A Modern Myth: The Instant a Nostalgia of the Cosmos
1965 – A Modern Myth: The Instant a Nostalgia of the Cosmos
Are we really so close to the end of everything? We should then, accept this end as such as it announces a new beginning. Modern man should keep himself away from the excess of rationalism that is in the heart of our thinking. If the last century brought the consciousness about the death of God, we feel now that in our time in man himself, that the death of individuality was giving a sense to his life. It is necessary to find a new meaning that can give back to man his wholeness. This new meaning cannot be – it’s because he lacks a deep reason to justify his own existence, having all the spiritual values that satisfied him before – man must take this position with himself with the whole independence he gained through this terrible loneliness. As the participator in the work ends with the gap between subjects, it is necessary that we absorb for ourselves this relation of subject-object to bring face to face the spiritual emptiness with no real meaning that surrounds. What before was an element of spiritual value today no longer makes sense. In this apparent emptiness, man has difficulty in seeing that the new field that is offered to him is a benefit, because this new field has not yet been made part of his life. The new is precarious the motionless values are surpassed. Now we have the act of making in itself and the instant that overcomes itself in the signification of the plain act. It is from the spiritual emptiness that a new meaning will appear. In it will be inscribed all possible alternatives, all the potential expression. Magic penetrates into life. Contemporary man behaves in the immediacy and more than in any other time he lives in the instant. COPYRIGHT ASSOCIAÇÃO CULTURAL «O MUNDO DE LYGIA CLARK»

A Modern Myth: The Instant a Nostalgia of the Cosmos
Now, the common man arrives at the position of the artist. Man has never been so close to his plenitude: he has no more excuses for metaphysics. There is nothing else left for him to build up projections of himself. He is free from irresponsibility. He can not even deny himself as a total being. No more kind of transference is possible. What is left to him is to live the present. At without art, as a new reality.
