Here at MEDIA ARTS CENTER SAN DIEGO, we are proud to partner with many various organizations to bring you the best in programming and the latest in the field of digital arts. September showcases these partnerships, with several opportunities to get involved in our world, either as a spectator and lover of film, or a creative making something spectacular. With film offerings that range from “Un Cuento Chino”, to HBO’s free screening of “The Latino List: Volume Two”, to our annual series of free Que Viva! Cine Latino screenings at Otay Ranch Town Center, there are plenty of opportunities to see some great films this month. If you’re in North County, you can hop over to Escondido for their second year of Cine en el Parque, another free series of films held each Saturday in September. With all these films, perhaps we should re-name the month Silver Screen September! We hope to see you at one, or all of these events.
For filmmakers, ITVS has a funding opportunity called the Diversity Development Fund. We are always looking for ways that local filmmakers can get their films made, and this is a great chance for some funding. For those who still want to learn, we have a great lineup of workshops in September, from the Journalism Photography class, to a class in building optical toys. How much fun is that? If you have a child and you’re looking for activities you can do together, “Build Your Own Optical Toy” is a great workshop to start with. As always, we hope to help filmmakers, and educate people who just want to learn a bit more about digital arts, all while having fun. So when your kids are going off to school this month, don’t forget about all the great digital arts programs we have to participate in. We’d love to see you here and share our love for film and art with you! -Lisa Franek Artistic Director,
