NDABO KHOZA CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER: TOURISM
SANIBONANI and Welcome to the Exceptional Zulu Kingdom
KWAZULU-NATAL
We have just started our first quarter of the financial year and we’ve already done so much. We hosted another successful Tourism INDABA in May. Despite concerns around the social issues that had taken place in April, the event was largely considered very successful by various tourism partners. It was also announced that Durban will host it again in 2016. We continue to work very hard to ensure that our visitors have unforgettable and informative experiences when they come to KZN. In this vein, during INDABA, the MEC for Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs, Mr Michael Mabuyakhulu, launched the model for the new multi-purpose centre and exhibition hall that will open for business at the Mandela Capture Site at the end of August. South African Tourism also recently launched an APP that gives users information on Madibainspired tourism attractions. This will put the Capture Site into an entirely new league worthy of its importance and its new iconic status. Members of the tourism trade continue to support us in creating world class experiences and tourism products for our visitors. In the past two years alone, the South Coast has seen an investment of over R110 million into the refurbishments and growth of new products, ranging between three- and five-star establishments. The Blue
Marlin Hotel was re-launched after a R35 million renovation, Umthunzi Hotel added 30 rooms during the past two years, another four star hotel, the Derosches, opened its doors in November last year, Ingeli Forest Lodge had extensive renovations that turned the property into a little piece of heaven below the Ingelo Mountain range, and finally, the five-star Gorge Private Lodge and Spa recently added a wine cellar, conference room and additional rooms. These investments go a long way towards positioning KZN as premium destination that international tour operators are keen to package and promote to their customers. Two weeks after INDABA, KZN hosted the Association for South Africa Travel Agents (ASATA) Conference. This event afforded the city and province an ideal opportunity to promote the KZN’s tourism services and experiences to the members of this very important tourism association, and to encourage them to package KZN as a domestic tourism destination. In July, KZN will once again host a number of events and conferences that will bring thousands of visitors and travellers to our shores. • The 21st Baptist World Congress that attracts thousands of delegates from all over the world to KZN. •
Inaugurated in 1897, the Vodacom Durban July will once again bring fashionistas, celebrities, socialites and horse racing enthusiasts to KZN to what has become the biggest event in the social calendar of South Africa and indeed the biggest racing event in Africa.
•
The second edition of the MTV Africa Music Awards will bring musicians from all over the African continent to our shores for the biggest music award show in Africa. These will be coupled with activations in Nigeria and Kenya to promote travel packages to KZN.
Earlier this year, we launched the reality television show on SABC1, Holiday Swap KZN, with the aim of promoting travel to millions of television viewers. We are happy to say that the show’s finale for Season 1 on May 9 had a viewership of a whopping 4.9 million people, making it the second most watched reality TV show on television. The show has been a magnificent platform to bring KZN to millions of viewers who may have never taken a holiday, but now are potentially the next KZN visitors. Going forward there is a lot of activity online with great travel specials for your next KZN holiday available on www.holidayswap. co.za. Travellers also have an option of taking up the Thebe Travel Card offering flexible payment options exclusively for your next holiday in KZN. We wait with open arms to welcome you to the Zulu Kingdom. To stay on top of what’s going on in the province, visit our www.zulu.org.za and like our Facebook page: https://www.facebook. com/KZNTourism Don’t forget to #GottaLuvKZN when you post your photos on Instagram of your fun times in KZN.

Durban Chamber’s ‘’Ultimate Cook-Off’’ The date was 5 May, the venue was the award winning 9th Avenue Bistro, and the audience had gathered for an exciting evening of fine dining, where they would decide the winner. Taste buds were geared for an adventure and the battle lines were drawn. Two teams would do battle in the kitchen - the ladies represented by DCCI CEO, Dumile Cele, alongside Master Chef South Africa winner, Roxi Wardman and the gents team by Charlie Lakin, head Chef at 9th Avenue Bistro and Graham Neilson Chef and owner of 9th Avenue Bistro.
A six course meal was served and the audience had a very tough decision to make. Both teams had excelled and were eager to claim the title. The decision of choosing the winner was proving extremely difficult. Dumile had surprised many in attendance as she is best known for heating things up in the business environment rather than in the kitchen. Only one dish remained: The dessert and the audience looked forward to an explosive ending. The evening had drawn to a close, the votes were in, the audience had decided, the winning team was Dumile and Roxi – Congratulations.

The awards ceremony will be held at the International Convention Centre Durban and Loeries Creative week will take place along the Durban beach front in a ceremony of creativity and innovation.
an experience that emulates the Cannes experience. Andrew Human, CEO of the Loeries, explains that Sir Marin Sorrell, leading UK advertising CEO, says that the Cannes Festival provides entrants and participants with the opportunity to “get away a little bit from the hurly burly and have fun.”
The Loerie Awards play an essential role in helping marketers, agencies and consumers appreciate the value of ideas and fresh thinking, by showcasing the value that creativity adds to our brands and our economy.
Durban will play host to the Loeries Fringe Festival, in which the local community can create pop-up events to entertain or express creativity, running alongside the main event. This year, for the first time, the Fringe event will incorporate crafts and food markets.
Loeries Creative Week is the single biggest event in the brand communications industry in Africa and the Middle East, attracting thousands of delegates from CEOs to advertising juniors across the region. It is a seven-day festival incorporating the judging and awards ceremonies, the judges’ seminar, workshops and networking functions. The awards ceremonies themselves will take place on Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 August.
“The City of Durban is looking forward to being host city to one of the most powerful and influential creative gatherings in the Brand Communications Industry,” says Phillip Sithole, head of Durban Tourism. “The re-staging of the Loerie Awards in Durban and the Province of KwaZulu-Natal will be a major boost to the local economy, with a projected R100 million over the one-week period.”

1000 Hills
When Europeans arrived at the Port of Natal in 1825, the Valley of 1000 Hills was a remote and isolated area teeming with game. WS Field was one of the first Europeans to settle in 1851, and leopards were said to occasionally spend the night on the veranda of the Field homestead in what is now Kloof. Within a few years a wagon route opened up between Durban and the interior, close to what is now the Old Main Road. The establishment of the railway line linking the goldfields with the port rapidly followed the discovery of gold in the Transvaal in the 1880s, and the rail and road traffic through the 1000 Hills increased. The Valley of 1000 Hills is named after the many hills and valleys which rise up from the banks of the Umgeni River as it flows from the distant Drakensberg mountains to the Indian Ocean. The valley has been home to the Zulu people for centuries, with many continuing to practice and live their unique traditional lifestyle. Their colourful ceremonies and expressive, artistic culture give this area its vibrant atmosphere and creative energy. Explore the roots of Zulu culture by taking an organised tour deep into tribal lands. Witness ancient Zulu ceremonies, as traditional diviners ‘throw the bones’ and communicate with their spiritual ancestors at PheZulu Safari Park. PheZulu also offers traditional Zulu dancing and cultural shows, as well as game drives, local curios, wonderful views across the valley and a crocodile and snake park. On the crest of the hills overlooking the valley are leafy suburbs and village centres, which have astonishing views and a year round holiday climate of warm summers and cool winters. These villages offer all the creature comforts one would expect including spas,
B&Bs, fine dining, sophisticated shopping centres, outdoor adventure and local arts and crafts unique to the area. Shongweni Dam, Game Reserve and Polo Grounds are nearby, as are Inanda and Nagle Dams as well as Tala Game Reserve. THE MUSHROOM FARM site is located on the old working Chef Mushroom Farm. The main shed housing the majority of retail units are converted mushroom growing sheds. While the smaller shed was a composting plant in its previous life. Today, however, it is quite hard to imagine that Country Chic’s beautifully decorated rooms were once filled to the brim with smelly compost and that the Peel’s Honey Shop housed the staff toilets and change rooms. The first shop on the site was the Chef Mushroom Farmstall which sold wholesale mushrooms to the public. Over time a nursery was added to the little farmstall. The Mushroom Shop and Nursery was then followed by Garden Decor and The Veggie Shop and out of this small group of traders a centre “mushroomed”. Today the centre is home to an array of carefully selected shops. There are not many places in the bustling highway area where you can have an award winning cup of coffee whilst picking up fencing poles and fertiliser, getting advice on alternative eco-friendly energy solutions at SAFE GAS or having your television fixed but at The Mushroom Farm you can do all of this all the while having a chicken pecking at your feet.
Efforts have been made to create an environment which appeals to both local highway residents as well as meanderers from further afield who are looking for an outing on the weekends. The centre is not only home to a group of enthusiastic traders but it is also home to an ever growing animal farmyard. Valentino the Cameroonian Goat rules the farmyard from atop his pile of rocks which have been aptly named Goat Mountain. His subjects include a menagerie of ducks, chickens, guinea fowl and rabbits! There have been a number of great escapes by the rabbits and as a result, you will often come across a rabbit or two while you walk through the rose nursery. In line with the farm life, horse boxes and riders are also a common sight, as equestrians pop in and out of the centre to pick up feed or tack or sometimes both!

Sapphire Coast The town of Amanzimtoti (meaning ‘sweet waters’ in Zulu) is said to have been named by the great Zulu King Shaka after tasting the fresh water that flows out of the hills at this scenic spot. It is situated on the coast a short drive south of Durban. This part of the coast is a popular destination for scuba divers who come to explore Aliwal Shoal, a fossilised sand dune that lies 5km off the Umkomaas river mouth. A myriad of warm water reef fish and cold water fish converge on Aliwal Shoal to create a kaleidoscope of colour. For those who prefer to remain on terra firma, the beaches of the Sapphire Coast provide plenty of opportunities to enjoy swimming, surfing or fishing. Nature lovers can explore the Amanzimoti Bird Sanctuary or stroll in one of the nature reserves.

WHAT, WHERE & WHEN
PIETERMARITZBURG MIDLANDS Contrary to popular perceptions, winter in the midlands and Pietermaritzburg is about more than just log fires and hot toddies to ward off the bracing cold. Make no mistake, much as those wintry creature comforts add to the bonhomie of the coldest season, it’s also a time of great outdoor adventure.
For more info check out the website www.midlands.kzn.org.za It’s for good reason, for example, that Art in the Park is held this time of the year, from June 3-7. Set under the grove of London plane trees on the banks of the Dusi River, the art-selling exhibition capitalises on the good weather, crunchy leaves and invigorating air. Then there’s the annual Creighton Aloe Festival, a two-day celebration of the iconic plant species on July 11 and 12 that includes a flea market, plant sale and steam locomotive rides throughout the weekend.
Did you know?
A highlight of the annual Creighton Aloe Festival is a number of return rides aboard a funky train pulled by a magnificently restored steam locomotive, along the picturesque Ngogwaan River with breathtaking views of aloe ferox in full flower.
The midlands region is of course also famous for the myriad of destinations spanning the hospitality, craft, art and culinary sectors.
morning markets at Karkloof and the farmers’ market at the Botanic Gardens in Pietermaritzburg, a host of smaller initiatives serve more localised areas. This generic appeal is also a popular drawcard for the mountain biking fraternity that favours the midlands for its scenic beauty and diversity of terrain. In a similar vein, the midlands is growing in popularity with a two-wheel fraternity of a different kind – adventure motorcycling. An extensive network of roads, tarred and gravel, is well-nigh irresistible to these riders on dual purpose motorcycles who tend to construct a route that takes in iconic and lesser known attractions.
A large part of its appeal resides in the fourseason beauty of the area, attested to its popularity with visitors from the temperate coastal belt of the province and those hailing up country from Gauteng and the Free State in particular. To this end, the renowned market culture is a huge attraction. Defined by the Saturday www - WHAT, WHERE & WHEN June-July 2015 | 29

ZULULAND This region has become known as the Heart of the Zulu Kingdom, and it’s easy to see why. It is the place where many clans and tribes came together hundreds of years ago and became one great nation. It is a place of breathtaking beauty, teeming with wildlife and a people with immense pride in their own heritage and culture – a place of history and of ceremony.

The R66 between Gingindlovu and Phongolo follows one of the oldest trade routes through Zululand. In the early 19th Century, settlers would set off from Port Natal in their ox-wagons on well-worn tracks along the coast and cross the Thukela River into the heart of the Zulu Kingdom. Settlers where required to obtain permission from the king before heading inland to hunt and trade in his territory.
The Emakhosini Cultural Heritage Park, in the legendary Valley of the Kings, is a great place to start your journey. The park combines a beautiful and historic Zululand valley with a game reserve and some very rich cultural and historic sites… it was here that King Shaka grew up and later established his Royal Residence. The Emakhosini Memorial stands on a lookout hill and has a huge bronze beer pot as its centre piece. The pot is surrounded by friezes depicting everyday Zulu life. Surrounding the pot are seven large animal horns symbolising the seven kings who lie buried in the valley. A full time tour guide is on hand to offer information and point out important sites.

Zululand offers an extensive network of nature reserves and game parks ensuring an abundance of flora and fauna to delight the visitor – from several hundred bird species, many species of antelope, hippo, cheetah, giraffe to the Big Five...lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and rhino. Whether being accommodated at a luxury game lodge, tented camp or self catering chalet…whether on foot, horseback, canoe or 4x4... an unforgettable wildlife adventure beckons.
Nongoma, the royal city of Zululand, is the home of King Goodwill Zwelethini, and his royal palaces are one of the main attractions in the area. EXPLORE THE ROUTES OF ZULULAND THE BATTLEFIELDS ROUTE The canvasses of the 19th century are filled with one historical drama after another as three forces pitted their armies against each other - fighting for land and supremacy. Between 1836 and 1852, Zulu warriors clashed with Boer settlers. Some years later the might of the British military was hurled against the Zulu nation. During the AngloZulu War of 1879, and the independent Afrikaner movements twice took up arms against the British Empire - first from 1880 to 1881 and then for three years during the Anglo-Boer War (1899-1902). The tranquil hills and grasslands of Zululand carry many a famous battle scar. The largest concentration of battle sites in South Africa are to be found in northern KwaZulu-Natal. Visited by military history enthusiasts from around the world, the sites are visitor friendly and linked by the Battlefields Route.
Several of the key towns on the Route are in Zululand, as are dozens of battlefields and fortifications, museums, war graves and memorials. The Zululand towns on the Battlefields Route are ESHOWE, MELMOTH, ULUNDI, BABANANGO, VRYHEID and PAULPIETERSBURG. Between them they offer a fascinating array of military landmarks that capture the atmosphere of a turbulent past. The Route can be travelled as a self-drive adventure, and an excellent guide-map is available from all local tourist information offices. Alternately, join a tailor-made battlefield tour in the company of a specialist guide who will show you sites and recount tales of epic battles, bravery and betrayal. ZULULAND’S HERITAGE ROUTE 66 Zululand’s Route 66 between GINGINDLOVU and UPHONGOLO - follows one of the oldest trade routes through Zululand. Settlers resident in Port Natal in the early 19th Century would set off in oxwagons on well-worn tracks and cross into Zululand at a drift very close to the present N2 bridge over the Thukela River. The merchandise their wagons carried, as they forded the Thukela River into Zululand, included cotton and lambswool blankets, calico cloth, brass and copper wire, and coloured glass beads. Other commodities such as pick handles were not uncommon, and sometimes a gun or some gunpowder might be smuggled in to enhance profits. During their trips which would last up to three months, the traders hunted and bartered and on their return journey, if all
THE ZULULAND BIRDING ROUTE The route has a spectacular 605 bird species and is a treasure trove of specials such as Green Barbet, Pel’s Fishing Owl, PinkThroated Twinspot, Neergard’s Sunbird and Palmnut Vulture. But this is just one part of a rich story. The Zululand Birding Route is much more than a convenient information and booking system - the Zululand Birding Route is a conservation programme, proving that birding can generate income for local communities - in this way, birding tourism adds real value to wild birds and habitats in which they occur; it provides a tangible reason to conserve natural habitats and the birds that occur in them. The Birding Route is helping create a new career path for young South Africans from disadvantaged communities through training as birding guides. Individuals are selected from communities neighboring 32 | www - WHAT, WHERE & WHEN June-July 2015
the birding spots for training, and through ongoing follow up assistance and mentorship this sharpens and assesses their skills and empowers them to make a success of their careers. So why not try something totally different and take a day out birding. went well, they would return to Port Natal with their wagons filled with ivory, buffalo and wildebeest skins, rhino horn, hippo teeth and hippo fat. Following in these same paths soon after them, in ever increasing numbers, were the missionaries, transport riders, then soldiers, colonial administrators, police, settlers and farmers. The wagon tracks have long since made way for a modern infrastructure but today’s visitors in their air-conditioned SUV’s, navigated by GPS, can still get a sense of how things used to be on Route 66. Many of its valleys once teeming with wild game, have been divided up into fertile farms but Zululand remains a place deeply rooted in its ancient traditions. Utrecht is home to 10 national monuments and 10 historic sites, one of which is the Old Parsonage which now houses the Utrecht Museum. It was originally built in 1888 for Reverend and Mrs HL Neethling. The museum exhibits various artefacts from the Stone Age to the Victorian influences in Africa and the Utrecht area. 34 | www - WHAT, WHERE & WHEN June-July 2015
The adventurous visitor to the region will enjoy white-water rafting down the mighty Thukela, or for a wildlife experience, visit the Ithala Game Reserve or the Nambiti Conservancy. There are a number of mountain biking opportunities as well as 4x4 trails, horse riding and hiking. Other more relaxed pursuits include a round of golf on one of the 9- and 18-hole courses, the cool trout waters near Newcastle will delight any avid fly fisherman, or just indulge and soak away the stress in the soothing mineral waters of the hot springs at the Lilani Hot Springs community project in Greytown. Don’t miss the chance of ‘ticking’ one of
the nearly 400 species of bird that have been identified along the Amajuba Birding Meander. This birding route offers a wide range of activities for birding enthusiasts, particularly those seeking species that prefer ‘grassveld meets berg’ habitats. A whole range of species normally associated with grassveld, bushveld and mountain habitats are to be found and the region is well known for its water birds. One quaint historic town in the region is Utrecht, the only town in South Africa that is encircled by a game park. Tucked beneath the Balele Mountains, with wetlands, forests and rivers, this town attracts fly-fisherman, bird-watchers and others wishing to get close to nature. Utrecht was one of five Voortrekker towns established before 1850.

UMZINYATHI
Rich in history, culture & striking beauty
UMZINYATHI IS A HISTORICALLY RICH REGION, RENOWNED FOR ITS NATURAL BEAUTY. THE DISTRICT IS SITUATED IN NORTHWEST KWAZULU-NATAL, BORDERED BY THE MIDLANDS IN THE WEST, THE DRAKENSBERG IN THE NORTH, AND ZULULAND TO THE EAST. The Umzinyathi region bears memories of the wars that swept across South Africa between 1879 and 1902, but its history starts long before this. The legendary King Shaka and the Zulu nation created upheaval among local tribes, the Voortrekkers crossed the mountains to settle on the land, while the British colonists had settled at what was known as ‘Port Natal’, now Durban. What followed was an era of war, as the Zulus, Voortrekkers and British clashed in some of the bloodiest battles in the history of South Africa, shaping the towns and villages of this region. The wars were fought over land and sovereignty, and played out over almost 100 years. Today people travel from around the world to revisit these momentous events in our history.

Rorke’s Drift Rorke’s Drift, located 45 kilometres southeast of Dundee, is the site of one of the most famous battles of the Anglo-Zulu War. It is a tranquil village nestled at the foot of a rocky outcrop, a few kilometres from the Mzinyathi River. At the entrance to the village is a traditional Zulu umuzi (village), with beehive huts encircling an Nguni cattle kraal. (main photo pictured above). The umuzi offers visitors the chance to truly experience traditional Zulu lifestyle; be captivated by the pure energy of Zulu dancers, milk an Nguni cow, taste home-brewed Zulu beer and sleep the night in a beehive hut. Further into the village is the Rorke’s Drift Battlefield and Museum, which has attracted much acclaim for its displays of the Anglo-Zulu War.

DRAKENSBERG
The Drakensberg Mountains, with their massive cliffs, riverine bush, lush yellowwood forests and cascading waterfalls, form an enormous barrier separating KwaZulu-Natal from the Kingdom of Lesotho. In combining sheer natural beauty with a wealth of biological diversity, this 243 000 hectare mountainous region, known as the uKhahlamba Drakensberg Park, well deserves its international status as a World Heritage Site and hiking paradise.

The rare and increasingly threatened Lammergeier (Bearded Vulture) has a wingspan of up to about 3 metres, and despite its size, is a supreme flyer and incredibly agile in the air, typically covering six or seven hundred kilometres in a day. The Lammergeier eats the bones of a carcass, grabbing the bone in its formidable claws, lifting it 20 metres up in the air and dropping it onto a rock to smash into smaller more manageable pieces.
The colder winter months in the Drakensberg offer cold, frosty mornings and clear sunny days, ideal for hiking, biking, climbing and a myriad of other adventure activities. But it’s fly-fishing that comes into its own‌ With the abundance of excellent trout waters, both well stocked dams and lakes as well as pristine stretches of river, the Drakensberg offers some of the best flyfishing opportunities in South Africa. The many crystal clear rivers and dams in the higher reaches are regular favourites with the serious and skilled fly-fishermen as well as the growing number of recently initiated fanatics who embrace this most challenging and personally satisfying of angling pursuits. Watch gracious and rare vultures as they fly overhead, spiralling effortlessly, catching the thermals. Visit one of the vulture restaurants in the region and get a closer look as they settle down on a carcass to squabble over the pickings. Seek out ancient Bushman rock art, evidence of the San people who lived in the area long time ago. The earliest of these paintings are about 800 years old.

There are a large number of marked trails - from short ambles through indigenous fern forests, to more strenuous full day hikes traversing rivers and hillsides, and full-on adventuring. Although accidents are rare, be sure to complete the Mountain Rescue Register as a safety precaution. You can also feel the adrenalin rush provided by abseiling and white water rafting, or take a helicopter ride to view the majestic Drakensberg from above. Other active options are horse riding, mountain biking and golf, but if you’re less inclined to physical activity, just relax, breathe in the fresh mountain air and appreciate the splendour of the Drakensberg Mountains.

A fun event to look out for is the Portuguese Mariners Food and Wine Festival at MacBanana on the 25 and 26 July. This lively event features an International Food & Wine Village, salsa dancers, storytelling festival, pipe band, Portuguese dancers, Mariners Folk Music Festival and lots more. If you’re looking for ‘fast & furious’, the third annual Dezzi Invitational Time Attack is for you – the event will welcome over 55 of SA’s top drivers from around the country from July 03 to 05. ELEPHANT COAST
The iSimangaliso Wetlands Park located in the Elephant Coast region of KwaZulu-Natal was declared South Africa’s first Natural World Heritage Site on 1 December 1999. It is considered South Africa’s third largest park and extends from Mapelane in the South, to Kozi Bay in the North. The park has 280km of near pristine coastline and comprises of 328 000 hectares of magnificent scenery and a variety of habitats ranging from marine systems (coral reefs and beaches) and coastal forests (from salt and fresh water marshes to the open estuarine waters of Lake St Lucia itself) to lush coastal plains and drier woodland areas.
For more info check out the website www.elephantcoast.kzn.org.za
Did you know?
The iSimangaliso Wetland Park’s dune forests are one of the few areas in southern Africa that the strikingly coloured Gaboon Viper can be found. Visitors walking the self-guided trails of iSimangaliso should keep a careful eye open for these snakes as they are fond of lying in a sunny patch or amongst fallen leaves. A sighting should be considered a rare and special privilege, and just another example of the miracles awaiting discovery in iSimangaliso.
The largest mammals found in the iSimangaliso Wetlands Park are the Humpback whale in the ocean and on land, the African Elephant. The majority of sightings of whale in KwaZulu-Natal are South Hemisphere Humpback whales, which tend to be more spectacular and lively with their regular breaching than the Southern Right whales. These whales pass along the KZN coast annually during the winter months on a migration route between their summer polar feeding grounds in the Antarctic to the tropical and sub-tropical coastal waters of Northern Mozambique and Madagascar where they breed in the winter. A boat based whale watching experience is something that memories are made of, but be sure to use a legal operator who abides by the whale watching regulations. In the safe hands of an experienced and knowledgeable skipper, you will be taken through the waves to seek out the gigantic Humpback whale. You may be fortunate enough to witness a 40ton acrobatic Humpback whale breaching
a mere 50 meters away from the boat or perhaps just swimming alongside the vessel. In addition to whales, you may also see a variety of pelagic bird life, dolphins, shark, marlin and possible even a whale shark. Stunning Sodwana Bay, also situated within the iSimangaliso Wetland Park, is worldrenowned for exquisite diving and also for the turtles that nest there during the summer months. Reef diving in Sodwana Bay provides divers from around the world with an amazing opportunity to explore the unmarred coral reefs, home to a wide diversity of sea life. Sodwana Bay is ideal for both shark diving and reef diving all year round, but the best conditions are from April through September.
