3C5F72 Yggdrasil at St. Kilda Yggdrasil is a preserve for mythological creatures where guests can meet and interact with them via magic. It is located off the coast of Scotland on a small island called St. Kilda, which has been abandoned since the 1930’s. Yggdrasil revitalizes the island of St. Kilda and brings Norse and Celtic mythology to life. Guests can interact with different mythological creatures with the Navigator, a wearable wrist device with advanced sensing technology. Guests will be delighted to meet the Phooka, a shapeshifting creature from Celtic mythology, who created this preserve to bridge the gap between man and myth. They will be astonished by its ability to morph into a dragon, an elf, or even a troll, right before their very eyes. Because of his magical abilities, he has been able to recruit many creatures and build Yggdrasil with various worlds. This invites creatures from each world to regale guests with stories and activities surrounding their culture.

Story behind the design With such an amazing location as St. Kilda, we wanted to revitalize the land and the mythology. We learned that for about 4,000 years, Vikings lived in Scotland– naturally, Norse and Celtic mythology combined. Our layout is based on Yggdrasil, the Tree of the World, which contains multiple worlds. Midgard is the human world and our entrance into the preserve-- transporting guests into this enchanted realm. The roots from Yggdrasil branches out into each of the individual worlds, so that they always remain connected. We were inspired to use the Phooka to be the spokes“person” (or creature if you will) of our story. To bring the mythical creatures to life, we anticipate that animatronic technology would be fitting for high interactivity. Our design will bring more visitors to the island and boost the local hospitality industry in both England and Scotland.

User/ Guest Experience On the ferry ride to St. Kilda, guests receive a field guide filled with all the creatures they will see at Yggdrasil. Once on the island, they enter through Midgard and are introduced to the Phooka at the Tree of the World. Guests will interact with different creatures that inhabit each world. The Home of the Giants and the Land of the Dwarves have retail and community-based activities. The Land of the Elves have a rustic restaurant, music festival, and a walkthrough of their beautiful forest. In Vanir, cute creatures hatch from their eggs. Asgard tells the story of the Gods and has a grand restaurant surrounded by the clouds. The Land of Fog and Mist has a relaxing boat ride where guests can interact with water trolls and nixies. Hel is only opened at night with an outdoor dark ride that shares how different creatures celebrate life and death. The Land of Raging Fire has an outdoor EMV thrill ride that transports guests to an explosive tradition hosted by the dragons called the Lava Run. As the day comes to a close, guests will stay in warm, inviting stone cottages that give them a beautiful view of the ocean.

Hello, my dear friends! I’m the Phooka! I wanted to bring you all to a very special place, Yggdrasil. I’ve created this preserve for mythological creatures and humans to interact with one another. Here- I’ll show you my plans!

Guests can interact with my friends using the Navigator. The Navigator uses NFC chip technology, so guests can interact with the many mystical creatures. On the screen, it shows visitors how close they are to other worlds and how to get there.

Because of the lush landscape, St. Kilda, Scotland is the perfect location for the preserve. The abandoned cottages have been revitalized into livable amenities and trees are planted to give back to the land. The preserve would use Plant-e’s advanced electric technology to harness the energy of the plants without harming them. Yggdrasil brings together man and myth through multiple worlds, all connected by the roots of the Tree of the World. Š Disney

LAND OF THE ELVES In the Land of the Elves, guests will be able to join the fun and learn about conserving the environment. They can do a little jig with the musical elves; they’re a crazy bunch. Or the guests can eat at their rustic restaurant- farm to table food, of course.

The Elves area was inspired by old Italian architecture because of their elegance and relationship with nature.

LAND OF FOG & MIST The Land of Fog and Mist, get your toes wet by going on journeys throughout St. Kilda’s waters and meeting my webbed friends under the surface. I’m sure they would love to see someone without fins for once. And who’s that handsome fella over there?

Guests will ride through St. Kilda’s exterior landscape and interact with Nixies, Water Trolls, and Kelpies.

LAND OF RAGING FIRE Every month, the dragons in Raging Fire hold a race from the top of the volcano to the bottom. It’s called the Lava Run. Guests will take part alongside the dragons and race for the win!

The Land of Raging Fire is well… Dragons. They make the best barbeque and have the hottest tradition!

The metallic EMV, crafted by the dwarves, is the car that guests will ride down the volcano in.
