Rheinwood Pastoral Co
from 2024 MMGC Magazine
Rheinwood Pastoral Co has been located in the picturesque Southern Highlands of NSW for the past thirty years and has a very strong record of producing quality racehorses led by this season’s three-year-old Libertad. The Russian Revolution colt won his first three starts in succession, two of those at Gr.3 level. Dual Gr.1 winner Albert The Fat grew up at Rheinwood, as did Unchain My Heart. Western Australian Listed winning fouryear-old Upper Limits was bred and sold by Rheinwood at the Magic Millions Adelaide Sale, while stakes placed Beauty Missile came from their last Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale draft. Rheinwood Pastoral only took three yearlings to the Gold Coast in 2021 with Beauty Missile and smart city winner Cadetship already showing promise on the track in the Chris Waller stable for Star Thoroughbreds. In 2024 Rheinwood Pastoral Co will present five yearlings for sale and manager Kirsty Willis said, “We are very much looking forward to getting back to Magic Millions again.”
How would you sum up your 2024 draft?
“Our draft for 2024 is very diverse and should appeal to a variety of buyers. We always eagerly await the progeny of the first season sires and we are absolutely thrilled with our King’s Legacy, North Pacific and Prague yearlings. Maurice needs no introduction and the Arrogant Belle filly looks a real racy type. Winning Ruperts are tough and train on, this filly is certainly tough! Overall they are a nice solid draft of horses that all work hard and eat well, they are just thriving in their prep, all good signs for their future trainability. We are very excited for what the future holds for them.”
Rheinwood horses are “Bred in the Cold.. Hot on the Track!”
Rheinwood Pastoral Co’s only colt is by first season sire North Pacific, Lot 670, he is the fourth foal of Financial District (Manhattan Rain), a half-sister to Gr.3 winner Miss Darcey and to the dam of Rheinwood’s Libertad. This colt’s second dam is a Listed winner, while his third dam is Gr.1 winner Lurestina.
“The North Pacific is a nice big strong colt with plenty of substance and bone, he is a forward mature type from a running family that has this season produced dual G3 winner Libertad.”
Dual Gr.1 winning two-year-old King’s Legacy (Redoute’s Choice) trained on at three to place in the Gr.1 Golden Rose. Rheinwood’s King’s Legacy filly, Lot 908, is out of winning mare Majestic Faith (Denman), who is a threequarter-sister to Listed winner Black Minx (Lonhro), dam of fan favourite Gr.3 winner and Gr.1 placed So Si Bon.
“The Majestic Faith filly is a real queen, she is a very attractive filly, with good size, strength and scope.”
Lot 1383 by Kia Ora’s Gr2 winning first season sire Prague out of a half-sister to Listed winner Best Is Yet To Come from the family of twoyear-old stakes winner Quattro Quinta and Gr.2 winner Everswindell.
“The She Has Arrived is a good looking filly, she is strong and looks fast! We love the Pragues and she is typical of the good quality stock he is throwing.”
Proven sire Maurice’s filly, Lot 1042, is the third live foal of her dam Arrogant Belle, and Maurice is the most exciting stallion that Arrogant Belle has visited so far. Her first foal is a winner, and she is from the family of Magic Millions 2YO Classic winner Catnipped.
“The Maurice is a racy, athletic filly. She looks a real racehorse. Has enough size and scope, looks like an early running type.”
Unbeaten two-year-old and group winner Winning Rupert filly, Lot 1381, is out of winning mare Seritza (Sebring) who is from the family of group winning juveniles Nediym’s Glow and General Beau.
“The Winning Rupert filly is a hardy, compact filly that is ready to run, wouldn’t surprise if she was back for the big race here next year.”
Who have been the most influential people for you in racing?
“I couldn’t name any specific people that have been ‘most’ influential to me within the industry, I am personally motivated every day by the hard work and dedication of so many industry participants from all walks of life. The trainers, jockeys, stud and stable staff, vets, farriers, most importantly my amazing staff here at the farm who show up for us day in day out, rain, hail or shine. They work so hard, dedicating their life to the well-being of the horses at Rheinwood and toil endlessly in pursuit of producing us top class equine athletes! I so admire their dedication.”
What makes the Magic Millions sales and races special?
“There is no better place in the world for any thoroughbred enthusiast than the Magic Millions Carnival on the Gold Coast in January! With the beautiful weather, golden beaches and array of delicious restaurants, it is the perfect location to showcase the next crop of yearling talent and enjoy the first class racing action! The MM carnival sees eager buyers and hopeful vendors gather for two weeks of fun, excitement and spectacle! It’s been so enjoyable to see the addition of the Polo and recently the Showjumping events to further showcase our beautiful thoroughbreds to the world!”
