“Someone's sitting in the shade today because someone planted a tree a long time ago.” That’s how Warren Buffet, one of the richest man in the planet, looks at how we manage our finances. In this uber-materialistic world, its just too hard to save-up or even make our hard-earned money grow. Luckily, we have the best person to learn from, Our Magical Speaker:

PP JOSEFINO STO. DOMINGO Past President Josefino Sto. “Pepot” R. Domingo graduated from the University of the Philippines in 1972 with a degree in Political Science. He has worked with the Philippine American Life & General Insurance Company since 1973 up to the present. Pepot’s career spans over 3 decades of experience and expertise in the financial services industry more specifically in life and general insurance. He rose from being a life insurance underwriter to become the Chief Agency Officer and Head of Sales and Marketing of the leading and largest life insurance company in the country. He managed and led a huge agency sales force with over 10,000 agents and 120 agencies that sustained the company’s market leadership up to this time. Having retired from corporate life five years ago, he runs his own insurance

agency, Sto. Domingo & Associates, for 5 years now with 135 Financial Advisors across the nation. A growing agency, he mentors his own advisors in providing consultancy about financial planning and/or any investment advisory. He joined the Rotary Club of Bagumbayan-Manila in 1991 and became an active club member and director. Because of his leadership qualities, he was elected club president for RY 2006-2007 under Past District Governor Lyne Abanilla. He excelled as club president in all avenues of service. With his able leadership coupled with his baritone voice which commanded the respect accorded to a commander-in-chief, the club received its fifth Overall Most Outstanding Club Award and President Pepot the Overall Most Outstanding Club President Award.

Know Thy Four-Way Test

The simple and straightforward Four Way Test was written by Chicago Rotarian Herbert J. Taylor in 1932. The test was primarily written for his bankrupt Club Aluminium Company. Herb actually gave up his job in in order to join 250 other employees onboard the so-called “sinking ship”. The most significant and practical example of the test in action concerned an incident involving a printing contract. One local printer won an order from Herb’s company beating all other tenders. The printer, however, soon realised that he had under-estimated his quote by $500. Legally, Club Aluminium could ignore the printer’s appeals and compel him to fulfil his side of the contract. Club Aluminium was deeply in debt and had acted in good faith but Herb asked his board to reconsider and pay the printer the extra $500. Remember the second line of the test, he told his fellow directors, - “is it fair to all concerned?” Club Aluminium’s future grew brighter and brighter and in five years had pulled itself out of the red. Perhaps, the test had real, practical benefits.

MAGICAL ROTARIANS GEARING UP FOR MEETING: Financial WORLD POLIO DAY Planning for By Dan Nixon Rotary News -- 15 October 2012

Rotarians are getting ready to launch events linked to World Polio Day, 24 October, in support of the Global Polio Eradication Initiative. Led by RI President Sakuji Tanaka, International PolioPlus Committee Chair Robert Scott, and Rotary Foundation Trustee Stephanie Urchick, delegates to the Rotary institute for zones 24-32 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, will take part in a downtown walk and rally on 19 October. One hundred of the participants will carry signs bearing the End Polio Now message. In District 1090 (England), District Governor Judith Diment plans a World Polio Day drive-athon, in which she will travel to each of the district’s 62 clubs. “Rotarians will be giving

out the new district Rotary newspaper, which leads with a polio story, as well collecting funds and briefing the local media,” says Diment, who is the PolioPlus National Advocacy Adviser for the United Kingdom. “On 28 October, we are having a Rotary Polio Day at a rugby match, where we will give out newspapers and collect money for polio.” Rotarians in Pakistan are publishing a four-page supplement in The News, the leading English-language daily newspaper, which is circulated nationwide. “This will help us create awareness and also project the role of Rotary in polio eradication,” says Aziz Memon, chair of the Pakistan PolioPlus Committee.
