The site offers a variety of resources than can be used for creating an energy-and-water self-sustaining urban center. Most of the existing buildings have long, wide sloped roofs, which are, in most cases, oriented towards South, East or West. These roofs can be used for solar energy collectors, PV or solar water heaters, depending on the specific need of the activities developed inside. Having Bucharest’s temperate climate in mind, a lot of wide areas have been created for collecting either sun power or water that can be filtered and used. In addition to this, the center can use a controlled amount of the nearby Dambovita river’s water. Some of the activities that take place here, such as glass and ceramics manufacture, create a lot of heat. That heat can be redirected towards the neighboring buildings, thus limiting the use of fossil-fuel solutions.
