PROFILE Highly creative and enthusiastic RIBA Part II architecture graduate. Two years experience at a high profile, AJ100 London practice covering; feasibility designs, competitions, masterplanning and developed design, across high end residential and commercial sectors at a variety of scales. Four years experience project managing, leading the design team and working on site for the build of Project Riandu; a community secondary school for the Deaf in Kenya, a charity I co-founded. Graduated with Distinction in a Masters of Architecture at the University of Sheffield, where I was nominated for the RIBA Silver Medal, the RIBA’s oldest and most “prestigious prize in architectural education globally” [RIBA]. Since graduating, I have undertaken several private commissions including a residential feasibility study within a conservation area and designs for an Airbnb in Cusco, Peru.

Pro Bono Work Project Riandu
S
ince 2014, I have been Projecting Managing and leading the Architectural Design team for Project Riandu. Our goal is to design, fundraise and build a secondary school for 200 Deaf students. From the outset, our aim was to ensure that this is a responsible volunteering project where the local community are at the heart; we are just using our skills to help in any way we can. Due to the archaic nature in which deafness is treated, there are many negative stereotypes facing the Deaf community in Kenya. Only 12% of Deaf students receive a secondary education. To help combat this, the school is adjacent to a hearing primary and secondary school as well as a children’s orphanage. Many of the facilities are shared to facilitate learning and interaction, thus breaking down preconceived conceptions.

o date, the school has seven classrooms, two dormitories, a kitchen, staff accommodation, a gatehouse and perimeter fence. The school currently has enough facilities for 100 students and staff to fully board. The dining hall is currently on site with the foundations having just been laid. We have received funding from the engineering company BuroHappold who are providing structural advice as well as designs for an anaerobic digester.

A new 300x300mm reinforced concrete column needs to be cast to support the ringbeam above. The column can be cast around the existing steel column.

uring my time as an RIBA Part I architectural assistant at award wimming AJ100 practice, Squire & Partners, I worked on around thirty-five projects at a variety of different stages from feasibility studies to technical design. For the majority of my time at Squires, I worked within a small team consisting of a Partner, a Director, two Part II’s and myself which provided me with both the intimacy and responsibility of a small practice but also the knowledge, experience and oppotunity a large practice provides.

uch of my experience at Squires involved working on competitions, feasibilities studies, planning and design development stages. Throughout the projects I worked on, I was given much creative freedom and truely part of the design process.
MArch Thesis Delusions of Grandeur
S
et within a dystopian London, ruled by ‘The Regime’, this joint thesis proposes a national broadcast house for an ecofascist, dictatorial government who has put legislative enviromentalism above the welfare of people, marking the sign of a supposedly progressive new era for London. Researching whether architecture transcends politics and ideology and if the designers own vision is progressive, can built form be a vehicle for positive change empowering its users and promoting their well-being through design?

eclaiming Barnsley is focused on highlighting the inefficiencies of many of our urban realms and in turn, providing an educational platform in which to change our insatiable thirst for demolitions. At the heart of Barnsley, my proposal is primarily a storage facility to reclaim/recycle/reuse all the materials and components from the ‘Better Barnsley Development’ demolitions which will otherwise become victimised as a result of their plans. Reclaiming at a domestic scale, workshops provided spaces for people to learn and explore the possibilities of upcycling for themselves. Reclaiming Barnsley’s very own demolitions takes centre stage, celebrating change but educating towards a more sustainable future.

Existing
BArch Work Sustaining the Unsustainable
T
he ambition for my third year thesis was the reintegration into society of those vulnerable members of society who do not have somewhere to call ‘home’. Latched onto the iconic John Lewis store in Sheffield’s city centre, ‘Sustaining the Unsustainable’ aims to have an appreciation for the short term necessities of being homeless as well as the ultimate long term ambition of safety and peace of mind. This transpires to providing immediate relief in the form of shelter, nourishment, sanitation and peach of mind. Much of my undergraduate work was focused on developing my craft through hand drawing and model making.

U
tilising the array of skills that studying and working in architecture has provided me with, I have been fortunate to have created a number of opportunities to independently work on private commissions. These have ranged from branding creation to greeting cards, residential extensions to site visits in South America. These opportunities have taught me to independently find and work with varied clients.
Photo graphy Hobby
S
ince starting to study architecture, photography has become an exciting hobby of mine. Combining travel and photography has particularly allowed me to appreciate culture from further afield. Looking at architecture through a lense enables you to analyse critical principles of form, space, light and shadow to greater details. Photography is also a great way to document my life through a visual diary.
