We’ll also connect with old friends and new, and continue to experience the marvel of relationships that truly occupy our hearts, and encourage us to reach out within our communities. During the past 19 years, I hope you all have had the opportunity as we have to meet the incredible 9&0&,&'(#/7,*%0#/'5#2.33/4"%08#0,/::8#9*.+',""%08#7*33+'&,)#;/%,'"%08#/'5# other audience members who join together in this annual celebration of Latino Cinema. Such a unique relationship was built between the Media Arts Center San Diego (MACSD) organization and our Director of Operations, Rhonda Valencia. Rhonda infused an energy within the organization that motivates +0#"/7-#5/)#,*#%"<&'9&(*%/,"#*+%#3&00&*'=#>"%#2"%7"#$/,,."#/(/&'0,#7/'7"%# emboldens us to wage war against the causes of the disease. Every year, San Diego Latino Film Festival showcases international 2.308# /'5# :*7+0"0# *'# /# ;/%,&7+./%# 7*+',%)=# O-&0# )"/%8# D"# 5"7&5"5# ,*# $%&'(#*+%#:*7+0#-*3"#$)#0-*D7/0&'(#2.30#3/5"#$)#1/,&'*0#-"%"#&'#,-"# United States. The 2010 Census reported that between 2000 and 2010, the Latino population accounted for over half the growth of the total population in the United States. However, we still see a disparity between ,-*0"#'+3$"%0#/'5#,-"#'+3$"%0#*:#1/,&'*0#&'#2.3#/'5#,"."9&0&*'=# From March to November of 2010, a total of 380 guests and commentators participated in ABC This Week, CBS Face the Nation, FOX News Sunday, and NBC Meet the Press. Only 12 of these were Hispanic. PREMIO CORAZÓN SALVADOR BARAJAS Salvador Barajas was born in Nio, Sinaloa, Mexico. He spent his youth in Tijuana and at the age of 18 he and his family moved to San Diego. Subsequently, he joined the U.S. Air Force where he worked as a technical illustrator. After successfully completing his military service, Sal graduated from Los Angeles TradeTechnical College as an advertising designer. His art training was enhanced by attending The Academy of Arts in San Francisco and San Diego State University. For the following 25 years, Sal worked as a designer/art director for several design studios, inhouse art departments, and advertising agencies in Los Angeles and San Diego. Sal has shared his skills with his San Diego community by contributing artwork for the Centro Cultural De la Raza, Chicano Park Steering Committee, and other community institutions. Sal has owned Motivational Designs since 1996, a business that produces illustrated messages that assist teachers with promoting education and give students an appreciation of their heritage. FLORIE PARENTHOUX Florie Parenthoux is a 24year old artist from Annecy, France. Ms. Parenthoux is currently completing a B.A. in graphic design and digital media from University of Greenwich in London. Her /%,&0,&7#&'N+"'7"0#&'7.+5"#'*,"5#S%&,&0-#(%/;-&7#5"0&('"%#a/+(-'# G.&9"%# /'5# [/'&0-# 2.33/4"%# 1/%0# 9*'# O%&"%=# E0=# I/%"',-*+@# believes graphic design should be used to inspire and touch people’s emotions, something she tries to achieve with her own work. Ms. Parenthoux discusses her thematic interests and artistic process: “Through my design I wanted to make the audience feel the heat and color of Latin American culture. I used paper /'5# ;/&',# ,*# %"/.&A"# ,-"# N*D"%08# D-&."# ,-"# %"0,# &0# *'.)# /# $&,# *:# Photoshop image manipulation.
