NEW CANON PROSTREAM 1800 Canon has announced the launch of its new ProStream 1800 continuous feed inkjet printer, the newest model in its ProStream 1000 series. With increased speeds of up to 133m/min, the new printer boasts the highest resolution and print quality of any digital printing press at that speed, making it the ideal solution for commercial printers who want to achieve ultimate performance. Supporting customers’ passion for print, the new ProStream 1800 has been designed to push the boundaries of commercial print to meet changing customer demands. Combining new inkjet innovations with proven offset printing techniques, the press strikes a unique balance between high productivity, superior print quality, flexibility and media versatility. Commercial printers can now expand their offering by migrating higher volume jobs from offset to digital inkjet. Boost production levels, slash turnaround times and increase profit margins across a wide range of applications, including premium and high volume direct mail, books, catalogues and magazines. With the higher web speed of 133m/min (66% faster than the ProStream 1000), the ProStream 1800 produces up to 107,500 A4 images or 11,300 B2 sheets 4/4 per hour while maintaining superior print quality. And increased speeds equate to higher throughput. Have the confidence to handle higher volumes of work for jobs today or in the future. The ProStream 1800 can achieve a very high level of print quality across a huge range of media, including standard offset coated, uncoated and inkjet optimised papers from 40gsm to 300gsm. Print calendars, posters and point of sale applications with the ability to print up to 556mm wide and 1,524mm long. Eliminate the need to stop production to switch between different format lengths to ensure a seamless changeover – providing additional flexibility and ease of use for operators. The press’s air floatation drying system dries all jobs evenly, so you can effectively print on a wide range of paper without compromising the high standards of the finished output. By not coming into contact with the paper, the

system protects the print image to ensure an optimal result and to preserve the gloss and paper surface. Artificial intelligence linked to a sensor continuously makes adjustments to the drying system during the print run to ensure the best quality. Whether you’re printing a fashion look book or a high value mailer, you can be sure that it will impress. The added bonus? It also maintains the optimal web temperature, reducing energy consumption. The ProStream 1800 uses native 1,200dpi piezo drop on demand print heads and proprietary polymer pigment inks with Canon ColorGrip to ensure colour consistency. Canon’s Inline Quality Control, a high performance camera system, also provides automatic print quality assurance, so operators can spend less time on quality control. The successful ProStream 1000 remains available and existing customers can easily upgrade to the ProStream 1800 if more volume is required, allowing them to easily adapt to changing market dynamics while maintaining high quality, speed and supporting a variety of media. Customers can see the new ProStream 1800 at the Customer Experience Centre in Poing, Germany or request a virtual demo. Since its launch at drupe in 2016, AccurioJet KM-1 has been acclaimed as the first choice for a B2+ digital printing press. Many commercial printers, online printers, direct mailers, publishing and book printing companies have benefited from multiple installations because of its media versatility - resulting from Konica Minolta’s original UV inkjet technologies. Following the legacy of the AccurioJet KM-1, the main benefit of AccurioJet KM-1e remains its infinite business expansion possibilities from current business fields to more profitable applications. Konica Minolta culminated benefits of the UV inkjet technology to maximise excellent printing capability on various types of media, including plastic substrates, transparent film, foiled paper, metallic media, canvas and synthetic substrates. The Konica Minolta AccurioJet KM-1e will continue to help customers pursue high value added products where high quality production, extensive media compatibility and personalisation are required. As one example, Konica Minolta is working with partner MGI on varnishing solutions for high value print and with motion cutter digital laser technology for highly decorative cutting that will open more doors for customers to work directly with agencies. First installations of the Konica Minolta KM-1e have already been made in Europe and in the US. Toshi Uemura, Executive Officer, Division President of Professional Print, Konica Minolta Inc, said: “Under our concept ’Igniting Print Possibilities’ we summarise our drive to solve customers’ and social challenges by the means of digital printing through further automation, integrated on-demand digital production and visualisation of quality and operation. opportunities digitalisation brings along, supporting the trend to switch from offset to inkjet printing in a fast growing market.” Konica Minolta’s AccurioJet KM-1, which is referred to as the “Swiss Army Knife” of printing thanks to its versatility with substrates and applications, as well as its successor benefit from Konica Minolta’s unique Dot Freeze Technology™. The patented process, known as DFT, has overcome one of the fundamental challenges of inkjet printing – uncontrolled ink dot movement that reduces print quality and workable materials. The technology uniquely self freezes ink drops upon contact with materials, resulting in superior colour stability and consistency and excellent results with instantly dry perfects prints. www.konicaminolta.co.uk
