STEVE GRIESINGER, COURSE SUPERINTENDENT

Lately, rough mowing seems to be a hot topic in the golf course industry. I assure you that we are doing everything in our power to mow the rough as much as possible. When mowing 100 acres (which is approximately the same area as 100 football fields), the job is never done. We mow all day and are able to cover sections of the golf course. (You just have to hope that when your ball strays into the rough that it was a section that had been mowed in the last few hours). As the weather turns to a drier pattern, you will see a definite improvement with our ability to keep up with the mowing. This will help tremendously. You gotta love lush thick grass!

Home Lawn tips:

June is time for an application of insecticide for those pesky grubs. Just a tip that you might not know: if your house is getting pummeled by May and June bugs at night, it would definitely be a good idea to apply Merit (Grub Ex). The June bugs that you see are the adult stage of grubs. The process is simple: the adult hatches flies straight out of the yard and then the insect flies straight in to and/or on your screen, door, light, etc. Then the adults mate and go right back to the yard to lay eggs and NOW you have GRUBS. Then as the larvae stage grub begins munching on the turf grass root the damage will begin to show in late August through September.
