to the countries of the East3Route: South Africa – KwaZulu-Natal Swaziland Mozambique and Seychelles.

The East3Route is an exciting initiative launched in September 2011 between KwaZulu-Natal - South Africa, Mozambique and Swaziland with Seychelles joining in 2013.

This ground-breaking initiative aims to share tourism marketing efforts for the benefit of all four countries and to showcase investment opportunities and improving infrastructure in order to boost tourism and trade between them.

The East3Route (E3R) Initiative symbolizes the beginning of a much more targeted approach to economic and tourism development in the alliance countries and in the SADC region as a whole. By attracting an increasing number of local and foreign visitors, the aim is to contribute to economic and tourism industry development.

The expedition has introduced an Investment seminar which has further enhanced this initiative. The seminar has played a significant role in the delivery of tangible results around economic development within the route, and encourages cross-border partnerships and investment.

The E3R includes five trans-frontier conservation areas and the iSimangeliso Wetland Park in Kwazulu-Natal, a World Heritage site that is attracting increasing numbers of local and foreign visitors.

KWAZULU-NATAL – ZULULAND & ELEPHANT COAST The Zulu Kingdom, or the South African province of KwaZulu-Natal, is a spectacular multi-cultural destination flanked by the warm Indian Ocean and the soaring peaks of the Drakensberg Mountains.

As South Africa’s domestic tourism leader and highly popular among visitors from throughout Africa, KwaZulu-Natal is increasingly on the “mustsee, must- do” lists of discerning travellers.

ZULULAND KWAZULU-NATAL The majestic Zululand Kingdom, is where Shaka Zulu built his Zulu nation with its rich cultural heritage and strong and proud traditions. Visitors are welcomed into the heart of Zulu villages to experience the culture, consult with a sangoma or watch a rural wedding ceremony and experience Zulu hospitality. THE LANGUAGE OF THE BEADS The earliest Zulu beads were made of organic materials such as seeds and seashells or ivory. They were coloured with dyes made from fruit, roots or mud. Through the ages, in addition to being objects of adornment, the most important aspect of Zulu beadwork was the message carried by these works of art.

The colours all have different meanings. White is associated with purity, pink with poverty, blue with loneliness and green with pining. Zulu maidens would send long involved messages to their loved ones weaving thoughts of love, grief or jealousy, poverty or uncertainty into their intricately patterned creations.

Zululand has much to offer the visitor, from comfortable accommodation in major towns to numerous Big Five game reserves that offer luxury lodges, bush camps or tented campsites as well as game-watching facilities and hiking and nature trails. The current price of rhino horn is approximately $90, 000 per kilogram, with an average horn weighing in at 3 kilograms. This makes rhino horn more valuable than platinum and gold combined per kilogram.

In 2009 Thula Thula Private Game Reserve took in two orphaned baby rhinos called Thabo (4 months old) and Ntombi (8 months old), and hand reared them until they were 18 months old. They were then released into the game reserve, under high surveillance with armed guards who watch over them day and night. They also, in October 2013, had their horns infused as a further measure to protect them. The THULA THULA RHINO ORPHANAGE will offer refuge to baby rhinos that lose their mothers to poachers. It comprises a fully equipped clinic to treat and care for up to 20 injured or orphan rhinos and 3 bomas where the orphans will be able to walk around in total security.

The rhino rooms will be equipped with webcams so that guests at Thula Thula two lodges will be able to observe the rhinos without disturbing them.

EMPANGENI Empangeni, situated in the heart of sugar cane country, is the centre of agriculture and commerce. A visit to the local museum offers an insight into the fascinating history of early sugar pioneers, who opened the first mill in 1911.

KWABULAWAYO – King’s Shaka’s homestead is just 20 minute drive from Empangeni and is of course of prime importance in Zulu cuture and history.

The 4500 ha private game reserve, situated only 45 minutes from Richards Bay harbour and airport, and less than 2 hours drive from Durban, is the oldest private game reserve in Kwazulu Natal. SHAKALAND is an exceptional cultural village located near Eshowe.

The VUKANI ZULU CULTURAL MUSEUM houses a collection of art based on traditional Zulu culture and handcrafts.

The 1000 hectare Umlalazi Nature Reserve makes this area a veritable haven for those wishing to ‘get away’ from the hustle and bustle of city life and a range of accommodation establishments and restaurants are available.

There are more than 300 recorded species of bird in the area, amongst which is the rare Palmnut Vulture. The annual migration of butterflies brings the surrounding bush to spectacular life.

ESHOWE The charming town of Eshowe is a treasure trove of history, culture and natural beauty set amongst undulating hills in the heart of the Zululand Birding Route. The town also has a long association with the Zulu kings of the past.

NONGOMA

A visit to Ulundi enables one to experience first-hand the customs, culture and traditions of the Zulu nation.

Derived from the Zulu word, ‘ngome’ meaning the ‘mother of songs’, Nongoma was originally established in 1888 as a buffer between two warring Zulu factions to try to establish peace in the area.

Attractions include: the site of King Cetshwayo’s capital in the ONDINI HISTORICAL RESERVE with the KwaZulu Cultural Museum, Mgungundlovu (capital of King Dingane), KWA GQOKLI HILL (a victory site of the warrior King Shaka), Ulundi Battlefields and Kwa Nodwengu (museum at King Mpande’s former royal residence).

Trained guides are available to ensure an informative experience.

Known as the ‘royal city’ of Zululand, Nongoma is the home of King Goodwill Zwelithini ka Bhekuzulu, the hereditary leader of the Zulu nation. His royal palaces are among the main tourist attractions in the area.

PAULPIETERSBURG Nestled between Piet Retief and Vryheid, this country town is recognised as a haven of history, health and homeliness.

EMAKHOSINI - VALLEY OF THE KINGS. Many royal Zulu ancestors including King Shaka lived, and were buried here, and the reconstruction of this area gives us a rare glimpse into the historic past of the Zulu dynasty. Shaka’s successor and half-brother, Dingane, established his Royal Residence in the eMakhosini and it was here where he clashed with the Voortrekkers who sought new lands in the Zulu Kingdom. The valley also contains the Hill of Execution, kwaMatiwane, where Dingane’s men put Voortrekker leader Piet Retief and his followers to death.

There are several other sacred, ancient places in the valley such as Nobamba, the homestead of Shaka’s grandfather Jama, which is also referred to as “the most sacred site” and “the place of unity and strength”. Also situated nearby is Makheni, a hallowed spot where men are not permitted to strike or even touch the ground with their sticks, lest they disturb the spirits of their ancestors.

Once a year, usually in early September, thousands of people make the long journey to KwaNyokeni Palace where young Zulu maidens take part in a colourful cultural festival, THE ROYAL REED DANCE – or Umkhosi woMhlanga in the Zulu language.

The MONA MARKET and FIRST FRUIT CEREMONY, are also traditional events that can be attended by the public.

uPHONGOLO is situated in a valley in the foothills of the majestic Lebombo Mountains and is an area rich in Anglo, Zulu and Boer history. Follow in the steps of King Shaka and his impis through the valleys of Pongola, Magudu and Maputaland.

Between 1836 and 1852, Zulu warriors clashed with Boer settlers. Some years later the might of the British military was hurled against the Zulu nation. During the Anglo-Zulu War of 1879, and the independent Afrikaner movements twice took up arms against the British Empire - first from 1880 to 1881 and then for three years during the Anglo-Boer War (1899-1902).

The tranquil hills and grasslands of Zululand carry many a famous battle scar. The largest concentration of battle sites in South Africa are to be found in northern KwaZulu-Natal.

ZULULAND’S HERITAGE ROUTE 66 Zululand’s Route 66 between GINGINDLOVU and UPHONGOLO - follows one of the oldest trade routes through Zululand. Settlers resident in Port Natal in the early 19th Century would set off in oxwagons on wellworn tracks and cross into Zululand at a drift very close to the present N2 bridge over the Thukela River.

The merchandise their wagons carried, as they forded the Thukela River into Zululand, included cotton and lambswool blankets, calico cloth, brass and copper wire, and coloured glass beads. Other commodities such as pick handles were not uncommon, and sometimes a gun or some gunpowder might be smuggled in to enhance profits.

During their trips which would last up to three months, the traders hunted and bartered and on their return journey, if all went well, they would return to Port Natal with their wagons filled with ivory, buffalo

The Birding Route is helping create a new career path for young South Africans from disadvantaged communities through training as birding guides. Individuals are selected from communities neighboring the birding spots for training, and through ongoing

Following in these same paths soon after them, in ever increasing numbers, were the missionaries, transport riders, then soldiers, colonial administrators, police, settlers and farmers.

MTUBATUBA Mtubatuba, located about 200 km north of Durban, began as a railway siding in 1903 and was named after the local Zulu chief. The town was established in 1916 with the building of the first sugar mill, a shop, bank and hotel. Today Mtubatuba has become a commercial and administrative centre for the entire North Eastern Zululand region, with the iMfolozi Sugar Mill, part of Illovo Sugar group, the industrial flagship of Mtubatuba.

HLUHLUWE The Hluhluwe region is home to Africa’s oldest game reserve. Once the exclusive royal hunting grounds of King Shaka, Hluhluwe/iMfolozi offers an astonishing kaleidoscope of viewing options.

SODWANA BAY

Rated as one of the world’s top 10 dive destinations, Sodwana Bay is an underwater paradise less affected by global warming than reefs further north.

Sodwana Bay is renowned for scuba diving, deep sea and shoreline fishing and has long stretches of beach hugged by un-spoilt coastal forests.

Here we find beautiful hard and soft coral alive with over 1200 species of fish in addition to a wide variety of marine life. There are Humpback Whales, Ragged Tooth Sharks, Whale Sharks, Tiger Sharks, Manta Ray and Giant Morays to name a few. It was near here in the deep Jesser Canyons offshore of Sodwana that the Coelacanth was discovered in 2000.

MKUZE

Considered one of the Zulu kingdom’s birding hotspots, the beautiful area around Mkuze has recorded over 420 species.

The Mkuze Game Reserve is home to the Black and white rhino, leopard, elephant, giraffe, hippo

and crocodile. Vegetation is mainly flat and dry which is excellent for game viewing. Secluded bush camps offer visitors a superb wilderness experience.

Where the Mkuze River passes through the Lebombo Mountains, a stony peak stands 529m high called uTshaneni. European settlers called it Ghost Mountain with its haunted history of a fierce battle where Zibhebu and his warriors were forced to flee from Dinizulu and the heavy rifle fire of 800 European frontiersmen whom he had enlisted.

Other attractions include Border Caves where the first inhabitants of this region took residence some 200 000 years ago. Some of the oldest evidence of anatomically-modern Homo sapiens and tiger fishing at Jozini Dam. The elephant reserves at Tembe and Ndumu are home to the last truly wild elephant herds in South Africa.

BIG GAME PARKS (BGP)

Big Game Parks (BGP) is a non-profit trust which manages three game reserves in Swaziland: HLANE ROYAL NATIONAL PARK, MLILWANE WILDLIFE SANCTUARY AND MKHAYA GAME RESERVE. Located less than 1.5hr drive away from each other, take the unique opportunity to view three distinct habitats, home to a wide range of flora and fauna including the Big 5, within a manageable time-frame.

A wide range of activities, accommodation and dining options to suit all budgets and preferences are available. Sondzela Backpackers, Reilly’s Rock Hilltop Lodge and BGP’s horse trailing arm; Chubeka Trails, are located within Mlilwane. Visit the forerunner of Swazi conservation whose mission, since 1969, is to conserve Swaziland’s natural heritage.

REILLY’S ROCK, the former home of Mickey Reilly, is steeped in history and features an up-market lodge offering six en suite rooms, as well as an additional self-catering 7-sleeper cottage ‘Down Gran’s Cottage’ also situated in the botanical gardens.

Wander the hillside trails, view the game which includes Blue Duiker and Suni, or relax on the terraced lawns and take in the spectacular views.

Begin the day with a pre-adventure breakfast on the sun deck before hiking or driving down to make use of the many activities available at Mlilwane Rest Camp. In the evening, share stories and sundowners around the campfire, followed by a dinner prepared and served by friendly Swazi hosts and don’t forget to say hello to the resident Bush babies.

MKHAYA GAME RESERVE, named after the Acacia nigrescens tree found in the reserve, is located in the southeast of Swaziland, the heart of the lowveld. This magnificent unspoilt wilderness is haven to endangered species which roam the magnificent African bush and home to 4 of the Big 5 including Black Rhino. Visitors can also spot the pure Swazi Nguni Breed of Cattle, Roan & Sable Antelope, Tsessebe, White Rhino, Elephant, Giraffe, Buffalo, Hippo, Crocodiles and exquisite birdlife including the elusive Narina Trogon to name just a few of the wildlife highlights.

After a day out in the hot African bush, return to a bird-rich riverine forest camp and enjoy an ice-cold drink beneath the giant sausage tree before retiring to a unique and luxurious semi-open stone and thatch cottage to drift off to sound of the bush.

Entry to the park must be booked in advance and guests are met at the pick-up point at either 10am or 4pm according to their package itinerary. A trip to Mkhaya is a trip into Real Africa - a soul enriching, quality experience you’ll never forget.

MLILWANE WILDLIFE SANCTUARY is Swaziland’s pioneer conservation area and a beautiful, secluded sanctuary situated in the Kingdom’s EZULWINI VALLEY, ‘VALLEY OF HEAVENS’. Located between Mbabane and Manzini, 24hr gate access is offered to the Sanctuary enabling guests to enjoy the neighbouring tourist hubs of Ezulwini and Malkerns with their many unique attractions and craft shops.

Archaeology also falls under the SWAZILAND NATIONAL TRUST COMMISSION; the archaeology department, in the past, has been responsible for excavations at various locations in the country. Adjoining the offices is the NATIONAL MUSEUM which traces stepby-step the history, art and cultural artifacts of the Swazi people.

• Also at Lobamba is the EMBO STATE PALACE, generally used to meet visiting dignitaries. Only authorised persons may approach or photograph it.

• THE SOMHLOLO STADIUM at Lobamba is used for soccer matches and concerts as well as for the annual Independence celebration of the colourful Reed Dance ceremony held in late August / early September every year.

Between Lobamba and the Royal Swazi Sun complex at Ezulwini, on the Mbabane/Manzini road, is the turn-off to the MANTENGA FALLS AND MANTENGA CRAFT.

With its peak at 1110m, Nyonyane is where ancient Bushmen once lived and where Swazi Royal graves are situated giving historical significance. Ancient stories are often told how this magnificent peak acquired its name.

Swazi’s suspected of witchcraft or criminals were forced to walk off the edge at spearpoint for their crimes.

The distinctive twin-peaks, SHEBA’S BREASTS, are clearly visible from the Malagwane Hill as the traveler descends from Mbabane into the Ezulwini Valley. The rock formations are named after the legendary beauty and mysterious Queen of Sheba from Ethiopia, who supposedly seduced King Solomon. The author J. Rider Haggard, who traveled through Swaziland as secretary to Sir Theophilus Shepstone in the 1880s, was inspired by the peaks and it is believed that he wrote his famous “King Solomon’s Mines” while staying at the private Kapola Estate. His lesser-known novel “She” was also inspired by the Queen of Sheba. Legend tells that Sheba’s Breasts are the site of King Solomon’s mines.

LUBOMBO REGION This region takes its name from the line of flat-topped mountains that form Swaziland’s eastern border with Mozambique. Apart from those mountains, the region is lowveld, characterized by vast sugar estates, served by towns such as Big Bend and Siteki.

MBABANE Mbabane is Swaziland’s capital and largest city with a population of around 100,000. Located on the Mbabane River and its tributary the Polinjane River in the Mdimba Mountains, the average elevation of the city is 1243 meters making for a more moderately humid, subtropical climate. The city derives its name from a CHIEF MBABANE KUNENE, who lived in the area when British settlers arrived.

The current town dates back to 1887 and the area rapidly became part of the transport route from the Transvaal to Mozambique- later known as Ndelakayomi (path never empty) due to heavy traffic. A Bombardier Mickey Wells, is recorded as being the first European settler who opened a primitive hotel, restaurant and store in the area.

Mbabane was founded in 1903 when Swaziland fell under British protection and the new government opted for the cooler climate of the Highveld.

North of Mbabane, the road to Luve is known as PINE VALLEY. Along here visitors can view a series of waterfalls on the BLACK UMBELUZI RIVER and the granite heights of “SIBEBE ROCK”.

The GREEN CHILLI RESTAURANT boasts one of the poshest dining rooms in town and the Thai menu here is also one of the more diverse and interesting.

THE MALOLOTJA NATURE RESERVE lies to the west of the road and you can view the Malolotja Falls, the highest in Swaziland.

LION CAVERN, situated at Ngwenya mine is the oldest mine in the world. Man first began chipping away at the iron ore of Ngwenya mountain over 43,000 years ago. The more modern mining of Ngwenya Mine was carried out from 1958 until 1979, in the form of open cast mining creating the dramatic mine pit currently still visible.

The word Ngwenya is siSwati for crocodile and the mountain does resemble a huge basking reptile.

Ngwenya is also home to Swaziland’s most popular attraction – the NGWENYA GLASS factory and craft village.

They use waste newspaper as a very effective packaging material, re-uses grey water and has rainwater catchments for factory use. They also use purified old engine oil and KFC oil to fuel their furnaces. (Did you know that one litre of used oil, could contaminate one million litres of water?)

They have embarked on an indigenous treeplanting program in the area and they also organise environmental clean-up days to encourage schools to pick up litter in exchange for donations of building materials or sports kit etc.

For the past 25 years NGWENYA GLASS has paid a percentage of worldwide sales to the Mkhaya Game Reserve when they started the Ngwenya Rhino and Elephant Wildlife Fund in 1989.

They also support numerous orphanages and charities in Swaziland and South Africa and have an active HIV/AIDS policy and program.

SEYCHELLES The Seychelles Islands…another world In an overcrowded world that is becoming more polluted by the day, the Seychelles archipelago is fast gaining recognition for the integrity of its unique ecosystems. Almost half of the country’s landmass has been granted protected status as nature reserves. Since that distant time when Seychelles’ granite and coral islands became scattered over a secluded corner of the Indian Ocean, they have remained timeless sanctuaries for some of the rarest species of flora and fauna on earth.

THE GREAT OUTDOORS AND FANTASTIC CLIMATE IN SEYCHELLES ensures that there is just so much to do...

DREAM DIVING: THE SEYCHELLES ARCHIPELAGO Seychelles is a fabulous dive destination and the sheer beauty of these forgotten islands is overwhelming. There’s also plenty to keep non-diving partners happily occupied, with excellent sunbathing, snorkelling & swimming, fishing, sailing, a wealth of local excursions and an excellent network of walks & trails.

Napoleon Wrasse and the Giant Grouper as well as Reef Sharks and Ribbon-tailed Stingrays.

Seychelles has long been a haven for several species of sea turtle which are protected, as is the greatest fish of all - the whale shark - gentle giant of the oceans and regular visitor to Seychelles’ waters.

Diving the waters of the Outer Islands during the period of the northwest trades (October to May) holds the promise of spectacular cave and canyon dives at Desroches Island, colourful wall dives off Alphonse and - as the jewel in the crown - the current dive through the main artery feeding the Aldabra lagoon, UNESCO World Heritage Site and largest raised coral atoll on earth. Other atolls such as Poivre, St. Joseph, Astove and Cosmoledo also offer great diving sites and here is where to find armies of turtle, together with any of the 31 species of whale and dolphin found in Seychelles’ waters.

Diving is possible all year round but is still governed by an island’s position and by the prevailing winds. For seven months of the year, from October to May, the water temperature is around 29ºC and visibility can be over 30 metres!

The more southerly islands are close to the cyclone belt and during the months of December and January months, can experience extremely rough conditions on occasion.

From May through to September the winds blow south-easterly. This is the strongest wind season and causes the upwelling of plankton rich waters onto the plateau and the appearance of associated pelagics, such as the occasional Manta and Whale Sharks. Both visibility and temperature may drop during August with water temperatures around 24ºC, so a 5mm wet suit is the minimum requirement during this season, with a full dive suit an even better option.

Outer Island divers can also expect to see the spotted Potato Bass.

There are surprisingly few sharks around these islands although most divers can expect to see Grey Reef, Silver Tip and Nurse Sharks at some point with the odd sighting of a Hammerhead, cruising mostly at a distance.

On dives around the Inner-Islands with their imposing granite swimthroughs, channels, caverns, hideouts and spectacular wrecks, a diver may be surrounded by anything up to 800 different species of marine life.

Rare exotics such as the African Pygmy Angelfish are found regularly in easy diving depths off Astove. The cartoonlike Yellow Rubber-Lipped Sweetlips is another firm favourite while elusive Long-nosed Hawkfish can easily be found in most gorgonian fan areas.

Among Seychelles’ great Inner island dive sites is world-renowned Shark Bank with its legendary massive flat rocks and almost permanent schools of fish. There is also Marianne Island, a world-ranking shark dive famous for its population of grey reef shark and for the imposing granite pillars which adorn its striking underwater world. Another diver’s must is the wreck of the Ennerdale.

There are a number of live-aboard dive operators in Seychelles and also landbased ones whose dive centres are conveniently situated right on the beach. Most are members of PADI, the Professional Association of Diving Instructor.

The abundance of marine life of the Inner Islands is evident even on shallow inshore reefs where divers will find numerous different types of Butterfly and Angel fish. Granite reefs also support Soldier fish, Squirrel fish and Sweepers which like to hide under rock and coral ledges. These reefs are also havens for invertebrates including Octopus, Spiny Lobster and a plethora of Nudibranchs, such as the Spanish Dancer.

the southern hills of Mahé, with an optional detour to a small palm-lined valley, is one of the most popular. A number of guided walking tours are also available, with native Seychellois discoursing on the islands’ flora, fauna and local lore.

Should the idea of not getting wet at all simply appeal, there’s always the option of taking a glass-bottomed boat out over the reef, and admiring the underwater marine vistas from on board or cruising the azure seas around the island on a yacht.

GOLF - Praslin boasts a spectacular 18–hole championship golf course set amongst palm trees and forests.

FISHING - Big game and fly fishing is big business in the Seychelles. Top spot for big game is the edge of the Seychelles Bank, where the ocean floor plunges to 1,800 meters. The nearest islands are Bird and Denis, but charters also sail out from Mahé. Many record-breaking dog-tooth tuna have been snagged here, as well as huge marlin, sail fish and sharks without number. The best catches are usually between November and April.

The outer island of Alphonse is universally acknowledged as the best place to indulge in fly fishing for bonefish, which generally weigh around six kilos and are doughty fighters once hooked. A strict catchand-release policy is in force, and fly fishers may use only barbless hooks. The season runs from September to June.

HORSE RIDING - Both accomplished and novice equestrians will enjoy horse riding in the Seychelles. On La Digue, there’s the opportunity to explore the grounds of the Union Estate, or to experience the sheer exhilaration of galloping along the sand at Anse Source d’Argent. At the Utegangar Riding Centre on Mahé the pure-bred Arabian steeds head out to the Barbarons and Grand Anse area on the west coast. More experienced riders can get taken up into the mountains, where bathing beneath thunderous waterfalls is the highlight of the expedition.

Mahe also features a picturesque nine hole course at the Seychelles Golf Club.

For anyone dismayed at the thought of so much strenuous activity, many hotels in the Seychelles have spas with extensive menus offering a variety of massages, scrubs and similar treatments in blissful surrounds.

EVENTS: Three of the most popular events that take place annually on the islands are:CARNAVAL INTERNATIONAL - an event showcasing the cultural diversity of the Seychelles.

This Carnival is due to take place in Victoria from 24th to 26th April 2015

SUBIOS UNDERWATER FESTIVAL - early October, promoting underwater conservation.

Lasting a total of three days, this event takes place at Beau Vallon and draws an international audience.

FESTIVAL KREOLE - late October/early November, held in Victoria. Usually staged during the last week of the month, this sixday carnival event celebrates Creole culture, with much in the way of dance, arts, crafts and traditional cuisine.

HIKING - Hikers will be in their element on Mahé, La Digue and Praslin, where a number of well-marked trails lead into the interior. The threehour trek between Anse Royale and Anse à la Mouche, running across

DAY 5 – ST LUCIA/HLUHLUWE After a leisurely breakfast, head for the ‘Oldest Park in Africa’, Hluhluwe. En-route a stop at Emdoneni Cat Rehabilitation Centre is recommend. As it is here you will have the opportunity to come face to face with the fastest land animal, a cheetah. On arrival in Hluhluwe, freshen up for set off in search of The Big 5. Overnight at local hotel/lodge.

DAY 8 – SWAZILAND Enjoy a breakfast at your leisure before setting off to explore the hidden gems the country has to offer. Highlights include, The Ngwenya Glass Factory and the highly decorative Swazi Candles which are hand-made using the ageold technique “millefiore”. Overnight at local hotel.

DAY 2 - TOWNSHIP TOUR AND VICTORIA STREET MARKET It is on this day you have the opportunity to walk in the footsteps of struggle heroes as you visit the historically rich Inanda Township.

Highlights include Ohlange Institute (where Mr Nelson Mandela cast his first vote democratic vote in 1994), and Ghandi Settlement. DAY 3 - DURBAN/ESHOWE Depart Durban this morning and head north into the heart of Zulu Kingdom and the town of Eshowe. Shakaland, billed as ‘the greatest Zulu experience in Africa’, is a replication of a Zulu ‘Umuzi’ or homestead.
