safety and peace of mind. This transpires to providing immediate relief in the form of shelter, nourishment, sanitation and healthcare. Addressing the long term needs involves access to counselling, education and the development of skills for employment primarily through an urban allotment system in conjunction with the John Lewis cafe, all aimed towards achieving the most important goal; re-integration with society.

Amongst many goals, Sheffield’s Homelessness Strategy showed an emphasis for ending rough sleeping and increasing good quality, supported accommodation with a reduction in temporary accommodation.

Part of my proposal was for supported accommodation, duplex flats. The idea is that the lower floor features a communal living area with private bedrooms on the upper floor. Each flat would accommodate three people. The idea is that these individuals could support each other having had similar experiences of living in unstable environments.

Due to its south facing orientation, the bedrooms feature horizontal, moveable louvres to allow the residents to physically control and craft they own environment.

This project’s focus is the detailed design of a small boutique situated within the context of Sheffield’s high streets. My boutique is a hybrid of reinvigoration. It houses the sale of products that have been given a new lease of life. These products will have been created in the workshop on site and the materials all locally sourced from around Sheffield. It opens its doors to all those in the local community who are interested in learning the skills required to upcycle and the appreciation of a products life cycle.

Furthermore, this project is linked to my thesis ‘Sustaining the Unsustainable’ with the intention of the upcycling workshop offering employment to the residents of the shelter.

I have been leading the UK Architectural Team and Project Managing Project Riandu since February 2014. Our goal is to design, build and fundrasie a secondary school for 200 deaf students in Riandu, Kenya. We are sharing the work between the supporters here in the UK and those who had the initiative in Kenya. Phase 1 and 2 commenced in 2014 and 2015 respectively and we are due to return this summer for Phase 3. The most important aspect is that this is a responsible, volunteering project where the local community are at the heart; we are just lending our skills to help in any way we can.

The site is organised into four zones; Teaching, Eating, Student Dormitories and Staff Accommodation. The building arrangements are inspired by the local children's home. In plan, this building is a fully enclosed courtyard with the primary uses featured around the perimeter and a peaceful garden in the centre. The tranquillity and life experienced through the use of planting and water is influencing our landscape designs which is a key aspect to tie the masterplan together.

To date, the school has five classrooms, two dormitories, a kitchen, a gatehouse and perimeter fence.

The school currently has enough facilities for 45 students and staff to fully board so we are around a quarter of the way through the project. We are currently designing the dining hall and staff accommodation masterplan to start works on both in the summer 2016 when we will be returning to help the local community on site.

Overall, the masterplan is designed to cater for 200 deaf students to fully board along with the necessary staff, the majority of whom will also live on site. Due to the archaic nature in which deafness is currently treated, there are many negative stereotypes facing the deaf community in Kenya. Only 12% of deaf students receive a secondary education. To help combat this, we intend for the adjacent hearing primary, secondary and children's home [in grey] to share many of the facilities to enable all of the students to interact and learn from one another, thus breaking down any preconceived conceptions.

We have received funding from the engineering company, BuroHappold who are designing anaerobic digester to implement on site in 2016. This will enable the school to use biological waste to produce gas which can the used for cooking or in the science laboratories. Furthermore, they are also offering us structural advice especially to design the dining hall..

This is the beginnings of a feasibility study I have undertaken for a friend from university.

Sam is interested in opening a bar/restaurant in York City centre, but with a twist. He intends to run the establishment as a cooperative. This would entail the employees all jointly owning the establishment as well as being operated by its members for their and the communities mutual benefit.

As well as a bar/restaurant selling locally sourced food and drinks, the project also endeavours to provide facilities the community can also benefit from. Sam is currently in talks with a scheme that helps ex-offenders receive an education, something for a variety of reasons they may have missed in their youth. The project is keen to connect with local partisans, artists, musicians, community groups, schools all to offer a space in the city centre their can call their own.

I have been working as a Part I Architectural Assistant at Squire and Partners since September 2014. In that time, I have worked on around 35 projects at a variety of different stages from feasibility studies to technical design.

For the majority of my time at Squires, I have worked within a small team consisting of a Partner, a Director, two Part II’s and myself which has provided me with both the intimacy and responsibility of a small practice but also the knowledge, experience and opportunity of a large practice.

[ENT Hospital] The project featured on this page is a feasibility study conducted on a large, urban site in the centre of London.We were instructed by the client to explore a mixed use scheme for the site consisting of residential, office and retail. The scheme was designed to open up the site and make it more accessible particularity to pedestrians as it previously was all enclosed. I developed a variety of options for the site and presented them to the client who asked as to further develop the option shown on this page.

[Moscow] Through my time at Squires, I have been fortunate to be involved in a number of high profile competitions. This project was to design a mixed use masterplan in the centre of Moscow to include residential, office, retail as well as a flagship concert hall for the home of the annual Moscow International Film Festival. We were successful in part of the competition and the client is still deliberating

the remainder of the proposal. This extract of the competition features some of my early designs for residential campaniles that feature in the masterplan overlooking the Moskav River.

Due to the compact floor plate, many of the flats are duplex’s spread out over two floors.

The campanile’s are situated both along the riverside but also to the rear of the masterplan to provide the masterplan with a landmark.
