Welcome to our exclusive interview with the esteemed General Manager of Fraser Suites Hanoi, Sandy Ng, a seasoned leader with over two decades of experience in the hospitality industry across Asia. In this enlightening conversation, she shares insights into her remarkable journey, the unique offerings of Fraser Suites Hanoi, and her vision for the future of hospitality amidst evolving landscapes and challenges.

Can you tell us about your journey in the hospitality industry and how you came to be the General Manager of Fraser Suites Hanoi?

In a career that has spanned across key cities in China, Singapore, and Malaysia, I have more than two decades of Business Operations and Management experience in the hospitality industry. I started my hospitality journey in Westin Singapore and navigated across different brands thereafter. My longest tenure was with the Shangri La group, where I spent 11 years working across regions such as China, Bangkok, Malaysia and Singapore, just to name a few. In 2015, I joined Frasers Hospitality as Resident Manager in Beijing, overseeing properties in China before becoming the General Manager of Fraser Suites Shenzhen. Leading the pre-opening team there was immensely fulfilling, as we achieved all financial targets and garnered several awards and accolades within three years, including the “Best Newly Opened Serviced Apartment of China” by China Starlight Awards and the Voyage 2018 “Best Serviced Apartment”.

As the current General Manager of Fraser Suites Hanoi, I oversee the management and daily operations for the property. In Vietnam where senior

female executives are less of a common sight, I am confident my extensive experience and cultural understanding of the hospitality industry within the region will enable me to lead the team strongly across all functions.

On the other hand, Tower B, completed in 2021, embraces a

modern design ethos characterised by minimalist and timeless interior concepts. This contemporary style resonates with guests seeking stylish and up-to-date lodging options, particularly appealing to shorter-stay visitors and younger millennials.

This role presents a dynamic array of daily challenges, injecting excitement and variety into the work routine. To effectively tackle these challenges, I engage in problem-solving, strategic planning, creative thinking, reflective learning and embracing a positive outlook. Central to success is the emphasis on people and teamwork; ensuring that team members are well equipped with the necessary skills, training, and support to excel in their respective roles.

What do you find most rewarding about your role as the General Manager of Fraser Suites Hanoi?

Navigating challenges can often lead to the most gratifying outcomes. As the General Manager, while managing my own performance comes naturally, overseeing the team’s performance brings a different level of responsibility. Effective leadership involves consistently evaluating their performance, maintaining focus, establishing clear objectives, and offering motivation. Witnessing the growth and progression of individuals within the team, guiding them towards the next stage of their careers, is immensely fulfilling. Throughout my current and past roles, I have had the privilege of nurturing and developing five individuals from mid-management positions to leadership roles, a rewarding journey that continues to inspire me.

Looking ahead, what exciting developments or plans can guests expect from Fraser Suites Hanoi in the near future?

Our primary objective is to leverage technological advancements to enhance the guest experience through the implementation of Internet of Things

(IoT) innovations. By integrating IoT technologies, we aim to optimize both guest satisfaction and operational efficiencies within our hotel management and staff.

Although technology plays a significant role in streamlining operations, our dedicated staff remain committed to fostering a homely environment where guests feel welcomed and cared for, particularly those on extended stays who may be separated from their families. We encourage our team to proactively engage with guests, forming meaningful connections that go beyond hospitality.

Nathalie’s journey into the world of travel began as a hobby during her university days, and it has since blossomed into a passion she shares with the world through social media and her blog. Join us as we delve into Nathalie’s inspirations, favourite destinations, and insights into the evolving landscape of travel.

Can you share with us the story behind your passion for adventure and luxury travel?

It all started as a hobby when my husband and I began traveling just for fun while we were still at university. He always had this passion for collecting flight miles and hotel points, so thanks to that, we were able to travel to amazing places like Bora Bora or Hawaii even when we were students. Over time, I truly fell in love with it and started to share our travels on social media and my blog.

Your platform’s name, VoyageFox, is truly distinctive and memorable. Could you share the inspiration behind choosing this name and the journey that led you to it?

The name Voyagefox came to my mind suddenly while I was lying in bed. I wanted a name that includes

“traveling” and “tips.” In Germany, we associate a fox as a clever animal - so that’s how Voyagefox was born :)

What has been the most memorable adventure you’ve embarked on so far?

That’s hard to say - every trip and destination offers a different highlight which makes it memorable. But one trip that always comes to my mind is our 3-week road trip through Peru. The country has so many landscapes to offer, and adventures await around every corner!

What is your favourite part of your job?

My favourite part about being a travel content creator is the connection with people from all around the world and seeing how they live and what their culture is. Of course, it’s also incredible

to visit places and hotels that I once was only able to dream about. I truly have to pinch myself from time to time.

What advice would you give to travellers looking to elevate their experiences while staying at business or conference hotels?

I would suggest leaving the hotel from time to time during a stay at a business hotel to explore the surroundings. Maybe there is a hidden gem, a great local restaurant, a special event, or even a great sightseeing spot nearby that can elevate the stay and combine business with leisure.

How do you think the travel industry will evolve in terms of catering to both business and leisure travellers?

I think many hotels will try to develop into places where

both business and leisure travelers can find an ideal place to stay. This could include spa areas or cozy bars where business travelers could relax after a day at work. Also, co-working places, special offers, and packages that include leisure experiences for business travelers could be an interesting possibility.

What are the 3 travel destinations on your bucket list?

I really would love to visit Namibia, New Zealand, and the small, lesser-known islands of Indonesia.

Finally, what exciting destinations or hotel experiences can we expect to see you explore in the near future?

We already have many exciting trips planned for this year, and I’m sure that many last-minute trips will come up as well - most of our travels are usually pretty spontaneous. But some bucket list destinations and hotels in Africa and Southeast Asia are definitely on the list!
