EDITOR’S LETTER Summer is a time of discovery, a time to escape. We can escape literally surrounding ourselves in new surroundings. A trip to Thailand (pg. 89) will fill the need for wanderlust. You can escape with an excursion on the water to fill the soul. There is a scientific connection between water and happiness. Research has shown getting out on the water in a boat promotes a restful state, with various physiological and psychological benefits. One of my favorite escapes is a good read, and Jane Ubell-Meyer shares the hottest 2022 Book List pg.40. In keeping that healthy state of mind takes us to the Aviv clinic (pg. 58) and the miraculous transformation they are making for so many. What better escape could there be than to enjoy our own home retreat. The Legendary La Dune on Gin Lane in Southampton listed by Harald Grant Real Estate (pg. 70) has been a hideaway for many prominent families over the years. Allison Babcock restores the perfect island escape (pg. 80) in Madaket, Nantucket. Madaket, is where my family had their summer home “The Pilot House” and it is where I grew up escaping to. As I write this note we are preparing to host the hottest party in the Hamptons this summer to celebrate the first inaugural LUX LIFESTYLE HOT LIST OF 2022 (pg 98). This will be an enthralling yearly event. We have partnered with the most exciting brands and hot new products including: Biography, Bakes & Krop, Bedside Reading, Herald Grant Real Estate, Franciacorta wine, Lifted, Lioni Cheese, Aquatech Pools, Kathy Kuo Home, and Landscape Details to mention just a few. We will be celebrating at our LUX Editor at Large Kelli Delaney Kot’s beautiful home to toast the issue and immersing LUX in the Hamptons. Wishing you a happy sunny summer, wherever it takes you.

DIEDRICK BRACKENS: ARK OF BULRUSHES Mint Museum Randolph July 16 – December 11, 2022 Diedrick Brackens: ark of bulrushes presents a new series of large-scale weavings and woven sculptures by L.A.-based artist Diedrick Brackens.. Having developed a process of combining the tactility of yarn with the ethos of storytelling, the works in the exhibition tell timeless narratives about Americana, emancipation, and remediation through pattern, body, and the power of craft. Brackens work also incorporates traditions important to the Southern region — woven baskets that relate to Cherokee nation and the Gullah people, and a particular exploration of quilts in the African American historical narrative as connected with 19th-century Freedom Quilts. The installation also includes works from The Mint Museum’s permanent collection drawing heavily from its historic quilt collection and the extensive collection of Native American basketry, and an installation about North Carolina weavers that elaborates on these important craft traditions and methods. www.mintmuseum.org

In its seventh year, Nantucket by Design celebrates the island’s unique influence on American design, delivering an exclusive experience and raising money for the NHA to continue its commitment to steward and preserve the heritage of Nantucket. This year’s events will offer curated keynote and panel discussions, exclusive cocktail parties, an online silent auction, and collaborative design work of New York School of Interior Design (NYSID) and Kean University – Michael Graves College students. Participants will also enjoy the continued partnership with The Nantucket Summer Antiques Show for a Preview Party. Exciting new additions to the line-up include a Fashion Show and master class breakout sessions, offered in intimate settings, covering floral design, entertaining, and decorative arts. “For the past two years, as we’ve all been tethered to our homes, our appreciation of where and how we live has grown exponentially. THE EDIT

The Magical Gardens Of Maple Shade By Kelli Delaney Kot Editor at large of LUX LIFESTYLE, Kelli Delaney Kot is the founder and editor in chief of KDHamptons, The Luxury Lifestyle Diary of the Hamptons. KDHamptons focuses on the alluring people, places, beauty, and glamour that comprise the true DNA of the Hamptons. When she isn’t penning her magazine columns, you will find her in her magical gardens at Maple Shade, the 1887 Victorian farmhouse she shares with husband, Dr. Mark Kot. A twenty foot privet hedge encompasses the property and 120 hydrangeas surround the house in various garden beds. My parterre garden is off of the kitchen as well as a serpentine boarder bed. Mark’s gardens are encapsulated around the pool pavilion which he designed and gated with a charming three tier post and rail fence. When I moved to the Hamptons a decade ago I had no experience in gardening, but I fell in love with the flowers and plantings which my husband had designed and decided to create my own gardens in the back part of our property. I did a lot of research visiting many of the spectacular gardens in the Hamptons and on trips to Europe as well as learning from talented garden designers including Ron Wendt, Ed Hollander, and Michael Derrig. I sketched designs and created a vision of the colors, textures, fragrances, and blooming schedule of the flowering plants I loved most and then broke ground and went for it with our talented team at Landscape Details. My husband designs his gardens and I design mine. Church and state! We have two very succinct styles: His has very primary bold colors, more Fisherman’s Bay inspired with lythrum, catmint, bee balm, astilbe, and red roses. My style is more English with a soft romantic pastel palette with delphinium, foxglove, peonies, lavender, phlox alliums and roses. Here’s a peak of what’s in bloom this summer at Maple Shade as well as a few favorite garden finds... - Kelli Delaney Kot @KDHamptons

WE’RE IN THIS TOGETHER By Juliet Kuehnle

Maybe you feel like there’s something wrong with you that you continually feel overwhelmed? Or that you can’t seem to shake the grief, fear, or anger? Or that sometimes you don’t feel anything at all, but are simply stunned or numb? Perhaps you’ve heard the following sentiment (and if you haven’t, listen closely): whatever it is you’re experiencing emotionally is okay.

“Always keep a little beach day (and night) in your heart” There is something so incredibly healing about the beach. The power of the sun (and moon) charges us and connects us to universal energies. The air is clean and crisp filled with negative ions known to elevate stress and deliver deeper healing breathes to your lungs. The sand will ground you leaving you feeling firmly connected to the earth. The southing sounds of the waves lulls you into a hypnotic state as the salt water purifies your soul. Brain imaging research has shown that proximity to water is strongly linked to your brain releasing feelgood hormones, including dopamine and oxytocin. Pair this with some focused intention and be prepared for some big magic!

“Change your energy, change your life” Native Americans and other indigenous peoples have burned sage for centuries as part of a spiritual ritual to cleanse a space or person, and to promote wisdom and healing. Enrich your beach ceremony experience by first clearing the energy with these fabulous creations adored with mega healing crystals and soothing aromatic flowers and herbs. www.pamelarobins.com If you’re ever in California be sure to visit Pamela at her tipi for a life changing sound bath.

“You are magic, don’t ever apologize for the fire in you” The element of fire provides fast and visual means of releasing and healing strong feelings and experiences. and this salad is a bowl of health and happiness.

• 1 medium zucchini

• 2 cloves garlic, chopped

• 1 summer squash

• 1 teaspoon raw honey

• 1 ear corn, kernels removed

• juice and rind of one lemon

• 1 large tomato, diced

• sprinkle of basil

• 1/4 cup sliced or chopped almonds,

• grated ginger

lightly toasted • 3 Tablespoons olive oil

• grated turmeric • salt and pepper to taste

• 2 Tablespoons rice wine vinegar

Slice zucchini and summer squash lengthwise in long strips, as thin as possible, using either a mandoline, a very sharp chef knife, or a vegetable peeler. Sprinkle with salt to remove moisture and let sit for 30 minutes, then drain, pat dry with paper towels, and place in bowl. Remove kernels from corn, and if desired, toast almonds in oven on 350 for about 8 minutes until lightly browned, and set both aside. Toss zucchini and squash ribbons with olive oil, rice vinegar and juice and rind of one lemon. Let sit for about ten minutes and then top with diced tomatoes, corn, garlic, grated ginger and turmeric root. Drizzle with raw honey, a touch more olive oil, and sprinkle with basil and salt and pepper, to taste. This recipe makes six servings but you may want to double it because most people I know cannot stop eating it!

Oxygen is your brain’s superpower. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is known to accelerate recovery from injury and disease for patients of all ages. Today, the team at Aviv Clinics in central Florida and Dubai in the UAE, use hyperbaric oxygen to revitalize your brain and reverse the aging process. One step through Aviv’s doors and you’ll realize it is unlike any other medical clinic in the world.

WHAT KIND OF DIFFERENCE DOES THE AVIV MEDICAL PROGRAM MAKE IN THE LIVES OF ITS PATIENTS? I had the opportunity to experience Aviv Clinics recently and there are more testimonials from happy patients than we have room to share. While I was there, NFL players, stroke survivors and concussion patients were among the many being treated alongside clients who simply want to have a better aging experience.

FRECK VREELAND - BON VIVANT

SON OF DIANA VREELAND, THE FAMOUS EDITOR-IN-CHIEF OF VOGUE, SPY AND DIPLOMAT By Colleen Guilfoile Richmond

Freck is a career diplomat, ambassador to Morocco, spy and son to the famous fashion editor, Diana Vreeland. He is now sharing his remarkably colorful life on social media in an upcoming memoir. I had the opportunity to speak with Freck and learn about his amazing life. He is an inspirational person with a life well lived.

WHAT WAS THE CATALYST THAT WAS THE DECIDING REASON TO PUBLISH YOUR MEMOIR NOW? I had started writing my memoirs back in the nineties, but I guess I was still so imbibed with both diplomacy and CIA, that I never managed to get myself on the page. It was just a series of anecdotes, about 65 pages long. A few years ago, my wife Sandra read it and suggested we work on the manuscript together to fill it out. She took the 65 pages and in between the lines in blue, filled out everything I had told her over the years, in her own words first, and littered with questions. I then sat down and rewrote the whole story. My son Alexander found me an editor, Elizabeth Smith, who managed to pull the whole life story together. After a few other edits by my son Nicky, myself and Sandra, the book now stands at a whopping 400 pages. Still a bit long, but there you go. I had a long life!

WHAT ARE YOUR EARLY MEMORIES OF YOUR MOTHER AND WHAT DID SHE PERSONALLY INSTILL IN YOU? She was very warm and sweet, and very patient with my brother Tim and I. But she lived for my father, who was the love of her life. I vividly remember her taking rumba dancing lessons in our living room at 17 Hanover Terrace in London, where I

66

www. LuxLifestyle-magazine.com

spent my first few years. I guess that must have been my earliest memory of her.

GROWING UP WITH DIANA VREELAND AS A MOTHER, WHAT IMPACT ON YOU DID THIS MAKE? Don’t forget, we didn’t really grow up with our mother, Tim and I each had a nanny, and mom was sort of the beautifully dressed up figure waltzing in and out of our lives. She wasn’t yet famous at all when we grew up, so we just thought of her as ‘mom’: loving, perfectionist, openminded. She was adamant we grew up being worldly, and had the map of the world put on the wall of our room, so we learned from very early on that boundaries did not really matter. Everything and everybody was unconditionally accepted, especially when they had flair, humor and taste. Even bad taste.

WHAT WAS THE ROLE YOUR FATHER PLAYED? My father was very close to us young boys, and we relished when he came into our room at night and did a little tap dance for us. Dressed to the nines, and handsome as he was, he was a loving father and I am so sorry he died in his sixties. I would have loved to have spent more time with him.

Ambassador to Morocco, and friend to President John F Kennedy, Robert F Kennedy and George H.W. Bush. Surrounded by fame, Freck consorted with Presidents, entertained celebrities and played polo with royalty. Counterpart to this lifestyle Freck had a successful 35-year career as a “CIA Officer” working under diplomatic cover. Freck was called upon to escort the then First Lady, Jacqueline Kennedy, around the city of Marrakesh.

CAN YOU SHARE SOMETHING ABOUT THIS TIME, WITH JACKIE? I had just arrived at the Embassy in Rabat in 1963, when my Ambassador phoned me to say I was ordered to drive down to Marrakech, to be of assistance to our friend Jackie and her sister Lee. I packed my little family in our car, and drove to the wonderful La Mamounia Hotel, where we spent a few days. My wife Betty and the boys enjoyed the Hotel, while I accompanied the first lady and her sister to official outings. It was my first introduction to Moroccan high society, and I became friends with many members of the Royal Family and all their entourage, especially Prince Moulay Abdallah, the brother of King Hassan II, who invited me to play on the Royal Polo team. These friends were of vital important when I came back as Ambassador in the early nineties. Since I knew everybody of importance, I hit the ground running, and managed to do an enormous amount of work during my Ambassadorship.

CAN YOU SHARE A MEMORY OR TWO ABOUT BEING A CIA OFFICER? Well, first off, I never killed anybody, and secondly, was never in real danger. The people from behind the Iron curtain all knew I was CIA, and talked to me willingly. I loved the job and firmly believed I was helping my country to combat communism. I was proud to work for an institution which was in those days considered heroic. I would get a call in the middle of the night and would make my way to a garage where a Mercedes was waiting for me, drive to another garage, change the license plates of another car, and make my way to a ‘safe house’ to meet with an informer. I would then carefully type up a report of everything he had told me, and send it of by secret cable to headquarters in the US. Once after one of these nightly outings, I noticed in my haste I had screwed on the license plate upside down! Thankfully I hadn’t been stopped. A career diplomat Freck rose to become Ambassador to Morocco nominated by George H.W. Bush.

CAN YOU SHARE A STORY OR TWO WHILE BEING AMBASSADOR AND ABOUT GEORGE H.W. BUSH. I had an excellent relationship with King Hassan II, I respected him, but I was determined to talk about democracy and human rights in every formal speech I made. One day he took me aside and said: “Vreeland, what are you always going on about with this democracy, look at the mess in your own country, do you want us to become like you!?” I was put on the spot and suddenly remembered a saying from Sir Winston Churchill, whom I knew the King admired greatly. I replied: “Your Majesty, Churchill always said that democracy was very, very bad, but that all the other systems were much worse!” I don’t remember if he actually laughed, but he accepted it. Everything I asked of him was eventually agreed upon, even, just as I was leaving, having the elections supervised by a third party, which was unheard of before. And my proudest achievement is having the King close the dreaded prison of Tazmamart, which I describe in my memoir. George H.W. Bush was a friend, a man I admired tremendously for his moral values and as a human being. He worked hard at trying to solve International problems, but unfortunate-

ly did not concentrate enough on domestic matters. I stayed in touch with him and his lovely wife Barbara until he passed away.

YOU HAVE TWO INCREDIBLY INTERESTING AND BEAUTIFUL SONS; CAN YOU SHARE A TIDBIT OR TWO ON YOUR FAMILY? Yes, both my sons are wonderful, and I’m proud to say, each one has made something special of their lives, and is happy about the path they have chosen. I am sorry to have been often absent when they were growing up, but I feel very close to them both. We have a loving relationship and try to see each other as often as we can. Nicky was a difficult child, always set on doing things his way, which wasn’t necessarily my or his mother’s way. He has chosen to become a Tibetan Buddhist monk, and was made an abbot of his Monastery, Rato, in a Tibetan settlement in India. He is a delight to be with and I admire him very much. Alexander was an easy child, never complaining, always happy, and after a very successful career in the fashion industry, has now semi-retired to his beautiful estate on Long Island, and is very active and supportive of his four children and three grandchildren. He calls me twice a week and never lets more than a few months go by without coming to visit me, wherever I find myself in the world, for which I’m very grateful. I respect both my sons very much, and am lucky to have such a wonderful close family.

I. I’ll take care of you if you take care of me.’” Kelpie’s name, like Carleton’s, derives from Scottish roots and means a shape-changing aquatic spirit—a title the captain felt perfectly represented the yacht’s versatility. “This ultra-fast, gentlemen’s racing schooner with all her trophies was about to become a ladies’ yacht, hosting decadent luncheons and evening soirees for an elite Hamptons clientele,” Car-leton says. “Her exterior has a very feminine look— sleek, sexy lines, maintaining a dainty appearance even with her giant rig.” As for any criticism of Kelpie’s reimagined use? The captain’s stance is unwavering. “She’s one of the fastest schooners in the world; it’s been said among other sailors that I’m using a thoroughbred to give pony rides,” Carleton says. “But I didn’t bring Kelpie here to win any races—I brought her here to give folks an exceptional experience. If I could close my eyes and imagine the perfect day, the most heavenly environment, it would be the Kelpie experience.” photos by @miaisabellaphotography

While the deck plays off the boat’s sleek exterior, with an abundance of white—oversized linen pillows, crochet hammocks and vintage tablecloths—the decor below pays homage to the yacht’s 1928 origins. Warm, high-gloss black walnut and English racing green leather settees fill the space, as well as Carleton’s own leather-bound books and crystal decanters of Scottish scotches. The captain’s touches are woven throughout the space, making the atmosphere not only eclectic, but also deeply personal. Carleton discovered Kelpie in 2018 during her search for a white schooner. The boat was located in the Mediterranean, and while the distance felt daunting, Carleton felt a magnetic pull.

AUTHENTIC PHUKET By Adam Jacot de Boinod For once the brochure doesn’t lie! Nor do the pictures need airbrushing. There are, it’s true, a host of luxury hotels across the island but I wanted to experience those that offered a special authenticity. Those that blended in with their surroundings. Hotels with their own story and not merely offering jungle living with Wifi. Could, thirty years on, the appeal still be there on an island steeped in mass tourism? Not all of Phuket is now attractive. Garish boards and gaudy buildings, long traffic queues and party-seeking tourists have left their mark. But emerging out of the jungled landscape are some wonderful places to stay.

Set in a mature coconut plantation and meaning “place of peace’ was my last stop, the classy Amanpuri hotel. (www.aman.com/resorts/amanpuri). It’s minimal and it’s luxury in an expansive sphere. Decked in the woods makha, which is golden brown with dark veins, and teak that was considered a ‘royal’ tree by the kings of Thailand and Burma. The design embraces authentically the Thai tradition and is timeless and serene with intelligent spacing between the restaurants and swimming pool. The sloping location is enhanced with cascading stairs and raised steps that took me down from the rooms to the lobby. Even more magnificently, straight out of a stage setting from Aida, it took me down again from the pool to the private beach. The airy poolside restaurants offer some real little delights such as ginger and passion fruit stirred with a spring onion as a mixer. The spring rolls come with salmon, fish roe, grapefruit and chilli sauce. Then there’s the tea-time mini-cakes. All the food varies in its spicy intensity.

This spa is wonderfully located in a secluded coconut grove complete with water features and outside pavilions (‘salas’) comprising aromatic varnished teak, for yoga, meditation and pilates. The vegetation and bird-life clings and sings in an attractive fashion beside the delightful features and therapy rooms. It’s a hillside retreat that uses its own specially prepared, pure natural products. It is dedicated to nourishing in unison the body and soul. I spent a highly beneficial hour here. I must return. Whenever but soon!

ART & CULTURE HOW DO YOU DESCRIBE YOURSELF AS AN ARTIST? I’m classically trained as an artist and illustrator but I also bring a fair bit of my commerce degree and marketing background into my art as well. I think a lot about not only what ful-

IS THERE A PARTICULAR

fills me creatively in my artwork, but also what is going to resonate with my audience and broader commercial opportunities. I aim to transport and inspire with my art but also to help change the perception of a destination with clever and conceptual elements integrated too. In general, my style is often described as whimsical, colorful, fashion-meets-travel wanderlust.

WHAT INSPIRES YOUR WORK MOST? Travel is without a shadow of doubt, the lifeblood of my creative process! Touching down in a new country, being outside my comfort zone, absorbing the uniqueness of a destination, from the climate to the lifestyle, all stand to inform my works of art. I also feel really compelled to show a destination in a way that hasn’t necessarily been done before.

DESTINATION OR TWO THAT IS A FAVORITE TO PAINT? I love painting destinations with a ton of color, pattern, texture, and character. That really makes my creative heart sing. My top three places would definitely be Marrakesh, Paris, and Cartagena!

www.LuxLifestyle-magazine.com

109

YOU HAVE WORKED WITH SO MANY PRESTIGE BRANDS. SHARE A FEW RECENT COLLABORATIONS? I’ve had phenomenal opportunities with my career that I’m so grateful for. A few that really stand out to me would be: Creating the new artwork to adorn the Ritz-Carlton wine labels globally which involved a cross California campaign tour and launch party just outside Sonoma. I also worked with the leading British luxury skincare brand ELEMIS to illustrate and design their Luxury Traveller Collection bags which sold out shortly

after launch. Most recently I’ve done a lot of illustrated campaign work for Marriott Bonvoy which has turned into animated video adverts. That project led to me interviewing one of their brand partners, former NBA player Grant Hill, and presenting him with a series of hand-painted basketballs. I have always and continue to believe that the sky’s the limit when it comes to dream partnerships!

110

www. LuxLifestyle-magazine.com

ARE THERE ANY DESTINATIONS YOU HAVE YET TO PAINT THAT ARE ON YOUR BUCKET LIST? There are still so many destinations I’m longing to get to and put brush to paper over, especially after the last two years! For starters, I’d say Peru. I was actually on my way to Lima from Santiago, Chile when the pandemic hit March 15th, 2020 so I’d definitely like to see that trip through. Also, longing to do a proper Bali trip. I only transferred through there on my way to Lombok, Indonesia but I can remember the technicolor sunsets so vividly.

HOW HAS INSTAGRAM AFFECTED YOUR CAREER? Instagram has been absolutely instrumental in my career and continues to be my main business driver. I started using it quite intentionally around summer 2014. I was sharing a lot of my illustration process and travel inspiration but also doing a fair bit of painting prominent fashion figures and designer collections. They often reposted my artwork which helped me to really cultivate a following. By August 2014 I had enough of an audience and a client base that I was able to quit my corporate design job and go full speed with my brand Travel Write Draw. Shortly thereafter, Instagram featured me as a “Suggested User” which meant that every new account who signed up to the app was recommended to follow me. My account erupted with 100,000 new followers in a couple of weeks. Instagram in general marked the renaissance revival of fashion illustration as a profession. The hand drawn touch in a photo dominant app really stood out. Also, being featured on “Top Fashion Illustrators to Follow” lists in top publications like Vanity Fair, Harper’s Bazaar, and ELLE, drove a lot of attention to my work.

WHAT ADVISE CAN YOU SHARE WITH OTHERS ON THE JOURNEY TO SUCCESS? We are living in a time now where just about everyone has a presence on social media. The saturation point is high. The best thing you can do is to double down on your authenticity and what makes you “you”. People want to work with people they connect and identify with. You aren’t going to stand out by being a second rate version of someone else. Be uniquely you

WHERE WILL WE FIND YOU THIS SUMMER? Painting at the LUX LIFESTYLE HOT LIST party in the Hamptons in July - I’m so excited that you have named me the Hottest Illustrator of 2022! Then I’ll be off to London through August, and pack in a couple weekend trips to the Mediterranean in between. Hope you will follow my adventures @travelwritedraw.

through and through. Lastly, be persistent. It could take years to become a seemingly overnight success. Think about the long game. Dream big and start small. Little by little it will all come together.

HAUTE HABITAT

DESIGN DYNAMIC By Katelyn Rutt Photography by Michael Blevins

With an abundance of home-inspired TikTok videos, dreamy magazines spreads and TV shows, beautiful spaces are a dime a dozen—perhaps now more than ever. So what sets design work apart in a seemingly-saturated market? Enter: Layton Campbell of JLayton Interiors and Myron Greer of Myron Greer Garden Design. It’s undeniable that both designers are incredibly versatile with their range and creativity, but it’s their unique dynamic—humor, passion and out-of-the-box thinking—that really brings something special to the scene. Their individual and combined business ethos: Surpassing expectations, an element that has established the duo as some of the most sought after designers on the East Coast. Photo by Laura Sumrak.

We met and became friends years ago,” Campbell says. “I had always admired Myron’s work and extensive knowledge in the realm of garden and landscape design. We both have such passion for our professions and I believe that is why we work so well together. Plus, he’s hysterically funny and we always have a good time.” Greer recalls meeting Campbell and immediately hitting it off. The pair talked about their crafts and the idea of being “somewhat young” and green entrepreneurs. “My husband and I started following his work and I really admired his incredible talent of showcasing his own style in his design, instead of creating copies of others’ work,” Greer says. “He has a wonderful eye for color and texture, and thinks spaciously and outside the box.”

ANNE BURESH INTERIOR DESIGN By Katelyn Rutt

Anne Buresh, owner of the award-winning, full-service interior design firm, tackles a range of new builds and large-scale renovations with both insight and curiosity. Blending influences from office locations in Charlotte and Jackson Hole, the firm merges the diversity of the two regions for an unmistakable design aesthetic. Buresh’s newest collaborative project at the Western Design Conference captures the vast, grounding nature of the West.

127

HAUTE HABITAT

“My initial inspiration for the room began with the scenic hand-painted wallpaper of delicate, airy trees created by Colette Cosentino in partnership with Schumacher,” Buresh says. “The design holds significance because not only is it a nod to my southern heritage but it also makes me feel the impact of Jackson among the vastness of the environment and its grounding sensation.” Buresh notes that the team’s largest challenge was covering the space’s 10-foot wall with the custom wallpaper.

128

www. LuxLifestyle-magazine.com

HAUTE HABITAT “It is crucial to how it makes you feel in the room,” Buresh says. “The scale encourages guests to relax, escape and take root in the beauty of the outdoors.” As a contrast to the nature-centric decor, Buresh chose to highlight the wall area with two letters, handwritten and framed. Paired with a set of French Louis XVI antique chairs from Paris, the space possesses natural elegance, an ode to Parisian style and culture. Buresh adds that the large black and white photo, highlighted above the sofa, is a special collaboration with Anne Neilson Fine Art in Charlotte— and a celebration of world travel. “The relationships I have formed working from the East Coast to Jackson have opened my eyes to many new perspectives that I incorporate into my designs,” Buresh says. “I design for a well-traveled life that celebrates a global perspective, community and the outdoors.” However, with a strong background in southern elegance, Buresh notes that she wanted to pioneer a new look and feel for this specific project that showcased the western environment in a fresh light. “I love to uncover inspiring ways to highlight what brings a client joy, such as fine art, antiques and travel,” Buresh says. “I listen closely and put together a vision based on aesthetics, lifestyle and personal passions.” Buresh’s mission is to tie each of those elements together to produce a unified space that tells a story and evokes emotion from clients who see their life experiences expressed through the beauty of design. The designer often accomplishes this through the use of soft colors, inviting layouts and travel items that juxtapose sophistication with comfort and familiarity. “Your home should be a space where people feel comfortable and relaxed,” Buresh says. “Where you can kick your feet up, enjoy each other’s company and share a toast to the joy of life. I want to create serenity that is calming and fulfilling for our clients.” www.LuxLifestyle-magazine.com
