a word from the PREZ... There’s so much to be thankful for and excited about! November brings a lot to be thankful for, especially during Thanksgiving when we actually take the time to remember how lucky we are compared to so many other countries. November also brings us the CPAR Installation. This year we chose to have a party in appreciation of the members, and we’re celebrating because it’s CPAR’s Toby Caroline 40th Birthday! What a fun way to celebrate all three together: Installation, Member Appreciation and CPAR’s Birthday! This will be a party of all parties with loads of fun, including the “It’s All About You Photo Booth,” SnoCone Machine, Spin ‘n Win Wheel, Pick A Duck, Bean Bag Toss, Chocolate Fountain and of course the Chinese Auction! There will be drawings every 30 minutes, a 50/50 Drawing, Live Music and of course a variety of FOOD! Free to all CPAR members and only $5.00 to non-members. So mark your calendars and come join us at Pebble Creek Golf Club, November 18th starting at 5:00! Watch your emails for the invitation. The CPAR Board and Committees have been busy organizing and scheduling committees for meeting our Core Standards deadline. One of the requirements is an Outreach Program. CPAR will be reaching out to The Metropolitan Ministries with our food drive, to Hospice with donations of food, clothing and household items, an Angel Tree (which will be set up at the Installation), and the Trinity Café to help serve food. We will be sending more information to all members on each of the programs. The Officers and Directors of CPAR are always trying to find ways to make your Association a better one. We have worked hard together with Vanessa, our wonderful AE, these past few months to restructure our purpose and will continue to progress with your continued help and support. We also have CPAR’s Young Professionals Network being organized. Watch for details. We are constantly looking for a meeting place that is in Central Pasco that can meet our monthly meeting requirements. Most of the locations that can accommodate us want to charge a large rental fee as well as require each attendee to order food. We want to give our members quality meetings at a quality location with quality food, and at the same time keep the members’ cost low. I welcome any suggestions from our membership if you know of any Central Pasco location that can meet the above. We have lots of wonderful updates coming in 2015, so stay with us and see why CPAR continues to be the best. And remember: Bigger is not always Better! I’ll see you at the INSTALLATION-BIRTHDAY PARTY on November 18th!!!!!

Your Prez, Toby

Put a Surprise Inside: The Cracker Jack Principle from The 9 1/2 Principles of Innovative Service by Chip R. Bell Service with surprise is like a box of Cracker Jack. It was not the cool box or the caramelized popcorn we craved—it was the free prize inside. While the prize had little economic value, its emotional value was priceless. Surprise breaks the monotony of ho-hum, communicates a caring attitude, and fosters an infectious spirit that customers cannot wait to narrate to others. Some companies have the principle of including the Cracker Jack surprise down pat. Zappos is ranked #2 in the U.S. in customer service. It also has “Create Fun and a Little Weirdness” as one of its core values. Zappos sent a bouquet of flowers to a loyal customer after the call center operator learned she had just had an emergency appendectomy. Miller Brothers, Ltd., an upscale men’s clothing store in Atlanta, has “sophisticated fun” as one of its hallmark values. And the proof? A colorful gumball machine sits on a small table in the store’s entrance foyer. Beside it is a large bowl of bright shiny pennies. Guess where Junior goes while daddy is trying on trousers? What can you do to apply the Cracker Jack Principle? Pretend the service that you deliver is like your customer’s birthday. The best gifts are those that contain a delightful surprise. Put on your “little kid” creative hat and consider ways to make your service silly, funny, whimsical or quaint. Better yet, ask a kid for ideas! Like Cracker Jack, position the surprise in a way that heightens the astonishment and amazement. “Being on par in terms of price and quality only gets you into the game. Service wins the game.” ~Tony Alessandra

Please bring nonperishable and canned foods to any CPAR events from now through Dec. 31. We are partnering with Metropolitan Ministries, a charity serving poor and homeless families in Hillsborough, Pinellas, Pasco and Polk counties.
