He has the supervisory charge of all of the group’s businesses and is the executive head of all expansion and diversification programmes. With extensive relationships in the trade and government, S Gurdeep Singh Chadha is preceded by his reputation.

MULTIPLEXES Wave Inc. has launched its own brand of luxury multiplexes, Wave Cinemas, with a vision to redefine the segment by introducing concepts and technologies nascent in the Indian market. Wave Cinemas currently has 8107 seats and 28 screens operating in New Delhi, Noida, Kaushambi, Lucknow, Ludhiana, Moradabad and Haridwar. Wave Cinemas has collaborated with the biggest global players to develop superior infrastructure and technology. Wave Inc. was born out of successes of early ventures in sugar manufacturing. Over the decades, Wave Inc. has diversified its portfolio but sugar and its ancillaries have remained key elements and are still the backbone of the manufacturing arm. In fact, the growth of Wave Inc. can be linked to the growth of sugar manufacturing industry in India. Manufacturing sites have proliferated since and include verticals like power and distillation, giving Wave Inc. comprehensive capabilities. Power generation and export and the liquor manufacturing businesses have both emerged as rapidly growing, highly profitable marketing segments, and have become focal sectors in themselves. Today, Wave Inc. manufacturing has grown to include paper manufacturing and a bottling plant running operations as a franchisee of Coca Cola India. 036

COCA COLA BOTTLING PLANT The Wave Inc. Beverages plant is one of the nine franchises of Coca Cola India Ltd. that is equipped with both hot and cold bottling facilities. The plant produces many soft drinks of popular brands consumed in the country and its capacity is RGB-600 BPM, Mazza-320 BPM and Pet-80 BPM.

PAPER MANUFACTURING Chadha Papers Ltd. was set up at Bilaspur, Uttaranchal, in 1992 with a capacity of 9559 MT. Today, with a capacity of 78,550 MT and the ability to manufacture kraft and semi-kraft paper, Chadha Papers is one of the largest paper plants. The site also produces writing, printing copier and newsprint paper. Recently, Chadha Paper Ltd. acquired another paper mill – Manorama Papers.

043 Wave Industries Pvt. Ltd., Dhanaura, Uttar Pradesh, has a crushing capacity of 8,300 TCD with 30 MW co-generation, 23 MW export. The company was incorporated in 1997 followed by the acquisition of a sugar mill in Dhanaura. In 2007, the company established a 30 MW co-generation power plant and is exporting 23 MW to UPSEB. The capacity of the production facility has now been increased to 8,300 TCD with plans to expand it to 10,000-12,000 TCD. The investment in infrastructure and technology has led the company to achieve a turnover of ` 175.38 crore during 2006-7, an increase of 106 per cent in a short four year period. Another production facility is AB Sugars Ltd., Dasuya, Uttar Pradesh, with a crushing capacity of 7,500 TCD, generating power of 33MW with 25MW power export.

Wave Industries Pvt. Ltd., located at Dhanaura, aims to establish a distillery under its banner with a capacity of 80KL/PD and increase power generation capacity to 60 MW. AB Sugars Ltd. in Dasuya, Punjab, is a molasses-based distillery with a total capacity of 60KL/PD with an integrated power plant of 5.5MW. The company operates a 7,500 TCD sugar plant at Hoshiarpur, Punjab, producing self-branded, high-quality IMFL for retail in the states of Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and Delhi. The facility houses a potable alcohol distillery with a capacity of 3 million cases. There’s also a cogeneration power plant on the site, producing 33 MW of electricity, taking care of the needs of facility and allowing for the export of 25 MW. Plans are in place to expand the sugar capacity to 10,000 TCD and power generation to 50 MW. A 2,00,000 case capacity brewery is being setup at the site to make it a complete unit. A grain-based distillery, AB Grains Spirits Pvt. Ltd., Gurdaspur, Punjab, with a total capacity of 120 KL/PD with an integrated power plant of 5.5 MW. To further the vision of the group, a ` 111 crore expansion plan has been commissioned at the site in Gurdaspur, Punjab, to setup a 120KL/PD plant that will employ advanced technology to ensure production of a premium quality product, in keeping with the highest global standards.

In addition to the manufacturing side, the company is also planning to launch its own brand of alcohol. The pilot phase commencing in Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu will be succeeded by a countrywide launch after the evaluation process is completed. The site will also be home to an integrated power plant with a capacity of 5.5 MW, for both captive use as well as export to the state electricity board. A total project outlay of ` 300 crore will see the site expanding to include a sugar plant with 5,000 TCD and co-generation power unit, making a diversified and highly productive industrial site. The newly-acquired distillery near Aligarh, UBIO Chemicals Ltd., with 90 KL/PD capacity with power plant of 2 MW for captive use. Increase in power generation and power export is envisaged for this unit as well.

EXTENDING WINGS Wave Group’s Delhi franchise in Hockey India League
The Wave Group has taken up the Delhi franchise in the much-hyped Hockey India League (HIL), making it the fourth of the six teams which are competing in the tournament that took off in January this year. This is the group’s maiden foray in the world of sports. Hockey India Secretary-General and HIL Chairman Narinder Batra said the entry of Wave Group into Indian sports augured well for hockey. “We believe that the Delhi franchise is in very good hands,” he said, adding, “We are pleased that we are moving towards establishing Hockey India League as the world’s best.” Wave Group had been waiting an opportunity like this to make their foray into sports. And with the Delhi franchise the group has added to their impressive portfolio of businesses including sugar manufacturing, distilleries, paper manufacturing, real estate and multiplexes and retail management.
