I

was raised in western suburbs of Illinois by 2 dentists. My father is a WWII veteran who was stationed in Calcutta India; my mother was a country girl from Oklahoma. They taught me the benefits of hard work and education. I was a great student and athlete and I went on to compete at the collegiate level. I graduated from the University of Michigan where I was a student athlete. I was a Big Ten triple jumper who was studying pre-med. I was very involved in campus ministry and began working for a real estate firm during the summers. That was where I met my mentor who encouraged me to get licensed during a semester break. I thought that I would finish ministry school before going to dental school because it was a short program and my real estate career was beginning to blossom. I started ministry school after college and sold real estate while attending. I became a rising star agent in the West Bloomfield, MI area. Shortly after graduation I moved to San Antonio to help out a church start-up in the area.

At that point I felt that I could go to UTHSCSA to finish up a dental degree when I was ready. However, I began selling real estate in the Northwest parts of San Antonio and really fell in love with my career, the people, and the Sunny San Antonio area. I quickly became one of the top agents in my office; and there was no looking back. I really bring a strong work ethic with an understanding of luxury and how properties are sold. I work as a designer myself and I have a few that I work with me that can really help my properties stand out from the competition. Additionally I believe in first class marketing as there are really no short cuts there. I title my work my “Ministry of Real Estate Excellence,� as I am honored to serve my clients with top notch service. I have 13 years experience in the real estate industry and I have been selling in San Antonio for the last 11 years.

I am blessed to have a wonderful daughter whom I am raising with my husband, Ray Cruz who spent 20 years in the air-force before retiring. My daughter Reign Cruz is learning swimming and piano and attends Primrose locally. -Charo!

Tell us about growing up… life before the car business.

What keeps you excited about the car business?

My dad, Reynaldo Rocha, is a native of Harlingen, TX. My mother, Araceli Rocha, was born and raised in Laredo TX, where they both reside today and raised 4 children. My parents heavily instilled the values of family, honesty and respect. They were always pushing us to do better and to follow our dreams. To this day, my siblings and I share a unique closeness that provides unconditional support and love in all that I do. I am truly blessed that my best friends are my brothers and sister.

I like the adrenaline rush! I find pleasure in the process of transitioning a customer from "looking" at a car to actually buying it. I enjoy seeing the look of a happy customer after they've purchase their dream car. I sometimes feel I gain more excitement from selling a car than my actual sales consultants. I can honestly say I enjoy coming to work everyday, and I truly mean that.

Where do you think your drive to be successful came from? My professional ambition grew by seeing my father’s determination at his businesses. He owned a jewelry store for 20 years. He later purchased a snow cone machine for me to sell snow cones outside his store. Helping him at his store and selling snow cones for profit, I feel, rooted my business passion at a very early age. During my summer as a 12 year old, I started to learn the value of a dollar; how hard it is to earn one and the meaning of saving up for whatever teenage desires I had back then. What is your current role at Barrett Motor Cars? I’m the General Manager of Barrett Jaguar and Maserati of San Antonio. As GM, my job is to not only assure the successful direction and completion of long and short range objectives, but I’m also responsible for the discipline, morale, effectiveness and well being of each person employed by the dealership. I develop efficient managers and work with them to see that goals are accomplished with minimal friction and maximum efficiency.

What would you say is your greatest sports moment you’ve experienced as a fan? Game 5 of the NBA Finals last year! Even if you’re not a Spurs fan, you have to love the story. Imagine how the Spurs felt after losing such a heartbreaking series in 2013. It may have been the lowest point in their careers, but then came 2014 and they just steamrolled through everyone. It was an inspirational season and something that anyone who has gone through rough times can use as motivation. The whole is greater than the sum of its parts and if you have the will, the focus and confidence, you can’t lose. This holds true in business as well. Tell us about the sign above your office door? “Play Like a Champion Today”. Aside from being a Notre Dame fan, it’s a frequent reminder to give it my all every day. It’s easy to get into a routine and become passive with your work or life for that matter. So, I use it as motivation. If I give it my all, then I can live with the outcome. Come by and see me.
