Here at the Lyric, we believe in creating thrilling, multi-dimensional theatre that captures your imagination. Last season we collaborated with Vesturport, Frantic Assembly and Melly Still to bring you enthralling live experiences. This season we once again bring together some of the most inspiring theatremakers around — artists from Shunt, Gecko, Stan Won’t Dance and Blind Summit, and companies such as Wishbone and Signal to Noise — to bring you stories of ghosts, angels, dragons and love. We’re also excited to be launching the first Lyric Young Company season in July, when budding 14-19 year olds from all over West London take over the Lyric with two exciting new shows. We hope to see you here soon. David Farr Artistic Director

Joining forces with collaborators including Amit Lahav (Gecko), Blind Summit (Anthony Minghella’s Madame Butterfly, Low Life) and leading light of the Asian music scene, Shri (of Badmarsh & Shri), Farr creates a highly physical and visually stunning new adaptation that takes you on a heady journey from the darkness of the jungle to the lights of Diwali.

Adapted by Nell Leyshon Based on Don’t Look Now by Daphne du Maurier Conceived and directed by Lucy Bailey Do you believe in ghosts? Following the death of their young daughter, John and Laura visit Venice to try to escape their grief. But when the couple meet two aged sisters, one of whom claims to have psychic visions of the dead girl, strange things start to happen. Tension mounts as John and Laura are led through a maze of canals and alleyways towards a dark and terrifying climax. The Unholy and Illustrious History of

Created by beggarsbelief Do you believe in dragons? England. The umpteenth century. A baby is born with curious birthmarks: a cross, and what appears to be a dragon. This strange boy is possessed of unusual powers and has one simple conviction: he must kill a dragon. So begins a quest that takes him to the extremities of the known world, taking on Saracen armies and wading through blood and fire. Will he ever find the dragon he seeks?

‘The actions and invention are such fun, for young and old.’ The Times ‘Superb special effects… dazzling.’ HHHHH Birmingham Mail

Teenagers are blowing away the cobwebs of post-war life — the absolute beginners are creating the world anew. A Vespa-riding young photographer takes a trip through the gritty and glamorous streets of West London chasing the love of his life. But behind the jazz, sex and drugs of the new age lies a simmering cauldron of racial hatred that threatens to ignite at any moment.

Part One: Millennium Approaches Part Two: Perestroika By Tony Kushner Do you believe in angels? An epic story of divine intervention, Angels in America is one of the defining works of 20th century drama. In a New York turned upside down by the chaotic energy of the 1980s and the destructive terror of AIDS, Tony Kushner’s Pulitzer Prize winner weaves together private and public Reagan-era lives in a vivid dissection of relationships, of survival and of faith — of all that makes us human.

Created by Madrugada Leo Kay’s first show for his new physical performance company, Madrugada, is directed by B-boy and hip hop theatre pioneer Benji Reid, last at the Lyric with 13 Mics/The Pugilist.

A man flips out and searches a city for the owner of a receipt. Is he a hero or an idiot? The hit of the Edinburgh Fringe 2006 (Fringe First and Total Theatre Awards), The Receipt is a witty exploration of the absurdities of modern life told by two men, a filing cabinet and a Moog, created by Will Adamsdale (Jackson’s Way) and sonic artist Chris Branch.

Fusing text, physical performance and a striking set by surreal theatre-makers Faulty Optic, this magical show tells the story of self-proclaimed architect Mr Sole Abode. Unable to function under the stresses and strains of contemporary material society, he chooses to opt out of a life valued by possessions — and to live in a fridge instead. Created by Dende Collective Created by Wishbone

Journey to the dusty drylands of the North East Brazilian outback, far away from the exotic beaches of Copacabana. In a world of poverty and ignorance, two people fall wildly in love…

Integrating movement, text, design and filmic influences, visual theatre-makers Wishbone create theatre that immerses you in the moment. Heralded by The Guardian as a company to watch following its award-winning debut, Scapegoat (Edinburgh Fringe 2002), Wishbone’s latest show transforms the Studio with a funny and touching story that unfolds in and around the audience.

Dende Collective, previously at the Lyric with the surreal and sensual Dona Flor and her Two Husbands and The Piranha Lounge, return with the European premiere of this award-winning play by one of Brazil’s most talented playwrights. Blending physical performance, poetry and live music, Dende create an intimate tale of mystery, prejudice and enduring love.

Somewhere in the city, surveyor Sarah works through a series of derelict properties awaiting demolition. Deep in the heart of the one of these buildings, Gary holds out against an eviction order. As their stories unravel, their private worlds are rocked by some surprising events. Are they really alone? Or is somebody else out there too?

‘Dende Collective provides a terrifying force with universal relevance.’ Metro ‘...enough moments of tropical theatrical magic in evidence here to warm the most wintered audience’s hearts’ Time Out on

Created by Signal to Noise Two scientists, stranded in the middle of nowhere — trying to make sense of the strange and hostile world around them. Nothing for company but an old wireless. But as the radio waves begin to rise up, will they sink or swim? Performed entirely without words, Longwave comes to the Lyric following an acclaimed UK tour. Directed by multi-award winning director/writer Chris Goode, creator of site-specific and theatrebased adventures including We Must Perform a Quirkafleeg! and Homemade, both performed in the homes of audience members, and the offbeat Escapology, Longwave is a seductively bleak comedy with a tender heart. And an itchy beard.
