“W

hen the eagles are silent, parrots begin to chatter.” – Winston Churchill, Fulton, USA (1946).

Time passes; Churchill’s words are now seventy-seven years old, and it may seem as if everything has changed. It feels like things have been different for decades, but is that really the case? We can interpret what has become a Churchill catchphrase, in different ways, but what I hear in his words is this: silence is criminal. Silence is the fate of the weak. To censor is to shackle the conscience.

We have been given a voice to speak. Sometimes even to scream. We have been given a voice – be it loud, quiet, barely perceptible; whichever it may be, it has been given us so that we may express our thoughts, feelings, emotions and aspirations. Let’s do something reflective: let’s each choose one subject – a problem or cause that resonates in the soul; that touches the heart. And we will talk about it as often and as loudly as our projection allows. Let it resonate like Mariah Carey or the glorious Caruso, it doesn’t matter, as long as it gets heard. Ecology, nature, caring for our oceans and protecting animals, protection of human rights, protection of architectural monuments, preservation of culture, Ukraine, Artsakh, Armenia, Israel... Let us not be silent.

Then perhaps there is a chance that together we will change something for the better. Then we have some hope. And if we have that, we already have so much. Our magazine is all about luxury lifestyle, about holidays and beauty, about super-abundance and well-being, about rich, famous and massively successful people.

We cultivate this philosophy, we set trends, we

influence tastes; but can there be pleasure from luxury, without conscience, kindness and compassion? All that remains for us is airtime, words, pages, social platforms, and the readers who trust us. So, what kind of performance will we give under this spotlight? Well, whatever play we hold on this stage, it is for everyone to decide for themselves.

The presentation of the oldest whiskey in the history of the Glen Grant distillery is the result of cooperation with artist John Galvin and master Brodie Nairn from Glasstorm. The seven-faced crystal work of art, as well as the drink itself, is a tribute to Queen Elizabeth II and to the seven decades of her reign. The closure of each carafe is made of silver and is decorated with an individual floral motif. The first decanter boasts a unique engraving of The Queen Elizabeth Rose.

ady Oxana Girko, almost a year has passed since our last meeting. We are happy to meet you again. Your business schedule was lavish for unprecedented pro­ jects and initiations regarding the science for environmental sustainability. What have you already managed to bring into life?

One of the biggest projects and initiations during 2023 is definitely a partnership with the foundation of HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco. With this new impact private equity fund, we aim to create a great product that will achieve a high positive impact on the ocean. The global ocean produces 50% of Earth’s available oxygen; the ocean provides critical ecosystem services indispensable to live on Earth: $2,5 trillion direct contribution to the global economy; 3,2 billion people rely on food from the sea; 93% of heat from anthropogenic GHG emissions has been absorbed by the Ocean; coral reefs offer new medicines for cancers, arthritis, Alzheimer’s and heart disease. But the ocean in its vital contributions is in peril: the ocean is highly polluted, 9-14 m tons of plastic flow annually to the ocean. More than 1/3 of stocks are overfished. At 2°C of warming, 99% of coral reefs could be lost. The fund will invest into the major sectors like reducing key sources of pollution, transforming the way we produce blue food, mitigating climate change through a better use of the ocean, protecting marine ecosystems and critical services they provide. As the president of the world plastics association I had an honour to work with the great scientists from more than 100 countries. For the impact committee of the Reocean fund, I had an ho­nour to select few of the best candidates amongst the scientists who have worked with my charity foundation, for example, professor Kim Ragaert from Maastricht university whose research topics include concepts of quality for recycling, the effects of contaminations and degradation etc. The Reocean fund will play a critical role in the ocean ecosystem: over 700 companies have been already identified as the investees.

Could you tell us please about your connection with HRH ­Princess Caroline Murat and the Royal Murat Dynasty in ge­ neral? It is a gratifying fact that the world is witnessing the joint commencements with HRH Princess.

I am a Godmother of HSH Prince Alexander Romanov. HRH Prince Joachim Murat is a Godfather of HSH Prince Alexander Romanov. Since HSH Prince Alexander Romanov’s baptising we realised how many connections exist between our lineages.

There are 8 Godparents of HSH Prince Alexander Romanov: Prince Mikhail Orlov, Princess Olga of Savoy & Greece, HRH Prince Joachim Murat, Prince Stéphane Belosselsky-Belozersky, Princess Ekaterina Lopukhina, Hélène Kirby y Bagration, Yulia Abrosimova. Centures ago all these dynasties participated in horse breeding for Russian Empire in 17th-19th centuries.

Part of my lineage, the Austrian-German ancestors, Hoffmann dynasty, the most famous horse breeders at that time, were invited to The Russian Empire by Catherine the Great to breed new types of horses. Later Count Aleksey Orlov developed the famous Orlov Trotter by crossing Russian Siberian horses

(strong for the cold Siberian climate) and Arabic horses (the speediest ones) to produce healthy, hardy horses with the constitution to survive the local climate. Next century Grand Duke Dmitry Romanov established another stud farm. All these dynasties were the friends at those centuries, including Murat dynasty and Belosselsky-Belozersky dynasty (Dmitry Romanov lived in their palace even), Lopoukhin dynasty. During the Russian revolution in 1917 a lot of aristocratic people were killed, some managed to migrate. My ancestors were forcibly relocated to Kazakhstan uninhabited lands, where they continued horse breeding and established the first stud farm in Middle Asia and the first Agricultural College in Kazakhstan. Marshal Budyonny, USSR military commander and a cavalryman, has chosen the horses for his army, developed by my ancestors in Kaza­ khstan. Another connection of my dynasty and Murat dynasty is music. Princess Caroline Murat Haffner, a world famous pianist, the descendant of Sigmund H ­ affner, Mayor of Salzburg and a friend of Wolfgang Amadeus ­Mozart, is my dear friend. I play piano too, but not professionally like Princess Caroline, of course. We both love music and art, especially we love playing Mozart and Chopin. I am a member of les Amis committee du Gstaad Music Festival founded by Princess Caroline. General de Gaulle called Caroline as “un grand espoir de la France”, a great hope for France. Caroline’s mother Martha H ­ affner and my ancestors were living in Salzburg and Vienna, they were friends as they were completely involved into cultural life. One of my Austrian ancestors was a composer as well. The Revolution of 1917 separated our dynasties. And after 100 years life reconnected those dynasties again. New generations made a knot as the Godparents of HSH Prince Alexander Romanov.

Life is full of surprises and brings back people together in spite of revolutions and wars. We understand this power and wisdom of life as our duty and service for humanity, for this planet. Together we develop new charitable projects worldwide and support talented children and people in need.

You became great friends with HRH Princess Yasmine ­Murat, too. What contributed to the formation of this beau­ tiful friendship?

We met at the royal wedding of common friends. HRH Princess Yasmine is a wonderful human being, a very beautiful lady, an amazing friend, a very supportive wife for her husband HRH Prince Joachim Murat and a great mother for their son Prince Joachim Murat 10th. HRH Princess Yasmine Murat and me have similar life principles. Our human qualities, our ideas as well as charitable projects made us close friends.

The New Year holidays are approaching. What are your asso­ ciations related to the most anticipated holiday of the year?

As I lived in many countries and I have an experience of dif­ ferent cultures, I like to bring into my life the best traditions from other parts of the world. For example, living in Kaza­ khstan, I remember how my father was making the ice-rink for children and the ice-slides. My dad was an architect and he loved building and constructing something interesting for

kids. My mother was involved into decorating the ice-rink and our home of course! We always spent time creating a festive menu and having a dinner to say “goodbye” to the previous year remembering all the best happened during the year. And we appreciate the upcoming year and we make wishes for the new year. We used to dance, to sing, to play games and would skate and slide. The best moments during the celebration when it was snowing at midnight! A real Christmas, a real New Year celebration! I took a lot from this tradition into my own family as well, for my children. We love giving gifts after midnight, opening and reading Christmas cards, giving calls to our beloved ones, friends. I like making surprises, - so, I hide written predictions in the deserts, on a Christmas tree. For me Christmas and New Year is a real magic, with a lot of smiles of dear people around, wonderful decorations and amazing Christmas tree toys, favourite delicious food, gifts and a lot of happiness.

If we are in a place where there is no snow, - we like to decorate our Christmas tree with the artificial snow and fragrances.

Every Christmas we start in the morning with the prayers and eating a special food - a very traditional fruits and grain to express our love to the Holy Spirit and bless everyone in our life.

We go to the church in the evening or do the prayers at home.

Afterwards we start celebration. Next day is a time to meet friends and to enjoy the best moments together.

Your Royal Highness Prince Joachim Murat, Prince de Ponte Corvo, your family is a part of the imperial house of France.

Can you explain to us your links with Emperor ­Napoleon I, Emperor Napoleon III and other European royal families?

Joachim Murat I married Caroline Bonaparte, sister of Empe­ror ­Napoleon I. Thus, he entered the imperial family and became a French Prince. Joachim also became grand admiral of France, marshal of the empire, Grand Duke of Berg, Prince of the Holy Roman Empire and King of Naples and Sicily. Napoleon I is, therefore, the brother-in-law of Joachim Murat and Napoleon III is his nephew. After the First Empire, the ­Murat princes made numerous marriages into European royal families; particularly in the royal family of Bavaria (the Wittelsbach, to which Empress Sissi belongs), the royal family of Germany (the Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen), the royal family of France (the Orléans) and the royal family of Georgia (the Dadiani). From there, all the royal families of Europe and more particularly of Greece,

Romania, Hungary, Sweden, and Luxembourg, as well as the imperial family of Russia are directly linked to the M ­ urat ­family.

How many generations separate you from Murat and ­Napoleon?

I am the future 9th Prince Murat, my son will be the 10th Prince Murat, but there are only 7 generations that separate me from Emperor Napoleon the First.

The founder of your dynasty, Joachim Murat, was the great­ est horseman in the army of Napoleon I and one of his most important marshals. Is it a military tradition that has re­ mained in the family?

Yes. All of Joachim Murat’s descendants have served in the French army since the Napoleon Empire. During the 2nd Empire the future 4th Prince Murat was General of the guides of the imperial guard, he fought in the campaigns of Mexico, Crimea, Italy and, of course, at the battle of Sedan. During the First World War the 6 sons of the 5th Prince Murat were at the front. The 6th prince Murat fought at Verdun. His son, the 7th Prince Murat, was killed by the Nazis in 1944 in the French resistance at the age of 24. I served in Kosovo in a parachute regiment, and I hold the Combatant’s Cross.

In addition to being a great military leader, Murat was ap­ parently a man with very refined artistic taste. Could you please tell us more about it?

Joachim and Caroline were great art lovers. Their collection was one of the finest in Europe under the First Empire. Murat in Naples played an important role in the reform of opera and lyrical arts. He and his wife Caroline discovered and launched Rossini’s career. They completely changed the European fashion of the lyrical arts by putting an end to the use of castrati in favour of tenors and baritones. Murat wrote poems and the stylistic quality of these correspondences led to his being selected by the great French writer Alphonse de Lamartine as a “forgotten writer of French literature”.

Your Royal Highness Princess Yasmine Murat, please tell us how your friendship with Lady Oxana Girko was born.

Joachim and I met Oxana for the first time at the royal wedding of our common friends We then crossed paths at other events, which allowed us to form a beautiful relationship of friendship and complicity. Oxana came with her family to our wedding at Les Invalides in Paris. It was a beautiful memory.

You designed your pre-wedding and wedding tiaras your­ self, as well as you participated in making your wedding dress together with the designer, inspired by the court dresses of the First Empire. What is the relationship of your family and yours with the creative world of luxury and that of fashion?

Napoleon I and Empress Joséphine, as well as Joachim and ­Caroline Murat, King and Queen of Naples and Sicily, all had surely refined tastes. This helped launch new trends in fashion, decoration and art. Chaumet, for example, is very close to the family. When N ­ apoleon was crowned Em-

This notably allowed Nitot, who founded Chaumet, to start his way in fine jewellery; the whole family placed orders for high-value jewellery from him. Other houses like Melle­ rio dits Meller or Breguet had also benefited from considerable orders from members of the family. Caroline Bonaparte Murat is Breguet’s biggest customer up to date, from whom she purchased 35 watches and clocks. Moreover, it was at the special request of Caroline that Abraham Louis Breguet to designe the first wristwatch in the world (we see it in the archives). To pay tribute to her, the Breguet house has been producing a line of watches called “Reine de Naples” inspired by the very first model for several years. Caroline was, therefore, a woman of innovative taste, she was called the “Queen of the Arts”, she is the person to whom we owe the development of Pompeii and the possession of the famous painting “The Grande Odalisque”

Before reigning over Naples, the M ­ urats bought the Elysée Palace which they completely restored with the finest French know-how. Since their departure until today, the Elysée, now the Presidential Palace, has not changed. At the end, I would like to mention another example: later under the Second Empire, Empress Eugénie, the wife of Napoleon III, encouraged Louis Vuitton, a friend of hers who was in charge of packing her wardrobe, to open his own brand. His small business has now become an empire known all over the world.

Queen Rania brought Elie Saab Couture to Paris. So it is a royal choice, too.

What projects are you involved in? Which are close to your heart?

I have not only a lot of associative, but also professional commitments. I am the President of the Association pour le Rayonnement français, which acts under the High Patronage of the President of the Republic and with the support of Brigitte Macron, annually organizes the Grand Prix du Rayonnement Français at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. I am also Godmother of the Eugène ­Napoléon Foundation, an institution cre­ ated by Empress Eugénie to accommodate poor and orphaned young girls. My role is to help the Foundation find patrons for the maintenance of its historic buildings located in the heart of Paris. Finally, I am the chairwoman of an Endowment Fund whose mission is to help hospitalised children to be cured through art (Art therapy).

As for my professional activity, I still work in defense and security technologies however my creative side is starting to take precedence. After making children’s books with my sister and designing the tiaras and the dress for my wedding, I feel that I need to move more towards artistic and creative projects.

Moreover, we can say that I am now a designer of objects and concepts because I have for some time received proposals for artistic cooperation with major houses for very interesting projects which I will reveal soon.

How is Christmas celebrated at the Murat family?

Christmas is an important holiday in our country, especially since the time when Napoleon ordered December 25 to be a public holi­day in France. It’s a day that we celebrate with family or friends at each other’s homes, whether in Paris or in castles in the countryside. It is an opportunity to receive the positive emotions and gather around a good meal with the obligation for everyone to bring “joy” as a gift.

Your Royal Highness Princess Caroline Murat, what genera­ tion of the Murat dynasty do you belong to? What feelings overcome you being from the Murat family?

I am of the 6th generation of the Murat dynasty. My father being born in 1898, was Godson of Empress Eugénie. He was a great aviator and hero of the First World War receiving the Legion ­D’Honneur “au combat” (earned during fights) and the Victoria Cross. At the young age of 18, he was amputated of a leg after being shot by the Goering Squadron from the German Luftwaffe with severe consequences. I am very proud of my ancestors; from Joachim, the greatest cavalry man of the 19th century, a great king, and his brilliant wife Caroline, to our days fantastic young Prince Joachim Murat and his wife Yasmine. I would like to put an emphasis that Queen Caroline in Naples did a lot in a rather short time. Amongst her numerous and stunning achievement is restart of the archeological researches in Pompeii and Herculaneum - following on that of the Egyptian campaign of her brother. She also wonderfully relaunched Capo di Monte, the artifact of Coral in Torre del G ­ reco, Teatro di San Carlo - Napoli - giving the most successful opera cre­ ations and productions to that. She has been a great patron of the Arts in general enriching the Palazzo Reale Milano collections with the most important artworks of her time. Books on all matters showing the universality of her intellectual interests enhanced the library of the palazzo. Being a descendant of such flamboyant historical personages obliges you to be at your best in your own field. I have been faithfully trying.

Oxana is the dearest of all the friends. We met at the house of a common friend and it immediately came clear to me that she was an exceptional and wonderful human being. She is a music lover and now a great patron of my 18th Gstaad New Year Music Festival based in Switzerland.

Yes, you are President of Altezze e Musica and Artis­ tic Director of the Gstaad New Year Music Festival, which will be held from December 27, 2023 to January 9, 2024 under the patronage of Prince Albert of Monaco as Gstaad and Monaco are officially befriended cities. The 18th edition is another amazing and remarkable event in the world of art. What is the epoch of the festival?

During this festival, where many operatic stars are coming - being friends - we especially help fantastic and exceptional young talents. This is also what has striked Oxana Girko being moved by her passion for music. Being myself a pianist with a long

soloist career, I was the first western European to be invited to the Tschaikovsky Conser­ vatory and to participate to the Tschaikovsky Competition. Music is my life. Concerning my long time dedication to music it came clear after co-founding the Verbier Academy at the Verbier Festival where I work for 20 years - discovering new talents, helping them and giving them the chance to meet the greatest teachers -, that diffusing music was the most important achievement for me. I am confident of the importance of sharing what speaks most directly to the soul… music!

And in these terrible times I am more than ever convinced of it! This year in my festival musicians from Ukraine, Russia, Israel and Egypt are performing together.

God endows you to be a brilliant musi­ cian and to have a gold heart. Your chari­ table contribution is almost unlimited.

From a very young age after winning international competitions and playing all over the world in the greatest concert hall including in Kazakhstan on the invitation of Aiman Musakhodjaeva I tried to do my best to have a fruitful professional life.

Rapidly it came clear to my mind that what God gave me - a special talent - oblige me to help around. Since youth I have been playing graciously for charity, associations or helping directly young talents. I have worked for Mrs. Giscard d’Estaing (the wife of the French President) charitable foundation for 10 years, as well as many years for Professeur Khayat Cancer Fund amongst others. I crossed Africa for many times raising money for several diseases as “river blindness” and for several hospitals in the bush in Malawi and other neighbouring countries. HSH Prince Albert II sent me to Namibia to help his orphanage in need. The list of my charitable commitments is too long and includes many other projects!

What is the royal Christmas for you?

Christmas is the most beautiful time of the year giving us hope that the world will be better, filled with love and compassion. I am trying with my children and grandchildren who come to see me in the mountain to live for a while that dream by sharing kindness with others.

Iris herself stated that she would make every effort to ensure that the event continues to influence world culture.

DIDIER CASNATI THE GYPSY QUEENS The Gypsy Queens is an international band formed in Nice by Didier Casnati. They play a large repertoire of multi-lingual covers, with a rich vocal style. Although their albums feature music legends and world famous actors, they are first and foremost a performing band and the pioneers of "roaming" or "strolling" type of performances. “Life was tough, and I was made homeless, and busking was a means of survival since I only had myself to count on,” says Didier Casnati.

Busking with Beckham, Beyonce & Blackpink Busking may be as organic as a live music experience gets and with busking in Didi’s blood, will we see him surprise commuters with an impromptu performance at London’s St Pancras International station with Beckham followed by a follow-up country Busking tour with the likes of Beyonce, Blackpink and Coldplay in the UK, US or Asia soon?, he laughs, “I actually played football with David Beckham in the Maldives when he was on holiday with his family.

“I mean I would love to busk with David and Chris Martin together as long as we’re not busking football, ” and the Grammy-dominating Queen Bee that is Beyonce Knowles-Carter, “that would be a dream come true,” he smiles, and what about K-pop sensation Blackpink a group that has become one of K-pop’s biggest acts and a global force to be reckoned with who were entertained by none other than King Charles III at a banquet in Buckingham Palace.

“Absolutely! he beams, Jeannie Kim’s Jazz performance of ‘You and Me’ is out of this world and would be a great collaboration to perform together when they tour Miami or Seoul since the boys and I have never been to Korea.”

ictoria, can you tell us how the concept for your project came to be? How did you decide to fuse the art of theatre with gastronomy?

Victoria Strekalina: The joy of being an entrepreneur lies in bringing bold visions to life. Sometimes, it’s those seemingly wild ideas that turn out to be iconic. I’ve always aimed to be at the cutting edge, pushing boundaries in whatever I undertake. My business ethos has always seen cuisine as an art form, ripe for blending into any domain. Before the inception of our immersive Gastro Show, I ran a successful catering business for over a decade. Within just two years, we rose to be industry frontrunners, consistently ranking among the top three in our region. What set us apart wasn’t merely the gourmet food we served but the creative flair we infused into it.

A decade ago, we began tailoring our dishes to specific events. Take, for example, a LEGO-themed children’s party where our treats and décor emulated recognisable LEGO shapes. For a project inspired by the Northern Lights, we conjured up an icy frappe presentation, shimmering in hues of blue, purple, and green. Even serving fish was transformed to encapsulate the spirit of the North. Our commitment to imaginative presentation and intricate details was that for this particular project even our menu was encased in ice. Such innovations quickly got us noticed, solidifying our leadership position. The desire to intertwine culinary artistry with other fields, especially theatre, has always been strong in me. I’m captivated by the world of theatre and often find it a rich source of inspiration for my ventures. But I always yearned for more, which drove me to establish my theatre — a space where I could bring my myriad creative concepts to life, seamlessly merged with delectable dishes. The

85 idea of utilising a theatrical narrative to elevate a meal into a performance, echoing the theatrical theme within each dish, has been deeply inspiring. Just as theatre engages audiences on multi-sensory levels, our Gastro Show aims to tantalise all five senses, offering an unparalleled gastronomic experience.

Let’s delve a bit deeper into the individuals behind this ex­ hilarating project. Could you tell us more about yourself and your team?

Anton Dorogobed: As the producer responsible for all the comprehensive organisational and technological solution for the project, my skills and enthusiasm transform our shows into vibrant and unforgettable experiences. Victoria Strekalina is the founder and executive producer of the project. Her role involves shaping comprehensive concepts and ensuring a harmonious blend of the script, show elements, and culinary presentation. She acts as a connecting link between the two worlds to provide a cohesive style and impression for our guests. Igor Glyanenko is our commercial partner, handling the business aspects and aiding in the successful launch of the show. His expertise and professionalism not only furnish the commercial component of the project but also contribute to its flourishing. Vagan Saroyan is our talented director, whose professional career and acting talent breathe life into any event, infusing it with meaning. Then, there’s Lyubov Shevkun. As our Operations Director, she is capable of bringing any idea to life. Katya Reshetnikova and Vitaliy Savchenko are our gifted choreographers who are setting new benchmarks in the dance industry. They create distinct and incredibly colourful dance numbers for our

Victoria, can you elaborate on the primary concept and idea behind your project?

Victoria Strekalina: The “WHAT ELSE” project is not just a dinner or lunch event. It’s an art form that captivates all our senses, allowing guests to immerse themselves in a mesmerising world of flavours, scents, and captivating narratives. We offer unique experiences that engage all five senses: sight, hearing, smell, touch, and taste. From November 21 to March 8, we have scheduled 68 shows over 34 evenings. Our format grants a selected group of guests not just the role of spectators but also the privilege of becoming active participants in an enthralling storyline. We’re crafting a multi-dimensional experience, which includes a wow-factor, interaction between guests and performers, savouring exquisite dishes, appreciating beautiful music, dances, and drama.

Every show is complemented by an impressive stage setup.

Interactivity is at the heart of our shows. Guests have the power to influence the progression of events, transitioning from mere audience members to active participants, interacting with both the performers and the food. This results in a myriad of emotions since the narrative’s direction often hinges on the guests’ involvement. Our performance also features musical and dance segments that intertwine with our inventive culinary presentations. For instance, in one of our shows, the audi­ence had the pleasure of savouring a salad descending from a chandelier, served in the form of spheres. These spheres were an integral part of that chandelier where, moments earlier, performers executed gymnastic

Igor, can you delve a bit deeper into who your show is intended for and its typical audience?

Igor Glyanenko: Our show primarily attracts connoisseurs of art and culture, those who value high-quality performances and experiences. It’s for people who have travelled extensively and are accustomed to specific gastronomic standards of quality and exclusive entertainment. Our show is perfect for a romantic dinner when there’s a desire to surprise a partner or a beloved one, celebrate an anniversary, or any other significant occasion.

Additionally, we are open to large corporate events and are ready to modify the show’s script to suit specific requests for business events, corporate gatherings, or presentations.

Igor, what intrigues you about gastro shows, and why did you specifically choose the UAE, Dubai in particular?

Igor Glyanenko: We see significant growth potential in the UAE and the MENA region as a whole. This region is rapidly developing and is gradually emerging as a global hub for tourism, culture, and art. Bearing this in mind, we are planning to launch new projects, tailoring them to cater to the interests of each country in the region.

In the near future, we plan to open a second show in Dubai, which will be not only an entertainment venture but certainly a cultural phenomenon, bridging people of various nationalities and backgrounds.

Jeremy and Shira Piven grew up in a family of theatre artists. This is their first collaboration as actor and Director. “This is not a typical World War II story,” says the director. “I was compelled to make this film because it is, at root, a contemporary story. Harold May is a man so desperate for success, he finds himself tap dancing as the world falls apart. Eventually, Harold is pressed to make choices as a human being, more specifically as a Jew, that connect him with an essential, perhaps buried, part of himself. We are absolutely thrilled to have our world premiere in Rome. We shot the film entirely in Europe, and have such an international cast and crew, I know this will feel like home.”

The Performance has been a true labour of love for Jeremy Piven who attributes his mother for presenting him with what he calls the role of his career. “My mother gave me Arthur Miller’s piece that appeared in The New Yorker and said ‘I think you would like the story and I can see you playing Harold.’ My sister Shira and I grew up in the theatre and embodied the work of playwrights. We come from a theatre family, both of our parents were actors, directors and teachers. My mom was my acting teacher since I was 8, and Shira is the best actor’s director I’ve ever worked with, so it became a family project.”

“It was an honour to inhabit Harold May,” Piven continues. “An actor lives for a brilliant piece to work with and this is a brilliant piece. I’ve been trying to make this film for 12 years, and being in

Italy, where some of the masters of film originated for its World Premiere, is extremely exciting. Tragically, this movie is incredibly relevant right now. But this is how I can contribute to the conversation; through storytelling and doing what I do. It is going to lead to a lot of conversations I can’t wait to have.”

Robert Carlyle is almost unrecognizable as the Nazi administrator, true to his Method roots. Many actors have played Nazis over the years and one of the defining lines in each character is how much good versus how much bad there is. “That’s what Arthur Miller does brilliantly well,” said Carlyle, “all of these characters are incredibly three dimensional. They’re what we call – arts-and-all characters, you see, and nothing is hidden.”

MOCAK MUSEUM OF CONTEMPORARY ART IN KRAKOW One of the main sightseeings

T

he Museum of Contemporary Art in Krakow MOCAK is located on the premises of the former Oskar Schindler factory in Krakow, adjacent to the Oskar Schindler’s Factory Museum.

The exhibition space enfolded the buildings, making use of the open area in between the buildings that had been made available to the Museum. This resulted in an irregular, sprawling form that itself became significant, enhancing the size of the exhibition space, stretching from the main entrance in Lipowa Street to the open space in the north at the back of the building. The south wall, on which the Museum logo is displayed, marks the beginning of the route. It was established in 2010 and it was in the same year that the first works found their way to the Collection. During the years of the Museum’s existence, they have succeeded in acquiring 5107 works (with 1215 distinct inventory numbers) by 333 Polish and international artists. One of the main aims of the expansion of the Collection is to achieve the Museum’s statutory objectives by collecting and presenting Polish art from the second half of the 20th

century against the background of world art. Just as important are the presentation of the main trends of contemporary art and popularisation of the achievements of the leading artists across diverse audiences.

The largest part of MOCAK Collection is the Potocka Gallery Collection, which was donated in two tranches, in 2011 and 2014.

It goes back to the 1970s and was involved in Maria Anna Potocka’s endeavour to establish a Museum of Contemporary Art in Krakow. The works comprised in the original Potocka Gallery Collection are the core of MOCAK Collection, around which it is being extended. Other donors include artists and collectors. In 2011, from Mikołaj Smoczyński’s heirs, MOCAK received a legacy of the artist’s works and an archive.

These are the artist’s both early and late paintings together with a photographic archive of several thousand negatives and prints. They change the arrangement of the Collection annually, combining the new exhibition with different issues. New works constitute at least half of each new edition. It is worthy visitng the museum to see the new contemporary artworks.

BETTER WORLD FUND THE 80TH EDITION OF THE VENICE FILM FESTIVAL

ince 2016, BWF, Better World Fund, a Paris-based non-profit organisation, has been organising prestigious international events and inspiring cultural programmes. This year again, in the sublime Palazzos of the Ca’ Sagredo Hotel and the Misericordia di Venezia, influential individuals from around the world were gathered. As stated by Manuel Collas de La Roche, President and Founder of Better World Fund: “… the BWF edition in Venice will celebrate women, and raise awareness about the place and power of women in the film industry… It is essential to continue supporting and encouraging the involvement of women in all aspects of the film industry in order to create a more equitable and inclusive society for all.” During gala evening, which took place on September 8 at La Scuola Grande Della Misericordia, in the presence of Isabelle Huppert, Jeremy Piven, the Soprano Joyce El-Khoury, many celebrities supported this commitment through their attendance, contributing their image to a cause

of Women Empowerment in the Image of Maria Callas. Symbolising this theme, Euzhan Palcy, a celebrated filmmaker, has been commemorated for her achievements. She received an honorary Oscar last November and was recognised as the first Black director to win the Silver Lion at the 1983 Venice Mostra. She further garnered a César Award for Best First Work, a historic achievement for a female and Black director. Recently, she was honoured with Medals of Honor from the Society of Dramatic Arts and Composers in France and the French National Assembly. The Better World Fund supported the Maria Callas Foundation, in honour of her centenary, the mission of which is to search and gather archives from all over the world in order to build a museum collection. Tom Volf, a leading expert on Maria Callas, highlighted the film he has just directed with Moni­ ca Bellucci, following the success of his last film “Maria by Callas” in 2017 which became an award-winning documentary and the most-watched French-produced film

in the world in 2018. On September 8 at 10am, at La Scuola Grande Della Misericordia, the Better World Fund held a Masterclass Conference titled: “From Script to Screen: Empowering Women in the World of Cinema”. “…The cinema industry … encourage women’s emancipation. This helps to create a more egalitarian and inclusive society ...” said Manuel Collas de La Roche, President.

The masterclass moderated Mrs. Elisabeth Moreno, President of Tech-Foundation, Former Minister in charge of Gender Equality, Diversity and Equal opportunities. PANEL: “Empowering Women in the World of Cinema”, was held with the exceptional participation of Nadia Fares, Yasemin Samdereli, Kiera Chaplin, Tarina Patel, Valentina Castellani. Italian superyacht and architectural studio, Luca Dini Design and Architecture, presented the latest venture, Sindalah, an exclusive luxury island resort in the Red Sea, a key component of the Sindalah, The Islands of NEOM, a project in Saudi Arabia. With major infrastructure and development across the Gulf in recent years, and new marinas constructed in Saudi Arabia, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Qatar, and the wider region, there was a panel of experts if these new facilities have been

Case Study was 69m Vripack/Vitters Project Zero. Commissioned three years ago to develop a sailing yacht with entirely fossil-free operation, the presentation explored the evolution of Project Zero and its impact on the yachting sector.

Monday to Thursday business meetings in PHOENIX2, on Friday a 6-hour executive board meeting at the company’s GLOBAL HQ, and next week the same again, jetting from one meeting to the next – always AVANTI, AVANTI! And then finally: Vacations with my family. A week off, just us: my wife VALERIE and our kids. What a contrast, what an OASIS of peace. Our son RONIN, an ACE in sports, in the CORAL OCEAN all day long – windsurfing, wakeboarding, kitesurfing. Our daughters AMADEA and TITANIA enjoying their school holidays on board the spacious yacht, too.

My wife and I, swimming in the main deck’s infinity pool, and later indulging in A+ quality dining. In the evenings, we’d go down to the cinema to watch movies, or we’d sit on deck, looking into the star-lit sky over the PACIFIC, just to wake up the next morning, pampered by the RISING SUN’s first warm beams.
