UNIVERSITY: Universidad Regiomontana, Mexico
Dra. Magneli Villanueva, Language Centre Director
Universidad Regiomontana is a leading private university located in northern Mexico, founded over 40 years ago. It offers high quality education from high school to Master's degree. It has an excellent Language Center with a committed, professional and enthusiastic team of native language teachers from various countries. Universidad Regiomontana is always looking to adopt the best possible technological tools and teaching techniques for the benefit of its students. For all our English courses we have been using the Macmillan English Campus platform for about six and a half years. Teachers use it in class and for assignments and homework. They also use it for testing and exam preparation. It provides an efficient way to present, explain, practise and evaluate the different aspects of the language covered in all the English courses. Its flexibility allows us to design our online courses to meet the specific requirements of the students and facilitate the administration of distance learning courses. Although we have labs available for students to practise, normally they use the platform in the classroom, at home, at work, or other places, this being an important feature of Macmillan English Campus. 12
Single Point Languages began in 1988, the fruit of its founders’ dream and passion for languages. Companies represent our main target audience. We have always designed training courses for groups and for individual managers, focusing our attention on customisation and on the choice of didactic material. With the same spirit and enthusiasm of those early days, Single Point Languages continues to renew itself, embracing the latest market challenges. We have been using Macmillan English Campus since March 2012 as a tool for blended learning classes, whether for groups or for individuals, for adults in-company or for young students in our summer campuses: after a short time, we’ve reached the milestone of over 800 active Campus users. The Campus helped all of us by giving us a new tool to cope with class absences and respond to the always-on-the-move life of managers and entrepreneurs, an innovative instrument to improve English language practice according to students’ own time and needs, a very complete bank of resources available to students who really want to improve their English, a large and user-friendly database answering any kind of curiosity and lack of knowledge about grammar, vocabulary, idioms and phrasal verbs: all of this in one. It gave teachers the great opportunity to make their job easier and professionally innovative. Our favourite content on the Campus are the News Items. They allow teachers and students to read fresh news and have them already didactically tailored for the customers’ level of English.

PRIVATE LANGUAGE SCHOOL: Fluency Formation, France
Kate Roussel, Founder and Manager
France
Fluency Formation is located in a small town in Picardy, and we dispense our training in and around the town of Beauvais, as well as in Paris. We offer business and general English courses in continuing education programmes, working closely with companies to develop the English levels of their workforce and equip our students with tools to carry out the tasks they need to in English. We’ve been using Macmillan English Campus for two years now. Our teachers use it regularly as a classroom tool, as the listening and video content is relevant to our student’s needs and lends itself nicely to communicative activities. Our students use it in two ways, either to complete exercises set by the teacher to reinforce points covered in class, or to focus on areas they feel they need to work on in their own time. The exercises are relatively short, so we try to encourage them to apply the “little and often” principle.
LANGUAGE INSITUTE: Instituto-Chileno-Británico de Cultura, Chile Paul Marshall, Director Departamento de Tecnologìa Educativa
As one of the largest language institutes in Chile we offer a wide range of language courses in a variety of contexts, and our learners demand a dynamic and interactive online component, either to complement face-to-face classes or in blended and distance courses. We have been using Macmillan English Campus since 2006. In most cases the platform allows us to provide extra or supplementary activities. The huge bank of resources that it provides allows us to tailor-make online courses to suit all our students, giving graded practice in reading and listening as well as multimedia grammar and language activities. Currently, the Campus is predominantly used as a parallel (standalone) component, but we are looking to increase the number of opportunities to integrate the platform more deeply into course curricula. Teachers and learners receive instant recorded feedback, and the range of reports and logs of student activity available helps to enrich our evaluative processes. The activities collected together for each course can be tailored to the level of the student, but access to the platform also provides teachers and students with access to the full extent of the resource bank, premium dictionary and grammar resources. The activity bank is continually being refreshed and augmented, and Macmillan are very responsive and are quick to act on requests for extra material, training or technical support. English Campus has become an invaluable tool and an integral part of our institute’s educational services.
We pride ourselves on providing tailor-made courses and the wealth of resources on Macmillan English Campus means that there really is something for everyone. The Markbook is great for giving students an overview of their own progress and help them to develop their self-analysis. It also means we can keep an eye on who’s doing their homework! We deal with busy people who don’t have as much time as they’d like to devote to their English training. Macmillan English Campus is easily accessible and user-friendly. People can log in for as short a time as they like and still complete some exercises, read an article, play some games or dip into Culture World. www.macmillanenglishcampus.com
