PREFFACE

This book is created for Taman Nasional Indonesia. A final project purposed to rebrand Taman Nasional Indonesia the main logo alongside with thirteen subsidiary logo of other national park across Indonesia. The main goal of this project is to capture each national park characteristic through the brand identity. To understand more about

Taman Nasional Indonesia and the logo, it is important to acknowledge the value and rule of the logo. This guidelines help users to use the logo correctly and consistent. Please remember to read and understand this guidelines clearly before using the logo and all the elements of Taman Nasional Indonesia.

USING the book

One of the main important of using all these logos are consistency. The user of this book needs to be creative and professional to use this logo and applying it to any applications. By using this guide book, the user agree to use this brand and keep it as identical as in the guide.

The purpose of this manual is to explain the idea behind Taman Nasional Indonesia alongside with the subsidiary brand visual identity, to define its graphic standards, and to illustrate how these standards are applied. It is very important to understand rules of the logo. User will find some visual aspect that need to be fulfilled.

TAMAN NASIONAL INDONESIA Indonesia is unquestionably one of the world’s top biodiversity rich countries and thus a priority for global conservation Taman Nasional (National Park) is a scenic or historically important area of countryside protected by the federal government for the enjoyment of the general public or the preservation of wildlife. The first group of five Indonesian national parks were established in 1980. This number increased constantly reaching forty-one in 2003. In a major expansion in 2004, nine more new national parks were created, raising the total number of fifty all across Indonesia. All of them are managed under the Ministry of Forestry of the Republic of Indonesia. There six Indonesia National Parks that considered as World Heritage Sites by UNESCO.

Which are : Taman Nasional Komodo, Taman Nasional Lorentz, Taman Nasional Ujung Kulon, Taman Nasional Gunung Leuser, Taman Nasional Kerinci Seblat, and Taman Nasional Bukit Barisan Selatan. Thirteen out of fifty national parks in Indonesia are selected to be re-designed its identity including the main logo which has not consisted yet. Each of the national park has different diversity and richness on its flora and fauna. Taman Nasional Indonesia is the main logo and it will remain as the master logo when using one of the subsidiary brand logo.

BRAND PHILOSOPHY Indonesia’s biodiversity richness is made possible by several factors it is located between two continents and two oceans and it has a unique geographical feature. Indonesia known as their lasting conservation, protected areas need a lot of visitation, something that is lacking in developing countries. In order to promote visitation and care about the national parks, the designer try to re-brand thirteen out fifty nationals park. The main idea of this brand is to show the diversity and richness that Indonesia has. Which is show from the main logo, consists of many variety of element. All the logo including the sub-brand aiming to show Indonesian endemic flora and fauna. Which is shows more in the main logo. Combining all the endemic flora and fauna that come across all the national park.

Highlighting more in endangered endemic flora and fauna. Such as Sumatran Tiger, or one horned rhino for the fauna, and Rafflesia Arnoldi for the flora. The sub-brand using the same concept “highlight� endemic or endangered animals that come from the national park it self. Not only highlighting the flora and fauna, but also the richness scenery of the national park. Representing the mountain, sea, and land. All the elements are simplified to fit it in the logo with variety of colours. Using basic gradient and vibrant colour to really show the true colour of Indonesia

LOGO DESIGN Of all the national parks, six are World Heritage Sites, six are part of the World Network of Biosphere Reserves and three are wetlands of international importance under the Ramsar conservation. A total of 9 parks are largely marine. The basic idea is to “highlight� the richness of Indonesia in one simple logo. All the elements consists of several endemic and endangered flora fauna across Indonesia. Taken from several elements that are also put in the sub-brand to show connectivity between the main logo and sub-brand. All the elements are simplified so all of the elements can easily work togethers. Highlighting every part of Indonesia richness. From up mountain, highland, sea, forrest and low land. The main logo is need to capture the glimpse of all the sub-brand. The logo itself has bigger square to show more diversity in the logo and to differentiate it

from the sub-brand. All the faunas and flora are mostly endangered animal and some of the are critically endangered such as Sumatran Tiger. This logo also want to create awareness about what Indonesia facing now. All the forest that lost, and many beautiful animals that are almost extinct. Indonesia’s forest and marine life is a complex community.

TYPEFACES The main logo using Gotham Medium as the typefaces. It is clear and simple to balanced the variety of elements and colours. Not just well balanced but well contrast with the elements. Bebas Neue used for Headline text with 50 spacing. This typefaces worked

well with the main logo. Avenir Next used for body text, with variant of thickness. Avenir Next is a well made typefaces, that is clear and easy to read.

Spacing from Taman to Nasional to Indonesia using three space leading. For the Indonesia between the letter using two space tracking.

COLOR USAGE The colour schemes was inspired from the various colours of flora and fauna in each of the National Park. Using vibrant colours to represent Indonesia that come from different colours. The colour scheme of the main logo also coordinate with the sub-brand.

SAFE AREA and LOGo size It is very important to take notice of the logo size and the safe area. As the logotype needs to always be readable and legible. The minimum size for the logo on prints should be at the very least 5cm times 2.8cm. There are no maximum size, yet it is need to be well balanced and works together with the application. The safe area or the exclusion zone is established to create a “safe space� between the logo or other objects. the logo needs to always be recognisable and not to be distracted by other company logos, texts, or any object and design elements.

VARIATION AND DISTORTION Users in term of using Taman National Indonesia logo needs to be persist same with the original logo. All the element including graphics, colours and typefaces cannot be changed. Violation to the rules could lead into problems such as, unrecognisable, logo misconception of the brand, and not get the message. In order to give some flexibility in using this logo, this logo come with two different variation of colours, full colour and gradient outline colours. Notice : The outline logo need to be the exact same gradient colours which was shown in this book, and using a white background. As for the colours logo it can be placed overlap with any colours as long it is still clear. (Applying to all logos)

APPLICATION There are some important rules that users need to understand when it come using this logo for any purposes. We want to maintain the stability and original in each application. Here are some of the simple rules : 1. Logo should be appears in every commercial works 2. Logo should be clear based on the safe area and size 3. You can choose between two different logos thatsuit the application





COMPANY UNIFORM The national park keeper or rangers need to use a suitable uniform with the main logo in it, it same goes with other national park. It comes with the uniform and safari hat, to keep their safety and differentiate them from the visitor.


COMPANY vehicle The vehicle is a national park vehicle. It is used to help rangers explore the national park, and also help visitor to enjoy a one day tour in the national park without trekking.


merchandise A souvenir or a gift that the National parks offers. Consists of a tote bag and t-shirt that comes in only one colour. The bag is used to increase awareness of recycling

subsidiary brands The biodiversity found in every Indonesia National Park mirrors the amazing range of ecosystems that are found in the national park. Thirteen subsidiary brands is made to support the main logo. Each of them is created with the characteristics of each of the National Parks throughout Indonesia. 13 of the sub-brands was inspired by the richness and diversity of each national park. “Highlighting� the endemic and endanger species that are found in the national park. The thirteen subsidiary brands consists of Taman Nasional Bali Barat, Taman Nasional Bunaken, Ta- man Nasional Lorentz, Taman Nasional Pulau Seribu, Taman Nasional Way Kambas, Taman Nasional Bukit Barisan Selatan, Taman Nasional Komodo, Taman Nasional Kayan Mentarang, Taman Nasional

Ujung Kulon, Taman Nasional Gunung Leuser, Taman Nasional Kerinci Seblat, Taman Nasional Waka- tobi, and Taman Nasional Bentuang Karimun.

TAMAN NASIONAL BUNAKEN The Bunaken National Marine Park was formally established in 1991 and is among the first of Indonesia’s growing system of marine parks. 97% of which is overlain by sparkling clear, warm tropical water. That is why this logo highlighting the aquatic life, which is the sea which are spotted seahorse, two line monocle bream, and pufferfish. Using sea creatures and variant of corals. The colours were taken from many variant of coral and fishes.

TAMAN NASIONAL UJUNG KULON Ujung Kulon National Park, located in Banten Province, on the extreme south-west tip of the highly populated island of Java. This national park is believed to sustain the last viable natural population of single-horned Javan Rhinoceros, that is way the main element in this logo is the rhino. Along side with the rich biodiversity, not only extensive lowland forest, but also rich coral reefs. The logo need to capture all of the biodiversity, combining water, forrest and land elements.

TAMAN NASIONAL GUNUNG LEUSER Gunung Leuser National Park is one of the richest tropical rainforests in Southeast Asia. Straddling the border of North Sumatra and Aceh provinces. This region host many endangered wildlife. This logo used javan leopard and sumatran tiger as the highlight animals. Because both of them are endangered and come in one family in animal kingdom. Gunung Leuser National Park has also an enormous wealth of plant species, including Amorphophallus titanium, the biggest and the highest flower in the world and placed it as one of the main element in this logo.

TAMAN NASIONAL Wakatobi Wakatobi National Park is the third largest marine park and it located in south of Sulawesi. Decorated with different, colourful species of tropical coral reefs. From that the base of this logo is taken, which is sea environment. The islands are also famous as the largest barrier reef in Indonesia, the playground of dolphins, sea turtles, and even whale. The main element on this logo is the sea turtle. Sea turtle often make appearance in Wakatobi sea, and this animal is now endangered according to IUCN.

TAMAN NASIONAL KOMODO Komodo National Park, located in the centre of the Indonesia archipelago, between the islands of Sumbawa and Flores. This park inhabitant of Komodo Lizard. This giant lizards, existing no where else in the world. The logo use komodo head to really highlight the animal it self. Not just komodo, this national park have several endemic species, on of them is Timor deer which is shown in the logo. TAMAN NASIONAL WAY KAMBAS Way Kambas National Park is located in Lampung province, southern Sumatra. It consists of swamp forest and lowland rain forest. The park still has a few critically endangered animals such as Sumatran Rhino and Sumatran Elephants. They have sanctuary and conservation centre to maintain small number of the rhinos and elephants. From that information, this logo highlighting the main concern animals that are located in this park which are Sumatran elephant and rhino. Threats to the park are posed by poaching and habitat loss due to illegal logging.

TAMAN NASIONAL BALI BARAT West Bali National Park is located on the north western side of Bali. Main elements from the logo is the Bali Starling bird which now is critically endangered. This park has marine protected areas. It shows a high bio diversity of coral and fishes. In this logo, other main element is the Balinese temple or Pura. A place for worship for the adherents of Balinese Hinduism in Indonesia. The logo also highlight a flora called plumeria that also called flowers of Bali.

TAMAN NASIONAL KAYAN MENTARANG Kayan Mentarang National Park is a densely forested national park in North Kalimantan province, Borneo Island, Indonesia. It is located at the border between Indonesia and Malaysia. The park is central to the WWF Heart of Borneo initiative. This logo is using monkeys as the main element because there are many type of monkeys in the park. Then drop down into two, between the long-tailed macaque, and the bornean gibbon. The bornean gibbon is one of endemic animal of Borneo and an endangered species according to IUCN.

TAMAN NASIONAL KEPULAUAN SERIBU Thousand Islands National Park are a chain of islands to the north of Jakarta’s coast. It forms the only regency of Jakarta, the capital city of Indonesia. It consists of a string of one hundred and ten islands, thirty six islands are may be used for recreation, yet only thirteen islands are fully developed which are eleven islands are homes to resorts and two islands are historic parks. Twenty-three islands are privately owned and are not open to the public. The highlight of this national park, that are so many beautiful islands that people can easily reached by boat. From that the logo was created using the main transportation of this national park and sea environment.

TAMAN NASIONAL BENTUANG KARIMUN Bentuang Karimun / Kerihun National Park is located on the province of West Kalimantan on the island of Borneo, Indonesia. This logo only highlight one element which is Bornean orang-utan. An endangered species and endemic to the bornean region. About ten to fifteen orang-utans were traded every month from West and Central Kalimantan forests to supply markets in Indonesia’s large cities. All the remaining elements are used to capture bornean highland and lowland that mostly forest.

TAMAN NASIONAL Kerinci seblat Kerinci Seblat National Park is the largest national park in Indonesia. It is located on the island of Sumatra.The park is home to diversity of flora and fauna. This diversity base the main concept behind this logo. The main elements are Malayan Tapir is one of the endangered animal, Sumatran Muntjac, a deer not recorded since the late 1920’s and rediscovered by IUCN in 2008. Rafflesia arnoldi and titan arum were used to complete the diversity of this logo. TAMAN NASIONAL LORENTZ Lorentz National Park is located in the Indonesian province of Papua, formerly knowns as Irian Jaya. In 1999 Lorentz was declared a Word Heritage Site by UNESCO. The logo want to captured this park as the example of the biodiversity of New Guinea, that in one national park contain a full altitudinal array of ecosystem from marine areas to equatorial glaciers, using many layer of mountain colouring. As for the animal elements, Dingiso and Cassowary are selected. Dingiso is a tree-kangaroos that is endemic to the Sudirman range. Cassowary is also native to the tropical forests of New Guinea.

TAMAN NASIONAL BUKIT BARISAN SELATAN Bukit Barisan Selatan National is a national park in Sumatra, Indonesia. The park located along the Bukit Barisan mountain range. It is covered by montane forest, lowland tropical forest, and coastal forest and mangrove forest. The park is home to many endangered and threatened species. One of the Sumatran endemic animal which is Sumatran Striped Rabbit is taken for the main element of the logo. This park is also a home for the sun bears, this element is used taken from the previous logo. Not only rich of animal species but this park is also a home for beautiful flora.
