Wow! Our premier issue of LUX WELLINGTON dropped in February, amid the winter season in South Florida with great fanfare and excitement.

With gratitude to The Parallèlle Group, our launch party at the National Polo Center’s 7th Chukker brought out over 100 of the best of the community for an incredible evening, sitting atop the 432,000 sq ft US Polo Association Field Number One.

The reception of our winter issue has been overwhelming, with many commenting that LUX WELLINGTON is “just what we needed” … “beautifully laid out” … “very well written” and “has quality you feel the moment you touch it!”

South Florida has been swarmed with visitors, competitors, and thousands of new full-time residents, which made it the perfect time to launch LUX WELLINGTON and we could not be more pleased to help showcase where we live and enjoy life. And we’re just getting started.

As we enter summer, we reach across the states to a place very

familiar to our readers: Aspen, where we tell the story of the most sensational cosmopolitan western themed store in America: Kemo Sabe. We also highlight travel, drool over restored classics, get updated on Watches and Wonders ’24, find out what a premium cigar really is, enjoy a bespoke delivery of Louis Vuitton’s newest and most sought-after timepiece in their NY Flagship, learn about colored diamonds from a local expert, explore the benefits of cold plunge therapy and sip some of Hemmingway’s favorite cocktails.

Jumping into the saddle, we had the pleasure of corralling one of the most sought after and beautiful horsewoman in the business, Kerstie Allen, for a retrospect of her life in the saddle and on movie sets. There is nobody that enjoys being around horses more than Kerstie and we are so lucky to have her as part of this issue. Then, we meet Pedro Falabella, a 33 yr old polo player establishing his Argentine talents in Wellington and The Hamptons.

Take a look through the lense of well-known equestrian photographer Shelli Bradenbach as she takes us on her journey from rider to Wall St, and from Africa to the local barns.

PAPA HEMINGWAY, GLOBETROTTING BOOZER

TALL TALES AND TALL TIPPLES:

It is a truth universally acknowledged that Ernest Hemingway was every bit as well known for his imbibing as for his writing—so much so that in art imitating life moment Papa appeared in a 1952 Ballantine Ale advert that featured his penned prose extolling the virtues of beer brewer’s suds. And like fellow literary lion Ian Fleming of 007 fame, Hemingway often wrote original cocktail recipes into his prose (see Nos. 2 and 5 on our list below).

So renowned for his Lost Generation Parisian moveable-feast meanderings and carousing was he, in fact, that the saloon at Hôtel Ritz Paris—which the

author-hunter-fisherman claimed to have “liberated” from the Germans—is named the Hemingway Bar. (The “liberation,” on August 25, 1944—the day the Nazi occupiers surrendered the French capital—is the stuff of legend. As the story goes, Hemingway, backed by a group of Resistance fighters, burst into the hotel and announced he had come to personally liberate it and its bar, which had been requisitioned by the Nazis in June 1940. Upon entering the fabled establishment, Papa was informed by the hotel’s managing director, Claude Auzello, that the Germans had fled well before his arrival. Nonplussed, Hemingway remained and is supposed to have run up a tab for 51 martinis—for him and his men, thank you, and not just himself).

Bellini

- 2 oz. white peach puree

- 6 oz. chilled Prosecco

Created in 1948 at Harry’s Bar in Venice (by Giuseppe Cipriani, who had opened his barroom doors 17 years prior), this sweet and viscous concoction was Hemingway’s cocktail of choice when he found himself in the Bride of the Sea. It’s now served at all Cipriani establishments worldwide—and sold by the bottle in gourmet markets.

To get a grasp on the entirety of Hemingway’s drinking habits and related anecdotes, I highly recommend Philip Greene’s To Have and Have Another: A Hemingway Cocktail Companion. Hemingway “thought globally . . . drank locally,” Green wryly observes. Given the haunts he frequented in his habitual ports of call—El Floridita in Havana, Harry’s Bar in Venice, Sloppy Joe’s in Key West—

that makes good sound sense. To make do until you pick up Greene’s book, here are five favored Hemingway inebriants. (Papa didn’t much partake of cigars; indeed, there’s only one known photograph of him lighting up. That helps explain why none of these pair particularly well with a puro—other than his preferred martini preparation. A cigar and a martini, as classic as it gets).

Hemingway Martini

- 1 ¾ oz. London dry gin (Hemingway liked Gordon’s)

- 1 teaspoon dry vermouth

- Cocktail onion, frozen

- Served in frozen martini glass or coupe

Everyone likes his martini prepared just so. While it is said Hemingway liked vermouth, he didn’t care for it in his martinis. You can, therefore, call his signature recipe “extra-dry,” with just a teaspoon—barely enough for a rinse—of the botanical-infused fortified wine. (Someone (I can’t remember who) said he liked his martinis so dry that he would put his mouth down right over the glass and whisper the word “vermouth” during its preparation).

Hemingway Champagne (a.k.a. Death in the Afternoon)

- 1 ½ oz. (1 jigger) absinthe

- 4 ½ oz. chilled Champagne

- ½ oz. simple syrup (optional)

Published in 1932, the nonfiction book Death in the Afternoon offers in exacting detail the recipe for this now-classic cocktail. It reads: “Pour one jigger absinthe into a Champagne glass. Add iced Champagne until it attains the proper opalescent milkiness. Drink three to five of these slowly.”

Green Isaac’s Special

- 2 oz. London dry gin

- 4 oz. unsweetened coconut water (not milk)

- 1 oz. lime juice, freshly squeezed

- 2 to 4 dashes Angostura bitters

The Green Isaac’s Special first appears in Hemingway’s first posthumously published novel, Islands in the Stream (1970). He wrote: “Where Thomas Hudson lay on the mattress his head was in the shade cast by the platform at the forward end of the flying bridge where the controls were and when Eddy came aft with the tall cold drink made of gin, lime juice, green coconut water and chipped ice with just enough Angostura bitters to give it a rusty, rose color, he held the drink in the shadow so the ice would not melt while he looked out over the sea.”

Hemingway Special Daiquiri (a.k.a.

- 2 oz. white rum

- ½ oz. maraschino liqueur

- ¾ oz. lime juice, freshly squeezed

Created by Constantino Ribalaigua Vert, the legendary bartender at El Floridita. Hemingway did not opt for the added sugar, but most do as it’s rather tart without.

One of the defining characteristics of fancy-colored diamonds is their rarity. Unlike their colorless counterparts, which are relatively abundant in comparison, colored diamonds are exceptional occurrences in nature. Peters likened them to “mistakes” in nature, anomalies that arise from specific conditions like the presence of nitrogen, boron, or radiation during the diamond’s formation.

Among the most popular fancy-colored diamonds in today’s market are pink and blue diamonds. Their allure lies not only in their scarcity but also in their captivating beauty. Due to their limited supply and high demand, pink and blue diamonds command premium prices, making them prized possessions for collectors and investors alike.

Color intensity also plays a role in determining the value and rarity of fancy-colored diamonds. Peters emphasized that while any colored diamond is rare, those with intense saturation are even more so. The vividness and richness of color, graded on a scale from “fancy light” to “fancy vivid,” can significantly influence a diamond’s desirability and price. For instance, a vivid pink or blue diamond may command a much higher price than one with a lighter hue.

In recent years, the prices of Fancy Colored Diamonds (FCDs) have skyrocketed, and it’s all because of their astonishing rarity. Out of 10,000 mined diamonds, only one carat turns out to be a colorful gem, and it’s even rarer to find one with that intense, vibrant hue we all love. Investors have caught onto this hidden gem, especially when you consider that pink diamonds have shot up by a staggering 180%, with blue and yellow not far behind at 70% and 90%.

In our conversation, Peters shared insights into some of the most renowned fancy-colored diamonds in history. Among them is the Dresden Green, the world’s largest green diamond, revered for its exceptional color and rarity. Discovered in 1722 by a British merchant, The Dresden Green was initially offered to King George but ended up in the Royal Court of Saxony. It became a symbol of the Golden Fleece. Notices in a London newspaper listed it for a value equivalent to $7 million or four tons of gold. Frederick the Great of Prussia adorned his hat with it, adding diamonds. It’s been displayed in the Dresden Green Vault for nearly 300 years, with interruptions including Soviet capture during WWII. It briefly visited the United States alongside the Hope Diamond but always returned to Dresden.

Another iconic gem is the Hope Diamond, a legendary blue diamond housed at the Smithsonian Institution, which continues to captivate audiences with its deep azure hue and storied past. “The Hope Diamond is perhaps one of the most famous colored diamonds,” Peters notes. “Its deep blue hue and storied past have made it an iconic symbol of luxury.” The Hope Diamond, famous for its size and color, carries a scandalous 350-year history akin to a thriller. This 45.52-carat blue diamond changed hands numerous times, was stolen, and vanished for decades before resurfacing. Legend suggests it was plucked from a Hindu statue’s eye, perhaps marking the start of its curse. Notable owners like Marie Antoinette and Louis XIV met tragic ends. Evalyn Walsh McLean, after acquiring it, suffered many family tragedies. After her death, it was sold to Harry Winston, who famously mailed it to the Smithsonian for $2.44 postage. Now safely housed in the Smithsonian, it remains a popular attraction without causing harm.

Recently, Sotheby’s auction house in Hong Kong witnessed history as a flawless 59.60-carat Pink Diamond, dubbed the “Pink Star,” was acquired by the Hong Kong-based jewelry company Chow Tai Fook for a staggering $71.2 million. This groundbreaking sale marks the first instance in diamond auction history of such a monumental transaction. Previously, the 14.62-carat “Oppenheimer Blue” held the record, fetching $57.5 million. Fancy-colored diamonds like these are not only rare and priceless but also recession-resistant, explaining the enduring fascination with them.

Investing in fancy-colored diamonds offers a distinctive opportunity in the realm of alternative investments. Unlike conventional options like stocks or real estate, these gems are often traded privately, which can limit visibility into market trends. Adding to their allure is the fact that a significant portion of fancy-colored diamonds originates from Rio Tinto’s now-closed Argyle mine. With the closure of this major source, the already limited supply of these gems becomes even scarcer, enhancing their intrinsic value. This rarity, coupled with the enduring appeal of colored diamonds, positions them as a captivating investment choice for those looking to diversify their portfolios and potentially reap significant returns over time.

Genatios continues, “It takes around nine months to restore a car. The first thing we do is go through the car and check everything before we take it apart. Then, we take it completely apart, every nut and bolt out of the car. After that, the car goes to sandblasting and chemical treatment to take off all the paint it has. It’s a full makeover. Then we start the bodywork; very few times, we have to do metalwork. We paint the car in the original factory brand, which is glossy. We provide a lifetime warranty on the paint if we do the complete process. Everything, from the engine to the components, is rebuilt from scratch.”

The restoration journey itself is a labor of love, spanning months of work. From disassembly to sandblasting and chemical treatments, every step is executed with precision. The bodywork is a delicate process, often requiring metalwork to restore the car to its original glory.

CIGAR CHRONICLES

When the temperatures start to pull out of the winter chill, over 10,000 owners, blenders, growers, and marketing executives of the Cigar industry head to Las Vegas for the Premium Cigar Association (PCA) convention and marketplace. Here, you find micro brands all the way up to industry behemoths displaying and smoking their latest creations for the year ahead.

This show is not for the majority of the over 1,000 different cigar brands out there but rather includes just a select group who make, distribute, or sell cigars with a retail price of +-$10.00 and above, with a large following in the $15-20.00 per cigar range.

The Cigar business has grown to over $50B in annual revenue, and reports suggest that it will increase to over $80B by 2029. Things are smoking hot in the cigar business!

At PCA’24, there were a variety of new “blends” created and showcased. Some of the favorites were:

PERDOMO

Considered one of the larger independently owned brands with most of the production coming from Nicaragua and with over 20 different blends and/or sizes in its popular line, Perdomo released a 30th Anniversary Edition to just 75 retailers worldwide. Nick Perdomo describes the blend as his “McCallum” of cigars, “soft, smooth and luxurious” and using

tobacco aged since 2006. If you are new to the enjoyment of a fine cigar, start first with Perdomo; you will never be disappointed.

DUNBARTON

The incomparable Steve Saka, known as a true master blender, Steve continues to release high end, exceptional products year after year. This year, Dunbarton decided to do small releases that, in some ways, “fix” releases from the past that he thought could be improved. By adding a rubusto size in his blends he also added an Aromatic 22 to the latest lineup, a stick that was previously reserved for holiday release only. Most importantly, the Brule Blue Unicorn is likely the most coveted. Very limited in its availability and priced at $100.00 per, it is made to be for “truly special occasions,” thus the name “UNICORN.”

ESPINOSA

A huge maker of several blends and brands, the most talked about this year is the increased product line from Celebrity Chef Guy Fieri. Humorously named The Knuckle Sandwich, Fieri’s passion for a good smoke is reflected in this new release, which comes in sizes and blends such as Chef Special, Maduro, Habano, Connecticut, and ring sizes that are BIG and getting bigger. Make no mistake, these are serious cigars. Think of them as prime cuts.

A LEGENDARY PARTNERSHIP

They say Legends are Forever, so why not be friends? That’s what Carlos Fuente and José Padron did to create the FUENTE Y PADRÓN blend, available sometime in 2024. A 40 cigar collection that surely will become a collector’s smoke, they are housed in a white lacquer presentation box. The sons of each brand decided to honor their fathers as one with this unique blend of each other’s crops. Amazing.

JC NEWMAN

A Tampa-based company that produces millions of cigars, has released a Leroy Neiman Limited Edition. Renewing its long partnership with the famous artist, the boxes and cigar wrappers evoke the artist’s use of color and abstract artwork. The 7x50 Churchill size is a piece of art you will love to smoke.

DREW ESTATES

A well-known maker and likely the most popular at the show, Drew Estates partnered up with Metallica and their Blackened Whisky line to create the Blackened Series cigar. Bold, full of layers of flavor, and loud!

MONTECRISTO

Who doesn’t know of this famous brand? Steep in tradition, referred to in movies and history, Montecristo released its 1935 Anniversary ‘Edicíon’ that will set you back a smoking $150 per light, but remember, this is the Premium Cigar trade show!

PADRON

Likely one of the most famous high-end makers, Padron celebrated its 60th anniversary with a 48x56x6.5 tapered figuardo shape and an aged blend coveted by those who know. Limited availability and production but highly anticipated, Padron only makes Premium cigars that run as much as $45 each.

MY FATHER’S CIGARS

Classy, well-known, and always enjoyed, My Father’s Cigars creates some of the most well-known blends in the industry. New this year is a San Andreas full-bodied cigar. It has more flavor with a bigger, bolder taste and this year, larger ring sizes. Their most anticipated release is the Corona and Rubusto “True Puro” (all Nicaraguan tobacco), which was previously limited to just 1,000 boxes.

FERIO TEGO

A favorite among smokers around the USA, it’s hard to determine Ferio Tego’s popularity from its product or its founder, Michael Herklots. Herklots is the percussionist of the premium cigar world…the guy who keeps the beat going with his enthusiasm and passion for the cigar industry. This year, Herklots released Suma in July and has furthered that pace with a 2024 release of the Eleganté Generoso this fall. Michael has only had success since launching his company a few years ago.

FOUNDATION CIGARS

A broad manufacturer of fine cigars, the Foundation always brings quality to the ashtray. This year, the Aksum line comes in both a Claro (light) and Maduro Connecticut broadleaf wrapper with Nicaraguan filler. Smooth yet spicy, it has a perfect blend from start to finish.

ROCKY PATEL

Rocky is synonymous with the word’ cigar.’ One of the largest tobacconists in the industry, Rocky Patel always brings it at PCA. At the top end is the Gold Label, a meaty smoke that comes across as medium in strength. You would think Gold Label means a high price, but Rocky kept it tight with this offering in the $9.50-13.00 range, depending on size.

S.J. DUPONT

The famous French accessories maker Dupont makes works of art for the cigar smoker. With lighters that cost as high as $2,000, Dupont brings its skill as a pen and leather maker to all its smoking accessories. Ashtrays, cutters, lighters, and even cigar “holders” S.J. Dupont rounds out the enjoyment of any fine cigar.

Harold Scrabbers is a well-known cigar enthusiast, fashionista, and lover of Italian food. Elusive to many and rarely in public view, Harry’s cigar reviews are legendary and date back to the early 1980s while living in Long Branch, NY.

WHAT ARE THE MENSWEAR STYLE TRENDS YOU’RE

SEEING

THIS SEASON?

“There are four important categories of what’s happening for summer: color, fit, clothing, and fabric. It’s all about color

in Florida, so at John Craig stores we’re doing sport coats in bright pink, lavender, teal, and aqua. Everything is designed around comfort and stretch. With the fabric category, we’re focusing on easy-care garments like linen mixed with silk and wool materials that are beautiful with exciting color offerings.

WHAT ARE THE KEY FABRICS AND COLORS IN YOUR SUMMER COLLECTION?

“The last thing you need in Florida is anything heavy or drab. If you go into our stores now, you’ll find beautiful linens in solids and prints, slub linen, and knit fabric that presents like a dress shirt. The first item we sold out of this season was a Canali linen windowpane sport coat in pink. The biggest seller we have from a couple of price points is a beautiful electric blue. I like to dab in natural colors too, like off-white, stone, and neutral plaids that match everything.”

WHEN IT COMES TO SUMMER ACCESSORIES, WHAT DO YOU OFFER?

“You’d be hard-pressed to find a men’s store that does more in belts than what we do. We offer custom belts from a Tennessee brand called LEN Lifestyle. They range from normal suede and leather to magnificent alligator, crocodile, ostrich, and colors like lavender and pink. Another beautiful option is Anderson out of Italy or W. Kleinberg with their stretch belts that are great for golf or casual wear. John Craig also features colorful socks in patterns.”

WHAT’S SO UNIQUE ABOUT YOUR “MADE TO MEASURE” OFFERING?

“Many of our clients need or prefer to have something made especially for them. Seeing the opportunity some nine years ago, I hired Tanweer Jamal as our director of clothing for Made to Measure. Our who’s who includes Kiton, Sartorio Napoli, Castangia, Canali, and our own John Craig Reserve. Fabrics come from the greatest mills including Lora Piana, REDA, and Dormeuil to name a few. The offering includes suits, sport coats, tuxexdos and trousers. The customization includes choices of buttons, monogramming and special linings.”

WHAT IS THE JOHN CRAIG METHODOLOGY FOR BUILDING A COHESIVE SHOPPING EXPERIENCE?

“If you enter one of our stores, you will find that it is divided into three parts. The front area features sport coats, the second displays furnishings, and the third offers lifestyle sportswear. I have always liked the idea that a store works from front to back; in fabric and color. For example, the first thing you might see this season is a lavender sport coat. As you progress into the store, you’ll discover matching shirts, furnishings, and trousers. It’s just easy.”

YOUR MERCHANDISING APPROACH IS VERY UNIQUE; COULD YOU ELABORATE?

“Inside a John Craig store, the knits have paper folds and everything is perfectly lined. We have sales associates in every store; these are not salespeople, but the people who help our salespeople. They do nothing but fold and restore displays after a sale. I’m critical and my team knows what I expect. People aren’t used to seeing stores so well kept, and it’s a key element of what makes the John Craig experience so exceptional.”

WOULD YOU TELL US ABOUT YOUR LIFESTYLE MAGAZINE?

“The single best advertising we do is our lifestyle magazine, John Craig. This is put together by my daughter, Blair DeLongy-Sanchez, and Alan Chambers. Our producers, Wainscot Media, just won the prestigious ‘Service Industry Award’ for our spring 2023 magazine and Gold for best publication.”

WHAT’S SO SPECIAL ABOUT THE JOHN CRAIG TEAM?

“I was named ‘Merchant of the Year’ for men’s specialty stores at the MR Awards last summer. I talked about my people for most of my speech; everything we are able to do here is because of these dedicated professionals. They say that customers first come in for clothes and return for the experience, and that’s our motto. Watches and Wonders '24 commenced in April amidst pre-show rumors and teasers circulating around the shores of Lake Geneva. The melting snow set the perfect backdrop for dealers, makers, and retailers to delve into the latest offerings in the luxury timepiece market for the upcoming 12 months. While much of the buzz revolved around the world's largest brand, Rolex, there were also 53 additional brands vying to make their own headlines, and many succeeded in doing so.

TUDOR

The very capable little brother to Rolex splashed a new collaboration with David Beckham all over the airwaves a week prior that included a chrono sport on a stainless bracelet with a pink dial, grabbing its inspiration from the wildly successful Inter Miami soccer team and its star Lionel Messi. While it's unusual to see women wearing a Tudor (as they often wear a Rolex), you will certainly find a lot of Pink dial Chronos in the Miami clubs come October or November, IF you can get one! Limited in availability, this watch will be sought after by many. Continuing the Tudor train is their further expansion of the Black Bay line, including not only a solid 18K gold/green dial piece but also a complete surprise in a new GMT model with the patina and coloration of a vintage Rolex “coke” model. This watch took the show by storm, with many believing it was the Best In Show.

VACHERON CONSTANTIN

One of the Holy Trinity of brands is Vacheron Constantin, a beautifully crafted line worn by many upper-class watch enthusiasts. Its famous overseas model, coveted by many, has released a thinner, more tapered model of the famous classic. Vacheron has never been about groundbreaking releases but rather quality, refinement, and class, like the stunning Égerié Moonphase Haute Couture creation with lilac tones surrounded by the fully matched diamond bezel.

Cartier, a brand synonymous with fine jewelry, has upped the game on its watches in the last 2 years. Its Dumont series with skeletonized cases have mesmerized the watch world as it continues to redefine its Tank and Santos collections. Cartier can easily dominate the gem-set market because of their quality, but many believe the functionality of the Cartier movements is what is leading them into the top 3. This year’s standout is in the beautifully shaped Tortue line. With a gently tapered 34.8MM case, the timepiece features a mono-pusher movement in 18K white gold. It is refined, elegant, and timeless.

Last but not least, Cartier reintroduces a quirky gem with the Santos Dumont Rewind. Everyone wishes they could turn back time, and this watch does just that by actually showing the time in reverse on the dial. To make the Rewind even more amazing is the deep red cabochon dial encased in platinum. Only 200 pieces will be made, and at $32,500, they will sell fast and be collected forever.

Some say it's harder to get than a basic Rolex; Patek’s annual additions could be more about discontinued models than new editions. Patek does almost everything in its designs based on very few actual case designs. From there, it's in the dials, sub-dials, and metal features. Last year, they took the well-known Calatrava line and added a carbon pattern in the dial, expanding on several color combinations not seen before from Patek. Let’s not forget the Calatrava travel time. Heavily loomed for travel, this one details a duel time dial, new syringe hands, and a 24-hour format designed originally for the military. Offered in a beautiful deep blue dial, this is a watch you will reference a lot while traveling. This year, Patek used a distinctive colorway throughout its offerings with denim straps that look both casual and formal at the same time.

AUDEMARS PIGUET

The splash announcement that huge watch collector John Meyer was working with AP on a collaboration of a new Perpetual Calendar took the watch world by surprise. A beautifully polished dial comes off as crystal and very celestial in its beauty. Dubbed the Crystal Sky, this watch will trade for well over $100,000 in its limited production. Meyer, who has his own named model from Rolex (yellow gold Daytona w green dial), is not known as an AP wearer, but that’s all changed with the introduction of the Crystal Sky. What about AP’s famous Code 11:59? It will be expanded with further complications which will keep it as a coveted piece for years to come. Finally, the Royal Oak line expands into colors of metals with the addition of palladium, which has created a new hue of rose gold... almost tan in color, setting it apart from others.

INDEPENDENT BRANDS

ROLEX

The world’s largest maker of watches with annual sales that exceed $11 billion dollars, Rolex released a teaser video of micro shots of rose gold bracelets, fluted bezels, gem set diamonds, and yellow gold clasps in the days leading up to the show. After all of the temptations wore down, we finally got a look at an impeccably designed gem-set Daytona with 50 identically matched diamonds around the bezel and mother-of-pearl dials that will certainly make it an heirloom. Most surprising for Rolex was the addition of a new 1908 model dress watch with a hand-turned guilloché dial in ice blue. There was also a beautiful solid yellow gold “Blueberry” dial deep-sea model that will be like wearing an anchor on your wrist! While most felt the new releases were underwhelming, Rolex will probably smash sales records with a new black and grey dial Submariner on an oyster or jubilee bracelet. At $10,500 it may become one of the most sought-after entry-level Rolex’s of all time.

The small but growing popular brand is stunned with a perpetual calendar, a high complication for them but one that will only help the brand's visibility. It was joined by another boutique brand, Speake-Marin, who introduced a gorgeous Ultra Violet Openworked Tourbillon with automatic SMA05 caliber movement and fully integrated tungsten micro-rotor and rhodium-plated details. This timepiece pushes the boundaries of traditional watchmaking that perhaps could only be accomplished by an independent.

Titanium metal, now widely used in watches, is lighter, stronger, and slightly different in hue. It has appeared in almost every

high-end line, including Cartier, Rolex, Omega, IWC, Tudor, Oris, Porsche Design, and Chopard. Equally present were designs using three-dimensional specs like raised bridges, super lumed indices, and radiant dials, which brought new life to classic brands.

LVMH – the fashion behemoth behind brands such as Tag Heuer, Bulgari, Zenith, and Hublot won the crowd whispers as the dominant force chasing Rolex for the overall top spot. Each one of their respective line-ups had debut pieces that received more than their fair share of attention. The LV Tambour, Tag Huer Monaco split-second chronograph, and the Octo Finnissimo Ultra by Bulgari (now the world’s thinnest watch with complications and a new World Record) all set new standards and are housed under a single luxury roof.

By picking up this summer’s issue, you’ve already stepped into the world of Shelli Briedenbach’s lens. Marked by its minimalist elegance, Breidenbach’s equestrian photography reshapes the narrative of traditional horse portraits by placing these majestic creatures against dynamic black, white, and vibrantly colored canvases.

Leaving Wall Street behind, Shelli’s journey into photography began on a family trip to South Africa, where her love for animals and passion for photography amplified, setting the stage for her artistic career. “Africa had a huge impact on me. It made me love wild animals even more, taught me to respect their space and

homes, and overall, it made me realize the importance of caring for our environment,” she says.

Yet, the real gem lies in the story of the high-flying Casa de Campo adventure with a helicopter navigating the skies, capturing polo players in full swing against a backdrop that steals the breath away. It’s not your typical photo shoot tale, but then again, Shelli is anything but typical. The adrenaline rush of capturing such dynamic shots, combined with the awe-inspiring backdrop of the open sky, created an unforgettable experience for both the photographer and her subjects. “Hanging out of a helicopter with no doors was definitely a challenge, but the results were worth it,” she reflects.

EQUINE MINIMALISM REDEFINED:

Bredienbach’s unique style, dubbed equine minimalist photography, involves capturing horses without tack against carefully chosen backdrops. With a meticulous eye for detail, she breaks down each image to accentuate the shapes and forms of her majestic subjects. The goal is to focus solely on the horse, eliminating distractions and allowing the viewer to appreciate the beauty and athleticism of these magnificent creatures. “I started by placing a hand-painted burlap behind the horses to eliminate distractions and focus solely on the beauty and athleticism of the horse,” she says. “My goal with all of my photography, in general, is to focus on the subject and not the environment.”

Despite initially starting her career in fashion photography, Shelli’s journey took a natural and inevitable turn towards

equestrian photography as her passion for animals, particularly horses, flourished. With each click of the camera, she not only captures images but also preserves moments of profound connection and mutual respect between horse and human. For Shelli, the transition from fashion to equine photography wasn’t just a professional evolution; it was a deeply personal one, driven by her love for these magnificent creatures and the desire to share their beauty with the world.

BUILDING RELATIONSHIPS:

While Bredienbach didn’t delve into competitive equestrian events until adulthood, it was during these formative years that she first discovered the intrinsic beauty and grace of these majestic animals. “Ultimately, as a rider, my true passion led me to spend the majority of my time simply being with horses in the

barn. That’s where I felt most connected and where I chose to channel my energy. Becoming a successful equine photographer, to me, is inseparable from being a rider.”

For the photographer, the heart of her craft lies in the continuous process of building relationships with her equine subjects. She understands the importance of establishing trust, recognizing that it’s these authentic connections that enable her to capture the true essence of each horse she photographs. “I aim to always focus on the animals at all costs and give them the time and understanding they need,” she says.

BEHIND THE LENS:

Equine photography involves a meticulous process where every detail matters. From the carefully chosen color of hand-painted backdrops to the positions of each horse and

the interplay of lighting, her photographs are a testament to her commitment to creating stunning art images. “Every shoot involves building a full set with a massive backdrop and extensive equipment,” she says. “ It’s a lot to ask of the animals, so understanding and patience are crucial.”

Breidenbach’s equine photographs have become iconic, gracing the pages of equestrian magazines and adorning horse show posters, such as the Hampton Classic Horse Show poster back in 2021. As she continues to make waves in the equestrian photography world, Shelli also finds solace and inspiration in her own slice of nature. “I bought a property six years ago and brought my retired horse home. Eventually, I added more animals, including mini ponies, sheep, goats, and even a pig,” she reveals. “It’s been fulfilling to grow old with my retired horse and spend time with all the animals on a daily basis.”

WHERE DOES YOUR CULINARY STORY BEGIN AND HOW THE JOURNEY BROUGHT YOU HERE.

When I was about eight years old, I remember being in the kitchen with my grandma while she was making her Sicilian Pignoli Cookies, and all I wanted to do was help her cook. After a few times of her letting me “help” her, I knew that cooking was always going to be a love of mine. It didn’t hurt that the finished product was always delicious. By the time I was able to work, at 15, I had my first job working in a bakery after school and on weekends. From then on, I’ve moved around from restaurants and hotels to private clubs. When I found The Club at the National Polo Center, I was amazed at how beautiful the facility was and how fascinating the game of Polo was. I immediately thought that this was something I had to be involved in.

WHAT IS YOUR FIRST “FOOD MEMORY?”

My very first memory of food is probably similar to a lot of children out there. I was around four years old, and my mom would make these rich chocolate brownies. I would always be there in the kitchen, just waiting to lick the batter off the spatula when she was finished.

WHAT ROLE DO WELLNESS AND SUSTAINABILITY HAVE IN YOUR KITCHEN?

With an increasing number of people becoming more health-conscious and aware of their dietary needs, I believe it is paramount to focus on fresh, organic, farm-to-table ingredients. As a father of a young child, the environmental impact that we create, not only now but also for future generations, is extremely

important. We, as Chefs, need to be more responsible for not only creating dishes that taste good but that are also well-balanced with nutrition. Specific to The Club at NPC, by using high-quality, fresh, and locally sourced ingredients that naturally enhance the flavor of dishes, we are cutting the need for excessive fats, sugars, or artificial additives that are found in more traditional cooking. By purchasing from local farms and by using sustainably sourced ingredients we can help to reduce our carbon footprint.

DO YOU HAVE A FAVORITE TECHNIQUE OR INGREDIENT YOU CANNOT LIVE WITHOUT?

As a Chef, it’s difficult to choose just one. There are endless ingredients and techniques that are crucial to have in your repertoire. If I had to choose, I would say fresh herbs are a must. They add brightness, depth, and beautiful aromas to dishes from different cuisines all over the world. Ultimately, my passion lies in continuously learning and experimenting with the pairing of new ingredients and techniques.

WHICH PERSON HAS MOST INFLUENCED YOU AND YOUR PASSION FOR COOKING?

One of the many influential people in my life was my mother, not necessarily because of the food she made but because of her work ethic. She would work a full-time job and come home every single day to prepare dinner for our family of five. Looking back, being able to sit together as a family and eat dinner every night really helped to create strong family values and made me the chef I am today.

Professionally, I would have to say every chef I have ever worked for or encountered has influenced me. Cooking is an ever-evolving

profession, and that means there is always something new to learn. Few things in life are as precious as knowledge. Any time you can gain information, you should take advantage of it.

My passion for cooking revolves around three major things for me.

Creativity — Being able to experiment with different flavors and techniques and come up with new dishes.

Learning/Teaching — Being able always to learn new things and pass them down to the younger generation of chefs.

Satisfaction — One of the best parts about being a chef is creating and executing a well-balanced dish and seeing the joy it brings to people.

HEY, CHEF, WHAT DOES YOUR TABLE LOOK LIKE?

My table at home is always set with place settings and flowers, thanks to my lovely wife. However, it often goes underutilized. As a chef with long hours and a young child, we as a family are always on the go and frequently use the kitchen island to gather around and eat. But wherever we are, as long as we are eating together, it’s always a beautiful table.

FROM HIGH SCHOOL TEAMMATES TO WHISKEY MAVERICKS

THE ORIGINS OF LOCKE + CO. DISTILLING AND ITS ASPEN-AGED SPIRITS, FORGED BY COLORADO CHARACTER, CURIOSITY, AND CAMARADERIE—A SMOOTH COMPANION FOR LIFE’S MANY ADVENTURES.

In a market brimming with bottles tailored for exclusivity, Locke + Co. emerges as a Colorado-based distillery with a clear goal: to offer a neighborly touch to the world of whiskey. For Owen Locke and Rick Talley, former high school teammates and MBA colleagues turned entrepreneurs, every brand decision is anchored by a simple question: "Does it belong around a campfire?" Since its incorporation in 2016, this micro-distillery has made a bold mark, driven by hands-on founders, a meticulous crafting approach, and a spirit as fiery as the Wild West itself.

“Whiskey is often an exclusionary club where you are expected to drink your whiskey neat in a leather chair while smoking a cigar,” Talley remarks. “Everyone is welcome to join us around our ‘campfire’; it’s how this whole idea got started. Owen always jokes

that I’m the ‘+ Co’ to the brand, but in reality, everyone is our ‘+ Co.’”

Rooted in their upbringing, where gatherings were frequent, and reinforced by their experience working under Jim Beam during their MBA studies at the University of Denver's Daniels College of Business, Locke and Talley's dedication to hospitality runs deep. For the duo, enjoying a good drink isn't just a hobby—it's an integral part of who they are.

“We met in the mid-90s and played lacrosse together throughout high school,” Talley recalls. “Around this time, there was a big craft brewing boom in Colorado. Owen was smart and would get grain and equipment from the brewing stores that were popping up. I thought, ‘I should get to know this guy.’”

Locke, a sixth-generation Coloradoan with ancestral ties to moonshining, started refining his brewing talents at just fifteen. He jokes that his parents supported his experimentation due to their own family legacy: one great-grandfather owned Denver's inaugural liquor store, while another crafted gin during Prohibition.

“Locke + Co has always been a story about friendship and making friends,” Locke reflects. “In high school, we were too young to be doing that but it was a great way to make friends with the neighbors. It started again when Rick and I reconnected in grad school. I still remember the fall of 2010 at a family property in Fairplay, surrounded by nothing but aspen trees and the Rocky Mountains. As we sat around a fire, passing a jar of moonshine, we asked the question, ‘What would a wood chunk do?’”

That simple curiosity was the catalyst for everything and began the journey of using charred aspen wood to make whiskey. From their initial experimentation with a chunk of charred aspen wood in that moonshine jar, enduring the diverse seasons of Colorado on a windowsill, to their current process of using hand-cut and hand-charred aspen discs, the duo realized they had discovered what Talley refers to as their "secret sauce”—the aspen wood added flavor and filtration for a “Taste Like None Other.”

“Instead of cutting the aspen longwise, we started crosscutting into discs so you’re able to see the rings, “Talley says. “The whiskey interacts and flows easier within the tree; 70% of all whiskey’s flavor comes from interacting with the charred oak barrels and our charred aspen discs. It’s a labor of love, hand-cutting, seasoning, sanding, and charring each piece of wood.”

Aspen Aged Rye

Locke + Co.'s flagship whiskey, a seven-time award winner, embodies enduring quality. Aged for two years in charred oak barrels, the spirit undergoes a unique finishing process, maturing for an additional eight months with hand-charred aspen wood discs. Hints of sweet cherry, vanilla, and rye lead to a velvety cascade of caramel, tobacco, and cinnamon, culminating in a refreshing blend of ginger and black pepper spice for a warm and clean finish.

Like any new venture, success didn’t come immediately. “The first time we ran the still, it didn’t filter the grains enough, scorched the mash, and the whiskey tasted really bad,” Locke laughs. “I even have a brewing background. We had to crawl before we ran, with bumps and bruises, but we kept going.”

The pair favors 30-gallon oak barrels over the traditional 53-gallon size, with char levels ranging from 2 to 5, contributing to Locke + Co’s unique whiskey profiles. Despite their modest scale, the team has secured top honors as a small craft distillery for five consecutive years, releasing fewer than 100 barrels annually and earning numerous gold medals since hitting shelves in the fall of 2018. The brand’s limited availability adds to the allure, making encountering Locke + Co. spirits a special experience—best shared with others.

"We're expanding our collaborations with local bars and restaurants, adding to the '+ Co.' experience,” Locke says. “We've crafted custom whiskies for exclusive Colorado Dude Ranches, offer personalized tasting experiences, and search out unique collaborations like partnering with a local company to age honey in our used whiskey barrels. We recently launched our ‘Big Catch Bourbon,’ we have expert mixologists working on custom cocktail recipes, and there’s even more in the pipeline. FROM SHOW JUMPING TO ENTREPRENEURIAL SUCCESS: HOW A HUSBAND AND WIFE’S SHARED LOVE OF HORSES LED TO THE FOUNDING OF THE PARALLÈLE GROUP

In 2010, Roxane Mosleh-Ginsberg had no idea that moving her horse under the instruction of show jumper and trainer Bobby Ginsberg would mark the beginning of one of her most exciting life adventures. Bobby, a seasoned equestrian and trainer from Southampton, New York, and owner of the historic Southampton Riding Club, introduced Roxane to the Wellington show circuit and its vibrant, multifaceted community.

“Our journey into entrepreneurship was a natural braiding of our worlds,” Roxane reflects. “I came into the relationship as a professional interior designer and he came with an extensive equestrian background—as a Grand Prix rider representing Puerto Rico.”

The couple shared a mutual love for real estate, design, and certainly horses. Together, they founded The Parallèle Group, a holding company that married the three ventures that the Ginsbergs operate: Parallèle Design, Parallèle Properties, and Parallèle Sport Horses.

“When we opened a real estate brokerage in Florida with an established design firm, we knew we were pushing the envelope,” Roxane reflects. “We wanted the ability to offer our clients a true turnkey service from property acquisition to completion. We are a true design-build

consultancy. With our network we knew we needed to operate in the prime markets of New York and Florida.”

In addition to real estate, design, and a construction consultancy, Parallèle utilizes exclusive relationships with European manufacturers such as Dolce & Gabbana Casa, Missoni Home, Kartell, and BOLON—with the ability to cater to the luxury residential sector.

With a fondness for the charm of the East Coast, the pair have a rich history in the region, with roots stretching between The Hamptons and Wellington, Florida. The Ginsbergs restored and own the original club house of the Southampton Hunt and Riding Club. It was originally a sprawling, thirty-seven-acre horse farm once known for its 1920s horse shows and events; and most notably, the grounds where Jackie Kennedy Onassis spent her formative years riding.

“As a result of the nationwide pandemic, we were ready for the next phase of life and that was the launch of Parallèle in Florida,” Roxane says. Remaining authentic to their origins extends to the group’s branding. The name “Parallèle,” written in French, reflects Roxane’s French heritage and embodies the concept of their three distinct industries—real estate, design, and equestrian —in a constant state of intersection.

In the eyes of professional polo player Kerstie Allen, moments shared with a horse are akin to encountering magic. “Horses tend to touch your soul in a way nothing else can,” Allen shares. “They have their own language, feel, and sensation. Even though we are from all over the world, a horse speaks all languages.”

Allen’s insight into the equestrian realm and its profound connections reflects her rich travel history, marked by a passport adorned with stamps from across the globe. Prior to recently establishing Wellington as her winter residence, she spent her childhood in Melbourne, Australia, where horse accessibility was limited—a hurdle that merely fueled Allen’s determination and grit.

“Talking, running, daydreaming, drawing horses, and begging Santa for one took up most of my school years,” Allen says. “Then it was the local pony club, the road trip to a weekend event, and off on a plane to a foreign land, all to find that next horse adventure.”

She fondly recalls her childhood fascination with the polo match scene from “Pretty Woman,” where Julia Roberts takes to the pitch at half-time to “tread in” and stomp down the turf kicked up by galloping hooves.

“Avoid the steaming divots,” Allen humorously recalls, noting her youthful penchant for recording any television program featuring horses.

“Once polo gets in your blood, it’s there for life,” Allen says. “I adore polo because we’re not defined by the ability of just one horse, and we may have four or more. Polo allows us to get several opportunities to get something positive out of each horse in each ride. I think some of my horses know the game better than myself.”

During the winter months in the Equestrian Capital of the World, Allen is thankful for the opportunity to witness one of the four major polo seasons, featuring renowned players and the world’s most celebrated horses.

“Who could imagine there were towns like Wellington that have traffic lights with horses on them that you can reach while on horseback?” Allen says. “Or bridle paths that lead you through mazes of the barns we couldn’t even dream of to end up at the most prestigious horse show and polo fields in the nation?”

Among the myriad of opportunities stemming from her profound love for horses, movie wrangling stands out as particularly unique. Allen notes that this role is relatively uncommon in the US and requires a select group of individuals with diverse specialty talents in handling horses and livestock. Her exceptional skill set has opened doors for her to work as a wrangler on set for “1883,” as well as “Florida Wild”—a Florida-based Western show that will be released in 2025.

“It’s a big family that comes together to make magic happen on the big screen,” Allen says. “They are men and women that we trust and have our back no matter the time of day or task given. They travel across the country with horses, livestock wagons, and accessories. I believe it’s noble, a pride, and a passion to portray the cowboy way, and the horse at its best, for the public to view.”

Inspired by her polo regimen, a typical day for Allen while wrangling on set mirrors many aspects, including feeding, grooming, and riding. She emphasizes that years of breaking, training, and teaching are fundamental in instilling trust in horses, especially under the demanding circumstances of film sets. As a result, she occasionally relies on her own polo horses and the strong bond they’ve cultivated for certain movie scenes.

“Finding the horses that love it also makes our job so much easier,” Allen adds. “It helps actors and the film industry achieve the image they are trying to achieve. Like polo, a lot of work goes on behind the scenes to make an hour or two of entertainment for the final result.”

Allen is frequently spotted riding horses with full manes, a trait typically associated with inexperienced or newly trained horses. However, in Allen’s case, these horses are chosen because they can also be utilized for movie roles.

“This experience has allowed me to travel the world and see, meet, and ride in places I would have never imagined existed,” Allen says. “At the end of the day, I feel fulfilled. I have never needed a gym, felt lonely, or wanted a holiday from my life. Every day with a horse is complete for me.”

POLO PEDIGREE

Like many of the most notable high-goal polo players in the world, 33-year-old Pedro Falabella grew up with polo pulsing through his blood. In the Argentine town of San Antonio de Areco, which has for centuries been home to the traditions and customs inspired by the Gauchos, Falabella was raised on a horse farm in a family of polo players, where learning to ride a horse came before the bicycle.

With family ties breeding polo ponies in Canada, Falabella began traveling with them and learning about the international circuit. By age 12, he was competing professionally while finishing school and knew this was the lifestyle he craved. “I loved the idea of traveling around the world, learning about new places, and making new friends and connections.”

The Senvest team member has played in the highly esteemed Argentina Open, won the Pacific Coast Open as well as The Hamptons Cup where he hopes to help bring his team to victory again this 2024 season. “I love the Hamptons and imagine myself going there every summer for polo season.” Currently, he divides his time between polo hubs of Argentina, the Hamptons, and Wellington, where he and his family have just completed building the American outpost of their original Argentine polo farm, “Triangulo.”

“I really appreciate the opportunity polo gives me to meet some of the most intelligent and interesting people around the world,” says Falabella, who also takes advantage of doing business with them parallel to the sport. One aspect of the industry that has recently seen growth is horse cloning, especially for the purpose of breeding the most competitive polo horses. While not legal in the United States, The Argentina Polo Association has no restrictions on how many cloned horses can play in a game. Biopolo, one of the biggest embryo centers in Argentina, is operated from inside his family farm there. “That is where all of my horse breeds begin. Then, I make the journey from the farm to the competition

and travel to the United States,” explains Falabella, who has seven clones of his best mare, Margarita. While competing takes up most of his time, Falabella still enjoys bringing new people to the sport both to teach them and provide them everything they need to become players. He has had the unique opportunity to play with and teach celebrities and kings from around the world but on the field, everyone is an equal judged only by their game. While for many, the “sport of kings” still conjures up images of posh charity parties and aristos, polo is seemingly experiencing a transformation in the United States, breathing new life, new fans, and a breed of high-profile professionals like Falabella into the future.

A new level of golf club comfort in Stuart, Florida

An entirely advanced standard of luxury and indulgence for a three-course private golf club is now underway in Martin County. APOGEE – the name derives from the apex of a flight path, meaning the highest possible level of achievement – occupies a low-lying, 1,200-acre inland site 30 miles northwest of downtown West Palm Beach. There, the biggest names in golf design and golf hospitality are bringing their talents to bear in the form of three 18-hole golf courses framed by an impressive array of recreational amenities.

Six-star luxury, overseen by concierge service of the highest order, will permeate every aspect of the club, from its haute cuisine dining, poolside spa, fitness center, tennis, pickleball, and padel courts to some 54 villas for overnight stays. Unlike almost all new golf developments in Florida, APOGEE will have no real estate on offer.

The visionaries behind the private club – membership is by invitation only – are two veterans of the upscale development market. Michael Pascucci, founder, and owner of Sebonack Golf Club in Southampton, Long Island (home of the 2013 U.S. Women’s Open), is also co-owner of the Bear’s Club in Jupiter, Florida, as well as a proven force in the world of media and investing. His

sole equity partner in the APOGEE venture is Steve Ross, owner of the NFL’s Miami Dolphins and founder of the worldwide real estate development firm Related Companies, based in New York City and West Palm Beach.

The design team looks like a Hall of Fame of golf architecture. The first course, APOGEE-West, opened in Dec. 2023, is the product of Gil Hanse and Jim Wager. Their previous credits include Streamsong-Black in Central Florida, the 2016 Rio

Olympics Golf Course, Castle Stuart in Northern Scotland, and restorations of the U.S. Open venues in 2022 (The Country Cub in Massachusetts) and 2023 (Los Angeles Country Club). Befitting their design philosophy of ground game access and variety in shot-making, APOGEE-West is unlike any Florida course in that it does not feature intrusive water hazards but instead relies upon a wide playing field.

The second course, APOGEE-South, is now under construction and will open at the end of 2024. The design team unites two industry veterans. Tommy Fazio, scion of a famous eponymous architecture family, sports a resume that includes Trump Bedminster-New in New Jersey, Trinity Club in South Korea, and (with Nick Price) Quail Valley Golf Club in Vero Beach, Florida. At APOGEE, Fazio has partnered with Mike Davis, who gave up

a 30-year career as championship director and CEO of the United States Golf Association to pursue a lifelong ambition of becoming a course designer. They are not only designing the South Course but are responsible for all of the golf construction at APOGEE – 54 holes, a 7-hole short course, a par-3

layout, a family-style putting course, and something that will draw the attention of serious players, including the region’s

PGA Tour pros – a circular, 55-acre practice facility replete with state-of-the-art launch monitoring and swing analysis technology. Their layout features dramatic elevation changes; it is the kind of layout that will look hard, and can play hard, but that also offers generous bailouts and alternative paths for those more modestly-skilled players who prefer their golf in more manageable segments.

Long-perceived as the preferred prize for parents insisting on peerless performance and practicality, the new G60 5 Series preserves its status as the pinnacle of sports sedans. Its five-decade reign has undergone constant evolution, always with the intent of remaining the Ultimate (family)Driving Machine. The formula behind the 5 Series’ success is unchanged, though as proven by the utter lack of competition, one near-impossible to perfect: deliver the luxury of the iconic 7 Series with the dynamic driving excitement of the 3 Series.

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED. AGAIN.

The eight generation marks its debut in 2024, offering a litany of updates throughout the range—and for the first time, two models motivated solely by electricity. The brand-new i5 is available either as the rear-wheel drive, 335-horsepower eDrive40, or the all-wheel drive, 592-horsepower M60 xDrive. Both enjoy a Sport Boost function which unlocks upwards of 605 lb-ft of torque in the latter. Self-leveling springs and fast charging support are standard on all i5 models, and the marvelous

dual-motor M60 achieves 295 miles in Max Range mode. Even recharging is a riot owing to the 20 available AirConsole video games accessible to both driver and passenger.

Traditionally-powered iterations rely on two turbocharged options; a 2.0-liter four-cylinder churning out 255 horsepower, and a 3.0-liter six-cylinder making 375-horsepower—an increase of 40 over its predecessor. Both also invoke the assistance of BMW’s 48V mild hybrid technology and are available with xDrive.

Reinvigorated styling signifies the model’s continued maturity. The striking silhouette is augmented by a square

jawed front fascia, sharp and stoic body lines, and pleasing proportions throughout a lengthened and widened chassis. The hood is more pronounced, and the sloping rear roofline resembles a fastback coupe more than a three-box sedan.

Inside is BMW’s latest generation operating system, iDrive 8.5. The technological tour-de-force continues with BMW Highway Assistant, which monitors the driver’s eyes during hands-free cruising. Should the system decide to overtake or change lanes, a simple glance at the corresponding rearview mirror confirms the action. When extra passing power is required, the left paddle on the 530i and 540i provides extra boost from the hybrid system.

Though more spacious than the outgoing model, the cockpit is designed around the driver, with a low yet commanding seating position. The asymmetrical dashboard is curved toward the operator and the paddle shifters and steering wheel stalks don’t interfere with each other.

Optional active roll stabilization trades stiff sway bars in favor of small electric motors at each corner. These provide tighter handling and more effective roll rejection in spirited driving without the harsh ride inherent to physical bars. Those requiring more response can still opt for the optional M Sport package.

Order books are open now for all electric and fuel-powered 5 Series. Of course, details on the hotly-anticipated M5 version are expected soon; and if the initial models are an indication, it too will retake its crown as the preeminent family performer.
