A few minutes ago, I watched an action video of a snow-boader as he went down a snow-capped peak - the amazing quality video, which captured every movement and stunt, was shot by a personal drone which was tracking the geotag on the boarder’s wrist. We’ve seen stuff like this in movies like Star Wars - a personal drone hovering along as you walk, perhaps carrying on a conversation. Did we truly believe it would happen within our lifetime? It is - here and now. We are living through an extraordinary time, are we not? There are things being done around the world that most of us thought unthinkable a few short decades ago. Advancements, innovations and creativity in areas like architecture, technology, medicine, philanthropy are everywhere to be found. Our imagination has never been so active and enthralled ever before. What’s the common thread in all of this? Inspiration. It’s ordinary people doing extraordinary things - people who, through a deep sense of purpose, dedicate themselves to accomplishing incredible things.
This is a shot of Mud Bay, as I rode my hybrid bike along the edge. My photo above is a selfie takenfrom the same bike. On a recent flight to Toronto I made a new friend who inspired me to take up cycling - something I’d been thinking about for quite some time. Thank you, Tim Saxer. Hope you and your family are well. The 5 hour flight was made shorter by the enjoyable conversations we had.
You don’t have to look far to find examples of such inspired individuals. Right here in Western Canada, there are plenty to be found, and you’ll find them in all areas of life. Across this page is a good example. The Lift The Children Foundation, which is dedicated to lifting the fate of under-privileged children, is supported by the tireless efforts and vision of individuals like John Volken, its founder, and Abdul Ladha. In the world of automobiles, Carlo Galasso of Ferrai Maserati is such an individual. This magazine is dedicated as much to inpiring individuals as it is to those that are inspired by them. It’s a question of commitment to lofty ideals; to higher standards and principles; to quality and refinement; to purpose and the sheer joy of creating the finest of something. You may think of the ideal pearl as a perfect sphere, but perfection, according to Isaac, is overrated. Yvel’s specialty is the baroque pearl – one-of-a-kind gems in asymmetrical shapes that inspire Isaac’s designs. “During one of our pearl farms visits, we watched how everyone was fighting to get their hands on the round pearls,” he remembers “but discarded in a corner was a basket of the ‘misshapen’ baroque pearls that were deemed worthless. I looked in the basket and saw myself in those ‘imperfect’ pearls, and that was the moment when I fell in love with baroque pearls.” Yvel’s seven distinctive collections center around bringing out the organic

from the continuous line that runs around the cabin, driving through the console and into two symmetrical wings before flowing into the door and looping back into the console armrest. Two elegant quilted sports seats are positioned either side of the narrow centre console which houses exquisite driver controls and a highly intuitive 12” touch screen. It was Galasso’s teenage dream of excitement and luxury—of Ferrari— however, which ultimately led him to his work as Dealer Principal at Ferrari Maserati of Alberta. We caught up with Galasso for a glimpse at what drives him.
What does being a part of the Ferrari brand mean to you? The name “Ferrari” excites people, it does; I see that and I never lose sight of that. Who doesn’t love a Ferrari, right? My dream from when I was 15 years old was to own a Ferrari. That dream came true when I was 32, and

from there I started getting more involved in the automotive side of life. And here I am today: now I represent these brands.
Your success with Ferrari is clear— aside from the business side of things, what excites you about your work? I like motivating people. I’ve mentored a lot of people throughout my life. I like to see people get ahead. The coolest thing is to watch young kids come into the store and just get completely mesmerized. Often times I’ll set up contests with kids—
like if they can increase their grades, I’ll work with the parents and give them rides, and if they’re old enough sometimes even drive the car. It’s a motivator for a lot of kids.
I also just love to create. I’ve been part of a lot of patents and interesting work, and I think my greatest skill set is my imagination—my ability to think outside the box. I love to be creative. When I was working on the Car Bras, one of my greatest inspirations was Jean Paul Gaultier—I wanted to do haute couture.
When you leave the office, what are your passions? My greatest passion in my life is my son. I love spending time with him. In my mind, he will be the greatest legacy that I leave behind. I’m also very dedicated to my health and well-being: I love to exercise and train with my trainer, and I love badminton, table tennis, racquet sports.
