HIGH-CONCEPT IDEA: Journey deep below the ocean’s surface to an “underwater” horror theme park based on the best selling video game, BioShock.
THE CONCEPT: What if you lived in an underwater utopia, but something went horribly wrong? With “BioShock’s Rapture”, you can now explore the underwater city featured in the best-selling video game series. As you experience Rapture, you will be able to use ADAM, a substance used for ability development, you collect during attractions or experiences, but also lose it and use it to buy certain items at Circus of Values. You will be able to explore both the outside and inside of Rapture with bathyspheres and an interactive walk-through. You will be able to eat at Fort Frolic and watch Sander Cohen’s show or go to Gatherer’s Garden to fill up on vigors. You will also have a chance to escape Rapture before it falls into the hands of Frank Fontaine. This theme park land is to bring people into the video game world of BioShock and feel just like you’re a citizen of Rapture. No one’s experience will be the same.

THE LAND: In the world of BioShock, Rapture is a massive art-deco underwater city that was created by Andrew Ryan, a businessman who poured his fortune into the city. He wanted people to escape from the political, social, and religious anxieties of a post-World War II world. It first started construction in 1946 near Iceland and finished in late 1951. The year is 1958. New Year’s Eve. Everything is going swimmingly. People are partying. But something is going amiss. Riots are happening. The middle-class is rebelling against the upper-class. Trashing high class locations. Frank Fontaine, Rapture’s most notorious criminal, leads the rebellion against Andrew Ryan. This is where you’ll be. A citizen of Rapture. Witnessing the dawn of the end. The land will be enclosed in a show building, so there will be the effect that you’re actually underwater. There will be glass tubes covering the walkways from Sketchup model done by myself building to building to add more to the effect. The glass will have screens so that it looks like there are jellyfish, seaweed, and other aquatic plants and animals outside. The only buildings constructed will the facades to the attractions. Cast members will act as citizens of Rapture.

Survive the inner-workings of Rapture has come to life in this exciting and heart-pulsing interactive walk-through experience. Dr. Julie Langford, the creator of Arcadia has a mission for you. Frank Fontaine destroyed the filtration system. He’s trying to kill the entirety of Rapture from the inside out. You need to restore the filtration system in Arcadia, the garden and arboretum that supplies oxygen to Rapture. Saving the flora there will keep the large abundance of plants and YOU alive. But BEWARE, an army of Fontaine’s Splicers, deformed ADAM abused citizens, are lurking around Arcadia. Ready for their next victim. You will need to hide and keep out of sight when they come. A Smartphone NFC Hide and Seek Game The Little Sisters, young girls genetically altered and mentally conditioned to collect ADAM from corpses around Rapture, are spread throughout the theme park land. Dr. Brigid Tenenbaum, the “mother” of the little sisters, wants you to find them. With each mission you must track them down. Some will be small animatronics placed about and some will be screen projections. Once you find a Little Sister, you are faced with a difficult choice. You can either harvest her ADAM or save her. You get more ADAM if you harvest them, but they will not survive. You get less ADAM if you save them. If you save all 20 girls, you will receive a special Teddy Bear from Dr. Tenenbaum in Gatherer’s Garden.

GUEST EXPERIENCES
When guests walk into Rapture, they become citizens to this utopian, underwater city. They have descended deep into the depths of the Atlantic Ocean and are transported into the world of Rapture. It’s 1958. New Year’s Eve. Everyone is out and about. Hustle and bustling. Excited for what the new year will bring to them. What the citizens of Rapture don’t know, that their life is Rapture is about to fall. Guests will be able to walk around the park through glass tubes. The glass will have screens to add to the allusion that they are underwater. They’ll see things like jellyfish, seaweed, and moving water to add more to the effect. All the buildings inside will house the attractions, retail, and food service. The art deco facades and neon lights will be different for each building depending on what it houses. Throughout the land, guests will be able to collect, spend, or lose ADAM. ADAM is a substance used for ability development. With the help of wristbands with NFC chips in them and cellphones, guests will be able to track their ADAM count on their phones. The NFC chips will allow for elements in the park to add or subtract from their ADAM count. One way to collect ADAM is by finding the Little Sisters. They are genetically altered and mentally conditioned to collect ADAM from courses around Rapture. There are 20 of them spread throughout the park and hiding from guests. Dr. Brigid Tenenbaum, the “mother” of the Little Sisters, wants you to find them. She will give you different missions to find each Little Sister. Some of them are animatronics, while some will be screen projections. Like the video game, when you find a Little Sister you have to make a choice between harvesting them or saving them. If you harvest a Little Sister, you collect a lot of ADAM, but she will not survive. If you save a Little Sister, you will receive less ADAM and she will survive. If you save all 20 girls, you will receive a special Teddy Bear from Gatherer’s Garden. Sometimes on the speakers, the guests will hear Andrew Ryan’s New Year’s Eve speech. ANDREW RYAN: Good evening, my friends. I hope you are enjoying your New Year’s Eve celebration; it has been a year of trials for us all. Tonight I wish to remind each of you that Rapture is your city. It was your strength of will that brought you here, and with that strength you shall rebuild. And so, Andrew Ryan offers you a toast. To Rapture, 1959. May it be our finest year.
JOURNEY THROUGH RAPTURE Water Ride Tour of Rapture
QUEUE LINE/PRE-SHOW: The facade of Journey to Rapture is an old, art deco metro station. A sign glows overhead for the station. On the ground is a large red carpet that spills out of the entrance, begging for people to come in. Two arches of lights wrap around the sides and the ceiling of the entrance. In between the arches are two metal statues of men stretching their arms above their heads. As guests walk through the queue line, faint music from the 30’s and 40’s play in the distance. There is a poster here and there for plasmids. EVOLVE TODAY! They read. There are TV’s placed around near the ceiling. Andrew Ryan, the creator of Rapture, talks to the guest via pre-recorded message. ANDREW RYAN: I am Andrew Ryan. I chose Rapture and now you have too. I’ve given you all access to my bathyspheres We all make choices, but in the end our choices make us. I’ll see you at the loading dock. As they get closer to the boarding station, there’s a giant departure and arrival board. It quickly flips through the arrival and departure times. The glass ceiling above the guests only glows from the light through the ocean water surrounding them.

Behind the board, there are several stations with bathyspheres ready for guests to load into them. The bathyspheres will be able to load eight people total. Four people on the left and four people on the right. The ride operators are dressed to be the working class of Ratpure. They’re jealous of you. If only Andrew Ryan would give them the same treatment as you.

Before the guests load, only Andrew Ryan’s voice can be heard once more.
ANDREW RYAN: Watch your step. Enjoy your time. And would you kindly stay inside your vehicle at all times. I hope to see you soon. The door to the bathysphere opens. The guests board and take their seats. Inside are lavish red couches for everyone to sit on that are facing the window door. Once seated, the door closes and the bathysphere turns around.
THE SHOW: It goes off down a hallway. Stops. The bathysphere is lowered down into the ocean. The deep green water surrounds the bathysphere as the guests get their first look at Rapture. Tall, sleek, black buildings. A blue whale swims between the buildings. Small, luminescent jellyfish are filtered throughout the water. As the bathysphere goes around Rapture, Andrew Ryan talks about his vision for this Utopian city. As the bathysphere journeys around, the guests see a whale, jellyfish, Big Daddies and Big Sisters walking along the ocean floor, and people in the glass tubes walking back and forth. The people you see inside the tubes are the actual people in the park being projected into the these tunnels to give the allusion of not being in a show building.
ANDREW RYAN: I am Andrew Ryan, and I am here to ask you a question. Is a man not entitled to the sweat of his brow? ‘No,’ says the man in Washington, ‘it belongs to the poor.’ ‘No,’ says the man in the Vatican, ‘it belongs to God.’ ‘No,’ says the man in Moscow, ‘it belongs to everyone.’ I rejected those answers. Instead, I chose something different. I chose the impossible. I chose… Rapture. A city where the artist would not fear the censor, where the scientist would not be bound by petty morality, where the great would not be constrained by the small. How did I come to this idea you may ask? The modern world was created by great men who strove to make their own way. When Parasites gained control of the world, they destroyed it. One can only own what one earned and they had not earned anything! When the bomb destroyed Hiroshima— that was it. In retaliation, I threw all of my fortune into creating Rapture. Parasites cannot touch my city nor the people who reside here. Our entrepreneurial culture is the best in the world. I have actually created a Utopia unlike anything anyone could imagine. And with the sweat of your brow, Rapture can become your city, as well. Before returning to the terminal, Andrew Ryan’s voice is cut out and replaced by Frank Fontaine. FRANK FONTAINE: If you all know what’s good for ya, I’d be making my way out of Rapture if I were you. The shit’s about to hit the fan. Get out or get killed. The static comes in as the bathysphere returns to the station. The guests unload back into the metro station.

ESCAPE FROM OLYMPUS HEIGHTS Thrilling Kuka Arm Experience QUEUE LINE: Olympus Heights is the most elegant, high end, and tallest building in all of Rapture. This is where all the upperclass citizens live. It’s black and gold. The neon sign is a light teal color, attracting people to come inside. As guests enter the upscale neighborhood, they are welcomed by a giant bear statue. A diamond chandelier hangs above them. The floors covered in black and white triangles. The guests continue up a large set of steps with red carpet lining each step. A white neon sign that hangs above them reads ‘Mercury Suites’. Loud music and the sound of people laughing can be heard from outside. All the lights are on. At certain apartments, people will be able to interact with the citizens who live there. Dr. Brigid Tenenbaum— She is a scientist who discovered ADAM and commercialized it. When you knock on her door, you can hear her crying inside. Dr. Yi Suchong— He is the leading researcher in Rapture who studies ADAM and created plasmids, the Little Sisters, and Big Daddies. When you knock on his door, he will ask you if you want to buy anything. You can bid your ADAM against other people in line and whoever wins gets an enrage plasmid from him. Sander Cohen— He is a poet, composer, sculptor, and playwright. When you knock on his door, you are left with a pre-recorded message of him saying to buy his new album “Why Even Ask?”. Anna Culpepper— She is a famous musician who writes songs critical of Andrew Ryan. When you knock on her door, she tells her not to bother her because she’s writing. If you continue to stand there, you can hear her reading lyrics to herself. Frank Fontaine— Rapture’s most notorious criminal. When you knock on his door, there is no answer. When guests leave the apartments, they enter the metro station for Olympus Heights, prepared to go to Hephaestus. It’s different from the other metro stations. Decked to the nines. Plush, red seating for people to wait for their trains. Greek-styled supports. The ceiling is glass to view the ocean outside.

Guests are ushered into a bathysphere, about four per vehicle. The bathysphere is connected to a kukaarm, a robotic arm connected to roller coaster seats, but it is under the ride vehicle when entering the station. The employees who https://www.geek.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/bathy1.jpg are controlling the attraction are dressed like upperclass citizens of Rapture. They address everyone as a sir or ma’am. When guests board into the bathysphere they will notice the interior is just like the metro station. A different level of class above the rest.
PRE-SHOW: Andrew Ryan appears on the screen inside the bathysphere. He smiles warmly at them. ANDREW RYAN: Good evening everyone! I hope you’re having a splendid New Years Eve— The lights go out. SHOW: At that moment, a drill goes through the screen of the bathysphere. A Big Daddy standing in front of them. It pushes forward and the bathysphere moves backwards. The Big Daddy runs after you and the bathysphere lifts up into the air, following the train tracks. ANDREW RYAN: I’m getting you out as fast as I can! Hang on! The bathysphere juts forward, flying past the Big Daddy. The guests fly above the apartments. The riots have begun. The apartments are being burned. The screams of innocent people being killed heard. Splicers run into apartments and pull people out. A thud can be heard from the top of the bathysphere. A clanging of metal against metal. A splicer lowers its head to see the inside of the vehicle. SPLICER: I don’t want to hurt you… But sometimes… I have to. The Splicer laughs. The bathysphere makes a sharp turn. Throwing the splicer off the hood of the bathysphere.

The guests are back in the lobby. The bear statue is covered in Splicers trying to break it apart. They stop what they’re doing to look at the bathysphere. ANDREW RYAN: Get rid of them! Use your plasmids! Guests will have a button on their seats to press to use their plasmids. It will light up when the guests will be able to use their powers. When the Splicer’s jump towards the bathysphere, they will have a chance to shoot them.
The Splicers will have an array of dialogue to use. Like: “Uncivil, uncouth, uncultivated!” “Stop! Laughing! At me!” “Judaaaassss!” Lightning, air, fire, and icy wind will shoot out from the bathysphere at the Splicers. If they don’t hit the Splicer in front of their seat, they will attack the guest and they will lose their ADAM. The bathysphere continues circling the lobby until it gets into the terminal, prepping to exit. ANDREW RYAN: Before you go out, ice your bathysphere shut! The button for the icy wind will light up. Even if there isn’t a guest in the seat, it will go off on its own. The icy wind temporarily repairs the hole in the bathysphere. The terminal doors open and pushes it out into the ocean. As the door opens to the Hephaestus terminal, a Big Daddy stands in front of the bathysphere. It grabs it and pulls back his drill arm. It spins in the water. The button lights up for the guests to use their plasmids all at once. The Big Daddy is pushed backward and out of the way for enough time for the bathysphere to get into the Hephaestus terminal. The water around them drains and the bathysphere moves forward into the metro station. ANDREW RYAN: Thank goodness you’re safe. Please make sure you get to safety. I have a bad feeling about this. The guests exit the bathysphere to the Hephaestus metro station. This area of Rapture supplies the power for the rest of the city. It’s different from the one in Olympus Heights. It’s more mechanical. A tint of red lights the station. The glass ceiling above them doesn’t show the nice blue color of the ocean. It’s black and the only color radiates from the red neon on the tower. When the guests exit, they are let back out into the glass tubes that connect Rapture.
