CINEMA
Grabbers Aug 2, 3 An idyllic remote Irish island is invaded by enormous bloodsucking tentacled creatures from the sea. With islanders turning up decapitated and drained of blood, the inhabitants learn that the creatures— called Grabbers—are allergic to alcohol, making intoxicated people toxic to eat. Overrun and under attack, the hopeless locals realize that in order to stay alive through a storm that’s keeping everyone trapped on the island, they’re going to have to band together at the pub and do their best to survive the night.

INTRODUCING: ANDREW BRAKEN Introducing Andrew Bracken, Recipient of Creative Catalyst Fellowship Recipient of Creative Catalyst Fellowship for 2013-2014
for 2013-14
MACSD is proud to announce that Andrew Bracken’s web documentary project 18 Bakers was selected as one of ten projects to be part of the San Diego Foundation’s Creative Catalyst Fellowship (CCF) program for 201314. MACSD is proud to be partnering with Andrew as he creates an interactive transmedia documentary project looking at immigration and border issues in the San Diego-Tijuana region. The project aims to examine an immigration raid on a San Diego bakery in 2008, as well as how living in a border community affects our lives and communities. Andrew Bracken is a digital media artist and producer who has worked in both the film and video game industries for over 15 years. He is interested in exploring new forms of documentary storytelling and media creation, particularly with transmedia and interactivity. His documentary works include To the Other Side, a film about an American expatriate who deserted the U.S. Army in the 1950s and fled to the Iron Curtain to settle in East Germany, and Chicago, an experimental audio documentary. He was selected for the Berlinale Talent Campus in 2004 as part of the Berlinale Film Festival and video game projects on which he has worked have won and been nominated for or won multiple awards, including Interactive Arts and Sciences awards. His video game credits include LittleBigPlanet Karting, Pinball Heroes, and MLB The Show. Andrew will be spending time working at the Digital Gym, so if you see him please say hi! One key element of the project is participation from the local community, and he is excited to collaborate with community members on both sides of the border to be a part of 18 Bakers.
