Thanks to the support of a cast of hundreds, the cast of Peter Pan performed superbly over four sold out nights last week. Over 1,200 people were able to enjoy the spectacle of this story for all ages. Thank you to everybody who provided the opportunity for so many of our Yr 5 and 6 children to use their talents to the fullest. This year every student was involved in at least one aspect of the production and it showed! The sense of team and shared purpose was evident from the earliest preparations as students strove to ensure their contribution helped with the staging of the show. Many thanks to the many people who helped behind and in front of the scenes to ensure our children had this opportunity.

DVD of Peter Pan A parent of the school has kindly put together the official DVD copy of the recent Peter Pan Junior show. These are available for purchase by our community for a cost of $25 per DVD. If you would like to purchase a copy, please email info@clickhd.co.nz with your order details and deposit all payments directly into ClickHD Video Production Limited’s bank account (06-0294-0195092-00) along with your surname as the reference. Delivery will be approx 4 weeks. The cost of the sale of the DVD covers the cost of production. No profit to the school or the distributor is intended.

Mathlete of the Week Congratulations to David Beskhyroun from Room 33 for being Campbells Bay's 'Mathletics Mathlete of the Week' this week! Everyone in the school has a chance to win this title. Just use your Mathletics as often as possible in one week (Monday to Sunday), and if you earn the most points across the whole school the title will be yours!

Keeping Ourselves Safe - Term 4 Health Programme Keeping Ourselves Safe is a child protection programme where children and young people learn and apply a range of safety skills they can use when interacting with others. Students recognise the differences between healthy and unhealthy relationships and those who have been or are being abused are encouraged to seek help. We will be teaching this programme schoolwide in Term 4. The New Zealand Police supports this as it recommends that schools use the learning activities in Keeping Ourselves Safe within a whole-school approach. An information booklet for each family will come home next term and an information afternoon will be held in the library at 2.00pm on Thursday 16 October for those interested in more information.

Starship Mobile Phone Schools Appeal

If you have an old mobile phone you longer use, we would love to have it for the Starship Appeal 

Phones collected help raise funds to keep the Starship National Air Ambulance Service.



Phones collected are counted towards our schools chosen rewards from the Starship Mobile Phone Schools Campaign, i.e. cameras



This campaign helps to ensure NZ landfills are free of an array of hazardous toxic substances.

Despicable Me As a result of the great achievement with the Mathathon raising $23,000 for the library upgrade, well in advance of the target of $17,000 for this event, the principal will be face painted as a minion (from Despicable Me) tomorrow. Weather permitting, he will be making an appearance in the bus bay before school and on road patrol after school.

Quiz Night

See details on page 4. Book the night out now, 1 November. There are only 3 tables left—so be in quick for the last tables.

So bring along all your old mobile phones and put them in the purple box in the school office reception area. 

Being Travelwise in the Rain! Last Tuesday the Park Rise walking school bus had two North Harbour Rugby players walking with them because they had won an Auckland Transport competition. Even though it was bucketing down with rain they were determined to walk! It was great fun under our umbrellas leaping over puddles and marvelling at the waterfalls the rain was creating in Centennial Park. We really enjoyed hot chocolates with Mr McGowan afterwards. Many thanks Chris Vui and Michael Little who were great sports on the walk. Go North Harbour Rugby! Congratulations to Olivia Kirk who received a ‘Senior Walker’ merit and a ‘Winter Walker’ award and to Abigail Lyons, Eliza Ferguson-Dudding, Megan Beasleigh, Hannah Beasleigh, Carla Pethers-Boak, Niki Rastkar, Kaya Donnelly and Hannah Sinclair who all earned ‘Winter Walker’ awards for walking frequently last term. Anyone interested in joining the walking school bus please call Liz Donnelly on 0274 873 278. All welcome. “Not Self, but Service”

Introducing Abigail Joanna Nees Trish Nees (teacher from Rm 1) welcomes into her family a lovely baby girl, born last Thursday, 18 September at 3.08am and weighing in at 6 pounds 8oz and 51cm long. Both Mum and baby are doing well.

Sweet Success on the Hockey Field

Chess Club

This year CBS has had a record 11 winter hockey teams. It has been fantastic to see so many new players to the game this year and to hear such positive feedback on much fun our hockey players have had.

Chess club is held every Tuesday, 12.30pm in Rm 29. New players are welcome of all levels except absolute beginners.

There has been a dedicated group of parent volunteers and teachers who have given up their time to coach and manage our teams and a big thank you goes to them. With their commitment and the hard work put in by the players, CBS has seen much success this hockey season.

Fee is $50 per term unless you have already paid for the full year. Cheques made payable to Leonard McLaren first week of term please.

In particular our Year 3 and 4 Boys and Girls teams have proved to be a dominant force in the Year 3 and 4 competitions. A huge well done to Matthew Knight, Mairav Rajput, Alex Beilby, Dan Ibbotson, Jed Barlow, Jayden Anderson, Finn Davidson and Tom McDonald of the CBS Falcons for finishing second in the Year 3 and 4 boys B Grade. For a team who is mostly new to hockey this year, this is a great achievement. The CBS Magic team made up of Abby Duncan, Grace Duncan, Daniella Hall, Ashley Brown, Holly Karathanasis, Maddy Ford, Drew Briggs and Carla Pethers-Boak had an outstanding season finishing second in the Year 3 and 4 Girls B Grade by only 1 point! Well done girls!

The Year 3 and 4 Boys and Girls A Grade were both won by CBS teams. Congratulations to Taylor Haslemore, Sasha Roberts, Sarah Son, Mikayla Crawford, Anya Young, Victoria Lane and Hannah Moore of the CBS Storm for winning the Year 3 and 4 girls A Grade. (CBS Storm pictured on the right)

The CBS Eagles team was made up of Cameron Maunder, Alex Logan, Max Gulliver, Callum Walker, Cameron McGlashan, Cambell Brighouse, Josh Ford and Lucas Day had an exceptional season, not losing a game and winning the Year 3 and 4 Boys A Grade. (CBS Eagles pictured on the left)

The Harbour Hockey Junior Prize Giving is coming up this Thursday evening and 6 of our teams and a coach have been invited to attend to accept awards. What an amazing achievement! PS. A reminder that the winter hockey prize giving for CBS will be this Thursday, 25 September, 11.30am in the PA Room.

Summer Hockey Summer Hockey team lists will be sent home later this week. Holiday Hockey Programme North Harbour Hockey run a holiday programme for Years 1-8. It is on Monday 6 October at the North Harbour Hockey Stadium Paul Matthews Road Albany. It runs from 9.00m to 3.00pm and costs $50 per player. Details and registration forms can be found on the North Habour Hockey website.

CBS Hats Given the recent weather I realise it requires quite a stretch of the imagination to conceive there will come a time when sun hats will be required but we can always hope! From the first day of the fourth term (13 October) it is a requirement that the CBS hat is worn when children are outside when at school. The CBS hat can be purchased from NZ Uniforms in Orbit Drive Albany and it costs $15. Given there will be nearly 800 such hats at school on any one day, please make sure your child's hat is clearly marked with their name. Thanks.
