1960- The Death of the Plane The plane is a concept created by man with a practical objective: to supply his needs of equilibrium. The square, an abstract creation is a product of the plan. Freely establishing its limits in space, the plane gives to man an entirely false and rational idea of his own reality. Therefore, opposed concepts like high and tall, right and left, contributes to destroy in man his sense of totality. That is the reason why man projected his transcendental side and named it God. Thus, he placed the problem of his existence creating the mirror of his own spirituality. The square came to have a magic meaning when the artist considered it as a vehicle of total vision of the universe. But the plane is dead. The philosophical conception with which man projected on himself no longer was satisfactory, such as an idea of a God external to man. Conscious that this was his own poetics projected outward, he understood at the same time the necessity to reintegrate this poetics as an indivisible part of his own person. It was also this introspection that made the rectangle explode from the painting. All in pieces we have swallowed the rectangle, we absorbed it. What happened before was that when the artist was in front of the rectangle he would project himself against it, and doing that he would charge the surface with far reaching perspective. expression is to be conscious of unity as a whole, alive organism. We are a totality and now is the time to collect all the pieces of the kaleidoscopic in which the idea of man was broken and reduced to pieces. We dive in the wholeness of cosmos, we are part of it, vulnerable from all sides: the high, the lower, right, left, good, evil: all the concepts that can undergo transformation. Contemporary man escapes the laws of spiritual gravitation. He learns how to float in the cosmic reality as in his own inner reality. He is taken by a vertigo. His crutches falls far away from him. He feels like a child that must learn how to find equilibrium and balance in order to survive. The first experience has its start.
