They seek to understand, where the product was sourced, that the workers were treated and paid fairy and that reasonable efforts were taken to reduce the impact on the environment.

Vendella is focusing on reducing our carbon footprint, packaging waste, natural resource usage and our overall effect on the environment. Combined with this is our strategies to off-set any outstanding effect on the environment by giving back which includes recycling over 2 million plastic bottles and planting thousands of native tress throughout the country per annuum.

The economic pillar includes compliance, proper governance, risk management and profitability. It is the inclusion of the economic pillar and profitability that makes it possible for Vendella to come on board with and embark on new sustainability strategies. The economic pillar ensures we take a balanced and holistic approach to our efforts as without this pillar, the whole organisation is not sustainable.

Vendella strives to have the support and approval of its employees, stakeholders and the community we operate in. Our purpose is to be respected as an organisation; internally, locally and globally. Internally we focus on retention and engagement strategies for our staff while externally, we show our support though sponsorships, fundraising initiatives, awareness campaigns, and investment in public projects. On a global scene, we are focused on how our supply chain is filled and that suppliers are also aware of the responsibilities they hold as an integral part in our industry.

Turning Recycled Plastic Into Luxury Bedding. How 2,151,621 Recycled Plastic Bottles is turning 40 winks into a sustainability effort

We are pleased to announce that our most popular bedding is massively increasing the sustainability efforts of Kiwi accommodation providers while off-setting our carbon footprint. Each bedding product is filled with ultra-fine luxury microfibre which is made from recycled plastic bottles. The bottles are sterilised, then reduced from their raw waste state and transformed into a premium microfibre. These soft luxury, hypo-allergenic fibres create a comfortable sleep that guests globally rave over. This is a significant waste reduction, right? Our tourism industry has been created on the idea of a clean, green and pristine natural environment. To continue to succeed this industry needs to make certain this is more than an idea however. It must be a reality.

If it’s important to the business of our customers it is important to us. That’s why we are throwing our support behind Keep New Zealand Beautiful. This charity has many positive impacts on New Zealand, everything from cleaning and restoring to planting, protecting, sustaining and educating. For close to 50 years their work has been vital in helping everyone to ‘do the right thing’. We’re providing a substantial annual donation to ensure this good work continues. It doesn’t stop with our financial assistance to this great cause either. We’re busy rolling out a number of initiatives that help improve sustainability in how we work and what we provide. That’s everything from eliminating fossil fuels in our warehouse to our Dream Green programme to good old-fashioned clean-up days at the beaches. We will continue to work hard at these efforts. It’s about supporting the businesses of our customers by ensuring our beautiful country can continue to attract and enthral guests. It’s about making a good impression with current visitors – and a sustainable future for the generations to come.

As part of our sponsorship arrangement with Keep New Zealand Beautiful we have created the Dream Green Initiative – another way in which we aim to sustainably grow the tourism industry while protecting the natural environment that attracts people here in the first place.
