From your President a word from the PREZ... February is here already and there is lots of activity at your Association and we want you to be an integral part of it.
Lynn Mooney
Are you ready for the Spring selling season? When was the last time you reviewed your personal marketing materials in light of your brand? Does your brand reflect you? Does it accurately reflect you as a professional REALTOR®? Or are you thought of as just a real estate agent? Send an email to lynn@lynnmooney.com to request a copy of Your Personal Brand Marketing Workbook published by The Real Estate Book.
You are so much more than just a real estate agent – take the time to promote and convey what you do for your prospects and clients. Be personal and let them know how much you care about them as a person first and then about how you can assist them with their real estate needs. You are their dream maker and the rewards will follow. The new ad campaign from the National Association of Realtors® is about Real People (not actors). The Real People campaign explains to consumers why REALTORS®, now more than ever before, are essential to helping them realize their real estate dreams. As most people begin their home search online, serious buyers need access to the most accurate, up-to-date information. Realtor.com is the most accurate online real estate portal, and REALTORS® have the local market insights and experience necessary for success. The ad airs on national television on February 8th. REALTORS® and realtor.com: Together, we make home happen. Make your reservation today for the February 11th session on Taxes and the Independent Contractor. Help protect your hard earned dollars: http://www.cparfl.com/reservations.html. Watch your email inbox for upcoming educational programs with CE credits. Do you really know about the Realtor Party of which you are a member? We will be having an informational workshop soon to clarify your involvement and that of the Association. REQUEST: The Association has outgrown its current location and is in search of larger space in the Wesley Chapel area. For additional details, contact Lynn Mooney at lynn@lynnmooney.com or call 813-918-0380.
Happy Valentine’s Day…
Lynn
Abraham Lincoln gave us the following quotes: 1. You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift. 2. You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong. 3. You cannot help small men up by tearing big men down. 4. You cannot help the poor by destroying the rich. 5. You cannot lift the wage-earner up by pulling the wage-payer down. 6. You cannot keep out of trouble by spending more than your income. 7. You cannot further the brotherhood of man by inciting class hatred. 8. You cannot establish sound social security on borrowed money. 9. You cannot build character and courage by taking away a man’s initiative and independence. 10. You cannot help men permanently by doing for them what they could and should do for themselves. 3

Community CommunityOutreach Outreach Trinity Café Volunteer Lunch CPAR volunteers served at the Trinity Café in Tampa on January 14, 2015. The Trinity Café serves hot, delicious and nutritious meals to the homeless, working poor, and hungry. This volunteer effort was coordinated by Ruth Peeples of First American Title Insurance Company. Thank you to all of the CPAR volunteers who served lunch: Ruth Louise Richardson Peeples, Event Coordinator (First American Title Insurance Company); Louise Richardson, Consumer Louise Richardson Outreach Chairperson (Pro-Active Real Estate); Dwight McDonald (International Realty Plus); Adam Jonas (Gulf Coast Executive Realty); Rick Sandon (Sandon Mortgage Group); Mary Turner (Mason Title & Escrow Company); Vicki Derbes (Berkshire Hathaway Florida Properties); and Dawn Kessler (Berkshire Hathaway Florida Properties). This was truly an enlightening experience for us all. We thoroughly enjoyed our time at the Trinity Café, and look forward to doing this again. You will have the chance to serve, too, as we have another volunteer lunch scheduled for March 26th at 11 a.m. Please contact Louise Richardson at outreach@cparfl.com to sign up. Think about it; anyone can just write a check for charity, a faceless gesture. Why not instead give your time? You can experience what the charity is all about. I actually got a sincere hug from one of our diners as he got up to leave. Nothing could compare to that feeling!

Metropolitan Ministries The Metropolitan Ministries was grateful for the food collections from CPAR last month. It was such a success that we, at CPAR, will continue this activity all year round. We will have a collection box for non-perishable food items at each and every CPAR event. So, please, remember those who are less fortunate than us when attending CPAR functions and events. These events are planned so that we can all improve our businesses. Let’s share the prosperity! This endeavor is being supervised by our own eager-to-please AE, Vanessa Frost. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact her at Food Drive Committee: Vanessa@cparfl.com. Ruth Peeples, Vicki Derbes, Louise Richardson
Angel Tree Under the direction of our own Vicki Derbes, CPAR Treasurer, some of our local less fortunate children had gifts under their trees this year. While wrapped gifts are always welcome, the best way to support this project is by donating cash for the cause. This way, the volunteers can shop for gifts that will fit the specific needs for these children and youths. While this is traditionally a Holiday project, Vicki will accept donations all year. Got an extra $10 in your pocket? Why not pass it along to Vicki for the benefit of our local under-privileged kids!

NAR’s REALTOR® Safety Program Expanding in 2015
FACT SHEET More than a decade ago, the NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS® launched the REALTOR® Safety Program to educate REALTORS® on the potential risks they face while on the job. Over the years, the program has produced videos, hosted webinars, created marketing materials and developed a presentation for Associations and brokers to use with their agents. Safety will continue to be an important topic for NAR. In 2015, NAR will strengthen the REALTOR® Safety Program by adding new components, updating existing resources, and increasing the marketing efforts and visibility of the program to keep safety a priority every day. Coming in 2015 In addition to a new program identity, the website, www.realtor/org/Safety, will be reorganized to enhance the user experience, making it easier to locate resources. The content of the website will also be updated accordingly to remove out-of-date information and provide current resources. NAR will introduce the Association’s Crisis Communications Checklist, a step-by-step guide that can be added to any current crisis communication plan. Compiled from input from REALTOR® Association Executives and members of the NAR Public Affairs department, this checklist will help AEs stay organized and keep their team on task with a list of actionable items to be completed in the midst of a crisis. In the spring, NAR will publish new marketing materials for your Association to use to share the message of safety with members, including web banners, posters, print ads and flyers that can be posted online, in newsletters and around the office. Also coming this spring, safety tips will be posted on NAR’s Twitter and Facebook accounts so you can easily share them with members. These image-based tips are not only perfect for social media, they can also be used in e-newsletters and posted on your website. NAR will develop a classroom safety course by the end of the first quarter. By July, the course will be available online at REALTOR® University. The online course will also be submitted for continuing education credit. A new 3-hour safety course will be offered at the REALTORS® Legislative Meetings & Trade Expo on Tuesday, May 12 from 12:303:30 pm. NAR will host safety webinars in April and September during REALTOR® Safety Month. In the fall, NAR will publish a safety booklet, compiled of safety tips submitted by REALTORS®. Look for new safety articles and videos to share with your members throughout the year. Current Resources on www.realtor.org/Safety Safety presentation materials, including PowerPoint presentation template, talking points and handouts. These tools are great for office meetings and training sessions. Office forms for REALTORS® and clients to help establish safety protocols. Archived safety webinars on such topics as personal safety, open house safety and holiday season safety tips. Videos and monthly articles to discuss during meetings and share in monthly communications. Dynamic safety widget revealing a new safety tip each week and Web banners to post on your website. Information on safety smart phone apps to download, safety products to purchase and safety experts available for safety training presentations. As part of its Window to the Law video series, NAR’s Legal department presents legal tips and best practices to take into consideration when implementing safety programs and policies to help agents stay safe. Approved Copy for General Usage
NAR’s REALTOR® Safety Program to Expand in 2015 REALTOR® safety is one resolution we can all agree on. Educate yourself about the potential dangers REALTORS® can face on the job with the resources available in the REALTOR® Safety Program. From videos to safety app recommendations for your smartphone to educational webinars, NAR is serious about your safety. There’s a lot more in store for the REALTOR® Safety Program this year too. New resources will be introduced throughout the year, including a new safety course, safety tips, videos and more. Be sure to visit www.realtor.org/Safety often so you don’t miss a thing. Florida Realtors announces new CEO ORLANDO, Fla., Jan. 29, 2015 – Bill Martin, the chief executive officer of Michigan Realtors®, is joining Florida Realtors® as its new CEO, beginning March 23, 2015. Martin, 61, will be based at Florida Realtors’ Orlando headquarters. He holds the Realtor association Certified Executive (RCE) designation, earning recognition for specialized industry knowledge as well as association achievements and experience. “This opportunity is very exciting and I look forward to joining a high-performance and high-powered organization like Florida Realtors,” Martin says. “Florida Realtors is internationally recognized and anyone would want to work with such a stellar group.” 2015 Florida Realtors President Andrew Barbar, a broker with Keller Williams Realty Services in Boca Raton, welcomes the new CEO to the state association. “His knowledge, skills and expertise will be invaluable to Florida Realtors and our members across the state,” Barbar says. “We’re ready to put him to work!” Martin has been CEO of the Michigan association for the past 14 years. His extensive resume includes serving in the U.S. Army with the famed 101st Airborne Division, then as a trooper with the Michigan State Police. In 1987, Martin was elected to the Michigan House of Representatives serving Calhoun County, a position he held for four terms. In 1995, then-Michigan Governor John Engler appointed him Commissioner of the Michigan State Lottery; and in 1999 appointed him director and CEO of the state’s largest department, the Michigan Department of Corrections. In that position, Martin managed 19,000 employees and oversaw a $1.7-billion budget. When he heard about the top job opening at Michigan Realtors, he jumped at the chance. Why? “It was an opportunity for me and my Bill Martin family to develop lifelong friendships across the country,” Martin says. “There were two times in my earlier life where Realtors were important. One was when I was a state trooper, and a Realtor was vital to a criminal case. And in my pre-election life, the Realtors were the first organization to endorse me. My first fundraiser was a complete bust – no one came – but when the Realtors endorsed my campaign, they helped to launch my political success.” 2015 Michigan Realtors President Gene Szpeinski says Florida Realtors will benefit from Martin’s talents and leadership. “We have been blessed to have Bill as our leader since 2002,” he says. “He’s been magnificent for our organization – not only has he helped to create our position and our presence in the state, he has elevated our presence and reputation at the national level.” Martin is a past board member of the Michigan Chamber of Commerce, Habitat for Humanity and a Trustee Emeritus at Western Michigan University, his alma mater. In 2014, Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder appointed him to the State Officers Compensation Commission. Also in 2014, the National Association of Realtors® (NAR) honored Martin with the William R. Magel Award of Excellence, which is a highly coveted award presented annually to an individual who has truly excelled as an association executive. Source: media.floridarealtors.org

Please keep our members Toby and Peter Caroline and their family in your thoughts and prayers. Their daughter-in-law, Jeanne Caroline, passed away Saturday morning (Feb. 7) after a long battle with cancer. Memories hold those we’ve loved forever in our hearts... Tech Help Corner What security protections, if any, would you use on your Wi-Fi router and why? (A) Turn on encryption in Wi-Fi router. Without encryption in Wi-Fi router, anyone nearby will be able to connect to your Wi-Fi router and use your internet connection for free and can control your Wi-Fi router, etc. If some old PC or old Wi-Fi capable devices, such as smart TV, etc. only support WEP, I will have to use WEP encryption David Chen in Wi-Fi router. Otherwise, I will use WPA2 or WPA with AES Pre Shared Key for encryption in Wi-Fi router. Although WPA2 enterprise encryption is better than WPA2 Pre Shared Key, I will not use WPA2 enterprise encryption because it requires to run a radius server which takes extra operation time and additional hardware cost. (B) Keep Wi-Fi router firmware updated to the most current version, which fixes most of bugs and security vulnerabilities. (C) Use no default user id/password of the Wi-Fi router web interface, and only allow LAN side (not allow Internet side) to access the Wi-Fi router web interface. 11

Before you go... Chocolate: All About That Taste This pair of chocolate desserts is so easy and inexpensive to make, that you can bake both for your sweetie this Valentine's Day. Or, make them your new impressive go-to's for birthdays, bake sales, dinner parties, late night snacks or for when the fridge is bare and you need the taste of chocolate窶馬ow. Both are also easily modified for vegans by substituting almond, soy or rice milk in lieu of regular dairy milk, and vegan chocolate instead of regular chocolate.
Chocolate Pie Serves 8 to 12
1 12.3-ounce package of extra firm, silken tofu 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract 3 tablespoons milk (substitution: almond, rice or soy milk) 1 pinch sea salt 2 tablespoons maple syrup (or to taste) 1 1/2 cups dark chocolate chips (semi-sweet) 1 easy graham cracker crust, recipe to follow
Easy Graham Cracker Crust 12 graham cracker sheets 2 tablespoons brown sugar 1/4 cup melted coconut oil
Crust: Preheat the oven to 375 degrees. Place the crackers and sugar in a food processor and pulse to combine. Drizzle in the coconut oil and pulse a few more times, until the crust holds together (you can also mix the crust with your hands). Press the crust firmly into a pie pan, and bake for eight to 10 minutes, or until golden brown. Allow crust to cool.
Mixture: Transfer the tofu, vanilla, milk, sea salt and maple syrup to a food processor or blender and blend well. Melt the chips over a double boiler and add them to the tofu mix. Blend again. Assembly: Pour chocolate filling into the piecrust pan and let it set in the fridge for at least three hours. Slice and serve.
Amazon Chocolate Cake Serves 6 to 8
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa 1 teaspoon baking soda 1 cup sugar 5 tablespoons neutral oil (like corn, canola or vegetable)
1/2 teaspoon salt 1 cup cold water 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla 1 tablespoon cider or white vinegar Powdered sugar (optional, for dusting)
Heat the oven to 350 degrees. Mix together the flour, cocoa, baking soda, sugar and salt. Sift. In a separate bowl, whisk together the oil, water, vanilla and vinegar. Whisk together the wet and dry mixtures. If lumpy, whisk until smooth, or pour through a strainer into a bowl and break up the lumps by pressing them through the strainer. Mix again, and pour into a greased 9-inch round cake pan. Tap the edge of the pan against the edge of the counter several times to pop any air bubbles. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until the top springs back when pressed gently. Cool completely before removing from the pan and dusting with powdered sugar or frosting if desired.
