Wine of the Month
from ClubLife: June 2021
by mac-lpoa
KIM CRAWFORD SAUVIGNON BLANC
One of the newest additions to our wine cellar is a Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc (Marlborough 2020). Originating from New Zealand, this is a vital piece to any wine-lovers collection. It offers everything that can be desired – a flowering bouquet of citrus and pineapple sweetness, offering a dry yet decadent and zesty experience. Can be enjoyed at a noontime meal or under the twilight of a dinner candle.
Paired best with The Argyle’s seafood dishes, especially the Shrimp Deviled Egg, Seafood Pesto Pizza, and Seafood Cobb Salad. Try this impeccable combination during your next visit to The Argyle.

Money In/Money Out
Great influx of golf members, 320 plus!
Wouldn’t it be wonderful to run our budget like a checking account “Money In-Money Out”, obviously that cannot be the case. We all have the desire to make real change with the course and improve membership experience. We believe that opportunity will present itself more apparently in the 2022 budget.
Every October, the Board approves the budget for the following calendar year. For example, the Board set the 2021 budget in October 2020. The Board doesn’t allow the LOCC GM and Staff to increase their budget during the calendar year even when the topline revenue run rate is ahead of forecast.
One thing to remember about 2020…while we saw a spike in membership numbers that was offset by significant loss in Tournament revenue. Also, last Fall during the budget planning, no one knew how long Covid was going to linger and when the tournament revenue was going to return.
This year, we have sustained those higher membership levels and the tournament revenue is back!
We are excited about the opportunities for the future with the Club being in the healthiest position in several years.
There is temptation to compare Lakewood Oaks Country Club to area country clubs, why wouldn’t you? Lakewood Oaks has grown stronger as a club the past year, while other clubs seem to have struggled. Lakewood Oaks offers a good product for a reasonable fee. Our “good product”, will continue to improve as funds become available. At current membership levels, we should have the ability to do additional (but not endless) capital and maintenance improvements.
As for this year, you will see some continued improvements over the coming weeks based on the Board’s approved budget. Take note of the improved condition of #2 fairway with removal of trees, new drinking water systems on #5 and #15, #6 fairway improving with sod, removing bush on left side of #18 green, removing trees on #8 to improve fairway condition.
The Golf Committee feels we have a roadmap to make real meaningful change with membership support in a constructive way. The Committee is focused on getting the right momentum on the key priorities ahead of the budget process in October for the 2022 season. The Golf Committee needs your input on how to best utilize those funds. The Golf Committee supports members through its communication and direction offered to administration/board/staff with respect to the process.
