notes from the edito r... I get so excited when beautiful weddings hit my inbox and I proceed to look over the images imagining I was a guest! It's all too easy to get lost scrolling through the gorgeous photography and pretty details, or dreaming of far off destinations. But at the heart of each of these affairs is a love story, and I love getting caught up in these tales of how couples first met. Last month, I had the opportunity to spend four days at a ch창teau in the French countryside near Paris, as part of The Artist Holiday creative retreat, in the company of a group of very talented wedding industry professionals. It struck me, whilst I was there, how each of them is not only passionate for their art, but truly passionate about the connections that their clients have. Capturing the bride and groom being themselves and real is what it's all about; the core of what we create. As you plan your wedding, be sure to share your history with your wedding pros - allow yourself to really connect with

"I grew up in Arizona and never really appreciated the beauty of the desert landscape until I grew up and moved away from it. I think it gets far less credit than it deserves. I love the muted tones of the desert so for this shoot we wanted a look that played off of the natural colours as well as added some pop. Our Rue De Seine gown was the softest shade of peachy blush that reminded me a lot of desert sands. We brought in the pop of colour with the gorgeous bouquet designed by Sarah of Sarah's Wedding Garden."

C A RO LY N & DA N Sheltering from the pouring rain beneath a thick canopy of trees, and surrounded by views of seastacks, lush greenery and the teal waters of Cape Flattery, the northwesternmost point of the contiguous United States, is where Carolyn and Dan found themselves exchanging words of love and commitment. The couple, who were initially drawn together by an interest in surfing the California coasts and drew inspiration for their ceremony site from their time there, had agreed on an elopement early on in their relationship, and five years later said their vows unencumbered by outside distractions and demands, focused only on one another and the majesty of their location.

“We need the tonic of wildness... At the same time that we are earnest to explore and learn all things, we require that all things be mysterious and unexplorable, that land and sea be indefinitely wild, unsurveyed and unfathomed by us because unfathomable. LENNA & JARED ima ges by clayton austin | marfa | te xas
The tradition that the one to catch the bride’s bouquet will be next in line to marry certainly proved true for Lenna Barr – her then-boyfriend Jared Foster proposed the very morning after her sister’s wedding, during their breakfast overlooking Lady Bird Johnson Lake. The couple were married at another Texas landmark, the town of Marfa, which also inspired their wedding style. Their planners at Magic Hour Marfa created beautiful desert-like arrangements, and guests were served Mexican Korean fusion street food from Lenna and Jared’s favourite hometown food truck. As an extra personal touch (and a nod to Jared’s Masters in English Literature), they painted a backdrop with favourite quotes and passages – words that will always be dear to their hearts.

I think it had something to do with their multicultural background, their love for travel, and their deep appreciation for artful living and film photography. When we arrived at their Hacienda on the outskirts of Merida, they welcomed us like family, and we began an unforgettable weekend. Sometimes, you have to dive in and get personal with your couples, their families, Uncle Nicky, or whomever. There's life in that. J a c o b, B r u m l e y & We l l s

caroline & remi “If music be the food of love, play on…” Shakespeare could just as well have been talking about Caroline and Remi when he penned those famous words, since their shared passion for music is one of the things that brings them together, alongside their love of family and friends. For their wedding in Provence, they dreamed of a relaxed, elegant atmosphere and helped to create it with a Brazilian band, who had everyone up and dancing during cocktail hour. The musical surprises didn’t stop there – during the night the couple were treated to a mini-concert by their bridal party, and a flashmob from all their guests!

SHANSHAN & PHILIP images by jen huang | santorini | greece
Shanshan and Philip might come from the same town in China, but it took attending the same university half way across the world in America to bring them together. From Silicon Valley to Illinois, China to New York, the following six years of the well-travelled couple’s relationship were played out long distance, so it was only appropriate when planning their wedding that they settled on a far-flung destination. Shanshan had long dreamed of a honeymoon in Santorini, and so they chose it for their sunset ceremony too, starting their lives together with friends and family, amid the sugarcube houses and turquoise waters of the iconic isle.

the blue skies, clear waters and white-washed houses create a painting-like backdrop, so I wanted to complement that with a wedding style that was simple yet timeless. Besides blue and white, we added mint to the colour palette, and used a lot of olive branches, since they’re a symbol of peace, as well as representing Greece. Our flowers were white piano roses and lisianthus .

We knew there was a chance of rain in October, but the weather was lovely – we were able to drink, dance and chat outside at the reception, and enjoy the light breeze and the stars in the sky.
