From the General Manager, Mark Reid Membership continues to remain strong and growing. Strong membership, especially when it begins January 1, provides for a vibrant Club and the financial resources to enhance our members experience. We are looking forward to a very fun and successful year, and along the way we will be tackling more of the identifiable projects that have, in some cases, been deferred due to cash flow. We welcome all of our new members, and we look forward to an additional 30 members joining us in April and May. Our progress on evaluating outdoor dining continues. In this issue of ClubLife I am presenting to you the
We are looking forward to a very fun and successful year, and along the way we will be tackling more of the identifiable projects. concept called “Phase 1” which was presented to the Board of Directors in their February Board meeting. This concept would provide for enhancements to the Saint Andrews Pub, as well as the lower level patio that would span the length of the Pub. This Phase 1 would provide significant outdoor seating with a spectacular view of the water and golf course and would be a one third of the cost of the previously presented double level concept. Again, at this point we are just doing forward planning,
along with getting the customer feedback in order to perform our due diligence on estimated use and return on investment. We continue to advise that we make no expression that either Phase 1 or Phase 2 will be completed or the concepts may be postponed to later years or filed away. We do believe that with many different areas of improvement that can be contemplated, it must be proved that outdoor dining is a high enough priority that it would validate the significant long term investment.

As part of the due diligence process, while we receive the critical feedback from our members, the Board has directed Staff to have our Architect provide a professional opinion on the lifecycle expectations for the Clubhouse. This is currently in process, and Staff will present this information to the Board in their April meeting.

In the meantime, we are looking forward to some fabulous weather and great golf. We will be finishing tree removal on hole no. 8 and getting the fairway remediated this spring into early summer. We have some concrete sidewalk to pour by the no. 5 bathroom early this spring, as well. We will do everything possible to minimize the inconvenience to our members while these projects are active.

CHEF’S WHIM: RECIPE OF THE MONTH
Potato Nests With Easter approaching, I thought this might be a fun recipe for Easter Brunch or as an elegant appetizer. Get creative and enjoy!
Ingredients • 2 thick slices deli ham (about 4 ounces) • 16 ounces (about 3 ½ cups) frozen, shredded hash browns, thawed • Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper • 8 ounces cream cheese, room temperature
• • • • •
Finely grated zest of one lemon 2 tablespoons milk ¼ cup frozen peas 1 tablespoons chopped chives Paprika, for serving
Equipment One 12-cup mini muffin tin and one 24-cup mini muffin tin
Directions 1. Position two racks in the top and bottom thirds of the oven and preheat at 425 degrees. Spray the muffin sines with cooking spray and set aside. 2. Cut the ham into small matchsticks similar to size of the hash browns. Set aside and reserve 1/3 cup of the ham. Mix the remaining ham, hash browns, 1 teaspoon salt and some pepper in a bowl. Divide the mixture evenly among the sprayed cups, using about 1 rounded tablespoon each. Press the mixture in a thin layer across the bottom and up the sides of each cup to make a nest, leaving the edges uneven and jagged. 3. Bake, rotating the pans halfway through, until the nests are dark brown around the tips and golden and crisp on the outside, about 25 minutes. 4. Meanwhile, beat the cream cheese, lemon zest, milk, ½ teaspoon salt and some pepper together in a medium bowl with an electric mixer on medium-high speed. Scrape the mixture into a resealable plastic bag, cut off the tip and set aside. 5. When the nests are ready, remove them from the oven and let sit until they are cool enough to handle, about 10 minutes. Carefully lift the nests out of the tins and transfer to a cookie sheet. Pipe the filling evenly among the nests. This may be done ahead; the nests can be set aside at room temperature until ready to serve, up to two hours. 6. When ready to serve, heat the nests until the cream cheese is warm and the potatoes are crisp, about 7 minutes. Meanwhile bring a small pot of water to boil. Add the frozen peas and cook until they are warm, not shriveled, 5-6 minutes. Drain the peas in a colander, shaking to remove excess water. 7. Transfer nests to a serving platter. Top each with ¼ teaspoon of the reserved ham, 3 peas and about ¼ teaspoon chopped chives. Sprinkle with paprika, if desired, and serve immediately.

STEVE GRIESINGER, COURSE SUPERINTENDENT
Hopefully, by the time this reaches you, the snow and super cold weather will be history. The cold weather did give us the necessary time to grind all of our reels. All the tight cut turf is mowed with a REEL type mower. As a necessity, these reel type blades need to be ground every year. It usually takes us about 6-8 weeks to completely remove the reels, grind, re-build bearings and bushings, install knew bed knives, and put back on the machines.
Aerification is scheduled for March 29 and 30. We appreciate your patience during the necessary evil of disrupting the greens surface. Also, we will be pouring a new sidewalk to the bathrooms on #5, as we had to temporarily close the ladies room. We had to jackhammer the floor in the ladies’ side and replace the underground shut off and line that goes from the sidewalk into the building that supplies the water (argh, that is some bad luck). See you on the course!

From the LOCC Golf Club Committee EXCITEMENT OF THE 2021 SEASON
Excitement is starting to brew as we near the start of season 2021 at Lakewood Oaks Country Club. The snow and polar temperatures in February have surely given some cabin fever. We will be spending a lot of time and effort on emphasizing Player Expectations at Lakewood Oaks Country Club, which enhance the experience for everyone at our golf course. We have identified some key areas that all players, members and guests, can benefit from to heighten the overall experience. COMMUNICAITON. Communication is the absolute top priority. We continue to look for avenues to inform members and guests of daily, weekly, and monthly information. ClubLife, being one of those avenues, will now include sections regarding information from WGA (LOWGA) and MGA. With increased play, we’re looking into ways to make sure the tee time reservation process and utilization of all tee times is as efficient as possible. Communication on calendars, event results, etc. and Golf Genius will provide more immediate improvements. We expect this avenue will be in full swing in 2021. Members & Guests. Staff, members and guests communicating with each other is the rock to a solid foundation of the overall experience at Lakewood Oaks Country Club. All have the responsibility of following the current rules and regulations of golf. This action could single handily promote the best overall experience. With the upsurge of membership, a few reminders as the 2021 gets back to the new normal of the golf life. • Tee Sheet. It would be beneficial if members’ and guests’ names be listed on the tee time, not only to assist in time slots available, but also staff in their preparation of responsibilities and services. • Golf Dress/Attire. Although the dress code is currently under revisions, appropriate golf attire is required for all players at all times. Members are expected to ensure that their guests and family members adhere to such rules. If in doubt, drop by the pro shop before your tee time to inquire. • Golf Etiquette and Enforcing Course Rules. Your golf etiquette and enforcing course rules impacts the entire field of golfers. To name a couple: – Pace of play: Rule of thumb - if you can’t see and stay ½ hole behind the players in front of you, you are behind in pace. – Know where you can drive the cart. If medical flag is required, make sure you pick it up in pro shop prior to tee time. Our goal is to have everyone do their part to help keep the course in good playing condition for everyone else who has come to Lakewood Oaks Country Club to enjoy a round of golf. Your best golf experience should include thinking of other golfers and their golf experience.

Wine of the Month LIGHT HORSE
If you enjoy a red wine that is pleasurable by itself, with appetizers or paired with a meal, then you might appreciate Light Horse from the Jamieson Ranch Vineyards, located in Napa Valley, California. Best of all, this popular wine is available at The Argyle. Light Horse is a nod to the American West and to the invaluable horses that helped settle this vast and untamed region of the country. This is a wine you’ll turn to every day: classic, easydrinking and fruit-forward California varietal offers superior value and complements the foods you enjoy. Jamieson Ranch Vineyards was founded in 2011. The winery is named after the historic rancher John Brocklebank Jamieson, who helped to settle the Napa Valley. Today, they pay homage to the rich ranching tradition of the Napa Valley and American West through their wines: Double Lariat, a double lasso, and Reata, the Spanish word for Lariat. While the winery brings together rich threads of history, their winemaker brings together grapes grown in revered appellations to create unique and individual wines.
Their brands, Whiplash and Light Horse, both available at The Argyle at Lakewood Oaks Country Club, celebrate the horses that played an important role making the Napa Valley and American West what it is today.
