Kingstar Farm will launch the first yearlings by their resident sire Time to Reign at the upcoming Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale. Time to Reign won the Silver Slipper and is a half-brother to Golden Slipper winner She Will Reign, making him the type of early maturing horse that buyers at this sale tend to like. Kingstar Farm have two colts by Time To Reign in book one of the sale; Lot 747 is out of Gr3 winner Hi Belle, making him a half-brother to current stakes placed winner Wild Belle, from the family of Gr1 winners I Do, and Court Ruler. Lot 810 is out of group placed winning Irish mare Jehannedarc, whose first two foals are winners.
Kingstar nominations manager Conor Phelan is enthusiastic about the farm’s 2024 Magic Millions draft. He spoke to Blueboods.
How would you sum up your 2024 draft?
“Exceptional, we’ve got a couple of genuine showstoppers in the draft that will make everyone’s shortlists and no weak links. The first crop of Time To Reign are great types and we’ve made sure to showcase some of the better pedigreed types.”
What has been your most satisfying result at the Magic Millions?
“The winning post is where the buyers want to be, so selling Stakes Winners like Wollombi and Stay Inside is the benchmark, but to produce a million dollar colt last year was a real milestone for Kingstar. We’re a young farm so to have buyers invest in our progeny with such confidence already is very satisfying.”
Extreme Choice and Kingstar Farm have had plenty of luck together already, including Gr3 winner Wollombi who Kingstar sold from their inaugural Gold Coast draft in 2021. In 2024, they bring Lot 942, an Extreme Choice colt who has plenty to like about him. “He is a very, very special colt. He is a standout and will certainly be on everyone’s wishlist.” A half-brother to dual Gr3 winner Our Playboy, his unraced dam is a half-sister to Gr1 winner Pierata and Gr3 winner Ashokan, making his second dam the Gr3 winner November Flight.
Proven sire Capitalist is represented by Lot 574, a colt who is the third foal of Demand Attention, a winning daughter of champion racemare Makybe Diva. If you subscribe to the daughters of champions theory, this colt fits perfectly. Two Deep Field yearlings are rare offerings, and both are fillies so there is plenty of residual value for buyers. Lot 459 is the third foal of winning mare Azarose, who is a half-sister to multiple group winner Artistry, from the family of Samantha Miss, Cronus, and Miss Fabulass; while Lot 685 is the first foal of Forest Fantasy, an unraced full sister to Gr1 winner Takedown.
Russian Revolution is having an outstanding season, and Kingstar Farm have two of his yearlings on offer.
Unite and Conquer was a boom two year-old. His first crop have just turned two, and already showing that his own stock will be the same as himself.
The colt, Lot 829, is out of city winner Kuchinskaya who is from the family of Tuscan Sling, Assertive Approach, Outlaws Revenge, Immortal Love, Imlovin’ya, and many others. The filly, Lot 676, is the first live foal for Flaming Rose who is an unraced half-sister to stakes winners Tangled, Sebrose, and Maule’s Creek, and all are out of Gr1 winner Bramble Rose.
Kingstar Farm will present two yearlings by first season sire North Pacific (Brazen Beau) in book one. Lot 344, a colt, is the second foal of tough racemare Volkoff who won twelve races including two at Listed level, while the filly, Lot 514, is the second foal of stakes winning two year old Champagne Boom.
Rounding out their book one draft is Lot 824, a filly by Cosmic Force, whose oldest crop have just turned two, and she is a half-sister to winner Remorseless who ran second in the Magic Millions Wyong 2YO Classic (RL), and her dam is a winner from the Redoute’s Choice family. Cosmic Force is off to a great start to his stud career with Devine Force being a very impressive winner of his first two starts in Brisbane.
A few months in racing can be a lifetime. Writing about Kingstar Farm’s Magic Millions Gold Coast yearling draft in November and trying to predict what will happen come
sale time, takes a crystal ball especially when it comes to their young sire Unite and Conquer. Unite and Conquer was a boom two year-old. His first crop have just turned two, and already showing that his own stock will be the same as himself. “It bodes well that the first two year-old trial in Australia was won by a Unite and Conquer, named Switch to Go, and the fastest breeze up at the Inglis 2YO sale was a Unite and Conquer, who then sold to Hong Kong for $110,000.” Kingstar Farm have two fillies by Unite and Conquer in book two of this sale; Lot 1113 is out of Cross Court, whose three named foals are all winners, and Lot 1259 is out of Gr2 placed winner Megawatt, whose first foal is a city winner.
Kingstar Farm have a Time To Reign filly in book two, Lot 1253, who is from the family of Not A Single Doubt, and her dam’s first foal is already a winner. Their book two draft is rounded out with yearlings by Brutal, Cosmic Force, and North Pacific.
