The Story The arrival of a mystery gift with a “do not open till i’m home” tag provokes curiosity and impatience as a girl struggles to decide if she cares to follow instructions from her mystery gift giver.

The Process

Written Storyboard 1. Blank Screen - knock at door, door opening onto:

4. Close Up - gift set center on table.

2. Birdseye View - gift on front porch, well manicured hands take box out of frame.

3. Worms eye View - looking up a centered stairway, shoes step into focus before turning to ascend.

5. Birdseye - same well manicured hands flip tag to read “do not open till i’m home”.

Continued Storyboard 6. Medium Shot - (neck down & from behind) girl stomps foot, exits shot.

9. High Angle Shot - girl in hat, holding gift running down the stairs.

7. Medium Shot Time-lapse - objects move around stationary gift as girl passes and lingers around the table in different outfits to signal the time passing.

10. Birdseye View - girl on front steps holding gift, waiting, shows interest when people walk by, none approach her, light change signals time passing.

8. Close Up - girl swipes gift off table.

Continued Storyboard 11. Close Up - the girl starts to open gift, then a hand that is not her own stops her.

12. Birdseye View - girl jumps up and gives an excited hug to the new character, the two let go and look at each other, the new character gestures towards the front door.

13. Two Shot (from behind) - new character lovingly ushers girl up the front steps, tracking shot or zoom of couple walking to front door until they shut the door behind them, cutting to black, then rolling credits.

Mood Board

Locations For the location we are using Grace’s house on Abercorn Street. She recently moved in, so it has a lot of empty space to work with and the wall color fits easily within our color scheme. The outside has a cute porch on both stories that will be perfect for shots of the whole house and possibly even the houses next to it. The front door also works perfectly with an idea we have for the first shot of the film.

Color Inspired by Wes Anderson’s muted pastel colors throughout all of his films. With pops of vibrant oranges, yellows, and blues with accents of greens and browns. The colors of his films inspired us not just with wardrobe and set design but as well as color grading during post-production.

Production Design For the set design it will take place in an older home with a bunch of knick-knacks scattered throughout the house to give off a vintage, antique, and quirky vibe.

Styling The styling is inspired by the character Suzy from Wes Anderson’s “Moonrise Kingdom”, as well as, Orla Kiely’s 2014 spring ready-to-wear collection. The outfits should have a 60’s vibe that is fun and girly with pastel colors. There will be at least three different outfit changes to signify time throughout the film, each baring a prominent pastel color from the Wes Anderson inspired color palette.
