“April is a great month. April 1st – aah, April Fool’s Day!”

I hope that you will be able to have some fun with the day and fool some of your friends. I love April. April showers bring May flowers. I would like to thank all of you that came to the March General Meeting held at the Copperstone Professional Office Building at 3632 Land O’ Lakes Blvd., Land O Lakes. We had a great turn out for the first meeting. It was nice to see some new faces in the room, along with some that we haven’t seen in quite awhile. It was especially nice to see a lot more Realtors®. Everyone seemed to really enjoy the power point presentation by David Arnold, Well Construction Manager for SWFWMD on sinkholes, how they form and why we seem to be having so many. Having the large screen and the equipment to make the overhead presentation was so handy and made everything for our speaker much easier. I also want to thank all of you for singing Happy Birthday to me and sharing some birthday cupcakes. It was fun and I appreciated the thoughtfulness. Our next GMM on April 10th will also be held at Copperstone with two great speakers. Watch for the flyers that will be sent out with the topics and the speakers. Don’t miss it! Our Education Committee has lined up speakers for the next several months with topics that are sure to be of interest of all of us. The Matrix and the Military Designation are just a couple of the classes that will be offered. Now, I have a favor to ask of you: We need your input as to the how you feel about the March meeting that was held at Copperstone vs. Pebble Creek, as the catered food vs. the plated food, the price and the speaker. We are trying to see if the location of our meetings and the price of the luncheons will make a difference for Realtor and Affiliates involvement. We would love to hear from those of you that attended the March GMM. Remember, it is your Association and we welcome your feedback and suggestions.

MARCH 13th We had an extremely well attended (packed house!) for our program “Sinkholes...The Facts You Need to Know” by David N. Arnold, P.G. Well Construction Manager Southwest Florida Water Management District (SWFMD). It was incredibly informative and entertaining giving us a tremendous amount of knowledge on sinkholes and their development. His videos were amazing to see the actual events and causes as well as the Sulphur Springs dive. Did you know that: • Florida was covered by water at one time and was a bunch of islands. Water receeded to 300’ less than current levels and Florida coasts extended well beyond our current coast line. Indian artifacts and camps have been discovered miles off the coastline underwater. • Our Aquifer system is limestone, clay and layers of sand and filling. South of Ocala, our water comes from the Polk County Green Swamp. We have more springs than any other state.

• Florida receives 150 billion gallons of rainfall per day. Majority of lakes in Florida were originally sinkholes. “Throats” open up and drain lakes. Throats can fill up and become lakes again. 1981 Winter Park sinkhole largest sinkhole on record over 100 feet deep. Swallowed a Porsche dealership.

• If you suspect a sinkhole, there is no recourse through SWFMD or the State. If it is a small hole in your yard you can fill it with sand and mound like a baseball pitcher mound to keep rain out. It is the responsibility of the owner to mitigate the sinkhole. You can hire a sinkhole company, make sure they have a geo-technical engineer. • Cover collapse is the most common types of sinkholes in Florida. They can happen on hills or level surfaces. Sinkholes usually need a “trigger” event like: • lower water tables • excessive groundwater pumpage • construction activities (drilling, vibrating) • suface loading • heavier rainfall • traffic vibration • even a leaking pool or reservoir • can expand during mitigation If you want more information go to, Florida Geological Survey www.Dep.State.FL.US or Swiftmud (SWFMD) at www.watermatters.org go to hydrology to sinkholes for info.

The Process January 2014: Data mapping and internal (staff) testing and review will begin, continuing through February. February 2014: Member testing will begin with a small pre-established group of members, with the expectation to expand that group further in March. March 2014: Member and staff testing continues, covering all system functionality, business rules, browser/ device capabilities and more. The MFR Board of Directors will review progress for readiness based on input from the staff and the test group. If everything is a “go,” watch for the launch of Matrix to all members in April. April 2014: A tentative launch of Matrix is scheduled during the week of April 21, 2014. Sneak previews, pre-training, videos and training schedules will all be coming your way in future months. May 2014: Launch of the listing maintenance module in Matrix and training continues. Both MLXchange and Fusion will be fully accessible throughout the transition process. MLS Updates … from Lynn Mooney Watch for the announcement of the training sessions on Matrix (your proposed new MLS software). There will be 4 sessions in May. As soon as they are confirmed, you will be notified and they will be posted to the CPAR calendar on www.cparfl.com. Expected Closing Date, Other MLS System Changes – February 18 Effective Tuesday, February 18, the following changes will be made in the MLS System. These changes will apply to all current and future listings. These changes are, in part, a result of member feedback – you spoke, we listened! • Pet Fields If Pets Allowed Y/N field is set to No, then all other pet-related fields will be locked for editing, regardless of the property type. • Expected Closing Date The Expected Closing Date field will change its maximum window of time, allowing a date to be entered that is no more than 12 months in the future. • Withdrawn Listing Status - Updated 2.14.14 UPDATE: This change has been temporarily placed on HOLD for further review and will not take place on February 18th as previously communicated. Some Agents and Registered Assistants who do not have Broker-level access will no longer be able to put a listing into Withdrawn status or change the status of a Withdrawn listing. This change will not affect everyone, and is being made in order to protect Brokers and their respective listings. Nothing will change if you have been granted the appropriate level of authorization by your Broker to add and edit listings for your entire office or company. As always, if you have any questions about these changes please do not hesitate to contact the MFRMLS Call Center at 1-800-686-7451 (option #1) or email Support@mfrmls.com.
