West of Durban, Giba Gorge Mountain Bike Park is a renowned venue for events and competitions and once ridden will keep you coming back again and again! North of Durban Holla Trails invites you to ‘challenge your limits’ with over 340km’s of trails for both novice and experienced riders. Little Switzerland in the Drakensberg offers breathtaking views and lush indigenous forests, mountain streams, deep gorges and beautiful sunsets over the majestic Amphitheatre. There are a number of Ezimvelo KZN Wildlife protected areas that provide ideal cycling opportunities.In the Ukhahlamba Drakensberg Park and The Greater St Lucia Wetland Park also provides opportunities for mountain biking at False Bay and St Lucia Estuary.

The KZN MTB Commission is a volunteer organisation established in terms of the constitution of Cycling KZN, and is a subsidiary of Cycling KZN. Cycling SA reports to the Department of Sport and as such is accountable to the government of South Africa. The KZN MTB Commission comprises a number of commissioners that strive to administer the sport in the province in a responsible and professional way. Our primary goal is to manage mountain biking in KZN in accordance with the rules and regulations that have been developed over time, while promoting and adding value wherever possible. In KZN, ROAG (Race Organisers Admin Group) is the largest on-line portal that offers on-line entries, race information, seeding and general communications for riders in KZN.

GIBA GORGE MTB TRAIL We have a network of trails that traverse the valley in both directions with many link ups allowing a rider to flow from one trail into another. This allows you to create a different riding experience each time you hit the trails. If you ride all the marked trails without deviating you will clock up around 35km, but if you add in the many ‘link up’ trails you can extend this distance. All the trails (apart from the Purple Route) offer a variety of technical aspects and you can expect, rocks, roots, drops & tight switch backs. In summer the trails are more tacky and grip well whilst in winter with minimal rain, they can become a bit loose in corners. The Routes • The Purple Route is perfect for kids and first timers, and it is this trail where many a new biker starts out. • From here I would suggest the Green Route which allows for easier climbs and long flowing fun filled descents. • After this is the Blue Route, which is also the longest trail with the steepest climbs and tightest switchbacks, and is a really good training loop. • After this we have two advanced trails; The Downhill & the Enduro and these are short in distance but require advanced riding skills and are suited to bikes with more travel in their front shocks.
