SANIBONANI and Welcome to the Exceptional Zulu Kingdom
We have just wrapped up one of the most exciting months on the tourism calendar, Tourism Month. It began with us rewarding the best of the best in the tourism sector at the glitzy Lilizela Tourism Awards, hosted by the MEC for Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs, Mr Sihle Zikalala, at the uMfolozi Casino in Richards Bay on 7 September 2017. This is where 45 provincial winners were announced. They will go on to represent KwaZulu-Natal at the National Awards in October. We also partnered with popular Gagasi FM DJs, SPHEctacula and Dj Naves, popularly known as the Kings of the Weekend, as our Tourism Month ambassadors for the “Do KZN” campaign. The campaign is aimed at encouraging the people of the province to explore and travel within their own province, and also to remind them of the role they play as ambassadors for the province and tourism. Throughout the month, “The Kings” explored KZN and sampled some of our tourism offerings, encouraging many of their fans to do the same. They were also part of the “Save the Rhino” activation with the MEC to focus attention on the plight faced by this animal at the hands of poachers. We hosted the Provincial Tourism Month celebrations on 15 September 2017 in the Amajuba District Municipality. This was followed by a tourism awareness workshop targeting tourism students from the area. They later visited tourism products in Durban to gain insights on the behind-the-scene
work done in hospitality to ensure that our visitors get the best experience when visiting KZN. As Gauteng is the biggest domestic source market for KZN outside of the province itself, we participated at the Gauteng Getaway Show to promote KZN as mustvisit destination for the upcoming festive season. This was coupled with consumer activation at Northgate Mall. Through these interventions, we are confident that we will see more Gautengers flocking to the province to enjoy their summer holidays here. We will be rolling out our “Do KZN” domestic campaign across various media platforms to enable tourists to book their next KZN holiday with ease and convenience. We can safely say that we are expecting a profitable festive season, and trust that our trade partners are ready to welcome our visitors with the warmth and hospitality for which the province of KZN is renowned. We urge you to continue to follow us on all our social networks, Facebook (KZNTourism), Instagram(@tourismkzn_official),Twitter(@ Tourism KZN), YouTube (KwaZulu-Natal Tourism Authority) and Pintrest (KZN Tourism), to stay updated on all our upcoming events. Drop us a line and tell us about your exceptional holiday in the Zulu Kingdom, and join us in conversation by following #GottaLuvKZN. We wait with open arms to welcome you to the Zulu Kingdom.

With Heritage Month behind us, KZN’s live entertainment scene continues apace. Durban’s Playhouse Company boasts a busy roster of shows. ‘To House’, Ashwin Singh’s drama about racial tensions between disparate Durban population sectors, runs in the Drama Theatre from 5 to 7 October. With cast headed by Michael Gritten, Menzi Mkwane and playwright Singh, the production is directed by Ralph Lawson. The Playhouse’s Loft Season, which offers free admission to productions to be seen, showcases several home-grown Durban shows that have won acclaim. Heading the roster is the run-away hit, B!#ch Stole My Doek, written and directed by Clinton Marius and starring Shona Johnson. Set in Wentworth, the laugh-a-line comedy with a twist won a prestigious Standard Bank Ovation Award at the National Arts Festival in Grahamstown, as well as a slew of Durban Theatre Awards. Don’t miss its performances on 6 and 7 October at 7.30pm. Other notable shows on the Loft Season’s roster include, among others: Trafficked, a physical theatre piece that combines poetry and media projection to tell the story of a South African girl tricked into a dangerous human trafficking syndicate; Liberty, a dance piece around South African stories of lost souls in an idealistic world who have fallen by the way side; Touch My Blood, a tale of a young man growing up in Hammersdale Township in the 80s; and the drama, Cell Block Double, a two-hander new South African play about two women who are incarcerated in a cell together. Another not-to-be-missed event at The Playhouse is the eagerly anticipated annual Last Night of the Proms concert, presented as always by the British Cultural and Heritage Association. With South Africa’s ‘Mr Music’, Richard Cock, on the podium, and a bumper programme of Proms favourites set to be performed in cracking style by the KZNPO with a powerhouse combo of choirs and soloists, the event will be one to remember! Diarise 22 October at 3pm, and be there! For full programme details about shows at The Playhouse, visit www.playhousecompany.com. The Melanie Kisten Dance Academy celebrates 21 years in the entertainment industry with an exciting new theatre production – The Bread, The Porridge and The Mix Masala. This theatrical fusion of comedy, dance and music is written, directed and produced by

Melanie Kisten, runs at Sibaya Casino’s iZulu Theatre on Saturday 21 October at 6pm and on Sunday 22 October at 3pm. Tickets via Computicket @ R120pp. To book, call 0861 915 8000 or book online at www.computicket.com. Also at the iZulu Theatre, catch the return of music wiz Ian Von Memerty’s phenomenally long-running revue, Handful Keys. Now expanded to include three keyboards and three pianists and more, the hugely popular show runs from 8 to 19 November. Book at Computicket. Actor Tim Plewman once again dons the Caveman’s skins and steps onto stage to add to his record breaking slew of sold out performances of the longest-running and most successful solo comedy in South African theatre history: Defending the Caveman plays at UKZN’s Elizabeth Sneddon Theatre in Durban, from 4 to 14 October. And to get a revised history lesson from South Africa’s most famous white woman, Evita Bezuidenhout, note she will present her side-splitting, satirical stand-up Evita Bezuidenhout & the Kaktus of Separate Development at the Elizabeth Sneddon theatre for a three week run from Tuesday 31 October until Sunday 19 November. Tannie Evita takes her audience on a unique great trek as she follows the journey of the Kaktus of Separate Development (Kaktaceae Apartica) from its arrival in 1652 to its reinvention in 1994 – right up to the headlines of today. Assisted by visual aids reflecting a familiar terrain of history, from the arrival of a small Dutch ship called the Drommedaris to the coronation of a former political prisoner called Madiba. She will have you in stiches while tackling one of the most controversial issues in our democracy: the real history of South Africa and the right to laugh at the lies. Evita was last at the Sneddon in 2013. Tickets available from Computicket www.computicket.co.za 0861 915 8000 / Shoprite Checkers Money Market Counters. Finally, a note for classical music lovers and concert goers, the KZN Philharmonic Orchestra’s World Symphony Series 2017 Late Spring Season runs in the Durban City Hall on Thursday evenings at 7.30pm between 19 October and 16 November. For details about the seasons exciting programmes, to be performed by stellar line-up of international artists and leading South African musicians, visit www.kznphil.org or call 031-369 9438.

Be sure to find time to enjoy Durban’s vast stretches of golden sands, warm Indian Ocean and revamped beach promenade – perfect for a ‘cool down’ after a lengthy cycle!
DID YOU KNOW?
For more info check out the website www.durbanexperience.co.za Visitors to Durban will be spoilt for choice, when it comes to restaurants and nightlife, with a variety of clubs, theatres, bars and cafes available. There are number of restaurants and fast food outlets along the promenade perfect for ice creams with the kids, coffee with friends or date night dining. Florida Road is a popular entertainment area with a variety of dining options, in addition to being a WIFI hotspot zone. For something a little out of the ordinary visit The Chairman, a sophisticated jazz club on Durban’s infamous Mahatma Gandhi Street, or head to one of the township restaurants like Max’s Lifestyle or Eyadini in Umlazi, or Under the Moon in eNanda. Otherwise, head to the leafy suburbs of Kloof and Hillcrest for artisanal coffee and an assortment of delicious cakes at any number of charming venues.
The Amashova Classic is the oldest ‘classic’ cycle race in South Africa with the first race held in 1986 with 150 cyclists. Now in excess of 10,000 cyclists compete, from serious competitors to recreational participants –The Tsogo Sun Amashova Durban Classic is included in the UCI world cycling tour which determines world rankings.
The adventurous will enjoy a guided canoeing trip on the uMgeni River with Durban Green Corridor, or head to iSithumba, a small village in the Valley of 1000 Hills, for some heart racing mountain biking. The Woza eNanda Heritage Trail, which promotes some of Durban’s most important historical sites, offers visitors a glimpse into history… Visit Mahatma Gandhi’s ‘home’ – now a museum in the Phoenix Settlement north of Durban, the
Ohlange Institute in Inanda, or the gravesite of Dr John Dube and where Nelson Mandela cast his historic vote in South Africa’s first democratic elections. Visit the Station Drive Precinct where funky markets and food outlets rub shoulders with boutique shops, a craft beer brewery and gin distillery… or opt for a guided walking tour of the markets of Warwick Triangle and the Victoria Street Market with its Indian spice shops and traditional medicine market for a taste of trading the old fashioned way. There are a number of golf courses in Durban for golf enthusiasts to choose from, with the Durban Country Club consistently scoring as one of the best – it has played host to sixteen South African Open Golf Tournaments, more than any other golf course in South Africa. Other top courses include Durban Beachwood (designed around a mangrove swamp), Cotswold Downs in suburban Hillcrest and the Mount Edgecombe Country Club.

The KwaZulu-Natal coastline is the only coastline with 37 beaches equipped with bather safety gear owned and maintained by the KwaZulu-Natal Sharks Board Maritime Centre of Excellence in South Africa. The KZNSB also conducts research into the
biology of sharks and other animals caught in shark safety gear. Tourists and scholars are educated with dynamic audio-visual shows and shark dissections. In-depth research, that has already produced vital insight, is conducted into shark behaviour, feeding and breeding. The public can enjoy early boat trips out to sea to observe staff at work. PIETERMARITZBURG MIDLANDS
Pietermaritzburg, named after Boer settlers Pieter Retief and Gert Maritz, offers visitors a wonderful blend of history, culture and craft. Five years after establishing Pietermaritzburg, however, the Boers succumbed to British military might leaving their well-planned city to be stamped with Edwardian and Victorian architecture, red brick and ‘broekie’ lace. Today these architectural gems sit beside vendors and hawkers and streets abuzz with taxis, giving it a real African vibe.

For more info check out the website www.midlands.kzn.org.za The Pietermaritzburg City Hall, rebuilt in 1895 after fire ravaged the original building, is said to be the largest brick building in the southern hemisphere - and is the starting point of the Tsogo Sun Amashova Durban Classic 2017. This, the oldest road classic cycle race in South Africa, sees thousands of cyclists starting their 105km cycle to Durban. Not into cycling? Then take a walk through Pietermaritzburg’s historical centre and enjoy the architecture and history of the town, as well as its wonderful museums and art galleries.
The Tatham Art Gallery is housed in the beautiful old Supreme Court building which dates back to 1875. The Gallery hosts a range of art exhibitions which change on a regular basis – look out for work by KwaZulu-Natal artists on display in the downstairs gallery. 22 www - WHAT, WHERE & WHEN Oct-Nov 2017
Spring in the KZN Midlands is a beautiful time, the rolling hills now lush and green and the gardens something to behold look out for the Open Gardens in both the Pietermaritzburg and Midlands region. It’s an area where farmland, rolling hills and country lanes come to life as quaint coffee shops, morning markets and a wealth of creative studios, where everything from life-size bronze sculptures and wrought iron homeware to intricate glass beads are fashioned with care. Be inspired to shop for plants, take an art or pottery course, or even learn to cook! There are numerous ‘shop
till you drop’ opportunities to take home the perfect hand-woven rug, wrought iron candlesticks or designer pottery teapot. And in between gardens, shopping and being creative, make sure you fit in some ‘me time’ surrounded by the fragrance of lavender and lemon grass at a glorious Midlands spa! And if adventure is more your thing, you’ll not be disappointed as the region offers a variety of thrills on land, water and in the air. The forests and hills offer memorable mountain biking and 4x4 trails, or abseil the 107m drop down the Howick Falls – or wizz through the trees on a Canopy Tour. Get wet as you go tubing or kayaking down the Dusi River or white water rafting on the magnificent Umkomaas River, said to be second only to the mighty Zambezi. For a more leisurely pursuit, go fly fishing in what is considered some of the best trout fishing waters in South Africa.

The Thula Thula Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre is an exciting joint venture, created in partnership with Thula Thula Game Reserve, Fundimvelo Community Conservation Trust and international animal welfare organisation FOUR PAWS, for the purpose of rescue, care and protection of wildlife, conservation education and community involvement. Previously called the Thula Thula Rhino Orphanage, dramatic events which took place on the 21st of February this year caused the project to close under its former management. The facility has now reopened under the auspices of the Thula Thula game reserve management and administration to take in all injured and orphaned wildlife to treat & care for them and rehabilitate them back into the wild.

There are pretty, historical towns such as Vryheid, with its many examples of Tudor and Edwardian architecture, and Paulpietersburg, where you can relax in the therapeutic hot springs fed by a natural spring that surfaces near the Dumbe Mountain. Paulpietersburg also played its part in the military history of the region, with the peace treaty that ended the Anglo-Boer war being signed at the nearby Egode River, and just 30km away is the Ntombe battle site from the Anglo-Zulu war. Ulundi, the historic capital of the region, is located near the site of King Cetshwayo’s royal settlement which was razed to the ground after the final battle of the AngloZulu War. Visit the nearby Emakhosini, the traditional burial ground of Zulu Kings, aptly known as the Valley of the Kings. A visit to Nongoma, the royal City of Zululand and central to Zulu culture, is where visitors can experience the traditional Zulu way of life – be enchanted by the atmosphere of the town,
the rural simplicity of the people and the informal trading that plays such an important part in their lives. Tradition reaches fever pitch at the traditional Mona Market, held in the third week of every month, and attracting thousands of people from all over KwaZuluNatal. They bring a fascinating variety of wares from fruit and vegetables, beadwork and beer pots, to cattle on the hoof. The Mona Market is an open market on the outskirts of the town and is a hive of activity, with people buying, selling and bartering to meet their most pressing needs. For a more relaxed environment, a visit to the Amatikulu Nature Reserve offers opportunities to canoe and fish in the estuaries, stroll along the beautiful beach, swim in the sea, spot wonderful birdlife and a variety of small game in the coastal lowland forest and unspoilt grasslands.

BATTLEFIELDS
The Battlefields region offers picturesque landscapes with rolling plains, rocky hills, undulating valleys and a concentration of historical battle sites. Rock strewn hills and fields littered with graveyards and the remains of fortifications are memorials to the battles that took place over numerous years shaping both South African and British history. With more recorded battlefields than anywhere else in Africa, this is the place to discover yet another facet of the Zulu Kingdom’s past.
DID YOU KNOW?
On 15 November 1899, Winston Churchill, then a war correspondent for the British, was travelling aboard an armoured train when it was ambushed. This resulted in him being captured by none other than Boer commander, General Louis Botha. Both these men became prime ministers of their respective countries, and years later their countries ended up fighting together on the same side. 26 www - WHAT, WHERE & WHEN Oct-Nov 2017
For more info check out the website www.battlefields.kzn.org.za Take one of several self-drive routes established in the region to enable you to visit these battle sites and historic towns. Knowledgeable, friendly and accredited local guides are available and guarantee hour upon hour of captivating company. But to really immerse yourself and relive the battles, take a tour with one of the local historians – walk up the wind-swept Spion Kop and relive the horrors that both the British and Boer soldiers had to endure in a futile battle that saw none the victor. This war began when after the Boers, on 9 October 1899, gave the British an ultimatum to withdraw their troops from the border of their territory, the Transvaal. They didn’t, and instead declared war on the Boers on 11 October 1899. Not only did the Boers and Brits suffer during this war, which lasted until May 1902, but so also didthousands of local indigenous South Africans, Indians and Asians who played a role on both sides. And for those more interested in nature, the Battlefields offers visitors a number of exciting opportunities for adventure, from white water rafting and mountain biking, to
less strenuous activities like game viewing or a round of golf – the beautiful 18-hole golf course at Vulintaba Country Estate in Newcastle is located in the foothills of the Drakensberg mountains. A number of towns in the region have nature on their doorsteps. Vryheid has the Vryheid Hill Nature Reserve, which is home to a number of endemic bird species including the blue cane, ground woodpecker and olive bush-shrike. In addition to great birding and incredible scenery, the Reserve offers a one-day hiking trail that passes several gun points dating back to the Anglo-Boer War. NORTH COAST WHAT, WHERE & WHEN
Also known as the Dolphin Coast due to the frequent sightings of bottlenose dolphins which can often be seen frolicking in the waves from many of the secluded bays and golden beaches. Pretty coastal holiday towns like Ballito, Salt Rock, Umdloti and Zinkwazi bask in sunshine-filled days with perfect swimming and surfing conditions, and a collection of tidal pools and excellent fishing spots to enjoy. The patches of natural coastal forest give way to endlessly rolling hills covered with the green gold of sugarcane – testament to the importance of South Africa’s first commercially grown sugarcane crop.
DID YOU KNOW?
For more info check out the website www.dolphincoast.kzn.org.za The North Coast offers luxury, beauty, sport and history, and is a place to indulge the senses. Spot a bottlenose dolphin for the first time, taste the spicy foodstuffs of the large Indian community that has made this region home, touch the fine detail of hand crafted art, smell the subtle fragrance of lemon grass as you relax at a spa, hear the sounds of sea gulls as you stroll along the beach… and that’s just on the first day.
Tongaat is also the oldest Indian community in South Africa. During the 1860s, indentured Indian labourers arrived to work in the sugar plantations. The town is now one of the largest sugar-producing districts in the world, and Hindu temples Vishwaroop and Juggernath Puri are testament to their having made Tongaat their home. Sample some of their culinary delights, including pineapple-on-a-stick covered with tangy spices. 28 www - WHAT, WHERE & WHEN Oct-Nov 2017
Explore pristine estuaries and coastal forest at one of the many nature reserves. Adventurous activities abound, from quad biking through the sugar cane fields to taking a flip along the magnificent coastline by microlight. For kids, and the curiousminded, there are the crocodile and animal farms. Tee off for a round of golf at one of the scenic golf courses this region has to offer, often with a backdrop of beautiful bays, green sugar cane and indigenous forests. Keen golfers will appreciate the sweeping fairways of Umhlali’s golf course at the Umhlali Country Club – its water holes often attract antelope and zebra, and the exotic palm trees give it a tropical feel. The internationally designed golf course at
Zimbali provides further playing pleasure for those who fervently pursue the sport and are up for a challenge. One natural highlight in the region at this time of year is the arrival of the European Barn Swallows. It is an incredible sight to witness up to 3 million of these tiny migratory birds as they gather together about half an hour before sunset, flying in their vast numbers over the wetlands in Mount Moreland. An opportunistic Bat Hawk or Sooty Falcon may even be spotted swooping in for a quick bite during the evening display! As dusk falls, the swallows suddenly drop into the reed-beds to roost and are gone. Enjoy an evening picnic or a few sundowners at the Lake Victoria Conservancy in Mount Moreland and witness this spectacular natural event.

THE CHIEF ALBERT LUTHULI MUSEUM is a national legacy project located in Groutville in KwaDukuza. A visit to the museum is a once in a lifetime and humbling experience, that fills one with awe and inspiration….
correspondence and literature generated by Chief Luthuli was banned, confiscated or located outside South Africa, at the time of the Luthuli Museum’s inauguration, the only surviving artefact on site was the physical home of Chief Luthuli.
Established as a cultural institution the museum is charged with conserving, upholding, promoting and propagating the life, values, philosophies and legacy of the extraordinary South African leader, Chief Albert Luthuli.
This has allowed the Luthuli Museum to engage in a new museology concerned as much with memory and the intangible as with more conventional museum artefacts. Since its formation, the Luthuli Museum has subsequently been involved in a rigorous process of collecting and repatriating oral histories, photographs, paintings, documents and other artefacts to assist with developing knowledge about the Legacy of Chief Luthuli

DRAKENSBERG The awe inspiring Drakensberg Mountains, with their massive cliffs towering over riverine bush, lush evergreen forests, cascading waterfalls and mountain streams, is an adventurer’s paradise and offers a wealth of outdoor activities to satisfy all fitness levels and age groups. As you meander through these majestic mountains, named ‘Ukhahlamba’ by the Zulu people and ‘The Dragon Mountain’ by the Dutch Voortrekkers, you’ll be walking through history.
DID YOU KNOW?
For more info check out the website www.drakensberg.kzn.org.za This region was originally inhabited by the San who, some 350 years ago, were displaced by African tribes and the arrival of early European settlers. This resulted in clashes between by Boer and Zulu, Brit and Zulu and then Brit and Boer – clashes that have affected the history of the people of South Africa. Be sure to visit one of the 500 different cave and overhang sites between Royal Natal National Park in the north and Bushman’s Nek in the south to experience evidence of the San way of life.
Altitudes in the Drakensberg vary from 1280m to almost 3500m, with the highest peak being Thabana Ntlenyana in Lesotho, at 3482m. The next highest is Mafadi at 3450m, in KwaZulu-Natal. The altitude variation results in a wide diversity of plants. In excess of 2100 plant species have been recorded, with a large number of them endemic – almost 400 species are found here and nowhere else in the world. The flora in the foothills is Afro-montane and on the summit Afro-alpine. 30 www - WHAT, WHERE & WHEN Oct-Nov 2017
The Cathedral range, with its numerous free standing peaks, magnificent mountain scenery and many accessible San paintings, is a favoured part of the Berg for backpacking and rock climbing. Bordered in the north and north-west by the Upper Thukela region, and in the south by the Mdedelelo Wilderness, the area is dominated by the spire like Cathedral Peak after which it is named, and the bell-shaped cathedral Bell peak to the south of it. A popular ascent is that of Cathedral Peak - on a clear day the view from the summit is magnificent with Cathkin Peak in the south and Eastern Buttress in the north clearly visible. Immediately below to the south-east, the scenery is dominated by the deep valley carved by the Mlambonja River. Cathedral Peak is also the only Berg
area where you can drive to the top of the Little Berg, bringing you much closer to the escarpment. Access to the Little Berg is via Mike’s Pass, a 10.5 km long 4x4 track. Keen for a round of golf? The Drakensberg region offers a number of options with eight courses to choose from - most located in unspoiled and spectacular surroundings. Choices range from the award winning Champagne Sports Resort 18-hole golf course in the central Drakensberg (ranked in the top 30 championship golf courses and recently rated SA’s most beautiful golf course), to the picturesque 9-hole Hlalanathi Golf Course in the northern Drakensberg, with its views of the Amphitheatre. Located in the southern Drakensberg is the18-hole Gooderson Drakensberg Gardens Golf Club boasting spectacular views of the Rhino Horn Peak.

ELEPHANT COAST
Located within the Elephant Coast region is the iSimangaliso Wetland Park, South Africa’s first proclaimed World Heritage Site, which, together with Mozambique, been protecting Africa’s first trans-frontier marine conservation area since 2009. It is an unspoilt area blessed with dense evergreen forests, lush ferns and wild orchids, wild date and Lala palms, swamp forests, mountainous sand dunes, thick coastal forest, pristine beaches as well as lakes and ocean.
DID YOU KNOW?
For more info check out the website www.elephantcoast.kzn.org.za Whale watching is popular between the months of May and November, when humpback whales make their way north from their Antarctic feeding grounds, heading for the sea channels between Mozambique and Madagascar. Here they give birth to their calves in bathwater-warm temperatures, only leaving when the babies have developed enough thick blubber to withstand the icy temperatures down south.
Since its inception in 2012, the iSimangaliso Rare and Endangered Species Fund has raised over R1.7million to date and channelled it into critical conservation projects exclusively dedicated to the conservation of flora and fauna in the UNESCO World Heritage Site. These include the collaring of elephant, lion, oribi and wild dog, the reintroduction of a number of animals and recently, the necessary dehorning of rhino in vulnerable areas to deter poachers.
Enjoy a trip into these biodiversity-rich waters of the Indian Ocean with St Lucia Tours & Charters, the only licensed boat-based operator in KwaZulu-Natal to take people out humpback whale watching. You might also spot turtles, whale sharks, dolphins, marlin and unusual pelagic birds. Another fun activity is a cruise up and down the St Lucia estuary where you’ll almost certainly spot hippos and crocodiles, sometimes rather too close for comfort, admire the mangrove trees, see iridescent malachite kingfishers hawking for tiny tilapia fish, and almost certainly hear the wild call of an African fish eagle. Fishermen will enjoy a spot of deepsea fishing, with Dorado, barracuda, tuna and snoek all a possibility. Should a marlin or sailfish be caught, be sure to tag-and-release as is the practice with St Lucia Tours & Charters.
Activities in the Eastern Shores area include swimming and snorkelling on Cape Vidal beach, and exploring the rocky shores of Mission Rocks at low tide. A game drive into the Western Shores area of Lake St Lucia offers a great opportunity to see elephant and giraffe, including young ones at this time of year. The uMkhuze section of the iSimangaliso Wetland Park is renowned for its game-viewing hides and often offers great sightings of African wild dog. The Hluhluwe iMfolozi Park is home to many species of antelope as well as large populations of elephant, buffalo and giraffe, the endangered rhino and predators such as the lion, cheetah and the elusive leopard. And Sodwana Bay, popular with both the diving fraternity as well as big game anglers, is where the coelacanth – once believed extinct – is just one of the approximately 1200 fish species identified here.
