Welcome …to the fourth edition of the Walkabout Sport E-Magazine for August! The focus this month is on the start of the new football season and upcoming Rugby World Cup starting in September! Following a busy summer of sport, plenty has been occurring off the pitch in the football world in preparation for the big kick off! The managerial merry-goround has been in full swing, the transfer window as busy as ever and the mind games have already begun! Football fans can look forward to another action packed season and also a very exciting start with several of last seasons top clubs meeting early on. Walkabout will screen all of these big games and more from the world’s best league!

Champions Manchester United are favourites to once again capture another Premier League title following their success last season. Sir Alex Ferguson has had a busy summer bringing in new recruits such as Ashley Young, Phil Jones and David De Gea and is rumoured to be after more! Meanwhile, neighbours Manchester City have spent big as usual, Argentine striker Sergio Aguero being the marquee signing! The Citizens are expected to seriously challenge the Red Devils at the top of the table! Fellow title challengers Chelsea have also endured another dramatic summer following the departure of coach Carlo Ancelotti. His replacement is Andre Villas-Boas, a young, successful Portuguese coach brought in off the back of a European success with his former club Porto! Sound Familiar? Whilst he isn’t quite ‘the special one’, Chelsea fans are generally optimistic following his arrival. Meanwhile North London duo Arsenal and Tottenham have been frustrated by constant

speculation surrounding their star players. Cesc Fabregas and Luka Modric have been frequently linked with moves away to Barcelona and Chelsea respectively. If the two clubs can hold on to those names as well as add to their squad, they will both be targeting a top four finish!
Liverpool will also be in the mix following their strong end to last season in which Luis Suarez started to demonstrate his value. The Reds have since added Stewart Downing, Jordan Henderson and Charlie Adam to their squad. The Premier League welcomes QPR, Norwich and Swansea and we expect our Walkabout sites (particularly those in Shepherd’s Bush and Swansea) to do the same! There is also plenty to look forward to for the fans of Aston Villa, Blackburn, Bolton, Everton, Fulham, Newcastle, Stoke, Sunderland, West Brom, Wigan and Wolves. Every club will be featured! It should be another cracking season from the best league in the world! You won’t miss any of the action at Walkabout!

If only we had speculated last year like we have this year then chances are we would still be in the Premiership. Clearly the much publicised departures of Charlie Adam, David Vaughan and DJ Campbell have weakened the team. The signings of Barry Ferguson and Kevin Phillips, plus five other new faces, and a promise of more in the pipeline coupled with Billy Clarke and our record signing Chris Basham returning from season long injuries, make the current squad, on paper, the strongest Blackpool squad in 50 years.

Hopes are high at the seaside for an instant return to the Premier League, Blackpool’s first match is the curtain raiser to the new season and is live on Sky on Friday 5th August away at Hull City, The Tigers v The Tangerines, come on the Pool!

It’s irrelevant what all the others say Paul, Arsenal are going to win the league. End of story. That’s all you need to know. Sorry, just woke up, must have been dreaming. Not long now before the start of the season. It has been too long a summer with us clearly ahead in the new signings stakes with 1 more big player yet to come. Watch this space. Just one small point - we have to first keep our noisy neighbours quiet in the Community Shield. We never got out of 2nd gear last season and we won the league. Maybe we might have to get into 3rd gear this season. BRING IT ON...

My Premier League team is Newcastle united :), we’ve made some good signings so far but we need another striker. I think they’ll finish mid table. I also support Lincoln city :), again, they’ve made some good signings and I think they’ll do well in the blue square premier :) I support West Ham. I believe that we will finish second this season in the Championship as the spending power of Leicester has made it just impossible to look past them to see anyone else winning the league! As for the rest of the promotion push I reckon that the play-offs will once again be a complete lottery. My tip however, is Middlesbrough. Tony Mowbray knows the league and they have a strong squad. Having said that there is always one team that comes from nowhere and this season I think that will be Brighton. Great manager, new stadium and some interesting signings should make Brighton a very tough side to beat.
It’s been a frustrating summer for Spurs fans. We have been crying out for a new striker for well over a year and it seemed certain that someone would come in to do the job that Mr Crouch, Defoe and Keane don’t seem to be able to do on a regular basis. Yet, we have still not made that addition and the season is getting closer, too close in fact. Expect a frantic end to the transfer window as usual and probably another near miss on Champions League football like last season. We have a good team, but are really just that close to being a very good team, we need the chairman to spend and also to keep hold of Modric who was probably our most important player last season. I fancy us challenging Arsenal for 4th with a couple of new players and Liverpool will be in the mix too!

If we buy Modric and another quality player we may be in with a shout. Every season we get older and Lampard and Terry, as good as they are, need to be put under pressure from the youngsters and fight for places. New manager will be great and if Torres can work out which boot goes on which foot he may even get a few goals. New season cannot wait!

Liverpool can still be described as a work in progress. Kenny Dalglish has made a number of astute signings since January including the world class Luis Suarez. Andy Carroll needs a run of games to improve his fitness whilst the additions of Charlie Adam, Jordan Henderson and Stuart Downing this summer have added class and a good British backbone to the team. Top four is a possibility but the addition of a left back, centre half, right winger and cover for the strikers are still needed. Whether or not there are new additions, I expect a vastly improved start to the season compared to last year.

world cup 2014 draw England will face Montenegro, Ukraine, Poland, Moldova, and San Marino in Group H when they attempt to qualify for the 2014 World Cup finals in Brazil. Scotland and Wales were drawn together in Group A, and will play Croatia, Serbia, Belgium, and Macedonia. The qualification process will start in the European zone following Euro 2012 next summer, which incidentally will be co-hosted by England’s World Cup group opponents Ukraine and Poland. Following their automatic qualification as hosts, could the duos lack of competitive football in recent years give England the edge on the road to Brazil? Montenegro are also currently battling England for top spot in Euro 2012 qualification so the Three Lions should know what to expect!

Australia will be hoping for a huge improvement following their disappointing quarter-final defeat to England four years ago in France whilst South Africa will hope they can once again rise to big occasion and retain their title. community shield Manchester United v Manchester City This season’s traditional curtain raiser has a bit of an edge to it, as both clubs from Manchester will come together at the capital with a lot of bragging rights up for grabs. As if the derby alone wasn’t fierce enough, the recent transition in the fortunes of Manchester City means that they are now a genuine title challenger and United will be keen to prove a point of still being the top dogs in town! The two clubs experienced dissimilar emotions at Wembley at the back end of last season. City earnt their place in this match following their 1-0 FA Cup final win over Stoke and prior to that, defeated United in the semi-final under the famous arch. United also lost to Barcelona in the Champions League final a few weeks later and will be determined to improve their Wembley record with a morale-boosting victory here to send a message to their neighbours ahead of another exciting season of Premier League football. It should be another thrilling contest between these two local rivals. The home of football should be in for a treat and you can catch all the action live and in HD and also in 3D at Walkabout!

euro 2012 qualifiers England enter a crucial stage of Euro 2012 qualifying in September when they face Bulgaria and British rivals Wales. England laboured to a 2-2 draw at home to Switzerland last time out and will be determined to take the next six points from two potentially tricky fixtures as they seek to beat Montenegro to top spot in group G and secure a place at Poland and Ukraine in 2012. Meanwhile, Wales’ hopes have all but ended, remaining pointless from 4 matches. They will hope to restore some local pride with a good performance against England and they could still help out their neighbours with a positive result versus Montenegro.
