that sensuality, emotions and sexuality are served in a graceful and aristocratic form. The elegance of the lines and silhouettes contrasts with the dynamics and musculature of the body. And together they give very strong image.

Our task was to show the beauty of designer dresses as part of the ballet shooting. And it worked great. Dresses harmoniously got into the whole image, despite the fact that even professional artists were not so easy to perform complex supporting poses in corset dresses, that were not created for this purpose. But discipline for ballet dancers is above all.
Creamy calm colors, flowing lines, half-closed eyes and “marshmallow” dresses - all this helps to dip the viewer into a dreamy atmosphere - to feel the subtlety of touch and the relationship between the characters. Maybe it's just someone's imaginations, someone's dream in purple colors ...

The idea behind this story was to communicate contemporary femininity within an environment that alludes to an industrial/ urban space—all the while maintaining a minimalist aesthetic. To create the space, we played with the idea of having a few different types of texture: Rough and hand-painted; soft pink, almost desaturated concrete; and raw, untreated wood. This became our environment to play in, and was subtle enough where the viewer can focus on our model, Destene. The styling was selected with the same approach and with what our stylist calls “no noise.” Delicate looks using designer pieces as Dries Van Noten, Loewe, Prada, Céline, Balenciaga—showing a woman with personality and savoir faire. There is a certain simplicity and transparency to each look Destine is in. The hair and make up was also chosen with these concepts in mine. In order to fits perfectly the modern / contemporary wardrobe the make up was kept minimal and done in neutral and nude shades like seen at the Spring 2019 Runways (Etro, Fendi, Michael Kors, Noon by Noor, Prabal Gurung). The look is innocent but strong.

The LA Standard is an exploration of the style, makeup, perseverance and power of women from the 1960s and 70s, and how that era of expression still affects us today. My photography is driven by exploring the potential of narrative behind each composition. As a photographer, I believe each photo’s story is accentuated at the intersection of showcasing vibrant colors while capturing subjects in a natural light. Each of my photos strives to exemplify the power of a portrait in perfect unison with the colors, textures, and styling of my subjects. The LA Standard allowed me to travel back in time stylistically, while retaining the pride and strength exhibited by modern, female identity. The creative team behind The LA Standard included wardrobe stylist Ilaria de Plano and makeup artist Kelli Shawn, both of whom share my passion for creative collaboration and retro style. Our collective goal for this shoot evolved to encompass how themes from the 60s & 70s have given way to a future of vibrancy and power manifested by today’s modern woman. Graced with our very own Jane Birkin (Ana Pauvalle) and Bridgette Bardot (Carolina Marie) of the 21st century, we set out on a 60s/70s adventure that would take us around downtown LA to various backdrops fitting of the time period, but with modernized twists. The rebellious, post-war narrative of forwardthinking youth in the 1960s and 70s produced a golden age of fashion, which Ilaria utilized heavily in envisioning the wardrobe for each model. IT girls of the era embraced individualistic approaches to style that experimented with bold colors, organic fabrics, and new patterns and materials; all of which shaped a new, free-loving, bohemian subculture for fashion icons. Ilaria’s pulls were influenced by these forward-thinking trends and she devised The LA Standard’s wardrobe to include items which would reflect this rebellious, independent nature still so inherent to women of today. Key styles and pieces we featured included a shift dress by Mina Binebine, colored tights, chokers, freeflowing ruffle dresses by Gud Apparel, and of course, psychedelic/floral prints. Not lost is our nod to Andre Courreges— inventor of the liberating mini-skirt— as Carolina wears one his vintage belts, while Ana dons a modern, Alive & Olivia pleated mini-skirt. Ilaria’s aesthetic goal was acutely executed in the wardrobe’s

ability to express that these women are confident and elegant, yet also laid back, comfortable, and unwilling to appease traditional, male bias towards tight-fitting, expressionless style. From the outset, Kelli imagined a mood board of the looks inspired by iconic, retro beauty and the results she achieved integrated classic style with modern edge. Early 1970’s makeup was a continuation from the late 1960s influence, with “simple and effortless” beauty trends— a revolution in makeup which still persists today. A majority of these classic techniques were brought into play for this project, such as shimmering pastel eyeshadow, earth tones, bronzed skin, and dewy or glossy lips. Kelli took these classic looks and skillfully blended in modern characteristics such as bolder brows and flawless looking skin. The periwinkle eyes and peachy pink lips of Look 1, bring a sense of sweetness to a vivid color palette while still completing the look. In this regard, Kelli’s key styling secret to implementing color is not spotlighting every feature at the same time. Look 2 included clean makeup with earth tones to accentuate Carolina and Ana’s gorgeous bone structures without taking away from the bright hues and patterns all around them. Finally, Kelli employs freeflowing wavy hairstyle with a middle part to give the feeling of uncomplicated beauty— a desire sparked in the 70’s and still hotly sought after in the trends of today. This conjecture of flawless beauty and effortless style is both a constant in Kelli’s work, and the epitome of our team’s collective goal in bringing The LA Standard to life.

It all started with creating a shoot, which is artful and different from what we’ve created so far. The search for the right shapes and colors was carefully considered. It should not lose its simplicity. For this reason, the makeup artist has always done only 1-2 colors for a look. Even the shapes have been kept so simple; that’s what creates this strong look.
For these looks we needed a model which on one hand brings delicacy and on the other hand still has a strong expression to properly convey the power of shapes and colors. Tiggy from australia was just the right model! Her soft face combined with strong expressions and poses fits perfectly. We shot this editorial as a part of the Mastered Accelerator program. Mastered is an online school and mentorship program for all disciplines in the fashion industry from designers, stylists and MUAH, to art directors and photographers. During the eleven-month program, we had a few physical “meetups� where we networked, shot editorial in teams, had portfolio reviews with industry experts, and attended workshops. Getting the opportunity to meet and work with other professionals in the fashion industry is always incredible and Mastered students are no exception. A truly international crowd, some of the connections made at these events will last a lifetime and help build great shoot teams all over the world. This editorial was photographed during our fall meet up in New York. Although, shooting an editorial while you are at a Mastered event is optional, most students find it to be the best part of the whole weekend. Long before the event there is a big scramble in our Mastered Facebook group to create teams and begin storyboarding ideas. We had a complete team until the last moment when everything fell apart! Our designer decided not to come, our MUAH was accidentally transferred to another group and we couldn’t find a stylist. At one point, it was down to just Julie Kostic our art director and myself, but we were determined not to give up. I raided my own personal closet for garments, recreating the tropical vibes from the original storyboard and Julie used her personal network to find Danielle Gerkens our make-up artist.

It’s the perfect time to escape the cold weather doldrums and travel somewhere warmer. If you can’t get out of town simply have a staycation and bring tropical vibes to the city. Eclectic bright colors and bold patterns turn up the heat, while luxe accessories add the perfect island flair.
An hour before the shoot, during our lunch break, we managed to pull in Bri Bird our hair stylist and a fabulous accessories designer, Clare Hynes. T h a n k f u l l y, Mastered takes care of hiring models and we really lucked out with Shaterrica Hyder the most amazing model at the whole event. Not only is Shaterrica beautiful, she has such an easy, natural ability to model, not to mention she is tough as nails. The swimwear shots were taken as a big fall rainstorm was rolling in and the temperature dropped into the 40s. She was absolutely shivering as we wrapped the shoot, but made it look like a beautiful warm day. My own lovely retoucher Valerie Korotchenko and I did the postproduction together, as retouching is the one discipline not taught at Mastered. She handled the skin and clothing
retouch, while I did all of the color grading. Although I can retouch, for me it is far more economical and timely to work with a retoucher, and her skills far surpass my own. In this situation, the team split the cost to hire her as we were equally involved in the shoot and no one was technically leading the team. In team situations such as this, everyone on the team is responsible for sharing the costs of the shoot. The final result is Urban Escape, an editorial I am thrilled to have been a part of creating. Counterfeit = made in exact imitation of something valuable with the intention to deceive or defraud. Counterfeit is an editorial based upon the manipulation of models within the fashion industry. We wanted to show how the behind the scenes of a photoshoot looks in reality alongside with the image of models in the fashion industry and how sometimes they are treated like dolls. To counterfeit means to imitate something authentic. In our story, we show the story of the model imitating being the clothes. Thrown in washing machine, getting steamed, pinned, ironed and left out to dry. I have had this idea of a beautiful bored girl at home, trying on different outfits just to make time go by faster for a little while. I could see her in her room, which almost looks like mid-moving houses, laying on a beautiful black carpet, doing anything and everything to avoid the boredom and finally succeeding at it…for that one last shot. I wasn’t sure who to call to play the part so when Ana flew from
Brazil to Argentina, I knew she was the one. This was one of the first jobs she had in the country and being only 16, she was super professional and great to work with. We even learned a little bit of portuguese! I had a simple location so I knew the styling had to be fun and quirky but not too over-the-top. I went to Marina’s so that we both could put together all the pieces, including a great see-through coat she made herself. We went

through hundreds of items, from a miniature schnauzer embroidered sweater to 6 inch aqua platforms, and everything in between. In the end, these three outfits seemed to work perfectly together and with the location as well. Prior to the shoot, I told make-up artist Dolores about the concept and she loved the idea. I had in mind simple make-up but she took it to the next level using a beautiful orange-y tone for the lips and green eyeshadow, which I would have never thought would look so good! It brings out Ana’s gorgeous eyes and it comes full circle with the whole concept, as if she had been trying on some eyeshadows she found laying around. On the day of the shoot, we got together on a saturday at 10am at the location, which was a friend’s apartment, and it was ridiculously hot. Even with AC on it was unbereable, but we powered through. I had some artificial lights just in case, but there was a beautiful soft natural light coming from the windows so I decided to go with that alone. After 4 hours or so, we called it a wrap. I went home and checked the pictures immediately (as usual) and loved how it all came together. For the final selection, I decided to include some details like feet, hands or the up-side-down shot to give it more of a dynamic read.
